skybluedave
Urgh, getting nervous now. I had been quietly confident but closer we get the less I feel that. Just please win England. Would be fantastic. Beating a top team in the knockout stage for the first time like ever. Making a Semi final for the first time in ages. Would all be awesome. Wouldn't even care if it resulted in a battering from Germany in the next round.
Andrew_
It's going to be an awful game. Just forget about the 120 minutes and go straight to penalties.
dafuge
Have a feeling this is going to be an awful game to watch, but still really excited about it.
skybluedave
Oh yeah. It will be dire. I don't think it will go to penalties though.
Razzler
Things are getting dangerously optimistic. I think we're capable of beating Italy and I think Italy are capable of beating us too. It's a proper competitive game and I hope we turn up and play well, that's all you can ask and then see what happens. We don't have anything to fear and they maybe think likewise. It's these small margins. Here we are in 1/4 finals otherwise known as 'got out of the group' and not far away is a semi final appearance and a sense of 'proper' achivement. Let's size the moment. It's better than playing an in form Spain or Germany so we have every reason to think we're in with a shout here. Keep our concentration, take our chances and don't get ahead of ourselves at any time. Come one!!
SeanNUFC
I don't think it will be a bad game to watch unless we lose like 3-0 or something. This Italian team isn't a normal/boring Italian team and i hope we can make a good go of it tonight.
JJ72
Can't remember the last time we beat a 'top' team in an important match - anyone? So, I'm not getting too hopeful, it'll probably be the usual bore draw and we get knocked out on pens.
davehanson
Argentina in Korea 2002 - Becks penalty is the last one I can think of. Will be a tight game, could go either way. Will probably be awful, but compulisve viewing.
skybluedave
We've beat Argentina, Germany and Holland in recent times but all in the group stages. Not sure if Spain 96 counts, maybe.
el sid
120 minutes of dross followed by a penalty shootout imo
CaptainPlanet
89 minutes of dross followed by an own goal by Terry. Media reaction to go nuts saying that Rio wouldn't have made that mistake.
foofighter23
An epic 5-3 win for england with milner scoring a brace and getting motm. just to be different.

Plumble
1-1 and we'll finally win a penalty shootout.

boots
Italy have eight players on yellows, England have five. Someone is missing the semi's either way.

brett.spurs
Hart; Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Cole; Milner, Parker, Gerrard, Young; Rooney, Welbeck Buffon; Abate, Barzagli, Bonucci, Balzaretti; Marchisio, Pirlo, De Rossi, Montolivo; Balotelli, Cassano
skybluedave
Be quite pleased if Montolivo is playing instead of Motta.
ddidiodion
Milner I'm hoping if I slag him off enough he'll have a blinder... chances are he'll just be crap again. One of my colleagues is Italian, I'd quite like this to go well so he can't swan around like he owns the place.
dafuge
I hope Young has a good game today, could make a huge difference to the team.
noikeee
Be quite pleased if Montolivo is playing instead of Motta. I didn't watch the Ireland-Italy game, but as frustrating as Montolivo is surely he's better at playing the trequartista role over Thiago Motta? I was very amused to read that Motta was played in that position.
cyclonus1010
Not the best sides for either nation but England will just nick it. Far more experience in Englands defence compared to Italy's. I'm Welsh by the way but c'mon England.
Leppard
Be quite pleased if Montolivo is playing instead of Motta. Both are pretty crap in the trequartista role, tbh.

He hasn't been great, but I'm more comfortable having Milner at right midfield than having both Walcott and Johnson on the right.
englandmanager
chiellini not playing is kind of a boost i still expect us to lose 2-1 though maybe 1-1 going into ET
georginho_juventusygr
Montolivo is better as a trequartista. Motta is a slug. Montolivo can't play in front of the defense. He's awful there.
Leppard
Bonucci is probably the weakest player in that Italian team, isn't he?
georginho_juventusygr
The issue is that Bonucci isn't a traditional central defender, but is a libero who reads the game and gives passes. When Juventus played 4-3-3, he was solid because he was helped by Chiellini on the left. When Juventus played 3-5-2, he was solid by his own ability. I think that Montolivo is the weakest, but he can prove me wrong today as a trequartista. Otherwise, he'll be officially rubbish.
dafuge
Looks like the BBC have finally managed to get a studio out there.
Astafjevs
And yet Montolivo says his best position is in front of the defence. And I don't buy that Bonucci is a libero thing. It's not like we're playing in an age of 3-5-2, where he's been brought up playing in the middle and now all of a sudden is being asked to do something else. He earned his move to Juve playing in a four man defence at Bari, he earned his first call up for Italy playing in a four man defence. He's not totally incapable. Jibby123
Nervous....nervous....and am going to have to sit through 90/120+ minutes of either pain or relief. I hate big games. I want to support Scotland or Rep of Ireland, they always seem to have fun watching their team. Please England. Please. Do it. So I can go through it all again against Germany on Thurs. CaptainPlanet
Yeah I'm starting to get a bit nervous now and I've tried to remain pretty non-plus about the whole thing but that little tingle of hope is getting me a bit giddy.
