Nerdier than world of warcraft.

Recommended Posts

I'm more geeky with FM than WoW definitely. But I'm not one of those 'hardcore-pwning-nubs-talking-in-ventrilo' kind of WoW players either.

With FM I do more outside reading (these forums for example), spend more time thinking how my Team can improve, and get more excited about in-game matters . :D

I contend that merely playing a specific game doesn't make you a nerd. Being a nerd makes you a nerd.

"Top" WoW players spend literally hours number crunching to come out with the theorectical maximum output for the smallest required input. Other players just don't care, and log on simply to socialise with friends around the world. Very different approaches to the same game.

Hell no...

FM doesn't require hours and hours of non-stop commitment and total dedication in order to be played.

Even the most obsessed tactical enthusiast never takes it to the level of obsession WoW die-hards can reach.

Oh, and let's not forget most of us play or have played real life football and watch real life football, so even the most "nerdy" use of FM has a link with reality.

Playing 5 hours to complete a quest can't be compared with a bit of tactical tweaking

Well I must admit, if CM/FM hadnt been invented I'd probably be sitting playing on a console rather than having a fairly steady PC. And luckily (or unluckily for our female manager) I now work with 2 blokes who cane FM as much as me, and am constantly going home with post-it notes with players names on n stuff like that.

Based on time spent playing since 1995, I'm a nerd am sure

Seriously, nothing wrong with being a nerd. I am married (again) to a former cheerleader, have a five-year-old daughter, make a decent wage and dated the prom queen in high school. What's wrong with being a nerd?

Nothing wrong with it. But you know, and that might apply to your case as well, that men become more interesting with age while women just grow older? So, you might now be a highly interesting nerd for women....

I just log on and play and still own the number crunches, my arena team are good though:D

I'm a true nerd btw in terms of FM :(

I'm a Prima donna. I think that makes me interesting. My wife seems to like it...

In fairness, most FM players I've met seem to be quite normal, regardless of commitment level.

You can spot a WoW geek a mile off. Literally see them coming.

:D Haha, Totally true!

I only know a couple people that play WoW, and trust me.. It is so obvious!

well my friend really got me into WoW during this past summer as i was bored and he was fed up with me complaining about there not being the new FM to play till november, so he introduced me to World of Warcraft, and i really enjoyed myself i thought it was a good game, i then bought all of the expansions to the game, and a further 2 months playing time. By the end of the 2 months i left my self thinking if it was worth what i have just done, paying £10 for expansion 1, £15 for 2, and £30 for the 3rd (not sure if they are the exact prices but they are close to it.) on top of that is another £18 to play for 2 months, and when thinking that it takes up alot of space on my laptop, i didnt think that it was worth me doing, so now i have fully uninstalled it but have all of the discs for the expansions, knowing that i have wasted my hard earned money on something, where i could just be playing FM instead.

to answer your question, no FM is not nerdier then wow, wow is an addictive game that is far to expensive to what it actually is. a better version of Runescape.

I'm a Human Warrior who at one stage dual-wielded Betrayers of Humanity in my Fury Spec as I lolpwned Naxxramas every night.

And then I realised... "Good GOD this is nerdy".

So, no, FM isn't as nerdy as WoW :p Similar though; you number crunch like mad on WoW to see if you have the Hit/Expertise Cap or whether you should stack Spell Power and Haste.

But the proof WoW is nerdier is in the Ventrillo/Teamspeak outbursts you can listen to on YouTube. ^^

I was watching the big question and there was a church of England vicar who looked like he was in his sixties. It came out in the conversation that he played World of Warcraft. I was quite surprised as he was not what I would call a nerd by a long way.

Personally I stopped playing WOW some months ago because I got fed up with the monthly subscription and all my playing time is taken up with FM, I enjoy that much better.

What gets me is when people scoff about others playing computer games but at the same time talk about Coronation Street as if it is real life.

I am aware of WoW's existence, but that's about it...

Thus all I can say is that FM fans, including me, tend to be somewhat nerdy ;)

Same here i know of WOW but that is about as far as it goes.

Proved by the fact that i understood about 1% of this quote.

I think all of us FM players are nerdy to some degree.

I play both.

WoW requires such an immense amount of time to get anywhere that it really can be daunting.

Whereas FM you can just jump in, play for an hour or so and come back later, and be able to play it at any pace you want to.

Both games are great though.

I'm such a nerd.

I have never played WOW, Halo or any other crap like that. Just reading the posts here about the game show me which is the nerdier!

'hardcore-pwning-nubs-talking-in-ventrilo'

'I just log on and play and still own the number crunches, my arena team are good though'

'I'm a Human Warrior who at one stage dual-wielded Betrayers of Humanity in my Fury Spec as I lolpwned Naxxramas every night'

'you number crunch like mad on WoW to see if you have the Hit/Expertise Cap or whether you should stack Spell Power and Haste'

I am pleased to say I don't understand what is being said there at all. I'm just not geeky enough :p

I finally quit WoW but i was definately a serious WoW nerd when i was playing it, FM is more casual as it's a solo game (which may make it more/less nerdy depending on opinion). So for me WoW is much more nerdy, but thats just the manner in which i played the 2 games.

It doesn't have to be a solo game in fairness. Getting some friends together for a LAN fm season is pure joy. Especially when you load every league and have one lucky person hit random to determine what league/division you're going to play in. :D:thup:

I'm an ex-wow player. I used to play wow for about 2 years in a 'server first' guild as a healer. But even within the top guild, some are way nerdy and some are actually pretty cool irl.

imo the game you play doesn't really define who you are.

Those who don't play wow just try to define the whole community as one, but even in the hardcore wow groups the personality difference and lifestyle difference among people can be HUGE. Some love all the 'lore' story stuff and get into all that fantasy thing, but some don't care about all those things and just enjoy playing with friends.

I think that's also similar in FM. Some people do weird fantasy press conference and treat all their staff/player members as real life people, while some just play it as a game.

The difference between a truly nerdy gamer and a normal gamer is treating the game like a part of their life or just treating it as only a game. It really doesn't matter what kind of game it is. It's how you play it.

Of course the term 'nerd' is quite relative and it can't be defined in an absolute way.

I can't be the only one having make-believe post-match press conferences in my shower. :o
