FM2010 announcement

Recommended Posts

Would take a long time :D

Only problem with going down more than 2/3 levels is there is no room on the CA/PA scale to fit players in. You'd have to play in leagues where the best player has a CA of 5! And of course every team would only have grey players unless someone managed to research thousands of obscure English players.

Ok maybe not the whole thing. But the major regionals would be good.

Gotta say i' m very impressed with the first list of "features" and i agree that what FM needed was Polish and not a drastic overhaul!. Was slightly concerned with rumors a few weeks back that FM10 would use the FM live (or very similar) tactics wizard as i must admit I' m not a huge fan of FM Live , however from looking at the new screen shots and reading the blog , it now seems that i can default back to the sliders if required (even though i will probably give the wizard a good go). I was / am still hoping for more news on (hopefully) changes to the training module and the ability to develop youth players, but on the whole looks very impressive keep up the good work! Re: the custom leagues etc, im a bit of a purist (so i wont be creating leagues etc myself) however i also LOVE LLM on FM 09 (currently managing Harrogate town) so if the community happen to create the real lower leagues then i would love to play as Oakham town or Rutland Rangers etc (my home town teams!).

Sorry for long post , I' m excited hehe

Martin

P.S.

Oh , sorry to hear you didn' t get your good nights sleep miles (Badass1982 on the twitter feed!)

The FM Live and FM10 tactics creator are pretty much identical, and in both games you can override any of the instructions the creator sets, or sidestep the new system completely and use the existing UI if prefer.

One small question/suggestion about the match analysis screenshots...

The colours for the type or shot . I.e Goal, Missed, Woodwork, Saved, all seem abit too close and might be difficult to differentiate the different shades of red at first glance without having to constantly look at the Key to decern the which shade of red means what.

I am very much liking this feature of seeing each individual players contributions and shots /passes in greater detail. Everything else looks fantastic also! Definately looking forward to the Demo!

Just wanted to say the new game looks fantastic. I love the fact that the main emphasis has been on polishing what is an absolutely brilliant but far from perfect FM09. Especially like the tactics wizard feature, should make playing the way I want to a lot simpler. (

I wouldn't focus too much on Miles use of the word 'polish'. The ability to immerse yourself in the game world through the news subscriptions, focus on implementing tactical ideas rather than figuring out settings, second generation of the match engine without the robotic arrowed movements and second generation of 3D will have a fundamental effect on the feel of the game.

Is there any chance of a less powerful version of FM2010 alongside the main game or at least to go back to a much simpler matchday experience?

If you want a simpler, but good, game in general - FM10 PSP is probably your best bet.

If it's just a PC issue, in FM09 you can untick something in Preferences if I remember correctly to give the less detailed matchday experience and you can choose to watch the games in 2D or commentary only.

I think one of the big successes for SI is how the end-user can customise the game to suit their own preferences to such a high degree.

Iand each legitimate user playing the game has averaged 240 hours of gameplay, a stat that shocked us as, well, 10 days of your life is a long time. In that time, you could watch every Man Utd game last season, still have time to watch every Barcelona and Inter match, and still have time left for the whole last series of Lost.

Miles, you actually were spying on us the whole time???? :-O

As someone who has bought and played every single FM/CM version (including the first ever FM (not SI) in the 80s and the CM spinoffs (Italia)) I must admit I am looking forward to this release as much as i have any other and these few snippets havent yet reduced my enthusiasm.

There were 3 main things I wanted to improve on, and I think they have all been covered:

1) Lower than BSN/BSS....as a LLM lover the idea of being able to add the feeder leagues is a dream come true for me (via the new editor). I may have to wait for someone with a bit more time to upload a new database...but just having the option is a source of much childish excitement.

2) NEWS!!! This has gone up and down over the last few releases and the current situation is not very good. Splitting the news was an understandable decision but one that has ultimately removed a huge amount of 'depth' from the game. I may be managing Basingstoke in the BSS, but I would still like to know who wins each league, and most importantly ALL the manager changes and world class signings. At the moment, as you progress up the league, you start losing contact.....you dont even get the Premier manager changes when you are in the Premier League!

3) Crowds....ok, a bit cosmetic I agree, but when you are trying to bring a lower league club up, being able to see on match day crowd increases etc would be a fantastic addition. Think playing in front of 900 most matches and then getting a plum home draw against a higher league team and seeing your tiny stadium full to the rafters would be great. (This was something that made Football Director 2 on the SAM Coupe the best management game of its time!) :)

Thank you SI for preventing me 'growing up' for another year. My wife will mock me and hate you still and my kids will still think that playing FM is what daddy does when 'working from home'.

I must be the only person in his thirties who has 'enjoyed' having glandular fever over the past 6 weeks. A month and a half of being able to do nothing but lie down and play FM has been great.

Great work guys, great work

FM08 came out in my final year, got some long games in there and came out with a high 2:1 so its do-able!

Nice to see someone with his priorities right!! :-) Well done mate!

Will the press conference and news side of the game be improved?

I personally think you can never have too much news detail, because currently after a few seasons playing the game, you become familiarized with all the news articles and it loses it's edge a bit. The media aspect is obviously a huge part of the game, as that creates the sense of realism and really submerges you into a virtual world of a football manager.

It would be great if eventually the game had an endless amount of media articles and press conference responses so the game is fresh and enjoyable for a longer time.

I agree with FM09 being the best FM game so far. Initially I was early in writing the game off as a failure, but in the last few months I've resumed my season and I'm addicted to it again.

Thanks :)

I'm impressed with what I've heard so far. It seems that SI have listened to what the community has said with a number of new features such as being able to choose what news you get, the better explained tactical instructions, and the new league editor, which sounds a fantastic idea. Does American Samoa have a 2nd Division? :D

FM2009 is a fantastic game which I'm still enjoying as much as ever, but I'm optimisic FM2010 will be even better.

It does if you want it to ;)

I fully endorse your comments :thup:

This previews look impressive. I like the new tab system, similar to the new internet explorer. As someone who is useless at tactis and does not have time to read the forum documenttion on tatics, I am very happy with the new tactics wizard.

One question with the league creator, it has been said that you can't create new leagues across nations ie the Belgian/Dutch example given earlier, does this mean that I can't create a Euro Super League which the G12 Euro clubs threaten every so often.

The Tactics Creator sounds impressive, the News Centre as well.

One thing that I'd like to see overhauled, is the training setup. I find it a pain in its current state and would love it if they made it so the coaches you hire automatically set the training regimes in whatever field they specialise in.

Depending on how good they are, the better your players train and improve or vice versa. This could lead to other teams trying to poach your coaching staff more often though!:)

hmm it looks good but doesnt look like FM if you ask me.

it feels like they've focused too much on making accesible for new players without keeping it as full on as i prefer it.

nevertheless, i'm sure it will be an amazing game once you get into it.

Cab I ask, say you create a league, does this mean you will have to swap it out with another to make it playable? Or does this mean that in theory you could have several hundred additional leagues?

You can now add in several hundred additional leagues, you don't need to remove a current league to use a new one.

How will the promotion system be added? If we add for instance the Spanish Third Division, will we be able to edit how promotion is achieved, or will it be configured with some standard way (playoffs, positions, etc)

Just one more thing. Say for instance I make the Tunisian league playable. Now I know that IRL the managers there have regions where they do there player shopping, for instance, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali, Chad, Nigeria etc..

How is stuff like this accounted for (if at all)? Is it likely the case that if I make Tunisia active, I'll start seeing Norweigens, French players migrating there? Or is there something which gives a bias to certain regions?

I'm pretty sure something like this is accounted for in the current playable leagues, but what about the ones I make active?

You can edit the amount of teams promoted/relegated from leagues in the editor, you can set play-off teams/spots.

First of all - I like the direction the game has gone (in two versions we've had a 3D match engine added, and now we can look forward to a hopefully much more approachable tactical setup) and I certainly like the fact that the 'off-the-field' issues with QA and testing have been addressed.

BUT - I barely played FM09 and only ran FM08 once, and all because of one reason: access to the patches for download is diabolical if you don't want to install Steam or BitTorrent (and as I use a mobile internet dongle for access to the internet I have no desire to install either of these bandwidth-hogs on my PC). You say that patch 3 of FM09 was the best version - I'm sure it was pretty good (seeing that recently most people spent their time arguing about the proposed tactics module on here rather than the game) but if I wanted to download it I had no choice but to use unofficial mirrors or Rapidshare - these are deeply unsatisfactory methods for a company to be using.

You now have the full backing of SEGA behind you: surely between yourselves and SEGA you can reach a more professional solution than the current status quo?

Regardless, I'm looking forward to my freshly polished FM10 more than I thought I would be, and that can only be a good thing.

The last time SEGA provided bandwidth, we used up their total allocation for the year in less than 2 days. It's expensive stuff, bandwidth.

There were unofficial mirrors within half an hour of the patch going live, although I don't personally understand your aversion to STEAM or BitTorrent. Each to their own I guess.

all is looking good and i carnt wait but is there any chance of managing just a reserve or youth team to build up reputation just like brendan rodgers at reading sorry if this has been answerd

Nope.

Has anything been done to improve the 3D animations or have new ones just been added?

Yes, improvements and new ones.

Is there any chance of a less powerful version of FM2010 alongside the main game or at least to go back to a much simpler matchday experience?

You can turn off match flow, and watch in 2d or highlights, if you prefer.

Brilliant news about the game today..

One question though; If i make my own db, will i be able to add league packs by others without have to use another db than mine? Thanks!

Yes, as long as they haven't edited the same players as you.

Miles, you actually were spying on us the whole time???? :-O

That stat is from the people who registered the game via STEAM, and play the game with STEAM enabled (which is a very decent percentage of users, and a WAY higher sample than most MORI polls).

Oh, and another plea - I won't be answering questions about features that aren't already announced, so if it isn't on the announcement, please be patient and wait for all the announcements to finish. Although that will then answer the question on whether something is in the game or not anyway :)

First impression: Damn, another version I cannot leave out. Every year I plan to stick to my game for longer because it's great just to always be convinced that I NEED to have the next one later on.

I'm very impressed especially by the customization of the news you get. I'm sure I'm not the only one who suggested it but clearly I feel that it was my very suggestion which was picked up by you ;) And that in an area which I indeed regard to be crucial for the feeling of immersion.

Also the analysis might be just what nerdy me will use extensively :)

Thanks!

Cant be bothered reading all the way through this thread to see if anybody has asked this question. So I will ask it anyway.

Have SI tried to get rights from the Premier League to be able to use the Premiership teams clubs crests? I find that as big & as popular as this game is without you boasting about the fact. I feel that you should now be in a posistion to negotiate with the F.A. now to get use of the club badges.

Yes i know I can download them but unlike me there will be first time buyers of the game out there & it does make the game look a bit cheap when all thats there to represent the Prem side is a Knights from the round table shield.

Good luck with the game & I hope you have the crest issue sorted if not now but at least by the time Super Leeds United are back in the Prem.

Miles, is there any way you can go back in time and release this game in 1999 when I had time to play it properly? Some great features, particularly the competitions editor, in there. Typical that I chose this year to stop researching and forego my free copy. :( 8 years service worth one last freebie? :D

Not sure of this can be answered or not, but I'm interested in the three feeder leagues to the BSN/S.

Do all the league rules already exist in the database, including the feeder leagues to these three? Would it just be a case of using the editor to 'add' these leagues to the existing ones or would there be more to edit? Could it be done using something similar to a 'retain players' file?

That's good news  - How about Cup Competitions - if I, as mentioned, add the Sussex County League in, will teams compete in the FA Cup?, and can I the specific local (Sussex Senior, John O'Hara and RUR Cups) - and the FA Vase?

Most teams below BSS/BSN are already on obviously, the ame seems to know which leagues they are in so i imagine its just a matter of 'switching them on'

however, most teams below BSS/BSN don't have many (if any) real players, i think thats where editting will need to take place which i dont reallyl ike the sound of as i dont trust third party involvement on my game

Well, it's sound very promising, as always.

Adding new leagues is the NEW BIG feature for me so far. So many people are asking that since ages ago. That's a wonderful news and I guess hundred of Fantasy leagues and db will be around for FM 2010.

The tactics creator sounds also impressive.

I'm the same, I like to play the game 'as it is'. Saying that though, I use a retain players file so the game loads the players in the teams below the BSN/S. Those teams seem to have full squads of researched real players, not sure about the leagues below that though.

EA have the exclusive license for a few years yet. It's not up for renewal each year.

Unfortunately, due to spending so much time on the games this year, I haven't been working much on my time machine so no, that's not possible. Sorry.

Will it be compatible with Windows 7? It is due for release this October or November...

That is the aim.

The league/division editing feature is also among the most exciting news for me, but really I think it will stand or fall based on the customisability of the league editor.

Not just being able to tinker with promotion/playoff/relegation spaces, but also all the rules that affect other leagues in the game. Match day bench size/subs alllowed... transfer rules... All sorts of stuff like that.

Rest assured that when the full game comes out, I'm going straight into the editor to create a Vatican League. :p

Had a proper look at some of the screenshots and the Match Analysis interests me the most. Theres a LOT of information presented, but my worry is that in it's present form there won't be any helpful guide/tip in game on how to react on the information that you have available to you.

An example of the passes a player made during the match and whether they were successfull, as evidenced by this screenshot, would provide some valuable information to some, but merely bombard others with information that they can't act on.

The same could be said for shots attempted by a player. If he's missing a lot of his shots, it would be very beneficial for some Assistant Manager advice to followup on the Match Analysis, i.e. i can see he's missing a lot of long-shots or long-range passes but how would i act on that? Perhaps the Assistant Manager could come in and give advice to those who need it?

how about the finance side of the equation. Forget the spanish 3rd division for a monent and imagine a new league. Will i be able to add/edit tv-licensing deals?

Will i Be able to edit the financial side of my favorite existing league in the game. If not will the financial side of the game atleast be dynamic enough that new tv-deals (and such, sponsorship deals and all other stuff that brings money to leages these days) can show up over time.

The lack of development on the league level is one of my gripes because i love playing longer games. And if i invest 30-40 years into a leage i want it to be able to develop into a better league if i'm bringing more money into it. Lets say that i'm in a lower standing league. In my case i tend to play in Sweden. If i bring a swedish club to europe season after season i'll make that club alot money and my team will improve with my finances most likely. This would eventually trickle down to other clubs in the league because i would probably spend money on buying players from other players in the league. The other teams in the league would probably develop due to having a stronger club in the mix. It wouldn't change over night but if i kept it up and eventually other clubs made a habit of making it to the european level cups also the reputation of the league would improve and i'm sure the money flowing from tv/and sponsorship deals would increase.

I've played in earlier versions of FM where i would have a successfull club in a nation like Sweden and the other clubs would improve but the money in the league wouldn't really develop. Any news on this?!
