It might have made sense but when everyone is fit i think there are better ways to go, you just have to sacrfice playing two up top to give it a chance.

I can only remember one creative ball from the 3 midfielders and that was when wilshere stepped out of the DM and played that ball to Rooney. Delph was ok getting forward but i don't remember either him or Henderson playing a telling pass. And make no mistake about it we were forcing the DM yesterday, that was Wilshere.

The numbers in midfield was only in theory, Wilshere was still very exposed as the only guy that was deep. Look at the amount of times Sterling the apparent number 10 had to come deeper than both Henderson and Delph as they rarely pick the ball up in our final third it was left to Wilshere alone. If we played Henderson, Wilshere and Sterling centrally with actually wide forwards wide who are comfortable on the ball like Chamberlain and Lallana we could keep the ball better and not just lose it quickly which is what exposes us alot of the time.

And the DM issue goes a way in the diamond? It's a bigger issue in that formation Wilshere yesterday was the only one deep centrally most of the time, Henderson was playing RM in all but name yet didn't do much there . Delphs late challenges yesterday was a result of having to track back too late when the play was already behind him. We were just as exposed yesterday as we ever have been as the fullbacks especially Baines was pushing forward to create width. 4-2-3-1 might not solve the DM issue but it helps in other area's and atleast you have 2 centrally, at the world cup the biggest issue was starting with 3 centre forwards yet still having sterling outwide.

Which is why i said play you would need to play one striker, not hard to understand mate. Having to try and accommodate two or three strikers is the problem with this current team and was at the world cup. Having a DM is not a massive priority when you play the two in central midfield like it is in the diamond, it still allows sterling in the number 10 role and then you can still have players like Walcott, Lallana and Chamberlain outwide. There is a reason two upfront has gone by the waste side at the top level.

Why would you want to keep the diamond though? It's alot harder to make that work. We have pretty much the perfect players to make the 4-2-3-1 work you just have to not play 2 strikers and have one out of position.

I would like to see. Hart Chambers/Clyne Cahill Jones/Jagielka Baines Henderson Wilshere Walcott Sterling Lallana/Chamberlain Welbeck/Sturridge/Rooney I think that would get the best out of the players but you have to play only one of the strikers for it to really work.

I didn't see it, don't remember him going anything in defense or attack. Just kinda ran around on the right side with no impact.

Henderson got lost yesterday in that formation, don't remember him doing anything at all. Would have rather seen him sit and allow Wilshere to roam forward. Still think 4-2-3-1 is by far the best formation for the team but it would mean Hodgson having the balls to drop two of Welbeck/Sturridge/Rooney.

Only way the diamond is going to work is if they find a actual DM

The midfield 3 needs to be Henderson, Wilshere with Sterling infront of them plus two wide attackers and one CF. And only play one of Rooney or Sturridge.
