I must say, I do think had we brought in two players last January, we could have won the league. I think we were so CLOSE yet so far from significant success last season. We just needed a player or two to keep the team together (a dominant midfielder and an experienced DC).

I think that might have put us over the edge at the Carling Cup, which would have prevented a league season collapse.

Well, our central midfield then was Song-Wilshere-Fabregas, which was as good as anything in the league. Unless you mean a winger?

I agree on the defender part. Although wasn't Djourou in ridiculously good form around then, and it looked like he might suddenly become the player Wenger had always seen in him? Seems crazy thinking back now.

I remember going up to Old Trafford for the FA Cup and seeing JD taken off and everyone was writing off our season there and then because he looked as though he would be out for ages. Although according to certain c**** on here he's never been good enough so I probably imagined it.

Him and Koscielny were superb and then come the end of the season I was derided by some for saying this. :D

I think Nedum is a little under rated actually but there's obviously a reason why none of the top half of the table sides were sniffing around, always thought there is room to for him to improve but he's also a good player now. Maybe hardly playing hasn't helped though

If I remember correctly we had a few games without Cesc and Song? For a team that plays with 3 central midfielders we need backup there more than anywhere.

Djourou reminds me a bit of Diaby in the sense that he either players really well or really poorly, and it's usually the latter.

Why? Both his club and him were after a permanent move and he isn't good enough long-term for us to sign.

Don't see the point in reacting like a spoilt baby because one team signs a player that can play in a position we're short in temporarily. BTW Sagna started training again today as well.

Are you serious? He would have been a massive improvement over Jenkinson and provide genuine competition for Sanga as well as cover for our ever injured left backs .

His ability to play across the back for would have made him an ideal candidate. I don't believe that £80,000 figure for one second but even if it were true he would still offer far better value money than the likes of Squillaci and Djourou.

no doubt if we'd signed Onouha there would have been complaints that we're signing average unwanted players on high wages from clubs we should be competing with

Indeed. I think Wenger's in a total no-win situation with some fans now.

Not disputing that but I think its been about two seasons since I have seen him doing anything even remotely impressive going forward and his crossing has been nothing short of abysmal.

He still very good defender but as bit of competition would do him no harm.

Sagna has not even been that impressive for a long time now.

Whaaat!? He's the best defensive right back in the league by some way. Won players award for best right back last season, so I have *no idea* what you're basing that on. He may not be brilliant going forward, but his defensive work and work rate are unquestionably great.

Fair point. I’m basing it on him not providing one decent cross in two years but maybe being a bit harsh by underrating his defensive contribution.

My point still stands, we still need another right back and a versatile one with plenty of Premier League experience, who would fit in to our style of play would have been ideal.

I'm going by stats really as I don't follow Ligue 1 but I don't think going for someone who scored 25 last year in the league and was top scorer can be too big a gamble at that price. Looking at his stats this season he's not doing quite so good but I'll assume that's a bit down to Cabaye and Gervinho leaving? Either way I would have liked to have seen him join us. We need a striker.

We desperately need backup for RVP, Chamakh is a pile of poo who couldn't perform well in a mid table side, Henry is good but he's not going to do a massive amount, he'll finish but he's not got that physicality to make a big difference and then there's Chu Young who doesn't even get a shot which is stupid and ridiculous, apart from that we have nothing which is embarrassing, if RVP gets injured we're ruined (Likely he will get injured).

Also can anyone tell me why we loaned out a player of the quality of Bendtner? Obviously he wants to leave to be playing regular first team football but why did we loan him out? Did Sunderland pay a fee and are they paying his full wages? Could we not recall him or anything?

I'm sure they will have paid a fee, which means no recall. In any case with Bendtners attitude "I'll never play for Arsenal again" bringing him back would be useless even if we could.

While a motivated Bentdner would be better than what we have in reserve at the moment, he did make it clear that he didn't want to play for us again. And let's face it, he's the kind of bloke who thinks he's been poorly treated by Arsenal, even though that isn't the case.

Yes, it's always disappointing when a player with so much potential is never going to hit that because they aren't in the right state of mind, been good for us but what was it? 11 out of 10 on a self confidence test, heh, love him :D

And Frimpong has now adopted a crazy new hairstyle :D

Not quite as good as Song though!

Is there something inherently wrong at Colney/Emirates that once they start training or playing there, they will become injury prone?

It has to be. A couple of players you can excuse but this happens constantly every season. Someone needs to ask some serious questions.

The official site's press conference digest is not as pessimistic, Wenger said it is a different problem to the one that kept him out of the season so far.

on Jack Wilshere…

He has had a little setback that is under investigation at the moment so I cannot give you how long he will be out for. At the moment he is seeing a specialist and as soon as we know more we will communicate. It sets him back a little bit but for how long I don't know. It is the same foot but a different problem to the injury he had surgery on back in September. But is it an inflammation? We have to wait a little bit.

Either that or it was always going to be long term and the club didn't want to leak it in case the fans demanded a marquee signing. Wouldn't put it past them.

They went as far in this conspiracy as allowing him to run.

Apparently, we're thinking about doing a pre-season tour of Nigeria next summer.

Seems a little odd to me. I know Nigeria has a huge and ever-increasing population, but do football fans there have the wealth to give much of a boost to merchandise sales etc.? Still, I've not heard of other clubs doing African tours, so maybe there's an untapped market there.

In Nigeria it is football >>>>>>>>>> Religion >>>>>>>everything else. Your team is MAHOOSIVE over there because of "Papilo"......Kanu to you and me. Chelsea have a bit of a following too but nowhere near the love for Arsenal.

If you put out the merchandise to buy, they will buy in their droves so a very smart move by your club. Security should be the only concern as per the stuff going on now but other than that its a great move.
