Bendtner fined for advertising on his underpants

Yeah, there is a thread for general 'UEFA fining every association' but this deserves a thread of its own!

Bendtner apparantly showed a bookmakers logo on his underwear when celebrating a goal, UEFA have only gone and fined him €100k and banned him for one match in the WCQ!

Should have had a racist message on his underpants, would have got a smaller fine :(

For what it's worth, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this fine imo. The problem lies completely with the fines it's being compared with, ie the racism fines.

True that, but the 1 game suspension is ludicrous and that's where UEFA shows its true colours. What he did is comparable to taking off your shirt and that's a yellow, not a red.

It's only comparable to taking off your shirt if you had an advertisement on your undershirt.

Don't **** off the corporate suits/sponsors. Ever. They take everything and give nothing. Leeches.

I hate suits. They hoover up tickets that could go to genuine fans. Have no interest in the game. Or the team. Just quaff bo*locks and eat prawn sandwiches impressing their scum mates they 'got a ticket'.

See the corporate seats at Wembley for 10 mins after HT break. Really, really hate them. :) Unhealthily so.

Apart from the millions of pounds that clubs/national FAs/governing bodies can invest in the game? Get a grip lad.

Nah, football was just fine before they turned up. Google it if you weren't around.

You really think they do it to improve football. Jump/Bandwagon/On comes to mind. Aye, get a grip alright.

True. I think when a player does it it's one thing but when they're stopping people in the crowd it's another a la World Cup and yes, it does look stupid against the other fines

Paddy Power has confirmed that it will pay Nicklas Bendtner's €100,000 (£80,600) fine forshowing the brand's name on his underpants during Denmark's game against Portugal.

The bookmaker quipped on its blog that UEFA had decided to tackle the matter "after solving all the social, political and race issues surrounding Euro 2012".

"We can't do anything about UEFA's chilled-out attitude to racism or political oppression, but we can do something about the Pantsgate," the company said.

"We've decided to foot the bill for the fine. Paddy Power are paying Bendtner's massively over-the-top €100,000 fine."

Paddy Power's head of mischief Ken Robertson added: "We pride ourselves on listening to our customers and what we heard loud and clear yesterday was that Nicklas Bendtner should not suffer as a result of UEFA's double standards.

"We don't believe that Nicklas should be penalised for nothing more serious than wearing his lucky underpants which in fairness was only a bit of fun."

Paddy Power then listed other UEFA fines as a contrast with that given to Bendtner:

Euro 2012 - Russian FA fined £96,000 for fan violence ahead of the game with Poland

Euro 2012 - Croatia fined £20,000 for pitch invader, throwing missiles and lighting of flares

Euro 2012 - Germany fined £8,000 for fans throwing missiles onto the pitch v Portugal

Euro 2012 - Portuguese FA fined £4,000 for delaying the start of the second half v Germany

2012 - Porto fined £16,700 for racist incidents

2008 - Croatia fined £10,000 for racist incidents

2007 - Serbia fined £16,500 for racist incidents

2004 - Spain fined £45,000 for racist incidents

This comparing of FAs to an individual footballer is so ludicrous. What would happen if an individual footballer would be involved in racist incidents? One match fine, right? Pity we don't have any incidents to compare to...

Son, if you think corporate suits were that big a factor before Sky invented football then dig out. Ask your dad or google it.

Just FYI, but calling someone "son" in a pathetic attempt to belittle them does not help your argument. Hope that helps.

Still only get a yellow for that

not if it was euro 2012 you don't. you'll get a yellow for taking of your shirt. then the subsequent fine and ban for showing an advertisement on your undershirt.

ridiculuos, but that's how it would be
