Though of the three Alcacer is the only one I'm surprised about. Amazed that Del Bosque actually saw the sense in calling up Saul, very unlike him. Bruno can comfortably play that role, plus San Jose had developed into a decent DM. They'll miss him more in the fact they their CB's outside of the starters are awful. Not sure why you're surprised about the other two. Torres had a fair chance of making it but Diego Costa has been atrocious whenever he's played for Spain. As G-Man said, Alcácer is the surprise.
