Official Football Manager 2015 Pre Release Beta Feedback Thread - Update 15.0.3

the team morale is silly. The whole team is upset that Samuel Eto'o isn't being given enough game time, even Lukaku, who is starting ahead of him?!! A player who is starting ahead of someone else would hardly be unhappy at that? The issue was 'resolved' in a team meeting and still the whole squad is unhappy weeks later for the same issue??

I don't have FM open at the moment, but now that you mention it I haven't seen it yet, a player getting a red card for bringing down a player that's broken through. Not in my own games anyway.

Been on both sides of having a red-card issued for last-man bringing down an attacker in this save (12 matches in) in a lower league team. Small sample size, but it does happen. Just can't compare the frequency to RL yet.

I've a small complaint that has been in the game at least the past two versions as far as I know. I have my 1st team, Reserves and U18s visible in my squad selection filter. This allows me to leave my youngsters in the reserves or under 18s and still select them in my team, (I know I could bring them to my first team and select make available for U18s but I prefer to keep them in their youth teams.

Every year when the Youth candidates come through it creates the youth candidate team and deselects all but the first team in the selection filter. I often forget about this and thus leave my youngsters out for a month or so until i realise they're not on the list.

Not a big problem but one that would be much appreciated if it were fixed and the filters stayed as they were.

Okay so i thought i'd give my thoughts on some of the improvements i think are needed:

Firstly i think a lot have touched up on this, Far too many goals in games..

I am 4th in the league and have had 1 clean sheet in march? Surely that is unrealistic..

The tactics screen needs a huge overhaul.. i wouldn't mind it staying the same as FM14 as that was easy to use, i could see the roles and duties of my players on the pitch section of the screen and that was very helpful, now all i get is a circle telling me how good a player is in that role/duty? I know how good he is that's why i signed/picked him...

One thing that really bugs me is when a defender makes a good tackle but that tackle acts as a through ball to their other striker who just has an empty net to slot it into.. i've seen this happen like maybe once in real life but it happens once every 2 games in the beta..

When i try and sign someone like Hojberg, Bayern want 88m? I know he's a great talent but come on.... 30-40 is understandable but wow, 88?

I would also maybe like the option to talk to loan players who don't want to join you, similar to how you can with transfers who you have to 'make first offer' or 'talk to them' i would like the option to try and persuade Tiago illori to join my Notts County push for promotion but he just rejects straight off.

The too many goals issue is explained in the first post of this thread so I'd advise you to read that :)

I agree on the tactics screen and so do a lot of other people, you get used to it but I do miss player roles being on the tactics screen pitch.

Hojberg being valued at £88M isn't unrealistic and is pretty much what I'd expect. Bayern don't want to sell him to you and don't need any money, they are one of the richest clubs in the game.

I see these two pointless press conference answers are still in the game, namely the last two listed here.

Seriously, of all the responses that could be offered how many times are these two going to be relevant? Yet every time I sign a player they pop up.

If anyone ever uses the "Necessary for the deal to go through" response I'd be amazed. What does it even mean?!

I've used the "Necessary for the deal to go through" response quite a few times. Mainly when I'm signing a back-up GK or defender. I needed one for squad depth so the deal was necessary.

It is a question which gets asked too frequently though and could do with some changes/alternatives in future releases, but that's an idea for the wishlist thread.

Seriously, the game looks awesome and super good. I only have two issues concerning game speed which I hope can be answered. Why is it that when watching player profiles you have to wait a few seconds before you see the player profile for the first time (not second time strangely enough). And why is the game speed a bit slower than FM14 even though I have a super laptop?

Hi, been playing the game for a few days now and although I didn't love it at first it's grown on me loads and I'm massively impressed.

Few comments: first, is there any reason behind the in-match team-talks not having the option to be delivered 'passionately'? I'd have thought this would have been one of the more common ways managers communicated with their players from the touchline. Seems odd that it's omitted here while it's included in dressing-room team-talks and player conversations.

Also not sure why the right-click function on the tactics screen as been removed? It was the easiest way to select a team from scratch, for sure.

The goalkeeper issue at lower levels has already been noted I realise, but I think players in non-league are generally more stupid defensively than I'd like. I've seen quite a few instances of defenders apparently wandering back to retrieve a ball over the top, but being beaten to it by a forward who was at least twenty yards behind them.

Like the new UI, think it is sleek and the sidebar is smart. New scouting system is top as well.

Sorry if anything I've written is unhelpful or has already been covered.

A thought on going on holiday...

I frequently go on holiday in between stretches when no games are being played or when I don't feel like playing a certain game (lower side, friendly, etc). It also helps to speed up the rate of play because, as others have commented, it is easy to get stuck clicking through an endless sea of news items, of which 95% of the time are ignorable but god forbid you miss that agent offer from an actual decent player who is unsettled at his current club that arsenal snaps up and who scores the last second goal against you in the north london derby. Fans riot, stadium burned, puppies executed, and what's worse is that I'm out of a job

So yes, it's very frustrating to return from holiday and to see that I've miss an important managerial decision such as a transfer offer or, as it sits in beta, when a player wishes to discuss an issue with me but cannot because apparently "on holiday" translates to "stuck in a turkish prison with no access to phone, e-mail, or basic contact with the outside world."

Example:

Playing at Tottenham, there has been some rumours that Jan Vertonghen is interested in moving to barca, but as our current form is excellent (5 wins, 1 draw, no losses). There about a week and a half break during which no matches are scheduled, so instead of clicking on boring news articles for the next 15 minutes (and yes my subscriptions are set how I want them) I decide to go on holiday.

Upon returning from holiday I see that barca has put in an offer for JV, which was declined without my approval as the carrier pigeon the board sent to me was apparently pulverised by the turbine of a low-flying Boeing 747. "No big deal, I don't want to trade him anyway" I think as I casually click on my tactics menu and am immediately beset upon by my players with burning pitchforks and tar (Lamela rabona's a moltov cocktail at me) as apparently JV had approached me todiscuss why I turned down the barca transfer request, only to go wailing like a bitch back to the rest of the team when he realized I was unavailable, his loud cries falling deaf upon the impenetrable 40 foot walls of the hell-dungeon I currently stay at.

Bottom line: I wish there was an option that would alert you of certain noteworthy news items while on holiday, and allow you to handle them without fear of returning to a full mutiny with your wife/hubby and children raped and murdered. Maybe there's an option that states "Return/pause holiday if" and then several options would be available, such as "a transfer offer for a first team member arises" or "a first team member wishes to discuss an item" - that way I could control what items I would deem important enough to break me away from my rat stew and damp corner. As it is treated now, and as I've so subtly hinted at, the holiday option is unrealistic as it always NO CONTACT of any sort with the team, which in the real world obviously woudn't happen. If a big request came in or if a player really needed to talk to me, there's this nifty technology called the telephone that they can reach me on. Even turkish prisons must adhere to some basic standards.

The squad is unhappy that Lovren is not allowed a transfer and a team meeting is called. 0 players attend and I still have to talk to "them". Afterwards the squad wants a second meeting because they are not happy with how I handle things. The next day Lovren states that he no longer wishes to leave due to "recent improvements in harmony".

Couple of things I've noticed whilst playing:

1) There are a lot of red cards in the other games in my league (English Championship) - there's pretty much a red card in every game in each round of fixtures.

2) I am 12 points clear at the top and about half way through the season yet I'm getting media reports saying former players are urging the board to stick with me.

3) There are very regularly incredibly high scoring games in the U21 and U18 leagues......I've got at least 3 strikers in my U21s with goal ratios of more than 1 a game......one player has got 10 in 5!

4) One of my players wanted to leave but I refused - I was then asked by the media what affect giving in to player requests would have on other players.

Just had an own goal scored when 3 of my players started fighting with eachother over the ball close to my goal, ending with one of my players actually shooting the ball in his own goal. The infuriating thing was that none of the opponent players where in a position to challange them for the ball. It seems a lot of the terrible defending and clearing comes from players playing facing the wrong way, they go to clear the ball but is usully facing their own goal instead of the actual play.

has anyone else find the same problem as me that there are too many goals in a game and i can never keep a clean sheet away from home. I'm ace at home winning most games by 3 or 4 goals but when i play away i seems to lose 4-2, 6-3 or 7-1 most games. It's annoying

2 and 4 - If you have a save from just before you get that news item and/or questions by the media, you could upload the save to the FTP server and report it here: http://community.sigames.com/forumdisplay.php/424-Media-News-and-Press-Conferences

For starters the defending of the team your managing needs sorting out . Played one season with Chelsea conceded 68 goals, I have been 2 or 3 up at ht in roughly 15 matches and then got beat or drew the match. I know I'm not the only one that this is happening to.

Also my team having 20+ shots on goal and scoring 1 computer has 5 or 6 shot and scores at least once. These problems need fixing ASAP, that the only things that let fm15 down. Everything else i think is pretty much spot on.

Link to post

Just finished my second season where I averaged scoring 3.8 goals a game, and conceding 1.7. Unrealistic, but we all know this. It's fascinating to watch though, mostly in the same way that it would be fascinating to watch drunk girls fight over who gets to go home with a binman with one eye and a gammy leg.

This is a known issue and the general consensus is that there are far too many goals in the game. I think the ME is hugely promising but there are clearly areas that need fixing before release.

Except I regularly tell my players they're useless following games they should have won, and I don't get the "throwing a tantrum" moments.

Alright Henry Winter, we all bow to your superior knowledge. Stories like that do get out, yes, but probably many, many more don't. I would be absolutely amazed if none of the players Mourinho criticised weren't a bit miffed with what he said. Some might even raise their concerns with him/coaching staff. That's exactly what's happening in FM.

When they lose or draw an easy win isn't the issue here, read up before commenting. We're talking about Pep not happy with his players after a 7-1 win against Roma when they gave up half a dozen CCCs. On another day this could easily have been a defeat. And no they don't just go to the coaching staff with the complaints, Unh icon shows up and they inform the press of their concerns and the media ask you in the conferences if you're thinking of delegating the team talks to more inspirational speakers. Have you not played the game?

Today Mourinho has been criticising his fringe players after their display in the league cup last night, in FM they would all be throwing a tantrum. Some players of course are a bit prone to getting on their high horses but most are pretty professional.

Yeah, Mourinho did the same thing last night, but it was easy enough, because I generally do tell them I'm not happy after a winning margin of 1 where it should've been 3 or more and they all agree. It's when the performances drop but we end up winning by 2 to 3 goals they get angry and disgruntled when told their performances are not good enough. The point I'm trying to make is, as a top club in a league, read Real/Barca, Chelsea/ManC/Arsenal or Bayern winning against a relegation threatened or even midtable team by two to three goals isn't enough if you're looking to control the game and totally nullify their threat which is the aim. Giving them 2-3 CCCs and winning by 2 goals in not acceptable, as proven recently by the top managers mentioned above. The only chance of players getting disgruntled in real life is when the harmony isn't there and the players aren't together. As a top team you need to continually strive to be better, no matter how good you are. This is the mentality that needs to be accommodated in FM. It should take Southampton a few seasons which is reasonable to adhere to these higher standards but for the Elite it should be a given.

All by all, congratulations. More "aha" than "oh not again" experiences!

Great Beta.

Some Plusses:

- side navigation is good and quicker

- clicking through on the FM "globe" icon allows to quickly and handsomely get to another club etc

- much more difficult to keep condition levels up. When 2x game per week need to actively rotate and rest

- manager shouts during game are GREAT! It could be me but when I tell them to show some passion I see them for 5-10 minutes run more and tackle more intense. You can make a game turn / decide with the shouts

- players do not always execute what you ask them to do. Eg. Gk distribution to center backs. Often followed but some situations gk disregards it and kicks it long.

- the cuts in replays are nice and engaging

- tunnel interviews add some spice

- tactical changes applied much quicker. In the past it could take 10 game minutes before the sub did happen!

- referee doesn't always respect the exact extra time

- when changing player position and role in the game (for example from DM to mid mid, game will try to copy over the instructions

- players have active positives and negative feelings that do update ( e.g. broke into game squad)

Some Negatives:

- press conferences are still predictable and boring in general.

- tactical screen - omg what you guys were smoking when signing off on this change!!! I select my team in "squad" in order to not be in that screen

- auto sizing columns and views is a painful

- some of known ME issues indeed with GK fumbling balls, own goals and some misbalances ( but under review so ok)

Don't slag off your whole team then. If you've scored 3 or 4 goals then quite clearly your attackers aren't too blame, it's the defenders that are at fault. Have you tried praising midfield and attack and having a go at your defenders?

We really need more options in the Squad screen.

I want to add some more stat columns like Assists and Key Passes. Doesn't let you add more than few though. If you're playing on a 24" screen you've got plenty of space to fill.

Next I'll tackle training.

* I have a couple players that complain about training being too hard. I take away all their training completely, and they are still apparently doing "heavy" training.

* Sometimes I'm told that a player is unhappy about their training but I go in and look at them and it says nothing about them actually being unhappy about their training. Who do I believe? The coach? Or the report that says nothing of the sort?

Ex: Last training report I received told me that I have 6 players unhappy with training. When I go to training overview it says Unhappy: 2, Content: 2, everyone else is happy. So even if content really means unhappy... that's still 4. Which makes me ask another question... Does content mean unhappy now? I checked both of those players and they seemed okay to me. The 2 unhappy players were the 2 that I took all training off from and they still say "heavy" training.

To go further on this, I've just signed a player on August 3rd. We've started cup competitions in Scotland and League play starts on August 8th. He is unhappy with training because it started too early in the year for him. He was not even here...

I've got 22 columns on my squad screen, I have a 19.5" display. It was a challenge though, you tend to add a column and another disappears. Pretty sure I read they're working on a fix for that though :)

Currently playing Fm14 again to compare. The football really seems to be on rails, compared to the dynamic and unpredictable (in a realistic way) games of FM15. Just balance the goal ratios and defensive mistakes in lower league football SI, i beg you.

I'm in love with the match engine in FM15 for exactly this reason, the football is brilliant too watch and the new animations are such a massive improvement. Goalkeeping and defending AI are the only downside right now and I'm sure that'll be fixed very quickly. I challenge anyone to play FM15 for a week and then go back to FM14, I don't think you could do it, you'd miss the new ME too much.

Out of interest guys, has anybody experienced a ton of situations where your team "switches play" and your full back gets the ball on the wing of their favoured foot, has nobody near him, plenty of time then his first touch is so bad the ball bounces about 2 meters off him and lets the team counter attack you and score with a hoof over your two center backs?

It's happening to me every match and I'm conceding because of it.

Yes a solution is to stop my full backs going forward but they are an essential part of how I play and this continuous first touch issue where a light pass bounces back off them is getting frustrating to watch.

Anybody else experiencing it with full backs specifically? (i know others have mentioned first touch in general being poor)

I'm using a mac, not sure if it makes a difference. And this might already be covered, but I can't seem to designate my subs so I'm having to resort to asking my assistance to pick the squad so every position is utilized on the bench, and from there, I can change who's in the first 11...

Definitely impressed with the new layout. Easy to find things and it makes more sense the way it is.

The scouting system is much improved as well and has a feel of having to work to find players.

If they can just sort the ME the game will be brilliant. It's not unplayable but the same things happen repeatedly.

Players shooting from ridiculous angles when a cross/square ball is on

Keepers palming balls straight to the onrushing attacker instead of pushing it wider

Keepers sort of saving it but turning it into their own net

Strikers not hitting the target when one on one. I'd say they hit the target about 1 out of every 3.

Long balls catch out the defence and they fail to react as attackers 10+ yards behind get to the ball before them. This happens occasionally in other areas of play and it looks as though the game has decided who is getting the ball and it is just a error with the 3D representation. Same ting with players dwelling on the ball turning in circles whilst players run and take it off them.

I tried playing 1 at the back last night and putting my tactics to just route one. I should in theory get absolutely hammered but I competed in games and even had more possession in a couple of them.

It would appear they are working on the ME at the lower levels so this could all be fixed and end up with an amazing game. Let's hope so

One of the most annoying bugs so far. A players has a big injury, as soon as he resumes full training, he starts to consider leaving the club to gain first team football. How is he not gaining first team football when he was injured?

Same problem if you drop a player for a couple games because his form has dropped. Why is there no loyalty in this game? Regardless of squad status, players are willing to jump ship if they don't start a couple games. The new promises feature is pretty pointless at the moment too because as soon as you complete one promise the player will make you promise something else. No loyalty in this game.

Could be unhappy because it doesn't mean having a "First Team Player" squad status means that he will get game time.

Been reading the thread with interest and the above really concerns me as the two examples above have been a bot of an issue for as long as I can remember going back to at least FM12. Now surely if the ME is improving all the time these repetitive issues "should" be worked out or is it as the conspiracy theorist in me thinks it is to keep the amount of goals down?!

A lot has been said about the Goalkeeping but what is undeniable is the sheer variety of goal keeping calamities. Brilliant one just now, GK came out, thunderous shot from my striker that came back off the bar rolled behind the keeper who just stood rooted on the penalty spot while my striker ran behind him to put the ball in the net. In the previous game a cross from the left was deflected by a defender towards the goal the keeper made a one handed safe but palmed the ball out to an attacker who smacked it in the net. We could have an fm15 what happened next channel on YouTube, plenty to choose from there’s one every game.

To be honest this used to wind me up like mad on FM14 and I saw it once or twice but then set my winger to shoot less often and when he's been in a crossing position it hasn't been a problem on FM15.

As ever, PKMs please.

It's just the conspiracy theorist in you. its not as simple as working something out from before.

I know they help but I would have to muck about downloading an ftp client, installing it when it has no other use for me and I'm in the middle of packing for a house move so my free time is being spent enjoying the great things in the new FM and having a laugh at the bad, from Monday for a week I will have no internet bar hot spotting from my phone but I will try to get round to it if I can.
