INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Paris Saint-Germain F.C thread. In this version you will be the manager of players like Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marco Verratti, Javier Pastore and Zlatan Ibrahimović. There will be a lot of money and a lot of expectation, do you have what it takes to handle the giants from Paris?

LAST SEASON

SEASON 2011/12

Qatar Investment Authority bought Paris Saint-Germain in June 2011 and hired Leonardo as a Director of Football to help the club secure top class players around Europe. The club signed Nicolas Douchez, Kevin Gameiro, Milan Biševac, Jérémy Ménez, Blaise Matuidi, Mohamed Sissoko, Salvatore Sirigu, Javier Pastore and Diego Lugano for significant transfer fees. PSG became the richest club in France and one of the richest clubs in the world. New chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi presented a five-year plan to take Paris Saint-Germain to the top of the tree, in France and abroad. He outlined the new owners' long-term plans for the club:

"PSG has an enormous potential - they are the only big football club in a city of 12 million inhabitants! That's unique in Europe. Our aim is to qualify for the Champions League every year as of 2012. We want to invest in the big stars of tomorrow from all over the world, including France."

- Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Chairman

In December 2011 PSG decided to fire manager Antoine Kombouaré despite some very good results in the league. It didn't took long until they hired Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, previously at Chelsea. In the January Transfer Window PSG signed Maxwell, Ronan Le Crom, Alex and Thiago Motta. That's almost £90M spent on only transfers.

In the last game of the season PSG came from behind to beat Lorient away but the win was not enough for them to win the league. Montpellier won its first Ligue 1 title, finishing the season with 82 points, three more than PSG.

CURRENT SEASON

SEASON 2012/13

Paris Saint-Germain signalled their intent to become one of Europe's biggest clubs in the summer transfer window, spending nearly £25M acquiring one of Serie A's biggest stars in Ezequiel Lavezzi. The Argentinean put pen to paper on a four-year deal and was presented at the Parc des Princes alongside director of football Leonardo. He will wear the number 11 shirt and will link up with Argentinian compatriot Javier Pastore.

"He is a player that we have been following for a long time and we are very happy to welcome him as part of our club. A very good player has joined the club. He will make history at this club, I am convinced of that."

- Leonardo, Director of Football

lavezzix.png

Also arriving from Italy are Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimović in a £50M double deal from AC Milan. PSG also signed the highly rated Italian youngster Marco Verratti for around £8M. The 19-year-old, rated as one of Europe's best young playmakers, was handed the number 24 shirt and linked up with fellow Italians Salvatore Sirigu and Thiago Motta. In August PSG confirmed the record signing of Brazilian wonderkid Lucas Moura from São Paulo for a fee of £37.5M. He will join the club in January 2013.

Milan Biševac, Ceará, Loris Arnaud and Granddi N'Goyi have all left the club for other teams and Jean-Eudes Maurice, Loïck Landre, Neeskens Kebano and starlet Jean-Christophe Bahebeck are out on loans. Anthony Réveillère was very close to finalise his transfer to PSG but failed his medical, so instead they signed Gregory van der Wiel from Ajax to strengthen the right-back position.

Following Qatar Investment Authority's takeover, Paris Saint-Germain became the richest club in France and one of the richest clubs in the world and is the second best-supported football club in France after rivals Marseille.

HISTORY

PSG was established on 12 August 1970 after a merger between Stade Saint-Germain and Paris FC. The club has always represented both Paris and nearby Saint-Germain-en-Laye. And with so many people eager to see a big club wearing the capital's colors, the nascent team grew at a stunning pace early on. Top-tier status was attained within four years and by the end of the 1970s, PSG were ready to embark upon a historic decade. PSG tasted French Cup honours in 1982 and 1983, before capturing their first league crown in 1986 – breakthroughs that opened the doors to Europe and some memorable encounters, particularly with Juventus.

The 1990s proved even more fruitful, with PSG entering a golden age after television giants Canal+ bought the club in May 1991. Now enjoying serious investment, the club was able to set their sights steadily higher. PSG were on the move and between 1992 and 1998 they contested two UEFA Cup Winners' Cup finals. Winning in 1996 and reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals once and twice advanced to the same stage of the UEFA Cup. On the domestic scene, results were just as satisfying, with PSG celebrating another League 1 title, three French Cups, two League Cups and just as many Champions Trophy wins.

honoursz.png

To the considerable chagrin of the club's supporters, PSG has never threatened to hit those same heights again. Three more trophies have been landed but crisis has never lain far away. PSG's form slipped to 9th in 2004–05 and 2005–06. In 2006–07, they did not impress, failing to reach a cup final and finishing 15th, just three places from relegation. Following their sale by Canal+ to Colony Capital, PSG continued to lose momentum in the league eventually finishing 16th, just three points above the relegation zone. PSG nonetheless won the League Cup and reached the French Cup Final, losing Lyon. In 2008–09, PSG regained fitness and struggled for the title the most part of the season, but finished 6th and out of European action. In the 2009–10, PSG claimed the French Cup and the next season ended in disappointments with the French Cup being lost to Lille, while a 4th place finish in the league was not enough to deliver Champions League qualification. A few days after the season had ended, the sale of the club was finalized, with Qatar Investment Authority becoming the new owners. Next season, 2011-12 PSG finished second in the league, despite many new signings.

OWNERSHIP

Qatar Investment Authority officially became the majority shareholder of Paris Saint-Germain in 2011. Future Head of the Board, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, presented a five-year plan to take PSG to the top of the tree, in France and abroad. Qatar Investment Authority bought a controlling 70% stake in the club from, now minority, shareholder Colony Capital, who retained 29% of the capital club. In 2012 they purchased the remaining 29% stake held by Colony Capital and 1% stake held by Butler Capital Partners and became the sole shareholder of the club.

FACILITIES

PSG’s stadium is Parc des Princes, located in Paris. It was opened in June 1972 and is a football and rugby stadium with no track around the pitch. On 10 November 1973, PSG held their first match at the Parc des Princes during a match against Red Star Saint-Ouen. The following year, PSG left the Stade Georges Lefèvre and moved in at Parc des Princes permanently. The capacity is 47, 428.

facilitiesq.png

The training center of PSG is called Camp des Loges and is located in the commune of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which is in the western suburbs of Paris. The center's hosts training sessions for the senior team and also serves as the home facility for the club's Reserves and Academy. The total grassed surface area, including football pitches is 24,446 m² in a total surface area of 28,888 m², it contains all the necessary amenities for a club level. This includes an aqua-therapy centre, massage room, treatment room, weight room, relaxation room, offices for staff and presidential hierarchy, press zone and a recreational area.

THE KIT

The first kit design was founded after a merger between Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain in 1970 and was mainly solid red. A fashion designer collaborated with the club to design the shirt which would become a strong symbol of the club in 1973. PSG adopted the red and blue colors of Paris FC and combined them with the white of Stade Saint-Germain. The shirt was blue with a red central vertical bar framed by white edgings. Rumours has it that the kit designer was so impressed by Ajax's eye-catching strip, he used it as the inspiration for PSG's kit, though he changed the colour to match the French flag.

thekite.png

CREST

The first crest of PSG appeared in 1970 and consisted of a ball and a vessel which are powerful symbols of the city of Paris. After Paris FC split from Stade Saint-Germain, which kept with the name of Paris Saint-Germain, it was changed to the current crest: the red silhouette of the Eiffel Tower and the white royal cradle of Louis XIV between its legs on a blue background with white edging.

SUPPORTERS

The supporters of the club are known as parisiens. In France about 11% of the population are said to be Paris Saint-Germain supporters and worldwide they are the second most popular French club. The Kop of Boulogne is a stand in the Parc des Princes which mainly housed the Boulogne Boys, a supporter group associated with the club. It is known as the "most notorious stand in French football" due to its links with violence and far-right political groups.

With no financial worries, a very big transfer budget and a world class squad the expectations at Parc des Princes are very high. The owners demands good results in the league, in the cup and in the Champions League.

GENERAL

PSG is an established top club in the French Ligue 1, predicted to finish 1st. The squad, captained by right-back Christophe Jallet, is highly ambitious and valued at £258M. Their biggest rivals are Marseille.

generala.png

FINANCES

As mention before, the club is one of the richest clubs in the world and has a bank balance of almost £75M. The owners will also pump money into the club 1-2 times per year. PSG also have a kit sponsorship worth £5.21M per season until 2014, and an additional kit sponsorship worth £3.04M per season until 2014.

Transfer Budget: £43,478,260

Wage Budget: £1,932,121 (per week)

With £43.5M to spend on new players I recommend not to use monthly installments. More money will become available after every transfer window.

AFFILIATED CLUBS

Five clubs from France and one club from USA are affiliated clubs with PSG, all feeder clubs. The board will most likely accept any enquires to find new feeder clubs.

The first team squad at Paris Saint-Germain has 25 players. The squad are limited to four players without EU citizenship, but several non-European players in the squad have dual citizenship with an EU country. Also, players from countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific that are signatories to the Cotonou Agreement are not counted as non-European players due to the Kolpak ruling.

= PLAYER RATING

The player rating is a combination of a player's current ability and potential ability

assigned by club assistant manager Paul Clement.

GOALKEEPERS

There are currently 2 goalkeepers in the first team squad.

Nicolas Douchez ★★★★★★★★★★

Enjoyed his time at Rennes as a first choice goalkeeper before he signed for Paris Saint-Germain. I don't think he is good enough to be first choice here but he is good enough to start some games when needed, and is one of the best backup goalkeepers in the league. Two years left on his contract and at the age of 32 he shouldn't be rewarded with an extension.

Nation: France | Age: 32 | Position: Goalkeeper | Number: 1

Salvatore Sirigu ★★★★★★★★★★

Sirigu was signed from Palermo last season and played all 38 games in the league for PSG. The Italian has all the attributes to be a really good goalkeeper and has some exciting years at the club to look forward to.

Nation: Italy | Age: 25 | Position: Goalkeeper | Number: 30

DEFENDERS

There are currently 9 defenders in the first team squad.

Thiago Silva ★★★★★★★★★

Thiago Silva from Brazil and is one of the best central defenders in the world and joined the club from AC Milan in the summer. He is a ball playing defender who rarely makes any mistakes. One of three non-EU players.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 27 | Position: Central Defender | Number: 2

Mamadou Sakho ★★★★★★★★★★

Sakho is a player from the PSG youth academy and has been the captain at the club for the latest years, despite his young age at 22. His direct playing style, that's been compared to Lilian Thuram's, has earned him a place in the French national team. A leader on and off the pitch.

Nation: France | Age: 22 | Position: Central Defender | Number: 3

Siaka Tiéné ★★★★★★★★★★

Now when Maxwell has joined the club, Tiéné isn't first choice at left back any more. But he still has the physical attributes to do a decent job when he starts. He's 31 next season and his contract will expire. No need to renew it.

Nation: Ivory Coast | Age: 30 | Position: Left Back | Number: 5

Zoumana Camara ★★★★★★★★★★

Camara is still at the club, this year he's the fourth choice at his position - central defender. He is a influenced player who almost never makes mistakes, and is loyal as well. A nice gesture when he quits football would be to offering him a staff role as a youth coach.

Nation: France | Age: 33 | Position: Central Defender | Number: 6

Alex ★★★★★★★★★★

Alex is a Brazilian powerhouse who joined from Chelsea in January 2012 and is one of three non-EU players at the club. He is dangerous at taking free kicks and a shooting from distance. Should be a squad rotation player.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 30 | Position: Central Defender | Number: 13

Maxwell ★★★★★★★★★★

Maxwell is one of three non-EU players at the club and joined from Barcelona in January 2012. He is the best left back at the club but as a Brazilian he isn't very attacking, full of tricks or physical. His contract ends in 2015.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 30 | Position: Left Back | Number: 17

Sylvain Armand ★★★★★★★★★★

Armand has been at the club since 2004 and has mostly played at left back, but is almost as good as a central defender. Armand is a squad player, always doing a good job and is loyal.

Nation: France | Age: 31 | Position: Left Back | Number: 22

Gregory van der Wiel ★★★★★★★★★★

Another summer signing, van der Wiel joined the club from Ajax in August 2012 to compete with Jallet for the right back position. He is an attacking fullback with pace, technique and good work rate.

Nation: Netherlands | Age: 24 | Position: Right Back | Number: 23

Christophe Jallet ★★★★★★★★★★

Jallet is the club's captain and joined PSG in 2009 from FC Lorient. His stamina is top class, and he's a player with good determination, teamwork and work rate. He lacks a bit of defensive qualities, but likes to attack on his right flank as much as possible.

Nation: France | Age: 28 | Position: Right Back | Number: 26

MIDFIELDERS

There are currently 10 midfielders in the first team squad.

Mohamed Sissoko ★★★★★★★★★★

Sissoko has already played for top clubs around Europe - Valencia, Liverpool and Juventus. He signed for PSG last season and played 25 games in the league. Unlike other typical defensive midfielders he likes to get forward whenever possible.

Nation: Mali | Age: 27 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Number: 4

Jérémy Ménez ★★★★★★★★★★

Ménéz joined his favourite team PSG last season from Roma and scored 7 goals in his first season, most of them as a winger. Impressive. He could also play as a winger. Ménéz is also a part of the French national team.

Nation: France | Age: 25 | Position: Right Winger | Number: 7

Nenê ★★★★★★★★★★

Nenê scored amazing 21 goals in the league last season and together with Ibrahimovic he is one of the best players at the club to score goals and create goal opportunities for others. He can play as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 30 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Number: 10

Mathieu Bodmer ★★★★★★★★★★

Bodmer is a powerful player who likes to shoot from distance. But despite being strong and tall his passing and technique are top class and he could do a good job as a playmaker. He is a squad player.

Nation: France | Age: 29 | Position: Central Midfielder | Number: 12

Blaise Matuidi ★★★★★★★★★★

Matuidi is a defensive midfielder with mostly defensive qualities and is one of two specialized defensive midfielders. The other one is Sissoko. Matuidi should be instructed to stay back all the time and break up attacks. His good displays in the league last season has earned him a spot in the French national team.

Nation: France | Age: 25 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Number: 14

Clément Chantôme ★★★★★★★★★★

Chantôme is a player from the PSG youth academy and could be described as a box to box midfielder. He can also be a playmaker who dictates tempo when needed. Could develop further and earn himself a place in the French national team in the future.

Nation: France | Age: 24 | Position: Central Midfielder | Number: 20

Marco Verratti ★★★★★★★★★

Verratti is often compared to Italian legend Andrea Pirlo, both have some notable passing skills and are usually deployed as a deep-lying playmaker. Verratti will become a top class player and needs a lot of minutes on the pitch to keep progressing. Could easily become a fan favourite.

Nation: Italy | Age: 19 | Position: Central Midfielder | Number: 24

Adrien Rabiot ★★★★★★★★★★

Rabiot has been promoted to the first team squad and is a very exciting player with a bright future ahead of him. His strength is his heading, passing and technique. He is also very determined and should be given the chance to shine during the pre-season.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Central Midfielder | Number: 31

Javier Pastore ★★★★★★★★★

This is Pastore's second season at the club and last season he scored 13 goals in the league from an advanced midfield position. A good start to his career at the club. His technical ability is world class, so is his flair. Pastore is a player to keep at the club and not sell at any cost.

Nation: Argentina | Age: 23 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Number: 27

Thiago Motta ★★★★★★★★★★

Thiago Motta has played for Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Genoa and Internazionale before signing for PSG in January 2012. He is a physical player, good in the air, good at tackling and known for dangerous his long shots.

Nation: Italy | Age: 29 | Position: Central Midfielder | Number: 28

FORWARDS

There are currently 4 forwards in the first team squad.

Guillaume Hoarau ★★★★★★★★★★

Hoarau is a tall and strong target man who's very good in the air but lacks in other areas. He only scored 5 goals from 20 games in the league last season and must improve if he wants a new contract. Contract until 2013.

Nation: France | Age: 28 | Position: Striker | Number: 9

Ezequiel Lavezzi ★★★★★★★★★★

Lavezzi signed for the club in the summer from Napoli and will provide the club with some eye catching skills and movements. He's got great pace and flair, but he has to find the net more often if he wants to be a regular player in the team.

Nation: Argentina | Age: 27 | Position: Striker | Number: 11

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ★★★★★★★★★

Ibrahimovic is not only the best player at the club, but also the best player in the league and one of the best strikers in the world. He joined PSG from A.C Milan in the summer and could be used in many roles upfront. He is strong and could hold up the ball, or he could be make forward runs and try to finishing as much as possible. Ibrahimovic will guarantee 20-30 goals per season.

Nation: Sweden | Age: 30 | Position: Striker | Number: 18

Kevin Gameiro ★★★★★★★★★★

Gameiro didn't score enough goals last season to be regarded as a good signing. He sometimes lost his place in the team and didn't even came on from the bench when he was a substitution. As a backup for Ibrahimovic he is really good and can still produce goals.

Nation: France | Age: 25 | Position: Striker | Number: 19

The reserve team squad at Paris Saint-Germain has 25 players and plays in the Championnat de France Amateurs division, the fourth division of French football and the highest division the team is allowed to participate in. The division is open to the best reserve teams in France and amateur clubs in France, although only the amateur clubs with the most points of each group at the end of the season are eligible for promotion to the Championnat National. The PSG reserve team has never won the reserves title of the Championnat de France Amateur.

= PLAYER RATING

The player rating is a combination of a player's current ability and potential ability

assigned by club assistant manager Paul Clement.

GOALKEEPERS

There are currently 3 goalkeepers in the reserve team squad. Two of them will be posted here.

Alphonse Areola ★★★★★★★★★★

Areola has the potential to become a leading Ligue 1 goalkeeper in the future and has been compared to Genoa's Sébastien Frey. At his age he needs games to develop, so a regular run in the reserve team is good for him. Could also recommend to ask an older player at the club to take him under his wing and act as a role model.

Nation: France | Age: 19 | Position: Goalkeeper | Number: 16

Ronan Le Crom ★★★★★★★★★★

Le Crom was a surprise signing by PSG in January 2012 from AS Nancy. He still hasn't played a game, and is only here to fill a role as third choice goalkeeper at the club.

Nation: France | Age: 37 | Position: Goalkeeper | Number: 40

DEFENDERS

There are currently 8 defenders in the reserve team squad. Three of them will be posted here.

Diego Lugano ★★★★★★★★★★

With the quality available in the first team Lugano has been surpassed to the reserve team. He only played 12 games in the league last season and had a really poor season. Lugano is an charismatic leader, full of aggression, bravery, determination and strength, but at the age of 31 and lack of pace he won't be involved in the first team very much.

Nation: Uruguay | Age: 31 | Position: Central Defender | Number: 15

Alvin Arrondel ★★★★★★★★★★

Arrondel hasn't been involved in the first team much at all, and will spend another season in the reserves and try to gain experience and become a better player and compete for a place in the first team next season instead.

Nation: France | Age: 18 | Position: Central Defender | Number: N/A

Loïck Landre ★★★★★★★★★★

Landre is a powerful central defender, but can also play at right back, currently on loan at GFC Ajaccio in the Ligue 2. He is decent, just needs to improve during his loan and return back to the club as a better player.

Nation: France | Age: 20 | Position: Central Defender | Number: N/A

MIDFIELDERS

There are currently 10 midfielders in the reserve team squad. Two of them will be posted here.

Neeskens Kebano ★★★★★★★★★★

Kebano is on a season-long loan at Caen in the Ligue 2 and has a contract until 2016. There are many better players at his age, in his position at the club and he hasn't the potential to improve much more.

Nation: France | Age: 20 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Number: N/A

Jean-Christophe Bahebeck ★★★★★★★★★★

Bahebeck was a bright spark for PSG last season and played 8 games in the league. This season he is out on loan at Troyes in the Ligue 1. Bahebeck has the potential to become on of the better left wingers in the league.

Nation: France | Age: 19 | Position: Left Winger | Number: N/A

FORWARDS

There are currently 4 forwards in the reserve team squad. Three of them will be posted here.

Peguy Luyindula ★★★★★★★★★★

Luyindula has previously played for both Lyon and Marseille, before signing a contract with PSG in 2007. He also has 6 caps for the French national team and has scored 1 goal. This is his last season at the club, before his contract runs out in 2013.

Nation: France | Age: 33 | Position: Striker | Number: 8

Kalifa Coulibaly ★★★★★★★★★★

Coulibaly is 197 cm tall, strong and very good in the air - a typical target man. However, he hasn't any potential to improve and should stay in the reserves until his contract runs out in 2013.

Nation: Mali | Age: 20 | Position: Striker | Number: N/A

Nicolas Rajsel ★★★★★★★★★★

Rajsel is decent enough to keep his place in the reserve team, but he shouldn't be anywhere near a place in the first team, not even on the bench.

Nation: France | Age: 19 | Position: Striker | Number: N/A

Mike Maignan ★★★★★★★★★★

Maignan has a bright future ahead of him. He's one of the best goalkeepers in Europe at his age and has a lot of potential. However, he needs a mentor, someone who can be is role model and help him to develop.

Nation: France | Age: 16 | Position: Goalkeeper | Number: N/A

DEFENDERS

There are currently 10 defenders in the reserve team squad. Two of them will be posted here.

Dylan Batubinsika ★★★★★★★★★★

Batubinsika could become a decent Ligue 1 player, he has the potential to develop. It's still early in his career.

Nation: France | Age: 16 | Position: Central Defender | Number: N/A

Stéphane Lambèse ★★★★★★★★★★

Lambèse has the physical part of the game but not the mental and technical parts. He's on athlete playing anywhere on the right flank - right back, wing back, right midfielder or a right winger.

Nation: France | Age: 16 | Position: Right Back | Number: N/A

MIDFIELDERS

There are currently 9 midfielders in the reserve team squad. Four of them will be posted here.

Franck Bambock ★★★★★★★★★★

Bambock is a determined central midfielder with decent teamwork and work rate. He has to make a major improvement if he want a future at the club.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Central Midfielder | Number: N/A

Romuald Lacazette ★★★★★★★★★★

Lacazette is one of the best U19 players and is a decent player for his age. His potential though is not as good as many other players at the club and he will find it hard to push himself in to the first team squad.

Nation: France | Age: 18 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Number: N/A

Abdallah Yaisien ★★★★★★★★★★

Yaisien is an interesting young technical player full of flair and skills. His best role is as an attacking midfielder, but can also play on the right wing. His main weakness is he's not a team player and is not working hard enough for the team.

Nation: France | Age: 18 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Number: N/A

Kingsley Coman ★★★★★★★★★★

Coman is another player full of flair and skills, and his potential could lead to him becoming a leading Ligue 1 attacking midfielder in the future.

Nation: France | Age: 16 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Number: N/A

FORWARDS

There are currently 3 forwards in the reserve team squad. Two of them will be posted here.

Hervin Ongenda ★★★★★★★★★★

Ongenda is the most exciting young player in the U19 team. His potential is enormous. He's not very physical, but he's got pace and he's got some much needed technical attributes like finishing, dribbling, first touch and technique to help him on his way to the top. He's also determined. Contract until 2014. Renew it.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Striker | Number: N/A

Alexis Sainrimat ★★★★★★★★★★

Sainrimat has the potential to become a good player, but as a striker he isn't good enough at scoring goals and could be trained to a new position. He could be a decent right winger.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Striker | Number: N/A

squadanalysis.png

Paris Saint-Germain has a total of 74 players, all squads together. The squad is now a mix of world class players, rotation players, hot prospects and players with no future at the club. In this squad analysis we will take a closer look on who is needed and who is not needed.

GOALKEEPERS

The club has a total of 8 goalkeepers and I would say this is a position not needed to be strength. First of all, Sirigu who was signed from Palermo is a very good goalkeeper and did some excellent saves last season - he has actually earned himself a place on the Italian national team thanks to his recent performances. Douchez and Le Crom are both decent backups. Both are experienced and won't demand regular first team football. The future of the club looks bright with 19 years old Areola in the reserve team and 16 years old Maignan in the U19 team. Both are excellent prospects. No signings are required. However, if a world class player becomes available - someone like Buffon, don't hesitate. Sign him.

Key Player: Salvatore Sirigu | Hot Prospect: Alphonse Areola | Not Needed: Ronan Le Crom

RATING: ★★★★★★★★★★

sirigu.png

DEFENDERS

The club has a total of 26 defenders in the squad and even though PSG hasn't one of the best defence in Europe it's a large first team squad and all positions are covered really well. Maxwell is the best left back at the club, But he isn't a top class player like Clichy or Marcelo and should be replaced in the next seasons. The captain, Jallet, is a good team player but just like Maxwell he lacks a bit of quality. The new signing from Ajax van der Wiel could also play at right back and looks like a very exciting player. Thiago Silva is one of the best central defenders in the world, and the question is who should partner him in the defence, Alex or Sakho? Both are good players. Armand, Camara and Tiéné are decent backups.

Key Player: Thiago Silva | Hot Prospect: Stéphane Lambèse | Not Needed: Diego Lugano

RATING: ★★★★★★★★★★

thiagosilvaj.png

MIDFIELDERS

The club has a total of 29 midfielders and this is an interesting part of the team. The midfield can be organized in many different formations. Many players are capable of playing down the flanks and many players are capable of playing in the middle of the pitch. Pastore is one of the best midfielders at the club and should be playing in an advanced midfield role and be scoring goals. Chantôme, Bodmer, Thiago Motta, Matuidi and Sissoko are some other good central midfielders. The two youngsters in the first team - Rabiot and Verratti are both very promising and should get many minutes on the pitch. Ménez and Nenê are two attacking players and will produce assists and goals. Don't forget to update you with the latest news about Bahebeck's season-long loan at Troyes. I wouldn't say some special player are needed, but a new signing will always strengthen the team. Maybe another winger.

Key Player: Javier Pastore | Hot Prospect: Marco Verratti | Not Needed: Everton Santos

RATING: ★★★★★★★★★★

pastorez.png

FORWARDS

The club has a total of 11 forwards but mostly of them will never be good enough to be a part of the first team. Some new players may be needed. Especially young players. Ongenda is the only promising striker from the U19 team. With the financial backing PSG shouldn't have any problems in securing some of the worlds best young strikers. When it comes to the first team Ibrahimovic is the biggest star - one of the best strikers in the world. He will score goals, and many of them. Gameiro is another striker in the first team, he's got pace and an eye for goal. The third natural striker in the first team is Lavezzi. These strikers should be enough if you play with one striker on top, but if you play with two or more signings are required. Insigne from Napoli reminds a bit about Lavezzi and is an interesting player. So is Ba from Newcastle.

Key Player: Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Hot Prospect: Hervin Ongenda | Not Needed: Peguy Luyindula

RATING: ★★★★★★★★★

tacticalanalysis.png

It is important to play with a tactic that can win games and make the supporters happy. Paris Saint-Germain doesn't have the players to play counter-attacking football, instead they have the players to play the ball on the ground and control games. Pastore, Thiago Motta and Verratti are that kind of players.

FORMATIONS

Paris Saint-Germain wants play possession football and the 4-3-2-1, the 4-1-2-1-2 and the 4-5-1 formations fits the club perfectly.

formation432141212451.png

4-3-2-1

Sirigu - Maxwell, Silva, Alex, Jallet - Matuidi, Verratti, Thiago Motta - Pastore, Lavezzi - Ibrahimovic

The 4-3-2-1 formation will guarantee domination in the centre of the pitch. It has a flat four-man defence with two central defenders and two fullbacks, then it has three central midfielders, two attacking midfielders and a striker. The fullbacks could be very attacking and providing support down the flanks, or they could stay back and always be available for a pass. The three central midfielders is the controlling part of the team. They decide the tempo of the game and should play short passes and not be to attacking. Verratti could be assigned to a deep-lying playmaker role. Matuidi is the one of them who break down attacks. The two attacking midfielders will support the lone striker and will always try to create goal opportunities. Nenê is also perfect for this role. The striker should try to stay in his position upfront and always be available for a pass. Almost like a target man.

4-1-2-1-2

Sirigu - Maxwell, Silva, Alex, Jallet - Sissoko - Thiago Motta, Verratti - Pastore - Gameiro, Ibrahimovic

The 4-1-2-1-2 formation will also guarantee domination in the centre of the pitch and is called a diamond formation. It has a flat four-man defence with two central defenders and two fullbacks, one defensive midfielder, two central midfielders, one attacking midfielder and two strikers. The fullbacks should be instructed to make forward runs often to give support on the flanks. The defensive midfielder here is Sissoko - a big physical player who sits just in front the central defenders and stop attacks. The two central midfielders, in this case Thiago Motta and Verratti, should be deep-lying playmakers and support the three attacking players with through balls. The attacking midfielder could have a free role and roam around and be looking for space. The two attackers could be one strong and one fast, one coming deep and the other one making forward runs.

4-5-1

Sirigu - Maxwell, Silva, Alex, Jallet - Sissoko - Bodmer, Verratti - Nenê, Ménez - Ibrahimovic

The 4-5-1 formation is a good choice when attacking wingers are playing like Nenê, Ménez and Lavezzi. It has a flat four-man defence with two central defenders and two fullbacks, one defensive midfielder, two central midfielders, two wingers and one striker. With three midfielders playing in central roles it should be easy to control the game against teams with only two central midfielders, and with two fullbacks and two wingers attacks will be created on the flanks. One of the two central midfielders should be able to make forward runs and support the lonely striker. Pastore could also play in that position.

transfertargets.png

All teams needs to be strengthen and with the transfer budget available at Paris Saint-Germain signings new players shouldn't be a problem. The owners from Qatar and the PSG supporters demands success on the pitch, and to succeed on the pitch - new quality players may be needed.

= PLAYER RATING

The player rating is a combination of a player's current ability and potential ability

assigned by club assistant manager Paul Clement.

FRANCE

The following players are transfer targets based in France.

Mathieu Debuchy ★★★★★★★★★★

Even though he will only be sold for a very high price, spending money on the best right back in the league may be worth it. Debuchy is also a part of the French national team and could be described as a defender capable of both attacking down his flank all day long. Great stamina.

Nation: France | Age: 26 | Position: Right Back | Club: Lille OSC | Value: £8.25M

Yann M'Vila ★★★★★★★★★★★★

M'Vila is a relative young player, but already a part of the French national team and he operates as a defensive midfielder who possesses excellent defensive abilities and impressive physical strength. A lot of European top clubs will try to sign him in the first season, but he won't go cheap. He's worth the money, but maybe signing a defensive midfielder isn't the priority at PSG the first season.

Nation: France | Age: 22 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Stade Rennais | Value: £7.75M

Alexandre Lacazette ★★★★★★★★★★

Lacazette is one of the most exciting young strikers in the league and plays for Lyon - another top club in the French league. He has a lot of pace and is a technical player with flair and skills. Can also play on the left wing. It's only a matter of time until he's regularly called up to the French national team. It's highly recommended to try to sign him, if possible.

Nation: France | Age: 21 | Position: Striker | Club: Olympique Lyonnais | Value: £6.25M

Kurt Zouma ★★★★★★★★★

Only 17 years of age and already a starter for his club Saint-Etienne. Zouma can turn into a beast under a good management. Already got fantastic physical attributes and all other attributes needed for a central defender as well. Zouma will be a star.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Central Defender | Club: Saint-Etienne | Value: £4M

Yassine Benzia ★★★★★★★★★

Benzia is another good youngster coming from Lyon where he is highly rated, and rightly so - for a 17 years old striker he has very good attributes and will most likely be on the bench for Lyon a lot of times the first season. Could be the next Karim Benzema.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Striker | Club: Olympique Lyonnais | Value: £3.1M

Soualiho Meité ★★★★★★★★★★

Meité is a very physical defensive midfielder, big and strong, from Auxerre's famous youth academy. Not a player for a top Ligue 1 team, but maybe for a top team in Ligue 2. He needs one season until he's ready.

Nation: France | Age: 18 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Auxerre | Value: £1.8M

Massadio Haïdara ★★★★★★★★★★

A French physical left back with great pace and acceleration. He could become a very good left back in the league for Nancy. Needs to improve his defensive attributes.

Nation: France | Age: 19 | Position: Left Back | Club: AS Nancy | Value: £3M

Diacko Fofana ★★★★★★★★★★

Fofana is a highly rated right back wanted by some of the big Europeans clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, and at the age of 17 he already has the physical side of the game, but needs to improve his mental and technical sides. With some tutoring he could become one of the best right backs in the league in the next 5 years.

Nation: France | Age: 17 | Position: Right Back | Club: OGC Nice | Value: £1.5M

EUROPE

The following players are transfer targets based in other leagues in Europe.

Christian Eriksen ★★★★★★★★★★

Eriksen is only 20 years old, but is already an established player in Europe for Ajax and for the Danish national team. He has a lot of potential to improve and will only get better. This is a player PSG should be looking to sign despite the quality already possessed in that position.

Nation: Denmark | Age: 20 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: Ajax | Value: £13M

Davide Astori ★★★★★★★★★★

Astori is a central defender who plays for Cagliari in the Serie A and is wanted by top clubs in Europe. He has a bright future ahead of him, despite being 25 years old. I think he will be a part of the Italian national team in the next few years.

Nation: Italy | Age: 25 | Position: Central Defender | Club: Cagliari | Value: £6.75M

Daniele De Rossi ★★★★★★★★★

De Rossi who plays for Roma is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Signing De Rossi would cost a lot of money and he will demand a huge wage, but it will be another world-class player joining the club and not a bad one.

Nation: Italy | Age: 28 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Roma | Value: £16M

Carlo Cudicini ★★★★★★★★★★

Cudicini is fourth choice at Tottenham and not needed by the club, but despite being old, 38 years of age, I think he could do a good job at PSG. Not as a player for the first team, but as a role model for younger goalkeepers.

Nation: Italy | Age: 38 | Position: Goalkeeper | Club: Tottenham | Value: £170K

Keisuke Honda ★★★★★★★★★★

Signing Honda could improve the merchandise sales in Japan and be positive for the bank balance, but Honda is a top class player and has proved himself in both the Netherlands and in Russia. Together with Kagawa he is one of the best players from Asia.

Nation: Japan | Age: 26 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: CSKA Moscow | Value: £11.25M

Alessandro Diamanti ★★★★★★★★★★

Diamanti is an attacking midfielder who plays for Bologna in the Serie A. He is also capable of playing on the left wing or as a striker, but I think he's best in the attacking midfield position. I am surprised no other top clubs have picked him up yet. He's a fantastic attacking player and has all the needed technical attributes to provide assists and goals when he plays. Despite being 29 years old, I think he's worth a chance in a top team and he would make a major impact at PSG.

Nation: Italy | Age: 29 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: Bologna | Value: £6.75M

Pär Hansson ★★★★★★★★★★

I think four stars is a little low for Hansson. He should do a good job for most of the Ligue 1 clubs and if he joined PSG I think he would take control of the backup position, behind Sirigu, amongst the goalkeepers.

Nation: Sweden | Age: 26 | Position: Goalkeeper | Club: Helsingborg | Value: £350K

Cheick Tioté ★★★★★★★★★★

Tioté is known for his crazy tackles and no-fear attitude on the pitch. With him in the side you are guaranteed yellow and red cards, but you also have one of the best physical defensive midfielders who will stop attacks and makes sure no one will leave the pitch unscratched. Big clubs will come in for him the first season and Newcastle must decide if they want to sell or not.

Nation: Ivory Coast | Age: 26 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Newcastle | Value: £12.25M

Sandro ★★★★★★★★★★

Sandro is a Brazilian defensive midfielder who plays for Tottenham in the Premier League. With the competition at his club in the central midfield regular first team football may be a problem sometimes and a cheeky bid could come in handy. This is the sort of player I would want at PSG. Highly recommended.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 23 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Tottenham | Value: £11.5M

Jores Okore ★★★★★★★★★★

Okore has an exciting future ahead of him and is currently playing for FC Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga. Other clubs are aware of his talent and will make bids in the near future. He's not good enough to compete for a first team spot at PSG the first season, but some games in the cups and some tutoring should be good for him.

Nation: Denmark | Age: 19 | Position: Central Defender | Club: FC Nordsjælland | Value: £700K

Demba Ba ★★★★★★★★★★

Ba made a major impact in his first season at Newcastle. He scored an impressive 16 goals in 34 games in the league last season. He's not only good at scoring goals, he's fast also and good in the air. He has a minimum release clause at £7M and is a PSG supporter. Highly recommended.

Nation: Senegal | Age: 27 | Position: Striker | Club: Newcastle | Value: £13.5M

Alessandro Matri ★★★★★★★★★★

Matri is a striker with pace capable of scoring goals and plays for Juventus. The competition for places at Juventus is tough and they have many good attacking players, so Matri will have to fight to keep his place in the team. I think he should be a quality signing.

Nation: Italy | Age: 27 | Position: Striker | Club: Juventus | Value: £9.5M

Bruno Martins Indi ★★★★★★★★★★

Feyenoord had a great campaign last season and Martins Indi impressed many top clubs in Europe with his defensive work. I think he needs another 1-2 seasons until I'm ready to bid for him. It's to early to say how he will turn out. But he has the potential.

Nation: Netherlands | Age: 20 | Position: Central Defender | Club: Feyenoord | Value: £2.7M

Adam Maher ★★★★★★★★★★

Maher is being tipped as one of Netherlands next big superstars and has already attracted top clubs in Europe. He can easily play for one of the top clubs in Ligue 1 and make an impact right away. He's that good.

Nation: Netherlands | Age: 18 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: AZ | Value: £3.5M

Mattia Destro ★★★★★★★★★★

Destro is a striker who plays for Roma on loan from Genoa. He has a bright future in Italian football and I think he will be one of their best strikers in the next 10 years. Lets hope he has a good season at Roma and improves further, and maybe he's available for a transfer next season.

Nation: Italy | Age: 21 | Position: Striker | Club: Roma (on loan from Genoa) | Value: £3.5M

Alessandro Florenzi ★★★★★★★★★★

Florenzi is another exciting player from Roma with bags of potential. I doubt Roma wants to sell him, but it's worth having a look at him now and then to see if he's available.

Nation: Italy | Age: 21 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: Roma | Value: £3M

Lorenzo Insigne ★★★★★★★★★★

Insigne is an Italian striker who plays for Napoli in the Serie A. Last season he was on loan at Pescara in the Serie B and scored 18 goals in 37 games. He returned to Napoli for the 2012-13 season, filling the void left by the departure of Ezequiel Lavezzi who joined PSG. I think Insigne is a young exciting player and would be a good signing by PSG. Highly recommended.

Nation: Italy | Age: 21 | Position: Striker | Club: Napoli | Value: £7.5M

Kara ★★★★★★★★★★

Kara is a Senegalese defensive midfielder who currently plays for Tromsø. He can be deployed as a defender, defensive midfielder or in the central midfield. Kara is a beast. As a player he is very physical and would have no problems adapting in the Ligue 1.

Nation: Senegal | Age: 22 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Tromsø | Value: £1.4M

Nicuşor Stanciu ★★★★★★★★★★

Stanciu is a Romanian hot prospect with a lot of potential who plays for Vaslui in Romania. He can play in any attacking position but he prefers to play on the right wing to cut inside.

Nation: Romania | Age: 19 | Position: Right Winger | Club: FC Vaslui | Value: £600K

Andriy Yarmolenko ★★★★★★★★★★

Yarmolenko was once praised by Andriy Shevchenko who noted his qualities of good physique, shot, and especially his speed. Yarmolenko plays for Dynamo Kyiv and can play on both wings. I think he looks like a very good player with potential to improve further. Highly recommended if you are playing with wingers.

Nation: Ukraine | Age: 22 | Position: Left Winger | Club: Dynamo Kyiv | Value: £9.5M

WORLDWIDE

The following players are transfer targets based in leagues Worldwide.

Neymar ★★★★★★★★★

Neymar is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Santos in the Brasileirão Série A and the Brazilian national team, mainly as a striker. He is known for his acceleration, pace, dribbling, and finishing. His playing style has earned him critical acclaim, with fans, media and former players drawing comparisons to Argentine forward Lionel Messi. Neymar is wanted by some of the best clubs in the world and it would take a very big offer for Santos to accept a bid. Highly recommended.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 20 | Position: Striker | Club: Santos | Value: £21.5M

Elkeson ★★★★★★★★★★

Elkeson who plays for Botafogo is an attacking midfielder but can also play as a striker and is a typical Brazilian player full of flair, technique and pace.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 22 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: Botafogo | Value: £4.3M

Leandro Damião ★★★★★★★★★★

Leandro Damião is one of the best goalscorers in South America and has been heavily linked with clubs in Europe. He would be a good signings for any club, but he won't go cheap.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 22 | Position: Striker | Club: Internacional | Value: £17.25M

Felipe Anderson ★★★★★★★★★★

Felipe Anderson is a talented young Brazilian playmaker who plays for Santos. He has good passing, creativity, dribbling, flair and physical attributes.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 19 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: Santos | Value: £1.3M

Jádson ★★★★★★★★★

Jádson has all the attributes to be a major impact in Brazilian football. He can defend, he can attack, he got pace and good stamina. His best position is as a defensive midfielder and to stop attacks. He anticipate the game very well and knows how to hit a pass. Highly recommended.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 18 | Position: Defensive Midfielder | Club: Botafogo | Value: £1.3M

Otávio ★★★★★★★★★

Otávio could play either as an attacking midfielder or as a striker and plays for Internacional in Brazil. He is regarded as one of the best youngsters currently playing in Brazil and despite being only 17 years old he's a part of the first team at Internacional. Full of flair.

Nation: Brazil | Age: 17 | Position: Attacking Midfielder | Club: Internacional | Value: £850K

LIGUE 1

Ligue 1 is the French professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the French football league system. Ligue 1 is one of two divisions making up the Ligue de Football Professionnel, the other being Ligue 2. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Ligue 2. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 38 games each totaling 380 games in the season. Most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played during weekday evenings. Play is regularly suspended the last weekend before Christmas for two weeks, before returning in the second week of January. Ligue 1 is one of the top national leagues, currently ranked fifth in Europe behind the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, the German Bundesliga and the Italian Serie A.

The league was inaugurated on 11 September 1932 under the name National before switching to Division 1 after a year of existence. The name lasted until 2002 before switching to its current name. The current champions are Montpellier, who won the first title of their history in the 2011–12 season.

COUPE DE FRANCE

Coupe de France is the premier knockout cup competition in French football organized by the French Football Federation. The cup competition is named after Charles Simon, a French sportsman who died while serving in World War I and is open to all amateur and professional football clubs in France, including clubs based in the overseas departments and territories. The final is played at the Stade de France and the winner of the Coupe de France qualifies for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. The current champions are Lyon, who defeated Quevilly 1–0 in the final of the 2011–12 competition.

TROPHÉE DES CHAMPIONS

The Trophée des champions is a French association football trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of Ligue 1 and the winners of the Coupe de France.

COUPE DE LA LIGUE

The Coupe de la Ligue, known outside of France as the French League Cup, is a knockout cup competition in French football organized by the Ligue de Football Professionnel. The tournament was established in 1994 and, unlike the Coupe de France, is only open to professional clubs in France, which play in country's top three football divisions, though only two professional clubs currently play in the Championnat National. The current holders of the cup are Marseille, who beat Lyon in the 2012 Final and became the first club to win the cup three times in a row.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

The Champions League is an annual continental club football competition organised by UEFA since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. It is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world and the most prestigious club competition in European football. The tournament consists of several stages. In the present format, it begins in mid-July with three knockout qualifying rounds and a play-off round. The 10 surviving teams join 22 seeded teams in the group stage, in which there are eight groups of four teams each. The eight group winners and eight runners-up enter the final knockout phase, which culminates with the final match in May. The reigning champions of the competition are Chelsea, after beating Bayern Munich 4–3 on penalties, following a 1–1 draw after extra time.

chelseafu.png

Paris Saint-Germain are competing in Europe's elite competition for the first time since 2004 after finishing second in Ligue 1 last season.

FUTURE TRANSFER

During the Summer of 2012, both Manchester United and Internazionale were reported to be interested in signing Lucas Moura. In August 2012, Paris Saint-Germain won the battle and announced the player would be moving to the club in January 2013. He would be the clubs most expensive signing and the transfer fee was reported to be in the region of £37.5M.

"The value and impact of my transfer only increases my responsibility. However, I'm happy that the transfer has now been completed. It shows my work was good and now, I have a lot of work to do to arrive in Paris in good condition and meet expectations. I want to organise things calmly, I will have plenty of time to organise my departure to Paris. I will also begin French lessons so that I don't arrive there unable to understand anything."

- Lucas Moura

lucasmoura.png

Lucas Moura will be the fourth non-EU player at the club when he joins in January 2013. The other three are Alex, Maxwell and Thiago Silva.

START A NEW GAME

Finally it's time to start a new game and begin your adventure with Paris Saint-Germain on Football Manager 2013. I recommend you to load many leagues, especially leagues from England, Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Belgium and Portugal. Don't forget to load all leagues in France - in this way your reserve team will play in the lowest league that's loaded. It's up to you who you want to sign and sell, but why not invest the money in some of the worlds best youngsters? Some new coaches and scouts are also needed. And also, take care of Adrien Rabiot, Marco Verratti and Hervin Ongenda. Good Luck! Allez Paris!

Superb as always, MrSundlofer! Really happy you decided to do the thread this year, and I must say, you've outdone yourself!

Anyway, I won't be starting my annual PSG save until the retail copy is released, as it is currently unplayable due to some of the bugs (understandable, it is a beta, after all).

Can't wait until it is released!

Great thread again this year , you should include Falcao in transfer targets , according to Guillem Balague PSG are the only club willing to pay the buy out clause in his contract and a deal could happen in January . Top thread will look forward to starting a PSG save when i get the game
