Are you sure? Only reason I ask is because I would combine More Direct passing with "Get Ball Forward" in FM13.

Those where the same thing in Fm13.

In fm13 'get ball forward' means directer passing and higher speed iirc so i guess you could also use play faster shout in fm14.

Get Ball Forward in fm13 instructed every player to through ball often. More Direct does not. This is my problem you see.

Don't think that it's possible to keep them from doing that at least sometimes. You should check FM13 for which back role has the least amount of crosses (only support or attacking) and use that, than maybe use 'play narrow' but I'm not sure about that.

Edit: if they miss all their crosses you might set their individual crossing to 'drill' or 'float'.

I know that in FM13 you could set it to cross rarely. But in FM14 you dont really have such an option so that's why i asked.

I've rarely seen drilled crosses in FM14 even when I specify it. Its always a looping one which is usually cleared.

Also, How much does it matter when you create an unorthodox formation of sorts whereas full backs are both in WB positions In a 4-4-2 let's say and they are both natural FBs rather than WBs. If the player has the stats for it will his lac of "stars" in the new given position matter as much?

Wouldn't know about that, i mostly ignore the stars if the ly have the right attributes.

Btw i meant focus the middle not play more narrow. If you focus playing through the centre the backs might be more inclined to pass to midfielders.

Hi all,

Rather than starting a new thread on this, I thought I'd gauge it in here first. I seem to be conceding a huge number of goals from corners. According to the Team Report page, I've conceded 6 and 7 respectively with corner assists (I'm managing Cardiff and Southampton in the same save), and we're only in January! I'm pretty sure that also doesn't take into account the number that are headed back across goal to a midget standing on the near post who just taps the ball in, as I think I'm probably closer to double figures for both sides, particularly Cardiff.

Currently, I'm on shorties marking far post and near, with main striker and CBs marking tall, DMs/FBs with good marking on short players and everyone else back apart from one quick player forward and someone on the edge. Match preparation is defending set pieces for Cardiff, yet it still happens practically every game - gutting when we're consistently losing by a goal.

Is anyone else finding this? If so, how do you stop it?

Thanks

I'm struggling to think which team instructions to give my team if I want them to play more direct. My normal tactics of high pressing and short passing usually works well but I want a back up, more direct one, in case my current tactics isn't working.

Obviously I'll use the More Direct Passing team instruction but which other ones work well with that?

thanks.

Unsure if this deserved it's appropriate thread, if so let me know.

In a system with a false 9 and two complete wingbacks, how do i get the best of Reus and Bale as Inside Forwards in AMR and AML position? Would you play them on their strong foot or invert them (Reus AML and Bale AMR). I've been trying the latter, and getting very good performances indeed, but it feels like something is missing, as they often give away the ball stupidly.

What are everyone's thoughts on this one?

Maybe they don't have (good enough) support from either the striker or the midfielders. If they can't pass back to the mc's when the striker can't be reached they might do something stupid.

Is your team fully used to the tactic by the way?

FM13- currently my team is wasting too many clear chances, assistant often complains, I have good coaches for offense, what else instead match preparing "attack movements, attack set pieces" and training during week "offence" can I do in settings?

Maybe they don't have a good composure or maybe you are using motivation in the wrong way. Try to make them relax (saying calmly there is no pressure on you tonight) or be more aggressive (say assertively you expect much) or even passionate (depending on their personalities) for example.

Nothing, it's partly because of this patch. Everyone has it to some extent.

As long as you create chances you should be fine, at least in the future. You could use work into box shout btw.

not yet fully used to it but getting there. I'm actually happy about exchange with striker/mc's (tried both false 9 and DLF/S and have it best with the first, also mc's are a combination of AP/A and DLP/S, covering well all spaces). What i don't like is the fact that whenever they have a chance of dribbling by the defence with their speed, 80% of the time they just get tackled out of possession. My question is if i play right foot right and vice-versa, could it solve this? or will it just end up filling the space i want my complete fullbacks to get into, and defy the spaces created by my false 9? i'm afraid they don't cut inside enough that way, but i will do some tests anyway.

Was going to start doing detailed posts about setting up tactics for my Canvey Island save but my laptop charger decided to spark and split rendering it useless. Will have to just write it up or think about it for now in my head.

My tactic is fluid with my team with everything except the actual tactical shape itself. How can I improve this quickly as It's hard to judge whether my tactic is working or not when my team don't really understand it properly.

Set match tactics training to: tactics only, and set the training to more match tactics training.

Question about the new tactical system, am I right in that the way the "shouts" work in FM14 they are part of the tactical set up that players need to get used to? I mean the way they work towards being fluid in different tactical aspects? Does this mean I should be more careful with using shouts during the matches (switching tempo, passing style etc.)?

Question about staff training roles.

If a staff member such as a goalkeeping coach or a fitness coach has a senior role, will his training effectiveness for the senior team be reduced if he is also training the U21 squad and the U18 squad?

What got me confused is all the U21 and U18 options for every role.

I dont have any hard evidence but I've always thought that if you use a particular set of shouts commonly then players get used to it, if you then throw in a combo of shouts you dont often use then it looks like the players are slightly uncomfortable with it. It's hard to tell as its fairly subjective from watching the ME so I may have imagined it.

Logically it makes sense that on top of your base tactical framework players would require some time and training to learn the augments to that system (i.e. the shouts you commonly plan on using).

I think I'm missing something obvious here with FM14. For player individual instructions, if I set the player instruction to "cross to target man", and don't have a striker with a target man role set, how can I specify which striker the crosses should be aimed at? The setting for who to use as a target man used to live under team instructions in FM13, and I'm sure it's still somewhere in the tactics settings, but I just can't find it.

There isn't one and it now works for who has the TM role.

Well, thanks for clearing that up: at least I know to stop looking for it :) I think my defensive forward is about to become a TM/S then. Not sure I can trust my players not to aim crosses at the dwarf AF/A, although I may try not giving the wide players crossing instructions and see how that goes.

Can somebody clear something up regarding 'Tight Marking' within the new tactical interface.

I'll write down some assumptions and if someone could explain if they're right or wrong, with relevant alterations, then that would be great.

- At the start of a new game marking is set to 'loose' Zonal by default for every outfield player, except for specialised roles such as Ball-Winning midfielder.

- Under Team Instructions, if you select Use Tighter Marking, your marking is changed to 'loose' Man, except for specialised roles such as Ball-Winning midfielder.

- If you then set individual Player Instructions to Mark Tighter, the marking is set to 'tight' Man/Zonal depending on the changes made above.

Not sure this is properly explained, so attempting to use theory from previous games – well, assumptions more than anything.

Thanks.

Todays stupid question: In game statistics you have shots, shots on target, off target. How come these dont add upp?

If a shot isnt on target it should by definition be off target no? How can I have more total shots then on/off target adds up to? Where did the other shots go?

Probably a really silly question but well... either I'm missing something or they define off target very strangely.

On target, off target and blocked shots should add up to the total amount of shots.

Fellas, is the "Play through defense" shout gone for good on FM14 Beta? Thanks.

I don't think I have seen an answer for this - Can anyone help? I used to use this with 'Pass to feet' against teams parking the bus against me. Can anyone offer any advice please? I believe it may be 'work ball into box' and 'retain possession'. Cheers :)

Well, it's probably ME related, but I want to know how can I make Rooney and RvP to play better for my ManU side. I'm top of the table by 9 points, my match record is like 17-1-2, but Rooney and RvP had scored about total 12 goals combined. I play 4-2-3-1 with Rooney being shadow striker and RvP deep-lying forward. I tried almost every combination, adv. playmaker, att. midfielder in the AMC position, and adv. forward, poacher and complete forward in lone striker position. But ffs, RvP even got 3,2 rating at the end of one game. Really don't know what to do. GK - gk defend, DR - full back support, DC's are both CD - defend, DL is CWB, 2 MC's are dlp-support and BWM - defend, and wingers are winger - attack on one side and inside forward on the other.

Has any info on the mechanics behind the new roles been available ?

E.g. the Enganche has , i believe, "run with ball" set to rarely . In-game-help mentions his difference from the Trequartista but not from the Advanced Playmaker. So, what is it?

Finding out about each one's default settings can help understand what differentiates every role from other similar ones, in a more literal manner than the descriptions provided

Enganche presumably has roaming "off" and wide play set to "normal" since he's supposed to stay in the hole, run from deep is probably "rarely" too, TTB "often" is likely, very high creative freedom, may have HUB. No idea on closing down or run with ball.

What would the main differences be between playing a trequarista and a false 9 in the striker slot?

Closing down is an obvious one.

The trequarista gets set as one of the playmakers, the F9 presumably doesn't. The F9 probably doesn't have as much creative freedom.

What other differences are there between the roles? And how can I expect play to change if I switch to a F9?

Having one issue. Asked in GQ, but maybe this is a good place too.

My team doesn't gain any familiarity with its tactics whatsoever :( Dunno what to do about it.

Started a new save with Newcastle on 14.1.3.

Created two tactics, set match training to tactics only, match training level to maximum (most left), general focus was fitness at first, now team cohesion.

Played 4 friendlies, but there was no improvement with tactic familiarity whatsoever.

I did after the first two matches exchange all first team and bench players (always create two team which take turns) and thought that might be it (though it shouldn't), after the third friendly I only exchanged 5 players, but no improvement either.

What's up? Am I missing something or is this a bug?

Has it improved at all since you posted?

It took me ages to get full tactical familiarity too.

Anyone?

Also, how important is it for inside forwards to be wrong footed? I'm really struggling to find affordable, left footed wide players that I like, so I'm probably going to have to play a right footed player at AMR as an inside forward.

No, I played two more friendlies and made less changes to the starting XI between them, but there is still NO progress. :(

Increasingly feel that there is a bug .

If it was a bug it would affect everyone. The fact myself and others are getting it all fluid suggest it isn't a bug.
