Rob1981
Group A: Egypt v Uruguay, KO 13:00BST Venue: Central Stadium, Yekaterinburg Previous World Cup meetings: None The Background: Clear favourites to win Group A, the Uruguayans have re-emerged in recent years as one of South America's most potent threats. An infamous victory over Ghana in 2010 took them all the way to the semi finals, and four years ago they defeated both England and Italy on their way to the knockout stage. Squad looks like good mix of youth and experience: the likes of Diego Godin, Luis Suarez and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera head into their third World Cup, while Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez (23) and Juventus's Rodrigo Bentancur (20) are among the hottest young footballers in Europe. Only half of Egypt's squad were born when they last played at a World Cup 28 years ago, and their all-time tournament record reads Played 4, Won 0. But they head into Russia 2018 with a genuine global superstar in Mo Salah and were runners-up in the African Nations last year. Egypt were well fancied to finish second in the group, but Russia's surprise 5-0 win yesterday might just have turned the pressure up a notch. Russia might not be as bad as everyone thought, and goal difference is the first separator in the group rather than head to head record. Factoids: Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadry could become the World Cup's oldest ever player at the age of 45. Luis Suarez is already Uruguay's all-time top goalscorer, but needs three more goals to equal Oscar Miguez's record of eight World Cup goals for Uruguay in the 1950s. Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez was previously in charge of his country for their 1990, 2010 and 2014 campaigns - he becomes one of only a handful of men to take the same team to four different tournaments. The last man to score against Egypt at a World Cup was Mark Wright, England's unlikely hero in the final group game at Italia 90. Egypt were the first African team to play at a World Cup in 1934: the format was a straight knockout that year (for the only time in WC history) so they travelled across to Italy and played just one game. They also share an obscure record with Norway for the longest gap between two World Cup Finals appearances: Egypt 1934 - 1990 (56 years); Norway 1938 - 1994 (56 years). Bliss Seeker
Great thread etiquette Rob. Not like that useless fool who did the Morocco vs Iran thread. I hope they rest Salah and use a fitter him for the very beatable following games.

Ahmed Hassan (Egypt) - 184 2. Mohamed Al-Deayea (Saudi Arabia) - 178 3. Claudio Suarez (Mexico) - 177 4. Gianluigi Buffon (Italy) - 176 5. Hossam Hassan (Egypt) - 169 6. Ivan Hurtado (Ecuador) - 168 7. Vitalijs Astafjevs (Latvia) - 167 7. Iker Casillas (Spain) - 167 9. Cobi Jones (USA) - 164 10. Bader Al-Mutawa (Kuwait) - 162 11. Adnan At-Talyani (UAE) - 16112. ESSAM EL-HADARY (EGYPT) - 158 So El-Hadary can break into the all-time top 10 in the world if Egypt get through the group, but would still only be third highest for his country

Baptista_8
CR7 will definitely play until he breaks it. One of the records to break he's got pinned up on his bedroom wall.

I definitely think a few years from now when he's no longer useful, we're gonna have to lock him down somewhere so he doesn't make it to the pitch. Rob1981
Credit where it’s due. BBC are twenty minutes in, they’ve actually talked about Uruguay and Egypt and now they’ve got a lad in a mosque talking about Ramadan and asking a doctor how fasting impacts the fitness. Not a sniff of Gabby Logan pointlessly prowling around outside the England camp.

GunmaN1905
Well, Torreira was playing great for Sampdoria this season and just got transferred to Arsenal for 30mil€. While on the other hand Bentacur is the fifth or so option in Juventus midfield and didn't start a single important game.
