Guest
That's actually a bit interesting, in that it highlights the risk averse playstyle we have now. Shouldn't be terribly surprising that we make few mistakes, but also score few goals. Hopefully we will be more exciting next season, whether LVG stays or not. Mourinho will make the style wayyyyy more exciting. ?
themadsheep2001
Mourinho will make the style wayyyyy more exciting. He'll make it more exciting than LVG, we'll actually score a fair bit.
Roy Race 9
He'll make it more exciting than LVG, we'll actually score a fair bit. no doubt about that, sure this is our lowest return on the goals front since we went down:eek:

Harryseaess
Just shows once again that the papers know nothing. He supposedly signed for us last week didn't he? That's not true, we had been scouting him for a long time and were most definitely in for him. Transfers can change very quickly. It just shows Woodward's incompetence to get deals across the line. We really need to keep Woodward for the commercial stuff but then hire someone soley for dealing with transfers.

Pangaea
Well, with some of the biggest clubs in the world after him, why on earth would he sign for us when we may well not even get CL football next season, and are in a bit of a mess? From a player's perspective, Bayern would be a better option.

themadsheep2001
Sanchez deal makes it almost certain Jose isn't coming now see Hummels has signed for bayern tooGood on em getting it done early Not really, Deal went from 40m to a projected 80m Euros, and Bayern in a much better place than us. He probably just chose them over us, and who wouldn't?
Timmy Howard
Reports suggest Bayern completed the deal within two days. IF reports are true of our interest/closeness to a deal we should have sealed it earlier not letting there be a choice involved. Just looks like more naivety from Woodward to me

ddidiodion
Maybe he was just waiting to see if we got CL football before committing and then Bayern moved in? It's all well and good claiming incompetence as soon as someone else signs a player but we're in direct competition with other teams in better positions than us. Redshift
I don't think a lot of players will want to sign for us while LvG is in charge tbh.
Rio_V
Well, that sucks. He looks like he will be a star. And, I guess that ends any chance of signing Hummels...sigh. We are stuck in a tough spot till...Sunday, at least. If we don't have CL football, we aren't signing a lot of the players we want. If we still have LVG, we aren't signing a lot of the players we want. But all we really need is what Scholes said yesterday: CB, CF and perhaps a more creative CM. No idea where we are getting any of these mind. Having said that I do agree that Woodward needs to be replaced. He isn't good enough at this for this club. Back to the other side, please.
ddidiodion
Again incredibly harsh on Woodward without much justification. We're not going to compete with Bayern for players right now, sacking Woody won't change that. Either we're the only team offering that kind of money (the one area where we can compete) as we did with Martial, lower profile buys or we're offering money for cast-offs (Di Maria, Falcao, Schweinsteiger). Mourinho would maybe change that on reputation alone, but until we have CL sewn up we're not going to be attractive to many players.
Rio_V
Who has Woodward signed where there was major competition for the signature last year when we were in the CL and looking like a club players would want to play for? It took an 11th hour signing that was universally hailed as overspending when we got Martial. Yes, it worked out pretty well, but no one was looking to spend that kind of money on him. Maybe it is harsh, but he isn't impressing anyone with his ability.
Matthew Le God
Who has Woodward signed where there was major competition for the signature last year when we were in the CL and looking like a club players would want to play for? We rarely (if ever) know how much competition there is for a signing. Just because it isn't in the press, doesn't mean other clubs weren't interested. Maybe it is harsh, but he isn't impressing anyone with his ability. That's because there is so little information. We signed Martial when nobody else was willing to spend the money. It's ridiculous to (rightly) laugh at the 'waste of money' stuff about Martial and then not give credit to the man with the balls to spend the money in the first place. He signed Depay who had come off the back of a great season and appeared to have multiple interested parties, Schneiderlin who had plenty of interest sniffing around him and Italy's first choice rightback at the time. Oh and Schweinsteiger. We've not done badly in the transfer market and there hasn't been a wealth of talent in either the striking positions or central defenders in the last couple of windows. Smaldini
The lad chose Bayern, I don't see how that's Woodward's fault. It's disappointing but at least he's not joined a league rival. As for Hummels, I'm not bothered at all. We don't need anymore injury-prone defenders.

Timmy Howard
There's two stores coming out from 'sources' equally worrying. One is that LVG vetoed it which would suggest he's staying, the other is we could have had it sewn up but we dragged our heels.
ddidiodion
So either we're in advanced negotiations and the manager who agreed to sign Shaw and Herrera for a combined £60m as well as spending an ungodly amount of money on Martial vetoed it at the last minute or we're in advanced negotiations and the club that spent an ungodly amount of money on Martial and needs all the positive PR it can allows a young player to slip away to another club penny pinching. OR Our CL status/manager situation is in doubt, the player doesn't want to commit without certainty and in that time a club without any of that uncertainty and much better short/medium term prospects made a move and he took the unarguably better option. Who knows?

Bootador
Make up of the fee sounds similar to the Martial deal (if it's the 80m one) so wouldn't surprise me if you set up the deal before Bayern came and said "we'll pay what they're paying" which would explain why it got done so quick. sebsy
Agreed, would much rather have CBJ at LB tbh. Rojo not good enough, just another Buttner. Usually want United to win just for United to win, but would absolutely love it now to stick one on West Ham after attacking our bus. ****ing scum. Now their chairman on Sky saying we should make better travel arrangements What a ****ing moron. Nothing wrong with our travel arrangements. Would have been fine if your cretinous fans didn't intentionally block our bus in and then start smashing the black-out coverings on the windows by throwing bottles. Andrew_
The "forced" bit of his sentence counters everything you just said... Using the youngsters was forced on him. Everyone knows that surely?
