Watching the second goal again, what was that?

Long kick from a defender and somehow there's noone even close to Asano?

If a non-European team did that, they'd be made fun of. Amateur stuff.

tbf, McCoist did mention it a little.

Imagine the odds on a Argentina/Germany 1st Goal / Saudi/Japan win Double

Both started with the favourites scoring a pen, leading at HT, and losing 2-1 in the second half with a briliant winner. Gonna be a good WC for the Asian teams.

Someone should tell Matterface that Japan have made the R16 in three World Cups in the last few years.  Talking about them like they have never played football before.

Remember football doesn't exist outside Europe or South America.

I was confused why Germany took Musiala off. He was the best player on the pitch. Gnabry wasn't doing much. He should have gone off. They got worse when he went off. Osano was brilliant when he came on.

Germany should stop hiring Bayern Munich managers, they don't have a difficult job at club level so don't know how to deal with the pressure of being in a competitive tournament.

Pretty great that Japan can bring Tomiyasu, Mitoma, Minamino, Asano and Doan off the bench these days.

Lots of players now skip university altogether and join a J-League club or go abroad earlier.

Well now it's being seen as a viable career option, which it wasn't previously, so players wanted to focus on their education first because east Asian countries place such a high emphasis on academic achievement. Now they know they can become elite players in Europe, earning millions playing football, more players are pursuing it.

not sure why Tomi didn’t start tho. They were a disaster defensively first half.

Brilliant comeback by Japan. They were brave, they through caution to the wind, they went forward with purpose and they showed their skill to win.

However what the **** were Sule and Schlotterbeck doing for the second goal. Sule jogging back aimlessly behind his centre back pairing playing Asano on side and Schlotterbeck showing no awareness as he let Asano get meters behind him on side. By the time he realized Asano was charging at full speed towards goal. Simply unacceptable by both of them.

Pathetic keeping from Neuer as well.

Said before the tournament that Germany and Japan would both go through and Spain would go out.  Not changing that opinion yet.

Spain have the control to get through group easily IMO.

Defensively look lacking when they face a strong side though with Azpi/Alba as full backs. Just a defence that lacks pace, even in the CBs and with Busquets in front.

Dunno about Spain.  See how they get on today, but they have phased some of the experience out too quickly imo.  Only 5-6 out of 26 that survive from the 2018 squad.

Have you saw their lineup today? :D

Looks terrible. Should be fine for Costa Rica though.
