FM18: Hidden Gems

Saunders played very well for me in multiple saves with Envigado on FM17. Different level of competition, though, obviously.

Matteo Stoppa from Novara looks like a promising young striker.  He's 16 at the start of the first season so can be picked up for £525K compensation.  This is him after about 6 months in - developing nicely!

Is there a better RB than TAA in the game? Looks like someone is taking the ****.

You think he's the best in the game with his 13's in every key area? i'd say there are probably 50+ better...

13s in every key area (and 15 for crossing) alongside an overall incredibly well-rounded set of attributes at the age of 18 definitely make him amongst the best right backs in the game.

If he was attainable (which I very much doubt), i'd be looking to sign him every file!

Amongst the best prospects in the game certainly... amongst the best rightbacks period? no... well rounded stats don't make a player great in his position, it's a jack of all trades, master of none situation.. and 13's don't make an elite player.

Agreed but presumably, he's got PA set that will ensure many of those 13s grow fairly considerably - like I say, he's only 18. Admittedly, I have a heavy bias towards youth in FM but i'd start him over all but a few right-backs from the off, though perhaps my favour for a fluid style influences that somewhat. As a general rule of thumb, I look at players thinking 'would he make a good central midfielder?' when looking at full-backs as i'm not a fan of the typical 'all pace and stamina' approach many have to the position. TAA fits that brief brilliantly.

In any case, i'd cheerfully have him as a well-rounded utility man - his versatility is another big plus IMO.

Anyway, onto more important matters; you're usually the best poster here for unearthing hidden gems - found many yet or waiting until the full release?

Completely agree, he's a great utility man for sure, and bound to improve to a point where he'll be a top player eventually.

Haven't had the time to play as much as normal yet.. that along with not having a decent laptop to play on currently..

Plan to rectify that before xmas though hopefully.. that said, the ones found so far in here are great, really enjoying seeing people find the more obscure ones.

That's what it's all about, for me. Love scouring the database for talent in the more arcane settings.

Found a couple of interesting-looking central defenders in Montenegro when having a scan last night - Nemanja Cavnic and more excitingly, 17 year-old Milos Drincic. Doubt either will be top-class but both certainly capable of developing into valuable for players Europe's mid-tier leagues/lower half of bigger leagues. Will post screenshots when I get chance. There's also an attacking full-back in the Thai national team (Bunmathan, I think his surname is) with a very nice spread of stats for that level but his wages/value are surprisingly high for the league he's based in.

Couple of Saudis look interesting too, especially Yahya Al-Shehri but similar tale to Omar Abdulrahman (who still has excellent creative stats in FM18) in the UAE - the price-tag and wages are a little steep.

He isn't the best in the game but he is one of the best RB without a doubt. For example comparing him with some of the best RB for wingback role.

The point has already been made to it's extent I believe..

But i'm not sure i'm seeing the same screenshots as you here because I don't see how they show him as one of the best...

But again for completion, he's a great prospect i'm sure, but by the time he gets there I guarantee there will be several other specialist wingbacks and fullbacks who outdo him by miles, he's a jack of all trades, but by no means a world beater as this stage in the game, and your screenshots help illustrate my point perfectly tbh.

just to reiterate the point here. TAA came up through the ranks at liverpool as a CM. he was only moved to Fullback in the last 18 months due to injuries and as he excelled there he's been kept in that position.

Him like Kimmich being a Natural CM most his life will have well rounded Stats but he will need to be developed as a fullback to become one of the best in the world. this will depend on the PA given to him in the game. If he gets a - PA then it will depend on how lucky you are. but given his performances since coming into the side you would have to say he is one of the best prospects at right full right now

Back to put this thread back on track (apologies for having a hand in taking it off course) , here is a few i've stumbled across in the short time i've played so far.

Nedelcu looks a fantastic utility midfielder, reminds me of Bazoer of fm's gone by...

FjZqWm3NRT6dCE4aPgQsMw.png

Bosnjak - will be a force if he can improve enough, but for his price, I think the time and effort is worth it.

-XIRe1K_TcaKq4O_MW8ZyQ.png

Delcroix - Belgium's and Anderlechts endless supply of talented defenders is boring I know...

VOuCwnAZT_yzWAjVhN-x5w.png

Kevin Mac allister - the wonderfully named argentinian has talent, but will it be wasted? not unlike the actor who played his namesake in Home Alone...

His key stats are comparable to the best RBs  and he is just 18.

Better dribbling and crossing than Carvajal, as good passer and overall better average technical stats than Carvajal. Same decision making too and just 1 point less in positioning.

Better dribbling and crossing than Kimmich,  just one point less in passing which is laughable as Kimmich is very good passer of the ball, as good tackler and overall better average technical stats. Better concentration and same positioning as Kimmich.

Better average technical stats than Trippier and as good crosser of the ball. Better concentration too.

Better crosser, as good dribbler and tackler as Walker, better average technical stats. Same concentration and much better decision maker, as good positioning, ass Walker.

Better crossing, passing than Semedo, same marking. Better average technical stats, same concentration and decision making, as Semedo.

Better dribbler and crosser than Aurier, better marking and average technical stats. Better concentration and decision making and also positioning.

Better crosser and as good dribbler as Meunier,, also  better average technical stats.

His average technical stats are better than all the mentioned RBs and we are talking about Carvajal too who is superb technically.

Not sure how anyone can argue that he isn't one of the best RBs in the game and that too at just 18.

Verstraete - Belgian powerhouse centre mid...

Coman - not the best, but a decent prospect for non elite teams I think..

Schlager - precocious talent, with driven personality and determination in spades, I like him... just the type I like to develop.

Rollheiser - I just love saying his name, but he also has talent.. plus he's a midget and a left footed right winger/forward with great stats, so there's that i guess.

Ellyes Skhiri (Montpellier), cheap versatile CDM who can also cover CM and CB. <£7.5m, got him to sign for £25k p/w. My scouts and staff do not rate him at all, but he has not let me down when Matic got injured for several months. Even covered at CB for a while.

Lucas Toussart (Lyon), £15m or so, young CDM/CM with great stats for the role and good mental attributes. Lyon initially will be reluctant to sell but I got him for that price in April or so with a future transfer set for the start of the 18/19 season. Could probably drive the price down more if you unsettle him I guess but I couldn't be bothered.

Frydek - not really here because I think he's amazong, but because he's ridiculous.. look at those positions he can play and those weird stats, must be random..

Another try and see type... no idea if he'd come good or not, but given anderlechts reputation.. probably:

Trondsen - the poor man's TAA in a different position .. not that far off TAA's ability and for a fraction of the price  ( I say this tongue in cheek, but it illustrates a previous point and he's a decent gem too)

Pretty sure his stats are hard-coded; there are some pretty odd profiles in the Czech Republic. Produces the odd gem, though - Marek Havlik of Slovacko looks particularly good, as does Frydek's younger brother, Christian.

Think a lot of the better Austrian prospects have random stats but Schlager, Hannes Wolf and Dario Maresic all appear to have high CA for their age so presumably all have scope to develop well.

While I see your point, you're now nitpicking stats to make him seem like the GOAT RB in game, when in reality he doesn't even start as Liverpools best (Clyne is, I'm about to start my second season and Clyne is still significantly better). Some of these stats are perfectly fine as well. Trent IS a better crosser than Walker. His pace is very mediocre at the start for a RB which almost alone makes most of the RBs you mentioned better than him at the start of the game. Besides crossing his stats really isn't more than that of an average mid-table RB in the start of the game. If you've seen him play this season, I'd say that's a fair description. Yeah he's 18 and a huge prospect, but that goes for real life as well. He's playing regularly for Liverpool and does a great job as well, his in game stats just reflects that.

Anyways, my scouts sent me this report of what I would call an absolute steal! I'm overloaded in midfield so won't buy him, but next save I make I'll have to try to get this dude in:

Bought Billiat on my Sporting save. A steal at £375k, be warned his agent pays an hard bargain. Request a min release clause of £1.4m and locks it in.

Try Mile Svilar from Benfica.

I picked up Svilar cheap in last years game for my United team (whilst he was still U20) and he is turning into a beast, now rotating him with De Gea in 2021/22 to give him more experience in the bigger games.

Anyone spotted a high-potential Sweeper-keeper? Not necessarily cheap but one who could be world-class in a few years.

Christian Fructl from Bayern - costs around £25-£30m at the beginning but stats are of a young Manuel Neuer.  Here an article about him:

He's also brilliant. Got a bid accepted for 4 mill but he didn't' want the move so loaned him and he's been the stand out player going forward

Another good one from the norwegian bargain basement: Internationalist Even Hovland have returned to his former club Sogndal after an unsuccessful spell in Germany, and looks like a great option if you're looking for a cheap defender.

Some random talents from my save.

Timo Bornemann. Looks like a decent striker in a couple of years. Will improve much.
Rene Rüther. Midfelder. Look him up.
Hakim Guenouche. French kid. Left back who will be good. I hope.

Does anyone have an idea of a striker, preferably not younger than 26 years old and that's not too expensive? :D I'm looking for a complement/back-up to Mariano on my Lyon save. Any suggestions are very welcomed!

Danilo at Braga still looks like a real steal.

Rafa Silva at Benfica is transfer listed for £6m or can be loaned as well. I tried to sign him on loan with a £5m option to buy but he chose Napoli instead. Good value for the money imo.

Danilo plays for Braga at the beginning of the game. Otherwise it can be hard to find him, because there are quite a lot people by that name.
