  1. One thing I've noticed, not sure if it has been mentioned already or if it just on my save, but AI managed Italian clubs seem to be buying much better this year then previous versions. For example I usually manage Inter Milan, and found after the first January transfer window it becomes very easy to catch Juventus as they've sold off the likes of Dybala and Pjanic and replaced them with for example Fellaini (Not dising Fellaini ; has his good points). I'm into my 3rd season OK I'm 14 clear (more due to my awesomness) but Juventus and Lazio have actually bought some really decent players while actually keeping their better players. For example Juventus, brought in Haaland to replace Higuian (out bid me for him) and still have Dybala, They also have been very clever with free transfers bringing in Cavani who they have now sold for profit, as well as Meunier. As for Lazio they've kept Immobile and Correa, they sold Savic to Barcelona for about 100m in the 3rd season summer window and replaced him with Bruno Guimaraes which is decent bit of business. Anyone else seeing similar or am just kind of lucky. My team by the way I play a 4-2-3-1 GKs: Geronimo Rulli - brought in start of 3rd season for €35m to replace the retiring Handanovic . Ionut Radu- very able backup and plays all my cup games- of course Home grown- shared keeping duties with Handi in 2nd season after he came back from Genoa CB: Milan Skriniar- still the heartbeat of my defence- vice captain too, Barcelona unsettled him midway through the 2nd season but I managed to keep hold of him and thankfully he signed a new contract start of 3rd season, had become unsettled again when PSG came in for him but i've promised him that he'll be a guide to the younger players coming to through Ruben Dias- his partner in crime in my back 4 - brought Ruben in for €40m from Benfica has been very good, bit injury prone but thankfully nothing too major, loves a booking though (think his aggression is 17 or 18 which explains it) Stefan de Vrij - another rock at the back but and very capable of coming in to replace Dias when he is out, though I may look to cash in come the summer given I want have Bastoni (currently on loan to Roma) come back into the team Zinho Vanheusden- brought the Belgian back to the club for his €18m buyback clause again very capable and will improve still, home grown too which is great. FB: Cristiano Biraghi- I've seen mixed reviews of Biraghi but he has been brilliant for me, another home grown player too Federico Dimarco- Spend the first year out on loan but decided to give him a chance in the second and he has been brilliant , i'm still rotating between him and Biraghi but he is starting to become a potential world class full back. Home grown too Pol Lirola- €32 from Fiorentina start of 3rd season had to spend big to get him in but has slotted in very nicely Claud Adjapong- Another I had to spend a bit on think it was €16m but after selling both Dani Ambro(who was amazing for me first two seasons but now 34 ) and Lazaro for €45m to Swansea (YES SWANSEA!!) I needed cover for Lirola I wanted to go Italian and young so Claud came in, the fans and board were initially a little confused by this one but he has proven to be a success. CM: Exequiel Palacios- picked him up in January 2nd season for his ridiculous €6m buyout clause after Vecino went to china for about €40m, what can I say they people don't already know about this lad. Stefano Sensi- his rotation at DLP/AP in my team is Sensi both are brilliant for me, Nicolo Barella- has been immense as my B2B so much I made him captain at the start of 3rd season, has developed in a World Class player capable of playing any role in the midfield Marcelo Brozovic- despite flutters of offers I've managed to keep hold of him, is my 3rd Captain and is able deputy to Barella when he needs a rest (and when he was out for 2 months with a knee injury) did complain about lack of game time and I was tempted to let him go but Barella's injury seen him get the gametime to make him happy and me because he played brilliantly. Roberto Gagliardini- is unfortunately the forgotten man in my midfield still of course capable to fill in when needed, but hasn't featured much, he may be moving on come the summer window, which does make me a little sad as he is a player I have a lot for admiration for due to his brilliance in previous FMs (think it was FM18 he could play any role in the midfield and give 8+ rating every game) AM: Christian Eriksen- brought him in on a free start of 2nd season was key to my title in 2nd season and equally key during the 3rd season too. Dani Olmo- The wonderkid I think everyone got, capable of playing anywhere in my 3 attacking places really pushing Eriksen now, so my 4th season will be interesting to juggle the two. WING Wilfried Zaha- bought for €40m in 2nd season summer from Palace where he requested to leave, has been a sensation scoring goals for fun at times as my Inside Forward Attack on the left, has attracted a lot of interest from China and both Manchester clubs so may be another who i'll be thinking about come the summer window Josip Brekalo- €16m from Wolfsburg after they were relegated in first season I has initially brought him in to start but then brought in Zaha but still has done very well when needed will be my number choice on left wing should Zaha leave in the summer. Jeremy Doku- the young starlet on the left still has time to develop brought in during my first season for about €20m has only played a few games as I don't want to rush him in but has scored some vital goals when he has come in including the winner against Lazio this season, might be due a loan in the summer if I don't sell Zaha. Gabriel Barbosa- my player of the season in my 2nd season despite Lautaro Martinez scoring 37 goals, not sure who said he can't play Right Wing but he has been phenomenal for me as a Inverted Winger Support, assisting and scoring very important goals. Riccardo Orsolini- After letting an unhappy Politano leave in the summer I took advantage of the €5m relegation clause Orsolini has at Bologna. not been brilliant but happy to be backup to Gabi which Politano constantly complained. CF: Lautaro Martinez- WOW this lad was amazing brilliant is first when I play a 3-5-2 alongside Lukaku/ Belotti and was just sensational when I changed to 1 up top in the 2nd scoring 37 goals, hasn't quite reached same heights this season but still my number 1, attracted a lot of interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Man City but thankfully I managed to keep hold of him and got him to sign a new contract with a 500M buyout clause which will be the only way he'll leave. Sebastiano Esposito: So Iike to give youth a chance and after selling both Lukaku and Belotti to china for a combined €120m I decided it was Sebas time after two successful loan spells in the first two years the first he kept Parma in the league the second he was key to Young Boys reaching the quarter final of the Europa League. Pietro Pellegri- Transfer listed by request €42m might be a lot on a 20 year old (so my board think anyway ) but I have faith he will be pay that back. Eddy Salcedo- I include him even though I sent him out on loan in January had a great spell on loan during my 2nd season where he got young player of the year with Sampdoria, I've sent him to Genoa this time after giving him a run during the first 6 months of season 3, he was just more the one I thought would more benefit from week in week out football (has already helped me out by scoring a last minute equaliser against Juventus in Turin ;-) ) As said I'm very happy with my team and unless I sell I'm not sure it will change much in the 4th season. I even have the likes of Xian Emmers, Thomas Schiro and Tibo Persyn who have done very well whilst on loan the last 3 years to come in to challenge for places.
  2. Couldn't have put it better myself Steve In with the defending champions Real Madrid, Dortmund and Inter, I think 3rd place might be a bit too much, What really sickens is the following two groups And of course to make matters even worse I got Man City in the 3rd round of the Carabou Cup
  3. An amazing first season as the toon Joelinton was the man finished 2nd top goal scorer in the PL Transfer wise Jovane was a revelation scoring 11 and assisting 7 goals during his first season. Kehrer was brilliant in the defence, Lanzini was the only real disappointment. Also Reinier probably won't get a work permit for awhile but i'll probably make profit on him which is good. Mariano came in after I sold Gayle and done well scoring 4 goals important goals including the 1-0 win over Man City. . Transfer out wise got rid of some of the dead wood, a bit sad to see Ritchie go as he actually had decent enough first half of the season despite a nasty injury but with enough cover out wide I thought sure why not let him go. But sure that was last season onto my second I was given 60m to spend for my European assault I made Trippier permanent as he was key, Krul was transfer listed and after selling Darlow I needed another keeper so why not bring back a home grown player. Once more the transfer window came to my favour with the signings of Batshuayi, Lookman and Holding, some youngsters brought in for low fees too to bolster the U23s. And just before deadline day Ander Barrenetxea comes in for 14m. Out Again out with some of the deadwood and a few youngsters going out on loan. Currently awaiting the draw for the Champions League, hoping for a nice draw, although my aim will most likely be to finish 3rd and try my luck in the Europa.
  4. One thing I've noticed is people don't seem to like Krafth He's been one of my best players. (In fact the only player i've struggled to get a decent game out of is Miggy.) Given he's pretty much the only right wing back I have after I sold Manquillo and Yedlin is made of glass he has started majority of games for me. I've started to retrain Ritchie to play right wing back too as backup.
  5. I'm actually doing surprisingly well coming up towards December (As I've haven't been able to play much since starting the thread) currently sitting 2nd with some massive wins against Man United and Arsenal along the way. Joelinton has been a beast scoring 9 in 10 games. Struggling to get much out of Saint Max- he really is hot and cold plus fairly susceptible to injury, Miggy likewise. As the transfer targets above Jovane has been a revelation scoring and assisting at will. Pardo has been good scored a cracker against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw on his debut. Lanzini who i brought in on loan has been a slight disappointment and has spent more time with the physios then on the pitch, strongly thinking of cutting short his loan come January. Birger Meling came in to give Jetro cover as I don't entirely trust Dummett there. The only other in was due to replacing a player, sold Fede to Everton for €10 and replaced him with Kehrer who despite concerns about his concentration which I believe is 10 he's done very well (loves a card though) . Take over just completed too some Portuguese fellow didn't give me anymore money though but seems keen to improve training facilities so happy out. Shall post up first half of season stats when I reach January. In terms of transfers I'm hoping come January I'll be given some funds by the new owner, with a left winger (who can also cover the Attacking Mid Role) my prime target. My main targets are Hakan Çalhanoğlu- The Turk is my number 1 target and while at the moment he isn't interested in the move- I've dispatched my scouts to watch him and got my higher reputation players to big up a move to him. If i'm still near the top of the table come the end of January Transfer window I think I could persuade him if not he'll remain a target for the summer. Backup target David Neres- While predominantly more a right winger* (see below) I like his pace and flair doesn't have the ability to play in the centre but I'd say he could be easily trained to play there. Other areas I'm looking at but probably not until the summer CF I've given Andy Carroll a new contract to keep him at the club mostly to keep the HG quota up but he's also been a decent option coming off the bench holding up play, but Gayle and Muto haven't done much and I'll be looking to cash in during January or the summer so replacement will be needed there. Right Wing David Neres could well fill this gap if I go for him but I'm also looking to see who may come available come the summer. CM- specifically a deep lying playmaker- I've switched between both Shelvey and Ruben Pardo this season both have their on and off games, Pardo is out of contract in the summer so I may actually try to bring him in on a free as long as he doesn't push up his current 7k wages too much.
  6. Same interested in seeing how this adventure goes both here and real life
  7. One thing I love about FM is developing young players, Newcastle are no different they do have a few very good young players The above 5 are probably the best in the team, only newly signed Kyle Scott is not homegrown. As advised above Freddie Woodman can be the keeper for you in 2 or 3 seasons, give him a new contract which reflects that and he'll be happy Yannick Toure is probably the key young player (some advice change yourself to finalize youth player outgoings as he is a wanted man and I wouldn't trust Charnley/Ashley should a bid come in for him) Victor is a tricky winger who i've given game time before and he done well. Elias is another top prospect currently out on loan. Alongside Woodman and Sorensen another 3 out on loan who might be useful going forward are Murphy, Barlaser and Aarons. Murphy was a 12M signing two years ago but just hasn't kicked on as expected but I still think he can have a future at the club. Aarons likewise is a decent young winger who would be a useful backup if you want to keep a homegrown talent at the club. Barlaser is one I've seen do good things in previous FM's if given attention and the right mentoring another homegrown player.
  8. Would be more then enough, given the MLS rules come end of December were you are part of the draft process. I stand corrected but as a New Team I believe you get first pick of players released by the other MLS franchises
  9. As far as I know you can manage them straight away, the first year will be friendlies and building a team
  10. Transfer Targets So as advised the squad of players at your disposal isn't that bad tbh You start with a budget of €23.22m and 41K in wages which isn't too bad considering how tight Mike Ashley is in real life, you can of course strengthen to this with sales to around 30-40m easily, though I'd say loans may be your best option. You're well covered for Goalkeepers and Centre back so no need to worry about there unless you sell. Left wingback you have Jetro Willems on loan with an option to buy I'd recommend to do this as he's a great option. Outside of him you have Dummett and Ritchie who can cover him though neither are the best as I think Ritchie is better served as being backup on the wing and Dummett as a centre back or full back (also good to keep for Club grown talent). So you could look to for potentially a left wingback. Though I don't think this is your main issue as the above can cover for the first season. Centre mid another area which you have some good cover the two Longstaff's and Hayden can all cover as a Box to Box and Ball winners as they all have good work rate. As for your playmaker Shelvey and Ki, well as said above Ki is out of contract and probably won't get a new work permit and given he's 30 this may be an area you look into. I'd recommend Ruben Pardo from Sociedad who you'll be able to bring in on loan. Great vision and low wages he is perfect for the first season. Out Wide your wingers are Almiron and Saint Maximin the cover for them is Atsu, Ritchie and Muto. I really don't think Atsu is that good as for a winger he can't cross or dribble with 11 stats on this so someone should be brought in to replace him. I'd recommend a player I loved from one of saves in FM19 Jovane Cabral from Sporting At 21 he can cover both sides and has good crossing and dribbling and a nice bit of flair which will excite the fans plus he's available for around €12m which is a decent price for a player with his potential. Up front striker wise to start off I don't think you need anyone as Joelinton, Carroll , Gayle and Muto can all cover. One player I've noticed comes available who may be of help to the team especially if you decide to play an attacking midfield in the centre is Manuel Lanzini from West Ham, you can get him on loan
  11. Yep plans to do a Transfer targets post, he's definitely one which should be considered.
  12. Club Vision. So club vision basically don't sign anyone over 23, as for the 5 year plan as you'll see there isn't really one. Basically get mid-table and hopefully Mike Ashley then goes away....We can dream
  13. Tactics The best formations are highlighted as being Gegenpress, Wing Play and Route One which make sense but I of course like to do Custom The team is built for 3 at the back given you have a number of good centre back options and some very good wingbacks and wide players Another one I think works very well is the standard 4-2-3-1. Ritchie works very well as a Raumdeuter I feel due to his work rate. One for when you're under pressure against the bigger teams
  14. The Squad An area where Newcastle are well covered, Dubravka is your undisputed number 1 here but both Darlow and Elliot are capable if you really need them. Both Elliot and Darlow are out of contract at the end of season so I'd advise looking to probably off loading one of them and extending the other, you have Freddie Woodman out on loan too at Swansea (who also is out of contract so offer him one) to come back and challenge Dubravka next season. Another area Newcastle are well stocked is in defence (bar left back). You have 5 very good choices for Centre back (Though Lejuene is out for another 3 months) plus Paul Dummett who covers Willems at left wing back. You do have a decision to make at right back as the club has 3 options there. Krafth, Yedlin (out injured for the first two months of the season or Manquillo. I'd recommend selling one of them to free up some space in the 25 man squad and raise some funds most likely Manquillo as you can't sell Krafth as he's a new signing and Yedlin being injured would fail a medical. In Midfield you again have some decent options, the two Longstaff brothers are the future and you have two exciting wide players in Miggy and the Saint. Shelvey has the vision to pick a pass and Hayden is a good all rounder. Atsu and Ritchie provide good cover out wide though you could probably look to bring in an upgrade for Atsu as he is fairly limited. Ki Sung Yueng is out of contract and there is the danger of him not getting a work permit so probably best for all parties to look to offload him too. Up front you have 4 options new record signing Joelinton should be your first choice, with big Andy providing cover, Muto will be your 3rd choice and can also cover left wing too so useful to have. Gayle starts the season injured but is quite useful for perhaps the first season before a replacement can be brought in. Andy Carroll is only on a one year contract too so that's a judgement call you have to make too coming near to December. Other players 3 senior players who are not in the first team picture it's totally up to you what you want to do with them, I'll be honest the only one perhaps useful would be the former FM wonderkid Henri Saivet who can cover a few positions. But of course you can make some much needed funds in both transfer and wage budget by selling them off.
  15. NEWCASTLE UNITED Very surprised there isn't a Newcastle United thread already (unless I'm being totally blind). The 19/20 season at Newcastle brings a fresh look to the North East, with Rafa gone the job has gone to Steve Bruce and he brings with him his two trusted assistants Steve Agnew and Steve Clemence It's not all doom and gloom though on Tyneside as the club actually spent some money during the summer. Detailed Squad Analysis to follow
  16. Thinking of doing an independiante save myself. Argentinian Guy I work with supports them and has turned me onto the possibility. They seem to be the slight sleeping giant of South America. 7 libertadores championships but none since 1984 Haven't won the league since 2002. Great fan base and healthy rivalry with their neighbours (literally across the road) Racing.
  17. Would make sense, I'd imagine Basel is one of his favored clubs given he came through their academy.
  18. Alan Kelly is also the goalkeeping coach For senior team @Simon Tipple @Gripper
  19. I'm very tempted to keep Gabigol As I plan to switch to a 4-2-3-1 next season and he'll be good cover for right wing with Politano. Eriksen is on my list for a free transfer to fill in that attacking mid role. Half tempted to let sanchez go back to man u in January as his wages are massive and I've only used him sparsely (though when I have he's been decent).
  20. Doing an Inter Milan save shall try to upload when I get time
  21. Lukaku is Target Man support and Martinez is Complete attack. Lukaku isn't really scoring but his build up play is fantastic. Ideally I'd like him to score more but I'm happy with what he's doing overall.
  22. Doing inter myself 3-5-2 formation Rom and Martinez up front doing wonders especially Lautaro. Esposito broke his leg in pre season unfortunately for me. I brought in Belotti to give Rom/Lautaro competition. Hammered Chelsea 4-0 in champions league group phase. Currently 4th in league 3 points off lazio who are top. Other signings I made Lucas Tousart to cover the defensive mid role and Benjamin Heinrichs for the versatility he offers... Though I had to leave him out of the champions league squad and my board aren't happy with the deal. Overall a great squad Only real lack of cover is goalkeeper-which I now have to deal with after Handanovic picked up an injury, Padelli is OK but wouldn't be overly relient if Samirs injury was long-term. (Radú is back in the summer so will offer that) 5 top CBS in Godin, de Vrji, Skrinar, Bastoni and Rannochia. Left wing back Biraghi has been phenomenal for me as has Asamoah (diMarco gone out on loan) On the right D'ambrosio and lazaro have done well With Heinrichs cover for both sides as well as defensive mid. Midfield take your pick of Brozovic, vecino, sensi, barella, gaglirdini and Tousart. Front two options of the above mentioned and Belotti, Politano and sanchez (who I can't wait to get rid of for wages alone)
  23. Steve Walford isn't part of the Ireland national coaching team
  24. Well Season 6 is over and what a way to finish it The 6th league title, Taca and league cup double, Supertaca and the one I coveted after reaching the final twice before it was 3rd time lucky And it was a dream way to win it On his final game before retiring the 39 year old Cristiano Ronaldo came off the bench to score the winner in Moscow Speaking after the game Ronaldo said "it was meant to be I think, I won my first Champions League title here while at Manchester United and I win my final title here too with my boyhood club, it is a dream come true" I have the little matter of the European Championships with the Portuguese National Team to finish off and then I think I'll be looking forward to FM20 who knows maybe I'll have another Sporting save.
