canvey!!
Writer’s Notes: You’ve already read this one too. Déjà vu anyone? Ridleys's update will arrive soon after. Update 2 – canvey!! Years: 0, Months: 2, Days: 55 Two months have passed in the competition and 100% of the managerial fleet remain intact. Despite the commencement of the competitive season, managers like Robert Boyle at Blackburn, James Ridley at Siena and Andy Morton at Sporting are still considered ‘Stable’, despite being bottom of their respective leagues. European action has also taken place, with Champions League games for Arsenal and Liverpool. Tom Smith’s Arsenal made a solid start to their 2008-09 European campaign, beating Vitória Guimarães 5-1 on aggregate, a 3-0 win at the Emirates slightly marred by conceding a goal at Estádio D. Afonso Henriques. Their manager hasn’t been very active in the transfer window as it ground itself virtually shut yesterday, with only a loan release to Crystal Palace. Jeremy English at Liverpool, raised £200k from the sale of Scottish youngster Gary Mackay-Steven to Blackpool on the transfer window’s final day, and despite lying only 15th in the Premier League with only 2 points, they beat Austria’s Rapid Wien with two 2-0 victories. Moving over to Spain, the biggest transfer news of the month would have been Sergio’s £2.3M move from Neji Hyuuga’s Deportivo to Espanyol, the latter managed by hungry Joe Gleeson. However, this was matched by the blowing of the same amount on Nino, mastermined by Wobill Luman’s Betis. Considering that they currently lie 16th in the La Liga table, the transfer will have to have some time to have its effect. Jack Browne also made a mint as the Sevilla manager sold his £2.2M prospect Aquivaldo Mosquera to Cool Manager’s Atlético Madrid. Despite being top of the table after the one game played, the illustrious purchase by Englishman Manager was not great, as Mosquera got a 5.4 in his first game despite the 3-0 win over Deportivo. The Italian Serie A has only played one game also, but it’s little surprise that Will de Mote’s A.C. Milan are top, with the bigger surprise being the spectacular fashion by which opponents Fiorentina lost. Considering that Ben Taylor’s side spent the most among Italian teams for the month, £2.8M on a co-ownership deal from dafuge’s Torino, a 0-3 loss was not amiable. Juventus, managed by the charming Lisa Jeffries, made the biggest income from one transfer, selling Italian Mauro Camoranesi to Chelsea for £9.25M. Chelsea, managed by Portuguese Andre da Conceiçao, lie top of the Premier League after a 9-1 combined score from their first three games. This included two 3-0 victories, with Zach Machios’s Portsmouth coming closest to an upset, managing to score one in concession of their three. Yet da Conceiçao’s £9.25M purchase, which wiped out his previous profit for July, was not the highest in the Premier League for the month, and it was of course Liam Ferguson’s Manchester City who spent like they had ants in their pants, with a combined slush out of £39.25M on three players: Darijo Srna, Chinedu Obasi and Antonio Valencia. The latter was a great windfall for female Wigan manager Brettney Joven, the £10.5M funding the season’s campaign which has them in 11th place. As for Manchester City, they could be doing better, with a win, draw and loss putting them in 8th. Their European exploits have been admirable, however, a combined 7-0 win over Slovaks Spartak Trnava putting them into the UEFA Cup. Napoli, managed by Lord Weeman, also won their way to a victory of the same score in the same round of the UEFA Cup, the 2nd Qualifying, their opponents being Vojvodina from Serbia. With a 3-0 victory over bottom-placed Siena, they sit in second placed in Serie A, their only transfer being the loan release of a 17-year-old to Giugliano. Their fierce rivals, of which they have a lot, Roma, were challenging them for those high positions, having won 2-0 under the management of Clark Aitken. Udinese took up the last of the spots among the Spanish top four, with their Andorran manager Tyler Burrows having won 2-0 and spent no further on the £2.8M from last month. They also lost 0-1 to Liverpool in a pre-season friendly. Phill Ewles’s Valladolid lay just inside the cusp of the relegation zone in La Liga, having lost their first game 0-2 at home at the hands of Cristobal Blanco’s Recreativo. Tom Hamilton’s Mallorca lie just above Valladolid in 17th, having also lost 0-2, but having spent £650k on two late transfers, including Niko Kovac for £400k, with a further free transfer in of Stephen Appiah. Mallorca’s conquerers, Barcelona, lie 4th, with Haowan Madridstas, making no transfer impact expect the loaning out of two youngsters early in the month. However, an epic 8-0 win at the Nou Camp contributed to a 11-0 win aggregate win over Poles Wisla Krakow in the Champions League third qualifying round. Unbeaten in all competitions, including friendlies, and having conceded only three goals, the Spanishman’s team were looking formidable. Back in England, Sunderland found themselves in the favourable position of third. Their manager, Scott Tysoe, had won two of his three games, the other being a respectable 2-2 draw at Anfield. Zach Machios had guided his Portsmouth team to only 1 point in the League, but the highlight of their month was without doubt the 2-2 draw with Maurice Jobson’s Manchester United that won them the Community Shield on penalties. Machios spent a further £1.5M on a player from Hearts while loaning out two players to Charlton. The Carling Cup Second Round had been played and 11 Premier League teams made it through to the next stage, including Whoopy Dee’s West Ham who beat Huddersfield 2-0, and Bolton, managed by Arnold J. Rimmer, beat Tranmere 4-0. Ricky Nakano’s Middlesbrough and Shazad Ali’s Newcastle won 3-1 over their opponents while Blackburn’s 3-0 away win over Coventry sent them through. In Italy there was the Italian Cup, and not a single Serie A side lost in the Third Qualifying Round, although it took Cardio Vascular’s Genoa extra time to beat Mantova 3-0. Reggina, managed by last month’s manager of the update James Salter, had the best performance, 4-0 over Avellino while Theo Stigarakis’s Catania squeaked past Ravenna. Unfortunately for Salter, he lost his first game 1-2 to Juventus, while Stigarakis’s Catania team lie just above the drop zone after a 0-2 defeat away from home. The Spanish Super Cup was a tightly contested game between two teams. While Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid won the away leg 2-1, it was Jimmy Riddle’s Valencia who won the trophy after a spectacular 4-0 win at the Bernabéu. Riddle also beat Joe Seddon’s Getafe 1-0 to take a 100% record at the end of the month. The Italian Super Cup was won 2-1 over Roma by Ben Cee’s Inter. The Singaporean took extra time to do it but lifted the trophy to tie in with their 2-1 opening day win over bermybhoy’s Atalanta. There were a few other major transfers in the Italian leagues, the majority of which were co-ownerships. Vincenzo Fiorello half-joined Juventus from Da Hoover Man’s Sampdoria and Mikey Twigge signed Andrea Esposito on a co-ownership from Mikael Schøler’s Bologna for £1.1M. In European competition, Mark Cator’s Aston Villa beat Siroki Brijeg 8-0 in the UEFA Cup including a 6-0 win at Villa Park. Maurice Jobson’s Manchester United beat Zenit St. Petersburg to record a UEFA Super Cup win, yet there are treats in store in the Champions League, with a few meetings of managers in the competition. Lars Tommersen’s Villarreal will face Tom Smith’s Arsenal in Group B, that group also including Steve McClaren’s FC Twente. Fiorentina will meet Manchester United while the undoubted group of the Group Stage from our point of view is Group E. Clark Aitken, Cool Manager and Jeremy English will meet as Roma, Atlético Madrid and Liverpool take on Rangers. In the UEFA Cup, Bryan McGuinness’s Everton will face Wisla Krakow, and Maz Armley’s Racing face AaB of Denmark in two of the highlighted ties out of many. With another month complete, all managers remain a perfect length from the drop, yet what does next month have in store? As well as up to three European games, each league is playing at least three fixtures, and there are cup rounds in England and Italy. While the next few weeks should be a safe period for everyone involved, this is the point at which the foundations for the season are laid. Get them wrong and you might find yourself one of the first to go. Manager of the Update It’s a bit more difficult to give a manager of the update this time around, with so many teams excelling, but my personal choice is Lawrence Lazewski, Valencia due to the Spanish Super Cup win including a beautiful performance at Real Madrid’s home ground. Scott Tysoe could have won it in view of Sunderland’s above-average league position early on, or Ben Cee’s Inter for winning the Italian Super Cup. At the end of the day, for Riddle to also bring a win in the first game he just gets the edge on this one. weeeman27bob
Update 2 – weeeman27bob Years: 0, Months: 2, Days: 55 As August turns to September, three teams have already won trophies. Chief among them are Maurice Jobson’s Man United, who have picked up two trophies so far. A one goal victory over Zach Machios’s Portsmouth earned them the Community Shield. This was followed by a penalty shootout win against Zenit St Petersburg to add the European Super Cup to their collection. Valencia’s 0-2 loss at home in the first leg always meant winning the Spanish Super Cup would be hard, and after a draw at the Santiago Bernabéu, Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid have had a chance to celebrate. However, not contented with just a trophy, Volman also snapped up Yury Zhirkov for a massive £15.5M. In Italy, Inter picked up the Super Cup after a victory over Clark Aitken’s Roma. Ben Cee’s team, though, needed a slice of luck, winning after scoring a penalty. With only six clubs being involved in cups so far, much of the interest has been transfer linked. The biggest spenders come as no surprise, with Man City splashing out over £64M on just five players. Fans at Eastlands though can look forward to Darijo Srna and Antonio Valencia ripping it up on the pitch, amongst others. Action in Italy sees Zdravko Kuzmanovic shared between Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina and Inter after the San Siro club made a £7.5M offer. Action has been limited elsewhere with Juventus making the only other big signing. Lisa Jeffries has chosen experience over youth in signing veteran keeper Antonin Kinsky. Jeffries has also offloaded sweeper Nicola Legrottaglie to Atlético Madrid, which should please Cool Manager. Looking back to England, Scott Tysoe has bought two Scots to the club, one from each of the Old Firm respectively. This has helped the Blackcats rise to fourth in the table after three games, winning two of them. Tom Smith’s Arsenal lead the race so far with a 100% record. They also progressed in Europe with a 5-0 aggregate victory over Vitória Sport Club. They were overshadowed in qualifying though by Jeremy English’s dominant Liverpool who stuck seven goals past Finns Tampere United. Also progressing through to the group stages are Atlético Madrid, Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona, Fiorentina and Juventus. In the UEFA cup, Neji Hyuuga’s Derportivo made easy work of Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjaroar, a Finnish team, winning their tie by six goals. Liam Ferguson’s Man City fared even better, putting eight goals past FC Haka. Returning to the Premiership, Fréderico Canvey’s Stoke sit bottom of the league with no points from their three games. Aston Villa and Hull join them. Mark Cator, however, should not be too disappointed after two tough fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool. Martin Bojangles should be unhappier though, despite a draw against Chelsea, as Hull lost to Brighton in the League Cup. Portsmouth may not have beaten Man United, but pulled off the shock of the league so far in defeating Liverpool three goals to one. This sees them ninth with a game in hand. Robert Boyle has had a mixed hand so far, gaining four points from the three games, after a scrappy win against Ricky Nakano’s Middlesbrough. Unlike their other newly arrived teams, Brucie Bonus’s West Brom are flying high in eighth place, but the jury is out on whether they will stay there. Also surprisingly high are Fulham, which will please Tim Aubel who has had two draws and a win so far. Shazad Ali may have signed Olexander Aliev, but has every right to be unhappy with Newcastle’s start to the season, picking up only one win. Bryan McGuinness’s Everton, and Arnold J. Rimmer’s Bolton are in similar positions. In Spain, Valencia and Villarreal sit atop the league after demolitions of Deportivo and Andy Morton’s Sporting, which much please Lars Tommersen. Cristobal Blanco and Sirus Lannock faced off at Recreativo, with Blanco’s team winning a closely fought game 3-2 to sit 7th in the table. The big game in Spain though was El Clasico, the legendary and fierce rivalry between Real Madrid and barcelona, with Real the victors in a thrilling five goal game, which pleased fans across the globe. In a slightly less watched game, Jellybean Man’s Numancia lost 1-2 to Tom Hamilton’s Mallorca, where the partying never stops. There were, somewhat surprisingly, no draws in Spain, but only because a late goal for Jack Browne’s Sevilla gave them the three points against Maz Armley’s Racing. Hopefully for Armley he’ll see his side racing back to the top. Betis beat Almería by two goals to see them sitting third in the table, meaning Wobill Luman is very happy indeed. Both Valladolid and Espanyol had a great start to the season, thanks to new managers Phill Ewles and Joe Gleeson, as they defeated David Machine’s Athletic and Saul Goode’s Osasuna by two goals to nil each. Like Spain, Italy shows the bizarre drawless start to the season. Da Hoover Man’s Sampdoria lead the league thanks to a three goals to one thumping of Mathias Brunckhorst’s Chievo. They are closely followed by Inter, then Jonte Rhodes’s Lazio. Rhodes’s new team beat James Salter’s Reggina at home, leaving Reggina’s manager with salt in his wounds. Lord Weeman’s Napoli pulled of the shock of the opening fixtures after beating AC Milan away. The shock result must put Will de Mote under scrutiny from the fans and he must hope his team’s performances improve. Clark Aitken’s Roma won the big game of the round at home to Juventus giving the Rome team great momentum as the season starts. Cardio Vascular will be angry with his Genoa team, who, after going a man down, let in two soft goals to James Ridley’s Siena. dafuge’s Torino also lost by the same scoreline to Mikael Schøler’s Bologna. Finally, Super Lampard has every right to be pleased with his team after they defeated Tyler Burrows’s Udinese by two goals. Manager of the Update There haven’t been any outstanding performances, but this month’s winner is; Tom Smith, Arsenal Zach Machios may have caused an upset with his Portsmouth team, but couldn’t find a way to beat Man United. Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid might have won a trophy and beaten Barcelona, but they were expected to. The same can be said of Maurice Jobson’s Man United who won two trophies, but haven’t been the best in the Premiership. Smith has led Arsenal to the top of the league, and into the next round of Europe with a 100% record with three clean sheets in three games in the EPL. Ridleys
Writer’s Notes: Apologies on the late update. You will have read this update before as well. Update 2 - Ridleys Years: 0, Months: 2, Days: 55 Two months now gone, and three trophies have already been won. Congratulations to Maurice Jobson, Ben Cee and Lucas Volman, managers of Manchester United, Inter and Real Madrid, who all recorded victories in their country’s Community Shield/Super Cup. Some more good news for everyone else is that once again there were no sackings this month, so everybody still has a job. Manchester United have got off to a winning start in the league as well, with Jobson guiding them to 2 wins from their 2 games, as well as winning the European Super Cup 3-1 against Zenit St. Petersburg at the end of the month, Ben Cee drew his first game against Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina 1-1. Volman, who spent £14.5m on Yury Zhirkov at the beginning of the month, lost his first league game 0-1 against rivals Barcelona. Wigan and their female manager Brettney Joven have dived further in to their transfer budget, signing 4 more players in August ,Roy Beerens; Artavazd Karamyan; Marek Sapaya and Roman Shirokov, for a combined fee of £9.1m. Scott Tysoe at Sunderland brought in 2 loanees, Emerson and Mariano Pavone, for a combined fee of £1.54m to add to his attack and midfield. Sunderland are 7th in the league with 2 wins and 1 defeat, whereas Wigan are at the opposite side of the table and are lying in 17th place. It has not been such a pleasurable start for the other manager in Manchester, Liam Ferguson, manager of ManchesterCity, who, despite spending a lot of money in the summer, find’s his team rock bottom of the Premiership, losing all 3 of their games so far, against Liverpool 2-1, Ricky Nakano’s Middlesbrough 2-1 and Chelsea. Nakano’s Middlesbrough are 5th in the league, taking 6 points from the 9 available in the first three games. It has been a much better start for Bryan McGuinness however, as his Everton side lead the Premiership alongside Chelsea and their manager Andre da Conceiçao. Both managers have recorded 2 wins and 1 draw so far from their 3 league games. Bryan McGuinness also won the Manager of the Month award for the Premiership, with da Conceiçao in second place and Mark Cator, manager of Aston Villa, in third place, as he guided Aston Villa to 2 victories and 1 defeat in his first 3 league games. In Europe, Tom Smith, at Arsenaland Jeremy English, at Liverpool, progressed through to the Group Stages of the Champions League with comfortable 3rd Qualifying Round wins. In the UEFA Cup both ManchesterCity and Aston Villa both progressed through to the UEFA Cup 1st Round. In the English League Cup 12 managers were taking part. 11 of the 12 matches have been played, with ManchesterCity to play their game against Watford next month. Fréderico Canvey, at Stoke, beat their Championship opponent, Coventry, 1-0. There was also a good win for HullCity and their manager Martin Bojangles as they thrashed Crewe Alexandra 4-0. Whoopy Dee was 1 of only 2 Premiership managers to get knocked out of the competition at this early stage as they lost on penalties against Swansea. Sunderland were the other Premiership team to get knocked out. Stoke will play Southampton in the next round and Hull are to play away at Everton. With only 1 league game played in both Italy and Spain it is difficult to say who has made a brilliant start and who has not been as effective. Sevilla manager, Jack Browne made a very impressive start to his league career though as he dominated Atlético Madridand their manager, Cool Manager, and won comfortably 3-0. Atlético Madrid are joint bottom of La Liga with Neilio’s Almeria, who also got defeated 3-0, against Lars Tommersen, manager of Villarreal who join Sevilla up the top of the table at this early stage. Haowan Madridstas at Barcelona also recorded an important win as they overcame huge rivals Real Madrid 1-0. They also progressed in to the Group Stages of the Champions League, beating Partizan 8-1 on aggregate in the 3rd Qualifying Round. Across the city at Espanyol it was a less convincing start, as manager Joe Gleeson, lost his first league game in charge 1-0 against Jellybean Man’s survival hopefuls Numancia. At. Madrid also progressed through to the Champions League Group Stages, beating Panathinaikos 6-0 over both legs. Over in Italy Da Hoover Man, manager of Sampdoria, has made more signings over the last month. He brought in 3 more players, Jorge Martinez; Róbert Feczesin and Antonino Barillà, on co-ownership deals as well as one player, Gianluca Miolli, who was signed on a free transfer. These 4 players came to a total of £2.15m. Lazio manager Jonte Rhodes also brought in 3 more players on co-ownership deals, these 4 players were Lino Marzorati, Adam Vaas and Marco Zambelli and cost a total of £1.7m. With all these signings though the squad is becoming unsettled and Sampdoria lost their first game of the season 3-1. Lazio won their game easily 3-0. bermybhoy’s Atalanta recorded the best win of the first round of league fixtures as they beat James Salter’s Reggina 3-1. Atalanta are joint top with Juventus and AC Milan, whereas Reggina are right down the bottom of the table in 18th place. The only other female manager in the competition, Lisa Jeffries, manager of Juventus, beat Sampdoria 3-1 in their first game of the season. All 12 managers who were taking part in the Italian Cup managed to get through to the next round (the 4th Qualifying Round). The most notable results were for Mikey Twigge, manager of Palermo, and dafuge, manager of Torino. Both teams struggled against their Serie B opposition and it took extra time and even penalties for Twigge’s side to progress through to the next round. There was a big victory for Siena manager, James Ridley, who guided his team to a 3-0 win. Palermo face AlbinoLeffe in the next round, Torino were drawn against Modena and Siena will play against Mathias Brunckhorst’s Chievo, who beat Treviso 3-0 in their 3rd Qualifying Round tie. Manager of the Update My manager of the update has to go to; Bryan McGuinness, Everton Another tough one this month with not many games, but the Everton manager has looked very comfortable so far at Everton and top the Premiership, scoring 9 goals in the process. Manchester United manager Maurice Jobson, also had a good start to the season, winning both the Community Shield and the European Super Cup, but I don’t think the team has shown their full potential yet. Wigan manager Brettney Joven also deserves a shout as she, despite bringing in 6 players in the transfer window, has made a profit of £6.25m so far this season just from transfers. weeeman27bob
Update 3 – weeeman27bob Years: 0, Months: 3, Days: 85 Three months in, all managers remain stable and a massive seven teams are still unbeaten. In England the leaders come as no surprise, with Tom Smith’s Arsenal yet to concede a single goal. It looks like it will be tough beating the Gunners at this rate. Also unbeaten in England are Andre da Conceiçao’s Chelsea, but sandwiched between the two are Man City with thirteen points. The most impressive performances, however, have come from opposite ends of the country. Robert Boyle’s Blackburn sit an impressive fourth and with wins over Tim Aubel’s Fulham and Martin Bojangles’s Hull, Boyle has had a good start to the season. The other star performers are Portsmouth who sit fifth. Zach Machios’s team have been far from impressive though, scraping wins against Shazad Ali’s Newcastle and Whoopy Dee’s West Ham by single goals and going down to West Brom. In La Liga, the race for the title is much closer. Lawrence Lazewski should be pleasantly pleased with his team’s performances so far as Valencia top the table. Separated by just two goals are Real Madrid, who, like Valencia, are unbeaten after five games. In fact, both would have 100% records had they not shared the points after a 0-0 draw between them. Tom Hamilton’s Mallorca are the surprise package in the Spanish league so far with three wins and two draws so far. Also doing much better than expected, are Sirus Lannock’s Málaga who sit in eighth, a massive eleven places above where the media predicted them. In Italy, the surprises are coming from the other direction. Juventus lie only fifteenth after five games with only one victory. Lisa Jeffries must start to improve otherwise she could find herself out of the competition. Unsurprisingly, a Milan teams sits top. In this case it’s Ben Cee’s Inter who have earned thirteen points from their five games. Joining them are Lord Weeman’s Napoli, who are followed by Tyler Burrows’s Udinese who have scored a goal in every game so far this season. Ben Taylor’s Fiorentina sit seventh with seven points, and seven goals both scored and conceded. Although Taylor might not be happy with their league form, he should be delighted with the form in Europe. His team smashed Real Madrid by three goals to nil and sit top of their group. The only other teams to clash were Chelsea and Villarreal. Lars Tommersen may be disappointed with his team’s defeat away in England, but will hope to do better when they host the London giants at home. Cool Manager’s Atlético beat Dutch team PSV by three goals to nil. Equally impressive were Man United who slotted three goals past Greeks Olympiakos. Maurice Jobson’s team should look to progress far in this competition and have got the start they needed. Their rivals, Paul Hartman’s Liverpool, did better though, beating another Greek team, this time Panathinaikos, by four goals. The Reds haven’t had the best start in the league though, only sitting ninth. Barcelona are also lower than expected in only fifth position. Like Liverpool though, they seem to be a different team in Europe, beating Ukranians Shaktar Donetsk by two goals. The same can be said of Juventus who top their Champions League group. In the first round of the UEFA Cup Valencia continued their impressive form in beating Turks Sivasspor in the first leg of the first round by three thrilling goals. Mark Cator’s Aston Villa bettered the Spaniard’s goal tally defeating Vitória Futebol Clube 4-0. The most exciting tie of the first round was between Maz Armley’s Racing and Napoli, with the Spanish team running out 4-2 winners. Leo Dodge’s Spurs also won, beating FC Salzburg by three goals. AC Milan have been disappointing in Europe with only a draw against much weaker Turkish opposition. Neji Hyuuga’s Deportivo managed a scrappy win against AS Aris Salonoka, a Greek team. Their league form has been even worse , with only three points from their five games. However, even that is an improvement on what Joe Seddon’s Getafe have managed, sitting bottom of La Liga with only one point. They are joined in the relegation zone by Jellybean Man’s Numancia and Phill Ewles’s Valladolid, who both have one win each. Despite winning the first Manager of the Update, Whoopy Dee’s West Ham sit bottom of the Premier League table, with only four points. Hull and Bryan McGuinness’s Everton join them. However with only three points separating twentieth and twelfth, things could be set to change. Northern Italian team Torino, managed by dafuge, sit bottom of Serie A, securing points from just two draws. Just one place above them are bermyboy’s Atalanta. However, with them are Mathias Brunckhorst’s Chievo, level on points. No Italian teams went out to lower league opposition in the Italian cup, but Neppo Monster’s Cagliari and Mikael Schøler Bologna will be taking no further part in the competition after being defeated by Catania and Genoa by 0-2 and 1-2 respectively. The biggest name to fall in the third round of the English League Cup were Arsenal, defeated one goal to three by Chelsea. Seven other Premiership teams were knocked out, of which Stoke and Brettney Joven’s Wigan went out to Championship opposition. The tie of the round was Fulham’s penalty victory over Aston Villa after two late goals gave the Midlands team the chance to win it from spot kicks, but it wasn’t to be. Manager of the Update This month’s manager of the Update is… Tom Hamilton, Mallorca Arsenal may not have conceded a goal in Europe or the Premiership, but Tom Smith’s team failed to beat Chelsea. Lawrence Lazewski’s Valencia have been impressive, but are a strong team and haven’t faced great opposition. Tyler Burrow’s Udinese won in Europe, and played well in the league, but again haven’t faced the strongest teams. Hamilton’s team are punching greatly above their weight and if their form continues they could end up in Europe. canvey!!
Writer's Notes: You've read this one before. Ridleys's will follow soon after, he's watching the cricket or something. Everyone needs a hobby I suppose. Good news too in that mikeytwigge was online two days ago. He seems to be alive. Update 3 – canvey!! Years: 0, Months: 3, Days: 85 The managers are already 85% into their first 100 days at their clubs, and Clark Aitken’s Roma have strolled to a 3-point lead at the top of Serie A. They are joined by the other two table toppers at the three leagues of focus, as Lawrence Lazewski’s Valencia sit atop La Liga and Maurice Jobson’s Manchester United are the leaders of the Premier League. However, while the Red Devils have won all six league games under their Rwandan manager, scoring 10 goals in the process, three English sides have yet to win in the Premier League. Drawing two and losing two this month, Martin Bojangles’s Hull City lie screwed to the bottom of the table. Joining them in the relegation zone are Tim Aubel’s Fulham, who beat Ricky Nakano’s Middlesbrough 2-0 in the League Cup yet drew 2-2 in the league, and Aston Villa. The latter, managed by Mark Cator, beat Brøndby 2-0 in the First Leg of their UEFA Cup 1st Round tie, yet lost 1-2 to Manchester United in the League Cup 3rd Round. Italy has four teams yet to win, although one is doing a bit better than the others. Cardio Vascular’s Genoa sit 15th in the league, and although they haven’t won, they have drawn 4 compared to the 1 draw each of the other three winless teams. This month, they managed 1-1 draws at home to Lazio and Udinese, while progressing 1-0 away over Mathias Brunckhorst’s Chievo in the Italian Cup. They also managed to hold Lisa Jeffries’s Juventus to a 1-1 draw at the Old Lady’s home ground. As well as Chievo, three other Serie A teams were knocked out in the Italian Cup Fourth Qualifying Round. Jonte Rhodes’s Lazio travelled to James Salter’s Reggina where they lost 0-1, and James Ridley’s Siena and Super Lampard’s Lecce also found themselves out of the tournament, the latter on the wrong side of a 3-0 win for Mikael Schøler’s Bologna. Neppo Monster’s Cagliari also find themselves through to the First Round after a 4-1 win over Serie B side Cittadella. In Spain, only one team has failed to win so far, that being Getafe, managed by Englishman Joe Seddon. Haowan Madridstas’s Barcelona lie below expectations in 5th place, and have also started their Champions League Group Stage abymslly, losing 0-2 to Zenit St. Petersburg. Elsewhere in the Champions League, Clark Aitken’s Roma have brought themselves to two wins, over Cool Manager’s Atlético Madrid and Jeremy English’s Liverpool. The Mersyside team also lie in 15th place in their domestic league, their worst result of the month being a 0-2 loss away to Whoopy Dee’s West Ham. However, they did progress to the League Cup 4th Round after a 2-1 win at St. Andrews. Ten Premier League sides were culled in the 3rd Round of the competition, including three against Championship opposition. Arnold J. Rimmer’s Bolton defeated Oldham, one of only two sub-championship teams to reach this stage, scoring 5 goals with both sides seeing red. Brucie Bonus’s West Bromwich Albion took extra time to do so, but knocked out the side of female manager Brettney Joven, Wigan. The three Premier League sides aforementioned, losing to Championship opponents, were Fréderico Canvey’s Stoke and Leo Dodge’s Tottenham, both away, the latter to Wolves after extra time, yet Portsmouth lost out on penalties as Reading came to visit Zach Machios’s team on the South Coast. A.C. Milan have started their UEFA Cup campaign successfully, beating Standard Liege 3-0 in the First Leg of the First Round, hosted in Italy. Will de Mote’s team have started solidly in Serie A, yet a loss in one game has cost them as they are in 5th place. With a game in hand, however, and a 3-0 win over Theo Stigarakis’s Catania, they are looking to power into touching distance of their defeators Roma. Sampdoria, another Italian side in the European competition, started well with a 2-0 win over Hibernian, Da Hoover Man’s team winning at Easter Road Stadium, yet Lord Weeman’s Napoli lost their first leg 0-1 to FC København. Lucas Volman’s Real Madrid, tying in with last month’s Super Cup defeat, had a poor start to their Champions League campaign. While they conquered Shakhtar who visited from Ukraine, a trip to Germany in the form of a tie against Schalke 04 ended in a 1-4 defeat. Andre da Conceiçao’s Chelsea team have started their Champions League campaign in style with a double-whammy win, 1-0 over PSV and 3-0 away to Panathanaikos. Lars Tommersen’s Villarreal have scored the most goals in La Liga so far, an impressive 13, and sit in second place. With three 3-2 wins, their undoing for the month came in the form of Neilio’s Almería, while they also lost by the same scoreline, 1-2, to Bordeaux in the Champions League, their next European opponents being Steve McClaren’s FC Twente. Tom Hamilton’s Mallorca have had an indifferent start to the league, and this month they only lost to Lawrence Lazewski’s Valencia, while beating Saul Goode’s Osasuna 2-1 and Jellybean Man’s Numancia 2-0. After 85 days in the job, all managers are currently Stable. October brings three things: league football, European football and Halloween! Will it be a horror story for any of our managers come the next update? Manager of the Update It’s a rather easy choice this month. The manager of the update must be; Clark Aitken, Roma Due to his unbeaten run of 6 games this month, which has propelled his team to first in both Serie A and his Champions League game. While Tom Smith’s Arsenal also haven’t lost, and neither have Maurice Jobson’s Manchester United, yet Aitken’s win over Liverpool edges it for him. That's good enough for me. kutgw and it's nice to see mikeytwigge was online.
