juve_curr
yives mak-car-boo ma kel-em-bay It's eve not yives. As a kid, I always wondered how to say 'Peter Ndlovu'. I heard people, including the man himself, say 'Under-love'. But I just never bought that. Especially as I'm sure I vaguely remember him saying even he wasn't sure how it was pronounced! I've heard it pronounced "un-luv". I don't know what's correct though. From the previous page, "Cillian" is very simple. The C is a K sounds not an S sound. So it's Kill-ee-an. Norville Rodgers
In Spanish, x = ch.So it's surprisingly easy. Yep, so that lad Xisco who is going to NUFC from depor should be referred to as "Chisco", if the commentators have done their homework. Mind you, over the years, commentators have disagreed on Solskjaer (Sol-shar, Solsk-shara), Cantona (hard and soft 'o') and Ndlovu (Nud-love, Underlove) to name but 3. ThunderZtorm
Gotta say, the one I struggle with, quite strangely perhaps is the German football team (and town) Aue. I groan every time they win promotion to the Bundesliga because I'm the kind of FM player who likes to do commentary out loud or read out full time scores or whatever and I just really struggle with that one - there just isn't enough substance there for me to get my teeth into! The word is over before I've managed to get more than half a sound out :o Aue's pronounced kinda like owe, only with a bit more distinct "a" sound in the start and a little more stress on the "e" sound in the end.
ThunderZtorm
I've actually always wondered how you pronouce Nacer Barazite.Oh!, and how the hell do you pronounce Per Weirauch?! (Danish youngster at Chelsea.) Nacer Barazite I'd say: na-ser ba-ra-sit Per Weirauch: Per's a difficult one since the "e" sound in his first name doesn't exist in English. Closest you can get is probably pair (but no "i" sound tho, and a little more "e" than "a") His last name would be: Vai - rau (au sounds like the "o" in how) and then, uhm, end with something that sounds like you're clearing your throat, it's a german ending. Sounds kinda like "gh" but a bit sharper
auberius
Right, time to help with the Welsh I think! The welsh letter LL is an unvoiced english L, so you move your tongue as for an english L, but instead of vibrating your voicebox you just breath out. With that sound in mind, it's LLan-GEV-knee LLan-sant-FRIED As for Cwmbran, welsh W is a vowel sound similar to an english oo, and the a is long, so it's Coom-BRAHN
