The fixtures generator does seemed a bit of a mess, tbh.

I missed the old FMs where matches can be postponed if there's congestion.

This is yet another argument for expanding the editor's capabilities to allow us to find workarounds for bugs like this. There is space for either fixture to be moved a day in either direction - I should be able to do it.

Probably gonna field a B team away to Juve and eat the loss so I can focus on trying to get a result at home vs Inter who are closer to me in the table (and I hate them).

Haven't really been able to get into a save in this year's version, so I'm starting one with Torino on FMT. Got rid of the heads of staff (assistant manager, HOYD, chief scout and head physio) as they were all pretty rubbish. Dennis Bergkamp is my new assistant .

Club vision requires us to play defensively solid football which should be no problem, I'll put the fans to sleep with ease. Will use a Libero for the first time though as Izzo fits the bill. Squad is decent enough I think, will not really be adding anyone or letting anybody go until January at least. I'd forgotten that Torino had qualified for EL, so that means an early start to the season. We're starting in the 2nd round. For some reason the squad isn't on holiday at the start of the game, so we're going to have a super long pre-season, 10 friendlies (2 a week) until the first Europa league game, likely to be against Rangers, 4 more friendlies after that leading to the opener at home against Atalanta. Hopefully I don't pick up too many injuries and the match practice can give us an edge in the first couple of months of the season.

The only thing that worries me is that the board expectations are pretty steep at the start. They want us to qualify for the EL again and reach the QFs of both the EL and Coppa. I think unless we have a stellar season we're going to need one of Milan, Roma or Atalanta to have a poor season if we're to qualify for EL. The other two are dependent on the luck of the draw, really, so fingers crossed I can avoid the big fish in the EL till the quarters.

Good luck  Enjoyed managing them on FM19 with them  They got couple decent players in the U's20 to keep eyes on :D

Doing favours for Juventus now? You should have just said you loved Juventus instead :D

Kidding aside, if the quality of the oppositions were different, I wouldn't mind as much, we can just use different teams for both teams. It's when the hard teams that we would struggled to compete in both games.

I actually am a very big believer in rotation, and love to field an A squad for weekend games and a B squad for midweek fixtures, but this is unreal.

As for Juve, I do like them, but ironically would rather they fail so they sack their manager and hire me instead  :D

I unfortunately lost my Vercelli save on switching to new laptop :( Currently in Portugal, so may come back after!

If you still have access to the old hard drive there are guides on how to successfully transfer everything over! I did it last year without too much difficulty.

Eight Update.

WINTER TRANSFER WINDOW - JANUARY 2021

Parma's transfer targets:

Spoiler

For those who have been following my updates will know some of the names that I would like to bring to Parma, even before I started my save in FM20.

  • Pre-game targets: The Thurams, Chiesa, Minamino - some form of connection to Parma's past.
  • At the start of the game targets (players that I followed in real life in Serie A): Castrovilli, Kumbulla, Amrabat, Cistana, Tomiyasu

All of these targets could only be approached dependent on if they are discovered and recommended by my scouts in the Scouting Centre.

So far as of January 1st 2020, The Thurams, Minamino, Kumbulla, and Amrabat are not yet discovered.

With a potential £4m in adjusted transfer budget, again, I don't have much room to work in this Window.

Transfer History - In:

Since Parma played Fiorentina back to back in early January (Serie A and Coppa Italia), Amrabat was recommended to me in the Scouting Centre! He was unhappy, so decided to test if Fiorentina would be willing to sell. To my surprise, after only 6months in Florence, a £2.2m offer was accepted, almost at half of his value £4.1m (he wasn't transfer listed). Amrabat would be a decent option in the short- and mid-term, bringing down the age of my midfield slightly and having an option who could be here at least for another 2-3 seasons (Kucka, Kurtic, and Scozzarella are all 32-34 of age). Long term, I might move for better targets depending on budget, unless he's cementing his place in my plan.

Ramadani had his contract expiring and decided to bring him in early because of the cheap price. My u20s will have barely any players next season, so decided to add more body and quality.

Screenshots below for Amrabat and Ramadani.

With Amrabat coming in, and Grassi pushing for more actions, decided to loan both him and Diakhate out. SPAL offered 0% wages contribution but since there was no other interest, decided to accept it to keep my promise to Grassi.

Trapani made an offer to loan Karaangelov, which I accepted after a week, since at this stage, we were out of the Coppa Italia. Decided to send Tolomello as well to my affiliate-Trapani, so it was a homecoming for him back at Trapani, where he made his debut as a 17 years old and played almost 30 games in Serie B.

Decided to keep Laurenzi, though, as my emergency cover for the left hand side of the defence.

Managers' Movements:

Can only say there were a lot of them! At least they were some interesting appointments! :D

Disappointed by these 2 sackings, as in FM19, their arrivals in Italy made Serie A challenging. Napoli, especially, since they were 4th when they sacked Pochettino.

Loved the connections of bringing back former managers, though. :D

I thought, with potential Champions League football next season, he would be a realistic target in the summer.

Wished he had gone to Lazio or something, as his wages would be lower than at Milan's! See the other news below to see how it would be unlikely now for me to get him, at least not without paying huge transfer fees and high wages.

The rest of deadline day and Serie A notable transfers:

Spoiler

Apart from Castrovilli, was disappointed to see Immobile leave Lazio. Though, he is over 30 now, I understood his in-game reasoning :D

Now, with only Luis Alberto, they are not as a threat as before. I wondered if in-game Luis Alberto regretted not accepting the transfer to Barcelona last summer. :D

The main team to benefit from Serie A losing all these players is Atlanta, since their squad is mostly intact!

Rafa Benitez seemed to be making better transfer than Diego Simeone, at least! Sane is a great signing for Serie A and Inter. And Almada, as well!

Sarri bought a couple of French, former Celtic players, though Nchtam is surprisingly described as World Class.. Ronaldo been out with a broken ankle for more than 3 months now.

Boardroom News (post-January):

Spoiler

Last we heard about a potential takeover was in August 2019, now in February/March 2021, it's back on?

Not sure how I would feel, tbh, as lots of money too quickly might be boring and more importantly, they might not keep me anyway

I guess this was the people involved? Never got any news notification about this (image below).

By middle of March, though:

I guess that's the end of it, for now, at least!

In all my years of playing CM/FM, never did experienced a takeover, though. Not sure if I would like it

Other Serie A Boardroom news:

Spoiler

In April, I started to receive notifications about transfer offers being made to my shortlisted scouted players and some other article in the news section.

Curiosity saw me investigate, and apparently, Milan and Udinese now got new owners with cash!

As stated above, Castrovilli moved to Milan in January, before the new takeover. Now, with fresh cash, it is unlikely I can get him, especially on those wages.

Milan

After 14 games, the league looks like this.

My top performers have been.

Spoiler

Bought for roughly 50k from Livorno. He has previously been with Palermo in Serie A, and has more than 100 games for the club.

Spoiler

Brought in on a free transfer. He has been a steady performer in the HB role, but we need to find a replacement for him. Perhaps as early as next season.

Spoiler

Cost me roughly 100k from Napoli, but has been performing nicely in the MEZ role.

Reducing the loading time when opening the page. Less clustered that way, I feel.

At least, that's my reasoning when I started doing it :D Others either followed me or have been doing it before as well

Never thought of that   Still yet to hit January, been spending alot of time bringing in free agent players to cover the depth of the squad. Frustrating cos I just managed to sell Ledian Memushaj, to Olympiacos, for 2.5M and yet I only got 250K to spend from the transfer :( :seagull:

However, we just knocked out SPAL in Coppa Italia

Pretty happy how the season going so far, disappointed with couple loss despite dominating in the game. Will be looking to strengthen the team in January transfer window (if chairman gives me any! :( ) My biggest concern right now is, if we peaked too early if we do get promoted?

eb6d66c31e9b7c7b93d129c87324f0a5.jpg

Finances is getting terrible despite me selling few players, but only getting 10% of the transfers,  but the transfer budget gets pushed to wages budget to keep it under control, just hoping this takeover goes through. Going to try and get Melegoni's loan extended for another season with us, as he has been superb for us.

No rules against playing the same team, it is your FM, so have fun with it :D

For example, I enjoyed reading other Parma saves, in fact wish there are more updates I can read or watch a video of on Parma.

Would be cool to see new teams, new players, and see their progress over time, though.

What a goal! My first Goal of the Season (didn't get one in FM19) :D

9e97eeb32c287110addf7d7e08d996c4.png

This was the more meaningful as I still remembered when this goal happened!

It was his 8th game of the season, and I thought his scoring streak of scoring 11 goals in his first 7 games this season would be ending with this game.. Until he scored this in injury time! I actually jumped for joy, not just for continuing his streak, but also the manner of the goal in the last seconds of the game :D

As indicated in update seventh, his run ended in his 12th game against Milan, scoring 16 goals in 11 games :D

What a goal, eh @ParanoidBuddha:lol:

By the way, anybody is using Gyazo for their images?

I noticed that my images are smaller compared to others (I directly drag my screenshots from my folders to this website), and you have to click on the posted image to have a good view of it.

In some other topic I'm reading, the images are nice and clear, you can read them by just scrolling through them. For example, you can compared Amrabat's screen in my 8th update to @Mr_Demus Palermo's players screens in his update. Huge difference, right?

In the latest video I posted, I tried Gyazo - which supposed to have the bigger presentation, but it is still the same small size?

Calcio Catania

5c48f1647fca710dc0285276d8bbafc3.jpg

After doing some research on attendance figures in Serie C this season I had a pool of clubs to choose from. Cesena, Vicenza, Ternana & Catania seemed like good options that already have a solid fanbase. I then did some online dice rolling eliminating a club from the pool with each roll and have been left with Catania! Catania is on the island of Sicily and seems like a rather nice seaside city (not too dissimilar to where I live actually, although we don't have quite the same level of architecture :D).

The club is one of the biggest in it's division, but the board doesn't expect a promotion straight away. Instead they expect us to get to the promotion playoff this season, and to get promoted to Serie B by the 2021/22 season, which seems fair.

club_vision_beginning.thumb.jpg.bbe796c126f5155515e3fd19efe176a5.jpg

I've been given a transfer budget of £318k, and a wage budget of £3.2 million p/a. I want to try to save the transfer budget for if/when I get promoted to Serie B.

The playing squad is already pretty strong, but the main problem is a lack of decent strikers, my best guy is Davis Curiale, but he only got 4 goals last season!

davis_curiale.thumb.jpg.519be7c442981a200fc0c198070ce035.jpg

Luckily I have managed to get Kevin Cannavo in on loan for the season,I have to pay 10k per month out of the transfer budget for him but he really is a great player for this level already. Hopefully he can fire us to promotion!

Special mentions for WilsonJuve, the only player continuing his career save by changing clubs so far. :D

Added @bendixkunert2 @rafaelbenitez @ajt @ParanoidBuddha to the list!

I believed that is currently 20 players active in Italy involving this thread at the moment :D

There are a few doing their own career thread at FMCU.

I have noticed that too :(

Calcio Catania

Luckily I have managed to get Kevin Cannavo in on loan for the season,I have to pay 10k per month out of the transfer budget for him but he really is a great player for this level already. Hopefully he can fire us to promotion!

A cracking choice   Good luck!

Genoa - end of 19-20 season.

There was no transfer business done in January, in or out.  I figured as this is an experimental/transitional season that I’m better keeping the money for any rebuilding in the summer.

I last left with us in 12th place in Serie A having just beaten Sampdoria in the derby.  That was followed up by four straight defeats to Roma, Inter, Torino and the early surprise package, Verona.

December brought some respite, with 4 wins out of 4, including an extra time victory over Pisa in the Cup.  Roma would host us in the next round and handed us a 5-1 hammering.

Inconsistency was the main feature of the second part of the season.  Disappointing results like a 1-0 home loss to SPAL and draws with Brescia and Lecce were offset by surprising results like a 2-0 win away to AC Milan and a 2-2 draw at home to Juve.

We also managed to win the second derby of the season at the end of March, a 2-0 win with goals from Cristian Romero and Radovanovic.  I have found that one of the better ways to keep yourself in a job while being inconsistent is to beat your rivals – the fans and the board will forgive a lot as long as they get the local bragging rights.  Samp had very poor season, finished 17th and only 3 points clear of the drop.

I ended the season in 13th. Very mediocre but expected with the tactical changes I was making.  I suspect I would have done better if I’d stuck a couple of battering rams up front and played more direct, but that’s not how I want the team to develop.

The better performers were mainly defensive players. Radovanovic, Sturaro and Criscito all doing well (Criscito was my top scorer with 8 goals – mostly penalties).  From an attacking perspective Falque did better as an AMC, and was to of my assists chart, but he is going back to Torino.  Pinamonti did okay, with 7 goals in the league.

All of the loanees are going back to their parent clubs, but I also have a lot returning to me, so it’s now time to review my squad and see what moves I need to make ahead of the 20-21 season.

Milan - Start of 2023/2024 Season

After last seasons agonizing loss in the Champions League-final against PSG in 120th minute, I decided there was time for a change. Having seen Aubameyang decline, I felt it was the right time for us to let him go and start young Brandon Cortés, and since the latter was much more adept at playing as a False-9 and I had range of technically skilled midfielders in the Barca-mould, I wanted to install a tiki-taka-style.

New Tactic

Transfers In & Out

In terms of transfers, I mainly brought in cover for my first eleven. I also sold Antony because of EU-registration rules, six months after my new board bought him for 120 million pounds. In notable world-transfers, Mbappe moved to Manchester City for a staggering 269 million pounds, while across town, Manchester United shelled out 123 million pounds for Dejan Kulusevski.

Hopefully, these changes will see us reclaim the Serie A-title and make another run for the coveted Champions League-trophy, but the tactic is very much a work in progress and sees us changing from a direct, counter-attacking approach, to a more measured possession style of football.

I always think long term targets would make it all worth it. Sturaro and Criscito are Mr. Genoas! Will you keep them long term? Will be interesting to see how you will reshape the squad in the summer.
