Nasri shouldn't do anything, she can post what she wants and worst case scenario he can sue her or something although I doubt that would be needed in this case.

no Bebe? :(

and what did Jozy Altidore do to get called up for USA.. he is terrible.

Altidore's scored 8 in his last 15 for the national team. He's only terrible when he plays in England.

As you expect from them. World class midfielders, okay strikers, and meh in defense. Would be a tough call but Mexico will go through at the expense of Croatia in Group A.

There's only one 'World Class' player in their squad.

There's only one 'World Class' player in their squad.

Modric is easily the standout player, but I'm pretty damn impressed with Rakitic every time I see him and today has been the case yet again for the past 45 minutes. Not sure on "world class" but that's surely gonna make for one hell of an exciting midfield. Perhaps Croatia are flying under the radar a bit, I don't really rate much their current generation like everyone else but midfield's the heart of a team.

Rakitić is among the best dead ball specialists in the world of football. Also his passing is ridiculously accurate. He is a late bloomer and it's hard to predict his limit but he's not really a world class player, though at this rate of improvement he might be (in a better club).

Kovačić will be a world class if he leaves Inter. Pretty safe to say.

Midfield is always the best part of our team, while even the 1998 generation had average defence. Srna, Ćorluka and Lovren are doing pretty well in their teams ATM and are among better performers in their leagues this season. Hell we have so many players in form in the last 2-3 months that I started to worry they'll burn out at the WC. Also we have unexperienced coach.

All in all we won't do much. Brazil is a clear favourite in our group, everyone else is equal.

Having him and Eduardo could make us more appealing to Brazilians :D

It's surprising he was even at preliminary list. He can't run much thus doesn't play often. He's one of them players that would be class if he played 30-40 years ago. He'll be among better players against Barcelona and then start breathing heavily in 51st minute and be subbed 5 minutes later. I think Kovač will cut him in the final list.

When's the deadline for the final 23s?

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=2014/m=5/news=the-world-cup-squads-on-fifa-com-2335441.html

The national associations then have until 2 June to trim their original 30-man squads down to a final group of 23 players, which must include three goalkeepers.

At 12:00 CET on 5 June FIFA.com will publish a list of all the players who will participate at the World Cup, including all their pertinent facts and figures, such as age, height, club, number of international caps and tally of international goals scored, as well as an extensive profile.

A player from the final squad can only be replaced up to 24 hours prior to his country’s first group game if he suffers a serious injury, which must be confirmed by FIFA’s Medical Committee. The replacement player does not have to be selected from the provisional 30-man party.

Tactical reasons - with Ronaldo completely free on one flank you'd want a winger that can defend on the other. That was what Paulo Bento strongly hinted at, and all the other wingers he brings (Nani, Vieirinha, Varela, even Rafa who will probably play more as a #10 midfielder) defend far better than Quaresma.

He's also a bit of a loose cannon (to put it mildly), and has not been a regular option for a very long time as he was stuck in Middle East for so long, only coming back to Porto in January - his form since has been good, but not 100% convincing with some inconsistency. Bento values his regular core group of players, which Quaresma is not part of. All the commentators appear to be focusing on these off-the-pitch reasons but to be honest I think the main issue was tactical.

5 midfielders and 8 attackers? I realize they're counting wide players as attackers, but that still seems a bit skewed.

Bento said Rafa is the 6th midfielder, though he is a very attacking minded player. I agree it's a bit attack-heavy.

What's Portugal's likely 11?

GK: Rui Patrício

RB: João Pereira

LB: Fábio Coentrão

CB: Pepe

CB: Bruno Alves

DM: Miguel Veloso or William Carvalho

CM: Raúl Meireles

CM: João Moutinho

LW: Ronaldo

RW: Nani I suppose, though could be Varela or even Vieirinha if fit

ST: Hélder Postiga if fit, then Hugo Almeida

Quaresma would only play if Ronaldo didn't anyway. Can't have the 2 at the same time because their egos would bump too much into each other even from opposite sides of the pitch.

I would swap R. Costa for Rolando, and both Almeidas for someone else.

Not injury related:

Steven Goff @SoccerInsider

All 30 players were in camp today. None of the 7 cuts were due to significant injury. #usmnt
