Fair enough. I genuinely wasn't sure.

I'm a massive fan of Tevez, he gave a lot to City in his time here (although not without some issues along the way :D) so I have always had a soft spot for him and probably always will have. I agree that if he's competing directly with Messi/Aguero then he shouldn't be near the side, because Aguero is amazing and Messi is Messi.

Interestingly - and because I don't follow international football on any continent besides Europe so I am pretty ignorant here - does this mean Messi and Aguero are unlikely to start together?

Think all of di María, Messi, Agüero and Higuaín will start.

This is Italy's rumored 30-man squad apparently:

Portieri - Buffon, Mirante, Perin, Sirigu.

Difensori - Abate, Astori, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Criscito, De Sciglio, Maggio, Paletta, Romulo.

Centrocampisti - Candreva, De Rossi, Marchisio, Montolivo, Parolo, Pirlo, Thiago Motta, Verratti, Giaccherini.

Attaccanti - Balotelli, Cassano, Cerci, Destro, Gilardino, Immobile, Insigne, Rossi.

El Shaarawy only played his first game of 2014 (and first since December) on Sunday. He isn't going to be fit enough - Prandelli can't gamble on both him and Giuseppe Rossi.

Aquilani was one of a few players that Prandelli lost faith in earlier this year. Players who he felt the shirt 'weighed too heavily' on. Prandelli speak for 'they're just not cut out for this level'.

Incidentally, that squad posted by PMLF has 31 players, not 30. The story doing the rounds is that Prandelli is undecided between Giaccherini and Giuseppe Rossi, which is pretty incredible if true.

Yes, 31 players indeed, the squad was posted here: http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/sky-anticipa-la-lista-i-30-pre-convocati-di-prandelli-554726

Ahh ok, does Aquilani get a look in these days?

He still made most of the squads up until this point, because he's doing well for Fiorentina. But we're pretty loaded in central midfield, and if you play like he did (he wasn't bad necessarily, he just didn't make an impact), then you're going to get cut.

He's competing against the PSG duo, De Rossi, Pirlo, Montolivo and Marchisio. Six midfielders taking up eight slots. Can't afford not to play well.

It's only natural Tevez isn't part of Argentina's squad.

Tevez and Messi don't go together. Tevez wants to be the central man, he's a ball hogger, which simply isn't possible if you have Messi in your team and Aguero as well. It's no coincidence they (and Messi as well) started playing much better after Tevez was dropped.

Spain can **** right off with that squad ffs :D Dunno if they'll win it but that's insanely strong. No idea who gets dropped from that.

Quite like that Switzerland squad as well. Will probably come second to France and end up facing Argentina, but could very well beat or draw with France and end up topping the group, at which point you'd back them to get through to the Quarters.

Bloody hell that spanish squad :D

Good luck getting that down to 23 Vicente..

Tbf, I think most of the seven who will be cut are pretty obvious (to me at least, though I haven't watched much La Liga, so maybe there's some surprises in there).

Moreno, Iturraspe, Torres, Negredo or Llorente will surely go.

Then one from Azpilicueta and Dani Carvajal.

Not sure on the other two though. Maybe Cazorla + 1 other.

Bloody Hell. No Isco, Arbeloa, Herrera or Monreal and it still looks like a strong bunch. Anyone that gets cut from THAT squad will be considered controversial, even Koke or Itturaspe. They could just send two teams and both would meet in the final.

No Illarramendi either. Insane depth. Is there anyone else particularly noticeable missing? Isco's probably the biggest one but he is only young and he hasn't played that much lately has he?

Soldado maybe, but again he's been bad this season.

Thought Ogbonna would get into it.

He was left out of both groups of players that performed the physical tests in April. Had little chance after that. I'm a little surprised, but he's paid the price for not playing enough.

Azpilecueta can play both flanks so i'd guess he'll be kept and one or two of the specialists will be cut so either Carvajal or Juanfran and Moreno would be my guess.

Pretty sure that's how it'll go. Not sure if Azpilicueta will start (the right back is tough to decide) but I'm sure he'll go because of his versatility.

Is De Gea over Diego Lopez a surprise?

Nah, not really. Was always going to be one or the other but think most expected de Gea.

Reina over Lopez is pretty iffy, though.

On ability yeah but Reina was always going to go because of his importance of the pitch. There's a bit of a divide between Diego López and Casillas at Real Madrid so I don't think it would have made much sense to take him, plus I don't even think he's been anywhere near as good as people say.

Dark horses for what? To win it? No chance, if that's what you mean.

Yeah. That is what I mean but I doubt it too but a lot of countries will know they pose a threat against anyone. Defence is the weak point. Look forward to seeing Aurier though.

Had them as dark horses in the previous world cups. But today their golden generation is getting kinda old.
