Official Football Manager 2015 Feedback Thread 15.1.3

That's not the point and I do buy only players that my scouts have found. But it generally is quite stupid that AI teams are so passive in the market.

Most people who buy Balanta, Romero etc do it in the first window, when AI teams have already used their budgets.

I just noticed something wicked that I have not seen before.

If you hover over a team's games won/drawn/lost column in the league table it will show you who the team has won/drawn/lost against, and just as cool is that hovering over goals for/goals against will list the team you've scored/conceded against in order by magnitude

Yep.... 10 minutes to go away against Chelsea and 0-2 down and came back to 2-2. Major momentum swing yes, Chelsea panic yes, er sadly no as per usual an Azpilquiwhatshisname long throw and an unmarked header went straight at Adrian who decided to throw one in got them another goal to lose me the game!

Ah yes the curse of the "my team will concede because the freaking opposition has a long throw specialist".

To say this does my head in would be putting it mildly.

A further positive of FM15, that could be the best ever (and I'me not been short of criticism the past years)...I usually play LLM, if possible using data updates that go furher down the pyramid...in the previous editions the attendance was always in the same range, League and FA Cup...this was annoying and not realistic, since an FA Cup match cannot attract the same attendance as a League 9 match...in FM15 i'm playing at level 9, played an home League match with an around 150 attendance, played the extra-prel round of the FA Cup with a 760 attendance!!! Great impact!!!

My observations so far as follows:

Crossing - still way to effective. Ive had three or four games after 21 matches where opposition has scored three times from identical goals. Ball to front post and goal. Ive tried using OI to dull this down which mildly works but inevitably i always seem to concede at least one.

Corners - same as crosses an absolute ball ache. Theres way to many and opposition seem to score far too many. Ive used some recommended set piece settings from the forum. Again this has dulled it down but this wont stop the sheer number of them.

Goalkeepers = wouldnt put a percentage on it but the vast majority of goals if not a cross or corner will come from a goalkeeper parry. Striker follows up a save and keeper does not respond in anyway. I think the parrying is a link to the sheer number of corners. It doesnt help that so many shots seem to be hit with such power and this probably causes the engine to get the keeper to parry.

Long throws - ridiculous. Never seen so many.

Defenders hoofing the ball aimlessly - im playing short passing yet im seeing alot of aimless punts when there seems no reason to do so.

Sudden upturns = you can be leading comfortably and all of a sudden its like the opposition turn into supermen. Im all up for a resurgence but its far too common. Further to this it doesnt seem to matter how comfortable you are you can guarentee you will concede a goal at some point and its particulalry difficult to prevent.

The match engine in general i find poor. I watch extended highights and its very repetitive. Interesting to see people saying its the best yet, i havent not enjoyed FM as much as i have so far. Ive enjoyed some good results but the match engine spoils it for me.

Long throws have been horrifically overpowered forever now. It sucks & it's about time they were toned down.

Guess how many bug reports have been raised about long throws, that are backed up with evidence? As a clue, you could count them on less than half a hand.

The fact that bug reports aren't logged doesn't deny existence of a problem, but SI's eye is inevitably drawn to bug reports containing multiple examples of an issue. If this is a problem that really needs investigation, then further examples are needed.

I haven't checked the bugs forum but I'll say this, they've been op'ed since FM13, I struggle to understand why it's not been noted more. I'll look for examples and be sure to post them. Is there an existing thread I can add to?

Yeah that might be one part of the issue but it doesn't apply on that Fede Vico example. Just doesn't feel right or realistic (and realism is the thing that SI does seek?) that you're able to build a dream team with peanuts and without any resistance from AI. I used to buy more players in older versions of the game and I'm quite certain that AI teams did compete a lot more a few versions ago. Isn't this quite a big issue yet no-one has mentioned it before in feedback?

Could someone from SI comment this issue?

I don't have many issues tbf for me it's a great game, totally immersive , I'm a rubbish manager and it takes about a dozen attempts before I start to get to grips with the game.

BUT

If one of my players gets himself sent off after 2 stupid challenges do I not have the right to fine him for what could have been a match changing sending off?

So Fellaini gets himself sent off away to Sunderland and at the end of the game team talk I tell him it was silly to get sent off which leads to him being demoralised??

So now I'm miffed with him for that and give him what I feel is a fair one week fine and of course he throws his toys out of the pram and wants to leave the club as a result.

Great.

Just wanted to added my two cents, i think the ME is definitely going in the right direction, though its always going to have its issues, im definitely less frustrated witht he game by this point compared to the same time with FM14.

However, i want to add my voice to the list of folks who are really not satisfied with the tactics screen, ive tried to give it a go and get used to it but its just not intuitive at all. i find myself having to regularly click back and forth between tactics and squad screen just to do basic selections for matchday. that shouldnt have to be the case.

Just thought I would stick this on here as I asked the question on intercepted passes in the tactics forum and I know a few have moaned (me included) about a lot of defenders hoofing it. Cleon suggested I looked at a match or two back to see how they were occurring so I looked at a couple of games and ticked those passes on the heat maps and it was interesting really.

GK - Mainly loses it due to long kicks or when clearing from a pass back. Might be due to playing a 4141 as the flat midfield doesn't get beyond the striker for any flick on's although Carroll is always injured so the playing striker is probably not winning the headers. Will change to distribute to full backs unless one of the new settings is a good option this year?

Defenders - A lot of these are from clearances, headers or just clearing crosses or set pieces. As my defence retreats and clears most of my players are retreating so no-one is getting on the end of a clearance. Not much I can do from open play but a couple of tweaks on players positions for set pieces may be an idea so to leave another man forward at least. Same with throw ins down the line. The opposition tends to win it which is annoying because the throw ins tend to be aimed high rather than to feet.

The long passes from defenders either seem to be an attempt at a through ball but that's mainly from Cresswell so I may look at his PPM's or when a forward is closing them down so that's acceptable IMO.

Misc - The only irritant seems to be a handful of passes that are severely under hit but the games I looked at had drizzle as the weather so whilst you would expect the pitch to be quicker I am not sure if FM looks at a wet pitch to be heavier?

Only based on a match or two but there doesn't seem to be too much that is out of the realms of realistic possibility.

I will start by admitting I have not read the 33 pages of this thread, so if my points have been made (as they probably have) I apologize in advance.

My experience is with Manchester United, so some things might be different if you manage smaller teams.

The new scouting system.

I love the idea of it. I love that I can follow players for extended periods of time, and that there are doubts about young players true potential. No more picking up all the best youngsters out there and you are set for eternity.

But the assignments don't seem to work. De Gea said he wanted to leave for Real Madrid. I told him we would sell if they met our valuation (50 mill) and asked my scouts to find a replacement, and gave it high priority. Not a single report. Same situation with Di Maria, no reports. Now this is not a huge problem when I am managing United, because there are only a few players out there that can replace these players, and I know who they are. But if I was managing in lower divisions, some scouting help would be great...

Injuries.

I have had 3 players over the age of 25 injured for 6+ months, and all 3 were absolutely destroyed. As in career at the very top level over. Down from 4-4,5 stars to 2,5-3 stars, and only able to recover 0,5 stars over the next year of training and playing (I really tried to get them back to their old level because I liked them, and replacing them would cost 30-50 million each! But no dice. Had to sell all of them because they were no longer anywhere near their required level of performance. I know 3 players is not a big selection, but it seems like there is a problem with the way injuries affect older players (by older I mean 25-30, not 35). If this was the case in real life, Smalling, Jones, Van Persie!, etc, would all be retired or playing non league football. I know some injuries ruin a players career in real life too, and I know some players never get back to their original level, but a lot of players have long injuries and come back better than ever (stronger and more agile for instance after a lot of alternative training). In FM there seems to be no randomness in how injuries affect players. But of course, maybe I have just been unlucky and my players all got specific types of injuries that are hard to recover from (2 x damaged cruciate ligament and torn hamstring (only 3 months, but it was the second occurrence of the same injury).

Dribbling.

There seems to be a "no dribbling zone" in the center of the last third of the pitch. And a "super dribbling zone" along the wings. Rafael (and Jones, Smalling, Stones or whomever I put on the right back) can blow past 3!!! defenders and get the cross in, but Januzaj (now a world calss player with great dribbling, flair and pace) is really struggling to get past even slow and mediocre defenders in the center. When I play him on the wing he blows past any number of world class full backs and what have you, to put in the cross. This makes wide players really over powered.

Heading.

And it seems like the attackers heading abilities have once again been nerfed to FM13 levels, to the point where my big man with great strength, jumping and heading abilities simply cannot score with his head no matter how good the cross is. My target man striker has 17 goals. Not one with his head. And it is not for lack of trying, or lack of quality crosses. Rafael has 15 assist, not one of those came from a header. All but one were from a cross.

Home vs Away.

There seems to be a mechanic that really exaggerates the difference between playing at home or away. yes, I know there is such a difference, and that it is significant, but hear me out.

At home I have 60% possession and create tons of chances against teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and City. In fact, I consider home games against these teams a sure win. Points in the bag, if you will. I have lost one home game against the top teams in 3 seasons, and that was a blatant highway robbery by Chelsea in the first season. Then I play the same tactic against newly promoted teams, bottom of the league and on a long painful losing streak. 50-50 % possession and a well deserved 2-1 loss. Please understand it is not the score that pisses me off. It is the possession stat. Barca has 60% possession against everybody. They lose sometimes, but they always control possession. Home and away. My question is this: Why would a tactic that allows me 60% possession at home to Chelsea (not to mention against Real Madrid in the Champions League final) not work away against a much weaker team? Makes no sense. We should be having 60% possession against Burnley and the like, home and away. Might not create any good chances, might miss our chances, and we certainly are vulnerable to counter attacks when our pressing fails so they could get a goal or two. But never in a million years would they equal us in possession. Or am I just wrong here?

Tactics in general.

I have not tried everything, so I can't say for sure, but it does seem like the current match engine really favors attacking, possession based tactics. I cannot find a tactic that allows me to soak up pressure effectively for the life of me. I can't find anyone else who have come up with such a tactic either. Tons of possession and attacking tactics out there, but so far I have not found a single one that consistently works as intended in terms of soaking up pressure, keeping a clean sheet and getting in a few counter attacks. But I might find it. I just doubt it exists at this point. At this point I am experimenting with counter intuitive instructions for the team and individual players, but sadly no joy as of yet. If anyone reading this has such a tactic, please share!

Lastly a point that is no huge deal for me, but does seem to reduce realism a tiny bit. Ready? Here goes...

Real Madrid and Barcelona does not come in and take my best players. Say what? You heard me.

When Ronaldo left for Real Madrid, United had won the Champions League and were winning the Premier League pretty much every year (slight exaggeration). He still left.

Now, We have finished 2-1-4 in the Premier League and gone quarter final-first cup round-winner in the Champions League.

Adnan Januzaj have absolutely dominated all season, including a fantastic display against Real Madrid in the Champions League final, he is 22 and rated as world class (4,5 stars) and not so much as a sniff from Real and Barcelona. Come on now. Please.

Like I said, not a big problem, but in real life Real Madrid would be mortgaging the entire city of Madrid to get this guy. Just saying.

What the hell happens to tactcs I've saved, is a bloody nightmare getting them back if I start a new save. It saves 2 tacics I don't want and the ones I've tweaked to get right are in some kind of tactics folder I have to open/import/export etc etc, so much hassle just to retrieve a tactic I saved :mad:

Just given Younes Kaboul a leave of absence because he's failed to settle at the club and in the country. This being the same Kaboul that has been my club captain (now vice) and has been in the UK since 2008 and at Spurs (second stint) since 2010 (it's now 2018 in the game).

Game breaker. Have uninstalled FM and thrown my pc into the bin.

Let's be fair, he can't be blamed for using any excuse to get away from Spurs, however lame :D

So much wrong with player interactions it's not even funny anymore..

I've had what you're describing too. Club captain, been at the club 11 years, apparently can't settle, wants a leave of absence..Sure..

The most recent one I had was this:

I sent a player out on a season long loan.

The day he comes back at the end of the season, the same day he returns, he complains he's not getting enough first team football.

I had loaned him to HSV in the Bundesliga, where he was first choice and played a ton of games to boot.

The game is beyond moronic at times.

Oh, and he was a a hot prospect, so it's not like I was promising him games in the first team or anything..Oo

Does need to to be cleaned up a little. I think the whole interaction model needs revamping also. Some of the media related questions just don't fit well. Thrash a side 5-1 and journalists want to talk about the opposing teams best player or the single goal they scored. The unsettled player thing is a known issue (at least I think it is) so hoping the next patch fixes that particular headache.

This is ridiculous.. For some reason i'm in administration having just got back to back promotions, we are 1m in the green, we're in the second tier of German football and no loan debts to speak of.. Currently watching all my extremely promising youth prospects being snapped up for nothing because i can do nothing about it.. Also lost my captain and most of my key players from their contracts expiring cause i can only offer them £100 a week despite being 30k below my wage budget? What on earth am i to do..?

And on top of that my players are complaining at me for selling my top youngsters when i had no say in the matter! + Board see my decision to let our captain leave on a free as an abberation! I had absolutely no way of keeping him as they were only letting me offer him £100!

^ yeah sure, no match engine's fault here

Timo Horn is the GK pretty promising young lad(player of Koln, plays for my team Liverpool in game)

It's a bug; One you can report in the ME Bugs forum with the PKM uploaded to the FTP server. It's always appreciated.

SI are being uncomfortably quiet; the calm before the storm perhaps?

P.S i'm not of the opinion thinking the game needs to be TOTALLY changed, I believe a match engine rethink regarding basic attacking and defensive principles will do the trick.

At least they've kept me in the game:lol:

Can people stick to constructive feedback please...

To be clear...

If you have a concern about bugs.. post it in the bug reporting section with details.

If you have feedback, post it with details .. and constructively.

If you want to post inane, dull gyazo gif's that show nothing out of the ordinary with no detail or explanation.. find somewhere else or keep it to yourself.

Is anyone else totally sick of the AI scoring incredible long shots into the top corner from players 30 yard out with their back to goal?

I've tried searching for this with the usual results: search all posts returns endless huge multi page threads and search in titles returns nothing of value, so "use the search facility" holier-than-thou apparatchiks can go away.
