Hendon 2014/2015 League One Review

Well the season has just ended and we finished in 18th place but only one point above the relegation zone, however we were safe with 3 games to go but lost them all and ended up finishing lower then had expected. Overall after switching from the 4132 into a 451 with attacking wingers I think we were alot weaker then usual and have decided to sell my wingers and stick with the narrow 4132 next season and see where that takes us.

I would say if my youngsters progressed like I expected that we'd mount a challenge but it seems they have stopped progressing due to poor training facilities which unfortunately makes me worry a little as we have an extremely young squad without much experience. Do I stick with them or try to add some experience? I don't really know at this stage as I can't really spend much this summer as usual and the experienced guys always want around £3kpw from me which is just way too much when I only get 2000 max at my home games.

We did absolutely nothing of note in the cups also as Plymouth knocked us out in the first round of the league cup, Southend knocked us out of the Johnstones Trophy that we won last season and Crystal Palace dumped us out in the first round of the fa cup. This obviously impacted the finances a fair bit as they have been the main source of my income since getting promoted into the football league.

Will write a more detailed preview to next season as I really have alot to do in selling my wingers and sorting my squad back into a narrow formation minded one, lots to do this summer I think so will get onto it.

I've won the league. A tight 1-0 win over Mansfield, Laurent Robert getting the goal in the 21st minute, means that I win the league on 98 points, 13 more than what won the league, in fact up to 4th place got more points than the title winners last season. Turned out to be a good idea to put my keeper on painkillers after all, stopped some vital shots to keep me in it.

Professional football, here we come.

First time in any lower league game I have ever played in FM that I have got promoted automatically without needing the playoffs, from FM08 to now :D

The cash flow situation in this game is actually quite irritating, I cant see any reason why I'm losing so much money per month. I'm 129k in the red and only half way through the season. I'm within budget...I don't get it.

I'm favoured personnel as well, and I am getting a statue built for me outside the ground. Good times.

Also had my staff limit expanded to 6 coaches and 4 scouts, which I thought couldn't expand before the reset date. Getting myself in terms of coaching a keeper coach, a youth coach, and two normal coaches with very good stats to train the players in areas that my only coach was lacking in.

What sort of gates are everyone getting? my highest is 500 and I'm losing 20k a month, not very good at all. On the pitch though things are going from strength to strength.

im getting around 550 slightly more in fa cup matches though and im losing around 25-30k/month:(

Season Review 2: Farnborough BSS 2011/2012

Final Table: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy84/DrewRattlesnake_85/bsstable11-12.jpg

Positions Graph: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy84/DrewRattlesnake_85/positionsgraph11-12.jpg

After a slow first half to the season I finally, after a year and a half managed to find a tactic that worked for my team (4-3-1-2) and as a result the second half to the season was great. We destroyed many a team, but with our attack minded approach we often left the back four exposed resulting in quiet a few high scoring games reflected in my high numbers of goals for/against.

Cups:

Knocked out early in both cups. Had hoped to have a run and get some cash but i'll settle for the 2nd placed finish instead ;)

Squad: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy84/DrewRattlesnake_85/squad11-12.jpg

Loads of players left over the course of the season, both because they simply were not good enough and also to help my financial situation which is still well over the -200k mark. The squad as it stands would I imagine be good enough to servive in BSP. I will try and get some freebies from League 2 that will help me to climb the table a bit.

Star Player 1: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy84/DrewRattlesnake_85/Mcdonaldprofile.jpg

My on loan star man at the back was great all season, will try and get him again for the BSP. When he returned to Reading he said he enjoyed his time here so...fingers crossed.

Star Player 2: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy84/DrewRattlesnake_85/foleyprofile.jpg

My Irish playmaker was fantastic just behind front two in acm role, chipped in with fair share of goals and created quite a few.

Transfers: http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy84/DrewRattlesnake_85/transfers11-12.jpg

There were more out goings but couldn't get them all on pic.

Aims for next season:

  • Stay up
  • earn some cash
  • learn lessons from last year (dont rotate squad needlessly and consistency with tactics)
  • improve squad with better defenders so that i can continue to play attacking tactic but not leak as many goals.

History:

Season - League - Final Position - Achievements

2010/2011 - BSS - 11 - N/a

2011/2012 - BSS - 2 - Playoff winners

Sutton Utd: Fa Cup Run

Fa Cup 2nd Qualifying Round: Sutton Utd 0-0 Ashford (Middlesex)

Fa Cup 2nd Qual Round Replay: Ashford (Middlesex) 0-1 Sutton Utd

Fa Cup 3rd Qualifying Round: Sutton Utd 1-0 Chippenham

Fa Cup 4th Qualifying Round: Staines (BSS) 0-1 Sutton Utd

Fa Cup 1st Round: Bristol Rovers (L1) 2-1 Sutton Utd

We played poorly in the early rounds and were fortunate to beat ashford on the 2nd attempt as they had played better than us in both matches. The poor form continued against chippenham but we ground out a win. We played much better against Staines and deserved the victory which should have been by 2 or 3 goals.

It had to end somewhere and i had little faith in my team getting a result against bristol rovers. We were played out of the park by them and the result flattered us. We even had a chance to clutch a draw when mark millar hit the post in the dying seconds after fitchett had made it 2-1 in the 88th min. Fitchett has been awesome for me this year scoring 11 in 14 appearances.

Only gained 44k from the bristol rovers match :( i was hoping for more

Boston Utd - Blue Square North - 2011/2012

Predicted: 3rd

Finished: 3rd

This had to go better than last season and for the most part it seemed it would. The problems became very evident right from the start of the season when we drew far too many matches with teams we (without bragging) should have d*cked over. It became almost a given that my players were not going to be reliable when it came to crunch moments in the season and how that came to kick me in the teeth.

After drawing the most amount of games I think I have ever experienced in one season playing Football Manager we began to start actually beating teams. In fact we went on a long unbeaten run (including the previous annoying draws) and kept winning for at least 8 or 9 games.

We were closing in on the top position (Stafford) and with three points between us, we met at York Street for giant clash. We took the lead and things looked like it was going swimmingly, however they pulled one back. We then took it again to them and forced a second. Then half way through the second half we decided (or two players..in two seperate incidents) that we were going to bloody hand it too them. Firstly my left back decided to play a long ball..right across our box (stunning..absolutely stunning) handing it on a plate for two Stafford strikers to one two between them and put it past my keeper. Then my centre back decides that he can't be bothered to jump in the dying minutes of the match and allows Stafford's striker again to nod one against the stump and in. Bollocks. No worth spit this team and it was about to get worse.

My best player (well..when he feels like it) James Keating gets injured in the last match of the season for 5 or 6 weeks. Ruling him out of the play offs completely. Writing was on the wall.

Our semi-final play offs last season were not great performance wise but nevertheless close matches. This one..again close but generally my players just looked so untrustworthy keeping their head and within 10-20 minutes of the first leg, my centre back gets sent off for a cynical foul. Tactics my arse, told him to go bloody easy! My guys lose 2-1 in the first leg and the second leg..they just don't give what it takes and go out..close..but with a whimper.

Playoff Leg One

Playoff Leg Two

Now I think (as I think about another season in BSN) I will have to sell a lot of these players and rebuild from scratch. Maybe bar a couple of genuinely good League 2 players, I need to get this squad sorted so I can storm this league next season and leave it behind me.

Carshalton BSP Season Review 2013-14 - 1st (Champions)

The media predicted me to come 24th, the board asked for me to avoid relegation, which I said I would. The media constantly all season told me that I would slip up and fall into obscurity. However, that never happened, and we looked like winning the league comfortably.

However, I did suffer a slight slump in form, but luckily, the lead I had from before was enough to always keep me in the game, and come the last day of the season, I was 1 point behind Mansfield. I beat them 1-0, with a Laurent Robert goal (who unfortunately is retiring at the end of next season). So next season will get me League 2 football, and professional status.

1-0 down, then 2-1 up and finished the game losing 3-2 against Weymouth.

I think it's time to start employing the 'park the bus' strategy as soon as i get infront from now on...

Im looking forward to a massive clean out of my squad at the end of the season too :D

If it's the same as FM09, the budget isn't how much money you have, but how much the board are willing to let you spend.

Season 2011/2012 - Tonbridge Angels

Following 'success' (success being defined as staying up), I told the board we should've been challenging for promotion at least. Bad mistake. When we didn't challenge for promotion at all, my head was on the line. However, we finished comfortably in mid-table which can only show signs of improvement, a definite plus.

League Finish: 16th

League Graph

We did hover so slightly at the top for one game; it tasted sweet and I wanted more but the boys struggled from then on.

Transfers

Only one transfers but personally I think it was excellent. Eastham was a rock in defence. Thos who left were not needed and Vickers was just too old for the team, despite having good attributes. Currently, our finances are awful :(

FA Cup

A good run was ended by Torquay in the 2nd round and by a late equaliser after we had come from 2 goals down to draw. We had squeezed past Tooting & Micham, thumped Hastings United, struggled and managed to overcome Horsham and then went onto thump BSP side Darlington in the first round before falling to Torquay.

FA Trophy

We fell to fellow Blue Square South side Welling after leading and dominating for most of the match. We had thumped Carshalton to get here but we couldn't progress further and we crashed out.

Key Player Profiles

Michal Dolinajec - The 20 year old had another marvellous season, providing and scoring. He had 16 goals and 15 assists mostly playing in his favoured AMC position so an excellent contribution from him.

Ashley Eastham - An absolute solid rock in defence, shut out the opposition most of the time. Managed to get up the other end three times to score as well, including a debut goal.

Fabio Ferreira - Fabio had a great season despite not scoring or providing. He was normally the passer to the provider as he slotted into the AMR position very well.

John Leonard - The midfielder played in his favoured defensive midfield position for the majority of the season and was completely solid throughout - he even managed to hit two 30+ yard screamers which had me very pleased.

Kyle Wilson - Well, Super Kyle was excellent this year. Played as a lone striker and chipped in with 18 goals for himself and even layed on 10 for others. I couldn't have asked for more and only hope he can continue this form..

I bet this stupid question has been asked half a million times, but are there any rules when it comes to signing staff? I wasn't able to find anything in the OP, but I might just be blind! ;)

Either way, I'm gonna start this challenge with Boreham Wood once they turn up.. have reloaded about 50 times by now, and have yet to see them. :(

Annoyingly I haven't recieved much of a wage increase, and now I have to get players on full time contracts, it is going to cost a lot more. Going to have to keep players on part time for now.

Got an Italian coming in that was released by Man Utd (real person too) with Championship potential and League 1 ability

After 7 seasons with Merthyr (4 straight seasons in L2 now), I've come to the following conclusions:

1) The war for talent is a lot tougher in this years version -- you can't just load up on academy dropouts like you can in FM08 and FM09 -- you actually have to make a lot more tradeoffs (i.e., one 4 star player wants 1000 per week vs. another one who wants 300 per week) which requires doubling down on scouting

2) Finances are pretty tricky -- even staying within your budget may lead to losses if you don't make good cup runs or really, really squeeze players during negotiations

3) It's unclear which tactics are the most effective -- in previous manifestations you could kind of stick to a proven system and you'd do pretty well

This probably reflects reality a lot more -- but is requiring some adjustments, to be sure.

Just my two cents . . .

2010/11 BSN - 7th

2011-12 Season - Nuneaton Town

Blue Square North: 7th

FA Cup: 3rd Qualifying Round (lost to Alfreton)

FA Trophy: 3rd Round (lost to Corby)

Summary: Despite my overwhelming feeling being that we regressed from last year, managed to only pick up 2 points less and finish in the same position. Found the goalscorer I wanted, but sprung a leak in the back. Complete revamp of the squad and playing system required methinks.

Tonbridge Angels Season Review 10-11

First season ends without promotion but a promising season all the same. Finishing 3rd and being in with a shout of the title until the penultimate game. We had a very young squad which lead to quite a few mistakes but they've now had a full season of football so expecting us to come back and be a force again next season and push for the title.

I'm in the play-offs! :D

Question - I've got 1 game left before the season's over. How long after the last game are the play-offs, i.e. is it worth it resting my first team for the redundant final league game?

I would, no reason to risk them getting hurt.

Anyone else stuggling to sell players in the BSP for actual money?

I'm trying to sell several players who won't sign new contracts before the Irish and Welsh teams poach them for free, but even the ones worth £20K-£50K are only recieving bids of £0 plus a 20%-50% sell on clause from League One and League Two teams :(
