Something for the weekend

Recommended Posts

Newgen revamp – Newly generated players, or newgens as we call them, are now created using a new system that looks at player templates for different styles of player, as well as taking national traits into account, to ensure that the types of player in the game are constant throughout the life of your own saved game.

Wasn't this announced in a podcast too? Was fairly sure something about national traits had already been mentioned...

This was going to be announced earlier today, but I forgot in amongst a bunch of pain (have something wrong with my neck, which has lead to my right arm and shoulder going numb...)

Anyway, one that was mentioned on the podcast before with thanks to feature roulette, but now with more detail.

Match analysis improvements – lots of new options available on the match analysis chalkboard, with offsides, free kicks, corners, throw ins, clear cut chances, half chances all now available to analyse via the system, as well as the option to show match actions for all the players of the team at the same time, rather than having to look at them all separately. There is also a new view for average positions of players during the match and a heat map view showing where they've spent most time on the pitch.

Nice news that heat map.

Hopefully that means no more full-backs with poor dribbling and wingers showing up at brazilian clubs.

Great news. Will these new features for the match analysis allow for tracking attack runs that lead to goal, such as showing the last three passes that ends in the goal or all actions from the moment of possession until a goal is scored or shot attempted?

Miles you will put the portuguese 3rd division in the game???? Is the only thing missing for the game be perfect. Portugal is waiting :D

I doubt there will be more added leagues in FM11, but let's wait and see. :)

Is there any chance that there will be licensed English Premier league? please i am so sik of fake team logo and no pictures of players

I don't think so.

That would be really useful addition too.

Are you guys going to work on optimising the 3d engine? It's a joke at the moment the games i can run on High Detail - none of which include FM but do include some very demanding games like LOTRO, or the newly released SC2 (which isn't too demanding, but still looks very pretty) - yet I cannot get a smooth high detail image of stick men running around what looks like a Sensible Soccer pitch!

I'm not sure I like the regen nationalities thing announced in the podcast. It might be nice in the short term, but in 20 years, Brazil will probably have more specialist defenders as they look to evolve tactically, England will have evolved coaching-wise completely, Africans from the Sahel could have better diets and be stronger. It's nice short term, but nations don't stay still. Hungary don't produce world class, highly technical playmakers any more, just Zoltan Gera. Brazil have some good goalkeepers and are arguably stronger defensively (as individuals at least) than at any previous time in their history. The Netherlands have gone from Total Football to players of limited ability playing to their best at very specified roles, allowing a couple of individuals to blossom.

SCIAG, you have a brain ! I never knew ! (sorry buddy, couldn't resist it. ;) )

Seriously though, I agree with SCIAG here, the world changes, nailing newgens to a 'standard' template prevents nations from changing over time.

Also what if as, say, Swindon I decide to employ only Italian youth coaches, will players coming up through my youth system display 'English' traits or 'Italian' Traits or both ?

Plus it sounds as if this development flies directly in the face of the dynamic league reputations. What's the point in taking a team from ,say Poland, to European glory for however many seasons it takes for the league rep to edge up, I can attract better players but my youth system still only produces hard-working cloggers who fit the 'Polish' template (Note to all Polish readers, I am not saying that all Polish players are cloggers, it is merely a perhaps badly thought out example).

I don't know if I just have my head in the sand here and am just shouting "We Fear Change" just for the sake of it or not. I think there IS alot of potential in this idea, and there is no doubt newgens needed to improve, but it needs to be ensured that the improvement is fully worked out, games tested over many seasons, to make sure it works a) how you expect and b) how we, the punters, want.

Regarding newgens - I'm happy they're changing it. It needed to be changed - the longevity of the game has never been right since they took out the old recycling of of the existing database. The newgens have always had some fatal flaw that made long term games unenjoyable for me.

I hope this new idea fixes it, but I honestly wouldn't complain if they went back to the old Championship Manager system.

I have 2 ideas:

1st: It will be nice if we can se the director or chairmens profiles.

2nd: Sometimes in the real live, the board buy players not requested by the manager. So I think it will be cool if in FM 2011 sometimes we see a few "surprises" in the squad

As for the 1st one I'll just ask you, why? And as for the 2nd one I'll just say, please no. :(

Number 1 - Not sure if we need this as such, since we can already see the chairman or director's style so you can tell whether you have a patient chairman or not.

Number 2 - This was in a few versions back where your chairman would request you to buy a player or would go and buy a player for you usually for more money than your available transfer budget.

have you seen the monday feature???

http://footballmanager.com/index.php?p=news&item=4520

Monday's new feature is the Set Piece Creator – Much like last years tactics creator, we’ve now added a set piece creator to the game which allows you to set up your tactics at set pieces in a much more intuitive way.

i think that is time to change the title of the topic.

I recall sometimes being asked to buy a player that would raise the image of the club (that was a few versions ago I think) and offered more than the avilable transfer budget to do so. Seems to be less of that now, is SI/Sega frightened of potential liable of chairman who have a different view of themselves than their public perception ?

All I can say is, the difference from FM 10 to FM 11 is going to be sufficient to make it a major new game, not just a minor revamp. Excellent!

Oh, and Miles, you might as well make up a release date; everyone else is and why should you not be able to join the fun??? :D

(PS: did you celebrate a wee bit too hard over the English win Friday? Do you even recall HOW the neck got hurt?? ;) )

i'm with wakers on this

a great new feature miles, i just hope you've left enough time for intense testing

this game "sounds" amazing so far and i have no doubt i will still be slack jawed as you announce more, but seriously is it all gonna work!!!

if you guys at SI and Sega pull all this off, we will be looking at the best ever football management sim , i have no doubt about that.

roll on the demo!

Im looking forward to this set piece creator I must say.

Im hoping, actually, that it will not allow the freedom afforded to Championship Manager 2010 players as the set pieces you could create on there broke the game engine far too easily from what Ive seen on youtube!! Im hoping that this will be merely a graphical representation of the current set piece options within the game with perhaps a few extra options added.

And lets hope the corner bug is sorted this time around too! I'll be suprised (and dissapointed!) if thats still around TBH.

Can I just say, I am prepared to wait, even beyond Oct 29th, to get a properly tested, ground-breaking, blow your socks off, game.

If FM11 is as good as it's being talked up to be, if it's the type of thing like seeing footy in 3-d for the first time that just makes your jaw hit the floor, if it's a CM3 or Civilization 3 type great leap forward, then it's worth waiting for.

Miles, SI, Sega, you have set the bar pretty high for this one. Live up to it.

(Of course if it's just FM10 with a few twiddly bits on then I expect it on Oct 29th ! ;) )

It's not still the weekend, but here's another one, and one I like a lot.

Set Piece Creator – Much like Football Manager 2010’s Tactics Creator, we’ve now added a Set Piece Creator to the game which allows you to set up your set piece routines in a much more intuitive and user-friendly manner.

P.S. Seems Facebook beat me to it. Apologies, but I've had an unexpected hospital trip today...

I'm sincerely hoping this isn't anything like the CM one, you can't make a good omlette with a bad egg.

Good news, I hope you can specify who you want to take indirect and direct free kicks. For example I may want my striker taking direct shots on goal, but have him in the box for indirect free kicks.

That is something I was thinking about the whole summer. :D They should really split direct and indirect free-kicks.
