Liverpool Thread 2012/13

If we are going to go on about players that "fit the system" then Suso and Pacheco both need to be around the squad this year. There's room for both to kick on and both are already adept at the type of football BR wants to play and they are both going to qualify as homegrown players.

Susos contracts up soon i think and Dani's now 21 not using them and losing them is a bigger gamble than throwing them in and them failing.

Sterling and Ibe probably both need a year and two or three respectively but its kind of nice to see almost old fashioned wingers that want to take on fullbacks on the outside.

The rest of the youth players on show pretty much have no chance of making it to the level we require.

Meh, with random Chinese clubs paying £20m a year wages for players I wouldn't rule out foreign clubs being interested.

I guess only time will tell if anyone is willing to pay it, I'm sure we'll find out soon. I would imagine we would probably get (and take) £18m for him.

They only pay that for established players as far as I see. Carroll is far from Anelka level never mind Drogba even in their advanced ages.

What about Robinson?

really enjoyed yesterdays game, especially second half. good to see aqua strutting his stuff again, as much as i don't rate him nearly has highly as some in here, i hope we can persuade him to stay as we realistically won't get anyone as good coming in so may aswell save some money and play him.

more excited by suso, pacheco and sterling than i am about downing, cole or bellamy playing out wide next season. shame it won't happen though.

I still have doubts that Pacheco is quite going to make it with us. He's at a similar level to Suso and Sterling and they both have a few years in hand on him. Its unfortunate for him, he's been desperate for games for a couple of seasons yet hasn't got them when needed.

Copied this from another forum

Credit to Anfield Index who I saw this from on Twitter, this guy is the best for Liverpool related stats.

So, only a friendly but:

Last season we averaged below 495 passes per game, last night we attempted 700+ completing 91%

Carragher didn't hoof the ball once

The goalkeepers only kicked it long twice

Jay Spearing completed 72 passes in his best game last season, he was on course to beat that easily yesterday

We had 7+ players with 90% passing completion

For a first run out, that is very impressive for me.

Cheers, have looked at the link he used. Lots of interesting info. Will post this analysis here too:

Passes attempted

1. Spearing 49

2. Shelvey 44

3. Adam 41

4. Suso 36

5. Aquilani 34

6. Lucas 18

7. Adorjan 15

Pass completion

1. Adorjan 100%

2. Aquilani 97%

3.= Spearing & Lucas 94%

5. Shelvey 91%

6. Suso 86%

7. Adam 80%

Caught in possession and lost the ball

1. Shelvey & Adorjan & Lucas 3

4.Spearing & Aquilani 4

6. Suso 7

7. Adam 9

official release from porto quotes the price at 30m euro which at that time was about 25.6m

http://www.fcporto.pt/IncFCP/pdf/Investor_Relations/FactosRelevantes/VendaAnderson2junho07.pdf

It was about £20 ish million back then. Either way, overpriced for that pile of fat in hindsight.

That. Was about 20 not 25. TBT considering how well/not well he's done, we overpaid by about double. That's factoring in the much trotted out thing about him still having potential.

thought adam was fine yesterday and would expect him to be quite a good squad player for us in a more solid midfield 3 where he doesn't have to bomb up and down the pitch as much. i'd be happy for him to go elsewhere though if we can get a good deal.

BR likes his players to press a lot especially high up the pitch and regain the ball back within 7 seconds. Adam, Alberto and Cole don't fit in that category. The 3 players are not the pass and move into space players BR wants either and Adam def needs more than 2 touches before he passes the ball.

I'm pretty damn sure Aquilani does pass and move pretty well

Doesn't press the opposition and work hard to get the ball back though which is why I put him alongside the other 2. I don't understand why some LFC fans go overboard about him. Alberto has played in Italy the past 2 seasons and nobody there wants to buy him for a cut price.

Owen has asked on twitter for people to ask him a question about anything and he will answer, he even has his own app. Here are some questions which made me smile

#askMOwen you come across as a bit of a joker, and an all round fun guy. Who had the best banter in the medical room?

#askMOwen Which injury do you love the most?

Do you feel a great affinity with Bradley Wiggins, who has also won a championship while sitting down? #askMOwen"

#askMOwen Is it true that when you take Viagra you grow taller?

#askMOwen have you been injured in an accident that wasn't your fault?

Who is the best player you've ever sat next to? #askMOwen

How much do you bench #askMOwen

I thought they were pretty good anyway :D

watch us spend £10m on dempsey and man u £12m on dembele.... can just see it. £15m on allen when cabaye cost what, £6m?? and is far and away better.

i know im getting ahead of myself but im just pissed off at seeing all these top players linked with other clubs while we seem to be just consolidating our 8th place in the prem  by buying average.

I enjoyed the friendly alot more then I thought I would. Being so close to the field. Agger came over to my section and signed some autographes. I shook his hand and told him he was out standing at the euros and couldnt wait to see him play this season. Put a big smile on his face, he seemed to appreciate that.

Tiki-Taka was apperent from kick off. It was nice to see. It seemed to confuse some folks that were sitting around me. They were ranting to themselves wondering why liverpool kept passing the ball back to the defenders. All in all I enjoyed my Saturday watching my pride and joy kick the ball around. Sitting so close to the bench. Seeing Branden and the other lads about 5 yards away was quite the experiance. Makes me wish I lived in liverpool so I could goto every game! And experiance the Anfield atmosphere.. One day.. one day..

Cabaye had a minimum fee clause in his contract, which was in his contract before he won the league and broke into the national side so it’s not like he was some unknown bargain.

Having said that I do think you could broaden your horizons a bit and look at leagues which are a bit similar to England like the French and German leagues. I keep hearing good things about Capoue and it looks like Arsneal might be cooling their interest in M’Vila, so they’re worth taking a look at.

Liverpool can today confirm Toni Silva has completed a transfer to Barnsley, subject to confirmation from the relevant footballing bodies.

The 18-year-old midfielder joined Anfield from Benfica in the summer of 2009 and spent the latter part of the 2011-12 campaign on loan at League Two outfit Northampton Town.

Everyone at LFC would like to wish Toni all the very best for the future.

haven't watched the kids much lately so no idea if he was good enough to make it.

No I didnt think so. He looked pretty good in the reserves but he didnt have anything that was considered good enough to be in our first team

He was a decent prospect, but not sure if he was top drawer. When you see the attacking talent coming through the youths at the moment with the likes of Ibe, Sinclair and Peterson then its no wonder Silva got moved on.
