Did Fifa pick Jozy Altidore then??

wtf are you going on about? one miss doesn't make a **** player. he was our most dangerous attacking player all game and was giving the algerian defence fits. I'm assuming you didn't actually watch the game.

Tbf it we're going to win the WC we have to beat the big teams. If we're anxious to avoid them then it shows that we don't seriously believe we can win it (and therefore won't). :thdn:

Sounds good on paper but who wouldn't take an easier route to the final. Playing better teams means more chance of getting knocked out. Leave the Argentina's until the last minute.

Doesn't matter now anyways.

serbia were better than germany ffs

people getting carried away with the germans beating a 10 man australia side 4-0 :(

How wrong can you be?

Germany were much better than Serbia and were desperately unlucky not to win even with 10 men.

People aren't getting carried away with the Australia game because it was clear Germany were far superior even before the sending off and could easily still have won it by 4 or more even without the red card.

it's all pointless really either way i fancy us out in next round

me too tbh, a nervy England vs Germany. I call Germany. A shame- that USA goal was like a defeat-had they not scored it England might have been gifted a route to the semis.

No, you were right, it was a deliberate punch on the replay, no part of the elbow made contact. This combined with the disallowed Dempsey goal that was clearly onside almost made for another decision made by another horrible ref.

Also, the red card to Algeria was deserved. Was 1 minute of extra time left, he already had 1 yellow and they crowded the ref yelling in his face.

Nah, he wasn't involved. Yebda was right in the ref's face, as were two other Algerians, then Yahia came over and pulled his team-mates away then walked over to speak to the ref, who then mistook him for one of the original three and gave him a second yellow.

A case of mistaken identity, though Yebda should definitely have been booked. Second time in a few months an Algerian has put his head to a referee's.

'mon lads .

It's only Slovenia though, but a vital win nonetheless. We looked changed tonight, we looked far better than we have for a while. I enjoyed it, but already the euphoria is being drained away and I'm fidgeting over a possible tie with the Germans.

And it ****ing clashes with the Grand Prix as well

You would think by some peoples celebrations that England have just won the World Cup! Glad that they finished second and will most likely face Germany in the next round.

No idea what game you were watching.

Serbia won but failed to impress, whilst Germany had the better of the second half despite their numerical disadvantage.

Sums up the game well. Serbia did nothing of note.

If Germany and Serbia both win who wins the group?

Likely Germany on goal difference.

Yebda should have had a straight red anyways, even if Yahia hadn't gotten a 2nd yellow. TBH the ref was pretty lenient throughout, ex. the hack down job on Beasley with only Yahia to beat.

That's how I saw it. Pretty sure the ref intended to book the middle of the three because he was shaking his fist right in the refs face.

Booking the wrong player is deserved now?

Wales have the best chance of the Four Nations of getting to Euro 2012, let alone WC2014. Rep of Ireland also have a very good shout. Calling them the Four Nations as that's their soon to start tournament and excludes England.

no trouble in having delight at your team going through, but acting like they have just won the actual World Cup is hilarious. Seeing the group you would have thought England would win it easily, but they struggled to even finish second. England didn't even deserve to go through, they were shocking.

Who's the more bitter?

The people pointing out rightly that today really isn't something that should be celebrated as much as it is. That the performance was barely a level above what has gone before and that if they continue to perform like that they'll struggle against the better sides.

or

The Englishman who has to take a pop at Scotland & Wales who have populations of 5m & 3m respectively?

We know we're minor Footballing nations. It would be nice to be better and it would be nice to qualify, but we never kid ourselves that we're anything other than what we are.

We didn`t play well at all in the first 2 matches but we did ourselves justice in the last match and got the result we needed.

how are they acting like they won the world cup... they got out of the group stages which is still a massive achievement- that unfortunately Scotland didn't get to achieve.

What, that we got to the knock-out stages of the biggest tournament in the world in any sport? Please go troll somewhere else :)

the scottish and welsh anti-england remarks are getting quite embarrassing now tbf

bar one Welsh idiot. I don't think anybody from Scotland or Wales have been particularly anti-England in this thread. Not at all.

Why is it Anti-England to be discussing the performance of a football team and the over the top reaction to a performance by that football team?

I know Scotland didnt get to the finals, they didnt deserve to as they were shocking under Burley! A few of the players were going ballistic and I know some England fans who were going mad, just because they finished second in an awful group. I can understand the being happy and whatnot, but some people are just going too far.

Shocking for the second half of the US game and the Algeria game, but today was a different story altogether. We showed that we can actuallly play some decent football (albeit, against inferior opposition) and create chances, we were dangerous in attack and whilst I'd like to have seen us be a lot more clinical in front of goal, we never looked in any serious danger of conceding.
