Probably not tbh. Noone really cares that much about the World Cup any more, let alone this one in Qatar.

Noone cares? The TV-coverage has been exactly as big as every time?

And you still think this one won't count as a "real" World Cup? :D

No I think it'll count as much as any other modern World Cup and will generally be forgotten about, but with the added "urgh, best not talk about Qatar" stuff on top.

Couldn’t watch the game but that is a pathetic result by Argentina. Cameroon actually turned out to be a decent side, this has to be the biggest World Cup shock  ever?

Up there, definitely. North Korea beating Italy in 1966?

And obviously when we lost to the US.

Any reason it went on so long? Took a break from work to see what football  was on today, saw Arg was losing at 96+6 on BBC, turned the tele on at 98 and it just kept going hahaha

There was a nasty collision between Saudi keeper and defender in 94th, took a while.

what about Northern Ireland beating Spain in 1982? more likely were given no chance

Seems bigger for the way people look down on Asian teams. In particular Middle Eastern ones. And the fact that often South American football is overrated by so many people. People still have this romaticised view of football in South America. The reality is that the standard is a lot lower than certain posters have you believe.

Saudi keeper hit one of his own defenders with a knee that would make Sagat proud.

the problem with that is Iran and Qatar looked like non-league teams in a World Cup :D

People look down on Asian teams because everyone except Korea and maybe Japan has done nothing over the past decade. Absolutely nothing.

But you're now going to be a hot take artist, while barely knowing any players outside of EPL's top6.

Go back to your Liverpool net spend topic, please.

I don't even know half the players IN the EPL top 6 these days.

I'd still have Senegal v France as the biggest upset probably.  Reigning World and European champions against a team that had never ever qualified before.  Plus it was the opening game.

Today would be top five though probably, maybe with Senegal/France, Argies/Cameroon and Italy/North Korea.  Not sure what else, maybe USA/England.

I would agree but it seems to depend if they get out the group. A lot are downgrading Senegal beating France because Senegal made the QFs and had players move elsewhere. If Saudi Arabia get out the group then surely the same applies here

Thing is, quite a few Saudi players could play in Europe, but don’t.

This is how I'd see it. Senegal bigger just because of how good France were going in, and Senegal being first timers. Saudi Arabia qualify pretty regularly.
