QUEUES to see the Queen lying in state could last 12 hours and stretch for three miles.

The Whitehall chiefs in charge of logistics for the historic five-night vigil had originally estimated that 40,000 people a day would turn up.

However, they now believe the number will be far, far higher and that many people will have to queue through the night.

They estimate numbers could far exceed the 200,000 who paid their respects to the Queen Mother in 2002.

And they say it could be closer to the million mourners who filed past Pope John Paul II when he lay in state in Rome in 2005.

The route will be lined with extra portable loos and water stations to ensure the public are catered for on their way towards central London’s Westminster Hall from Wednesday.

Mourners will pass through airport-style security and only small bags are permitted.

Medics at nearby Guy’s and St Thomas’s hospitals are on standby in case those in the queue fall ill.

Planners, who have been following the Operation London Bridge protocol, have identified a park next to Tower Bridge as the starting point for the queue.

It will then move the length of the South Bank of the Thames, passing London Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge, the Globe Theatre, Tate Modern and the London Eye.

Anyone with luggage will have to stop on the route and leave it in a park by Lambeth Palace before rejoining the queue.

Mourners will cross Lambeth Bridge before turning back to enter Westminster Hall.

That will be open 24 hours a day for mourners to pass by the late monarch’s coffin, with insiders revealing people may have to wait up to 12 hours from start to finish.

Abdication aside, the crowning of a new monarch will always occur when there is the death of the old one - to suggest no one should be able to protest against the beginning of a new reign because it is somehow be inconsiderate to the mourning of the last one is a spurious argument at best

They queued for more than 20 hours for the Queen Mother, if they are expecting five times as many people this time, then it'll be a dam sight longer than 12 hours

if we got rid of the monarchy the crown estate would be owned by the state, not the windsors, so that's really neither here nor there

You're forgetting the Tories would sell half of it off to their mates in Year 1, rather than protecting the revenue stream in future years.

At least the monarchy can be trusted with it.

Queen lookalike who looks nothing like the Queen now getting publicity because her appearances will now be tributes.

In other news I'd like to let everyone know that I'm now working as a Cristiano Ronaldo lookalike.

Today is not the day of the funeral, though?

We are in a period of mourning as a Country. It's not the right time, Sure they should present a better case in the future but travelling all the way there with crappy slogans like "Not my King" "**** the monarchy"  is going to antagonise people during this time, It doesn't mean they should be arrested for that.

Arsenal v PSV postponed. So much for the midweek games being able to happen as normal.

Surely makes sense just to reverse the group stage fixtures and play in Eindhoven this week. Literally no space to find a free midweek slot before the WC otherwise.

If that’s a policing issue (which I assume it is) because of the numbers of Dutch fans then Saturday and Sundays games in London are done too

You could argue that it's actually a great time to peacefully protest. If that right starts being taken away, we are in very dangerous waters.

Not convinced these count as peaceful protests.

So when is the right time?

Tomorrow, the day after, next week, next month?

When!

Yep, this is the bit we need to know about. If he's then kicked off at the people around

He was most probably demonstrating his right to freedom of speech by shouting at those telling him to ''shut up you tit'', this then escalated in him being removed for his own safety and the police mentioning a section 5. And letting him go.

If some football fans started giving verbals within the laws towards home fans who were growing in number, then the Police would stick them in the van move out of the area to the nearest train station and tell them to go home or behave.

This far easier than going through the rigmarole of paperwork and solicitors when they've got better things to do and at the same time they've saved the NHS a few quid in stitching him up.

Of course, letting it go and not making a big deal out of it wouldn't see his twitter trend improve.

He might not realise behind his own self-importance, but they've done him a favour

I'm definitely not one to defend the police, for so, so many reasons. But I do wonder how much of the bold might have occurred.

There was similar in Edinburgh, and the crowd were quite polite in replying, in the end that small group of protestors actually calmed down

It's not even like there wouldn't be fans of away clubs that are from or live in London, and also the same for London clubs, friend of mine has a season ticket at Spurs and travels from Manchester for each game, for example.

Avanti have been doing their best to put off fans or anyone travelling on weekends along its route by not selling train tickets until four days prior to travel, this is during a normal weekend, God knows how they're gonna handle this.

No wonder the sent her body by plane, even if you get all the privilege and priority of your train, they still didn't have enough faith that the British Rail Network wouldn't balls it up Infront of all those cameras

Though imagine if theyd chained themselves to all the gates so the Queen's body couldnt actually get in.

Or thrown themselves themselves in front of the Kings Horse, as Emily Davison did.

(just playing devils advocate)

it's pretty difficult to protest in any fashion without antagonising someone

even if you were just there with perfectly inoffensive placards and were entirely peaceful, someone is going to get upset - mainly because you dont share their views. That's just how people are, it would be boring if we were all the same
