Still can't think of anyone's mental enough to take Cole.
apart from Harry there isn't many others he is probably our best bet.

Will Sturridge not be played as an out and out striker? Looks much more effective there than out wide in my opinion.
i'd think he'd be mixing it up with Suarez, pushing on from a wide position to a central one when Suarez drops deep or goes into the channels

I'm assuming we will be getting rid of Downing/Cole and DS and Ince will be their replacements. Which will be a great improvement on and off the pitch (Wages)

Hopefully means we will still bring in a striker.

Isn't Sturridge on silly money?

Lads buy a copy of the justice collective if you haven't already. Only 99p on I tunes so won't break the bank, and if it keeps X factor of number 1 it's an even better cause!!

Got 3 copies so far. Think everybody in my family will be getting a copy off me for xmas! Every penny counts to this cause, and if we can get it to number 1 it further spreads the message.

@JamesPearceEcho: Daniel Sturridge deal has hit a snag but still expect it to go through. If it doesn't #LFC have Kevin Gameiro lined up as a loan deal.

Why not both?

He is on £60k a week at Chelsea. I heard it will be the same amount for you but I guess around £70k he will be earning at you if he moves.

Is Daniel Sturridge not the striker? We'd have him, Borini and Suarez. Room for one more I guess but I doubt well have the resources for anyone else.

Cole is on £90k isn't he?

Yeah Cole is. I was referring to Sturridge.

I know. I was referencing who ever said Cole is on more than that as a comparison.

I think Cole's basic wage is 90k a week, but we also gave him a huge signing on bonus which is paid over the life of his contract resulting in him getting 120k a week. That's often the number quoted in 'news'papers.

If we managed to sell him the 90k would be off the books but he'd still be entitled to the remainder of the signing on bonus.

Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has urged teenage winger Raheem Sterling to sign a new contract at the club.

The youngster turned 18 earlier this month but negotiations over his first senior deal have yet to reach an conclusion over wage demands, and other clubs are closely monitoring the situation.

Manager Brendan Rodgers remains confident an agreement will be reached and Comolli, who was at Anfield when Sterling broke into the first team under former boss Kenny Dalglish, advised the player to stay put.

"My advice would be sign the contract and stay at Liverpool unless there is something which makes him really uncomfortable," said the Frenchman.

"We tried to look after Raheem as much as we could - he was really a long-term project - and I think he should commit.

"I really don't think money should be an issue. He is 18 and it is going to be one of many contracts he is going to sign and he is going to end up being a wealthy individual.

"The important contract, if you are money-orientated, is the one you sign when you are 31 not 18."

Liverpool are closing in on deals to sign Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge and Blackpool's Tom Ince, who left the Reds as a reserve-team player in the summer of 2011 having rejected the offer of a new contract.

The Reds have been criticised for their handling of the Ince situation but Comolli, sacked by owners Fenway Sports Group in April, insists the issue was not in their control at the time.

And he backed the 20-year-old, who has scored 13 goals in the npower Championship, to return a better player.

"When I arrived (at Liverpool in November 2010) Tom was at the end of his contract," the Frenchman told talkSPORT.

"One of the first things I did was meet him and his dad, and Paul was concerned the style of play (under Roy Hodgson) was not suited to his son, who was a quick winger.

"When Roy went I think we made four or five contract offers to Tom which he kept turning down...he didn't feel it was the right place for him to stay.

"The last offer would have made him the highest-earning player beneath the first team but to be fair to him I don't think money was the issue.

"We never released him. You don't release a player like this, you can't force him to stay.

"I am very pleased that he is doing well. If they buy him back, good for him and good for Liverpool."

Comolli also defended the club's transfer policy during his stay which saw them buy the likes of Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson for inflated fees - all of whom are no longer in favour with Rodgers.

"The difference between how much we got for seven players and how much we spent was not big in terms of top-six clubs," he said of the spending under Dalglish.

"The wage bill went down dramatically, which was what the owners wanted to do.

"If you do 26-27 deals in the space of three transfer windows you are bound to get some wrong - but what do you say about Luis Suarez, he was a big signing?

"Of course it was a very high fee (£35million) for Andy which was driven by the very high fee (£50million) for Fernando Torres.

"We had a conference call late in the afternoon (on transfer deadline day) and I said 'This is how much you could lose, are you okay to do it?' and they said 'We want to do it because Fernando Torres has got to go'."

Get so angry whenever I read about the Carroll transfer

I wouldn't say it is passing the buck. At the end of the day the buck does stop with the owners and Ayre. They're the ones who okayed it. Obviously Comolli and Kenny need to be apportioned a large part of the blame too, as we never should have even been in for Carroll in the first place. The whole thing was just another in a long line of cluster****s by the club.

We've got a date with Zenit on Valentine's Day in the Europa.

I imagine the Zenit fans will be supporting Suarez more than some of their own players.

Tough draw, but hopefully we can pounce on the fact that everyone there hates Hulk and they dont play as a team :D.

Basel or Dnipro for the last 16 as well. Two winnable rounds I think. Not great to travel to though will probably wait and see if we make the last 8 before looking to go to an away.

Just remembered Skrtel used to play for Zenit. Will this be his first time back there since joining us?

Could have drawn Ateltico, so Zenit is decent enough.

There are few pushovers at this stage of the competition TBH anyway. Will actually be a shame if they abolish it after 2014 and roll everyone into a massive Champions League.

Zenit were a bit of a shambles in the CL group stages tbh but it depends how seriously you're gonna take it too and if they're still imploding with Hulk walking around with a sad face or not

I'm not going today as was going to visit my brother near Brighton but weather is bad so staying home. Last season we beat Newcastle, Chelsea and Everton when I didn't go anfield. I hope we don't get Sturridge, Chelsea fan at work says he misses more chances than Torres but I also find him to be selfish only positive things are he has pace and direct. I am not sure he will form a good partnership with Suarez.

Liverpool need a left back, a winger, a midfielder and drop Gerrard to the bench as I'm not sure Shelvey is good enough to play week in week out.

If we do decide on a replacement for reina we should just go get Mihaylov back from Twente.

Got a buy back clause don't we? No idea how good he actually is mind.

Won Bulgarian footballer and a couple of friends who bet on Dutch football have been impressed by him. The buyback is only €1.35m too.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that this may be the last season of his career.

With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, the 34-year-old has conceded that he is unsure of his immediate future.

The defender, who has made 716 appearances for the Merseyside club, has insisted that he would not consider playing for a different club.

"There is a chance that I will retire at the end of the season," Carragher told the Daily Express.

"It is the last season of my contract and the club have not said anything to me yet.

"I am open-minded, but I would not play on if I was killing the team when I played. I would not be hanging on for money or anything.

"And I would not go anywhere else. It is Liverpool or nothing for me."

Carragher has gained 38 international caps for England, with his last coming in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup.

Good news lads

Leandro Damiao is probably available for less than £10M, what a buy that would be.

If we're really paying that for Ince shows how much of a joke in the transfer market we've become.

10million for Damiao? Where did you get that from?

Edit - If they want 10mill for Ince then it's time to look else where. I guess that's the problem with ****ing up pre season and having to do business in January, people try and hold teams to ransom. January transfer windows are such a ridiculous idea anyway.

Why don't we just get Kacaniklic back since we in the market for ex players.

No Sterling or Allen today interesting to see how we do.
