Youth intake preview season 3 (2026)

Our third season, and so our third youth intake preview. We've got a new HoYD: Demba Traoré. It looks like another good intake. I really hope we will get a new good goalkeeper. We now got 2 GK's. One of them is not good enough, but the lad is constantly demanding first team football. So I want to get rid of him.

My performances with IFK Lidingö are also picked up in my home country The Netherlands. Three clubs invited me for a job interview on the same day.

And last but not least: our start in Tier 2, Superettan Obos, was a good one. We lost the first 4 matches, but then finally won our first match against IK Brage. And as you can see, we won our last 3 matches before the Summer Stop (World Cup 2026). So it's a very good start of the season, better then expected. There is still a lot of football to be played, but I'm happy with this start.

Well, I just FM'ed GIF Sundsvall :D

I think is probably the first time I ever experienced such a match. They were way stronger, chance after chance. But we won the match, against the current nr. 1 of the league :D

What do you guys usually do in terms of friendlies? Do you play bigger sides to try and earn a little extra cash? Or go against tiny clubs to build up morale?

I had the same thing happen in my save. Ended up making a promise to 'develop youth players at centre-back'. Luckily it has not backfired. At least for now.

I usually end up stacking the schedule for money, but that only really works at the start of the save and in England. I also had my captain have the promise to "develop youth players at defensive mid." He threw a fit at the end of the season despite me starting 15 and 16 year olds there every game, so I guess they didn't have enough development for his liking. He got over being angry pretty quickley however.

I'm fairly sure it goes from the 'nation trained at' part of the players profile, everyone coming through your club will count. The money isn't awarded in the A.Bundesliga though, or wasn't last year.

I'm curious as to when people get further into their saves - and obviously with this challenge finances are really important - do you have any approach to wage structures? It's something I've suddenly realised is quite important in the lower leagues (any league really!)

Do you have any specific approaches to contracts? Just interested to hear different perspectives

Polish league has something called Pro Junior System, it's different than Austrian, not that profitable but if done with right approach it can give a nice money boost at the end of season. Basicaly it's a ranking of teams who played most minutes with U21 players. You can see details in league overview --> squad rewards. Only few best teams get rewarded (except teams who end up in relegation zone) but in YAC it's fairly easy to reach the top of this ranking. Here's how it looks money-wise for Ekstraklasa (top tier) in FM23 (I don't have FM24 so someone needs to confirm if it's still that way)

I think it's hard to have structured contract approaches. This challenge forces you to pay your best players as much as they want, since you can't afford to lose them without being able to buy replacements. The money you save not having transfer fees and generally having a low wage bill since your team is very young means you rarely have problems paying your players.

It can get a bit wild if your star player gets a big contract then everyone else wants new deals, but the key is to pay a higher base wage to get the longest term deal you can. That way if anyone complains, they still have 3+ years under contract and you can dismiss the complaint if you don't want to give a new deal

Just got the message again and I was only able to field a team with 12 Austrian players once, so my conclusion is that it takes into account only people that have Austrian citizenship. This is a bit dumb because I have Germans & Italians that qualify for the citizenship but do not see the point. Youngsters that are foreign tend to have both citizenships so I guess in a few seasons I will be able to get more money thanks to this.

Make the most of it before you get promoted, you don't get the money awarded in the top division (at least not in fm23), so I was bringing in significantly less income in the Bundesliga than I was in the 2.Bundesliga with Wiener Sport-Club last year.

But now I can't seem to add my manager to the French 4th tier. Does anyone else have this problem?

Not sure if FM24 is this way, but IRC in FM23 the 4th tier in France is viewable but not playable and you have to start in the 3rd Tier which is French National.

Well, I want to pay my players as little as possible, but still keep them happy. And I approach it differently based on where I am in the challenge. Initially, money can be quite tight, depending on what nation you play in of course, so I tend to be really frugal until my club is financially stable enough. I'll often let players leave if they want too much money, and I'll also release many players if I don't think they will develop. When I'm a bit richer and money isn't really an issue I will often try to keep my best player at any cost and I'll also keep youth players a bit longer to see if they develop a bit later on, especially if they have good personalities.

Man this is a different sort of challenge. You guys are special. This is the first time in 2-3000 hours of this game I've been sacked. Took over a newly promoted Aachen side in Germany and I don't think I could've planned a worse season. We started off with 3-4 wins early and I assumed we'd coast to a mid to high table finish.. Na. From that point on we won like 2 games for the rest of the season and we were relegated / I was fired.  Our striker, who was one of the better players on our team by all indications scored 3 goals all season.... 3. I wouldn't consider myself bad at this game either, I've won champions leagues all over, but I guess my strength has always been scouting / DoF work and bringing in the best value and talent out there. Throw that out the window.

It seems like once you lose the locker room you're cooked. Hard to come back. I had guys I would promote to the first team who would play in one game then demand regular starter minutes. Never run into that before. By the end of the season 6 or so of the 11 starters were requesting transfers.

I tip my hat to those of you that can make it far with this... guess I'll give it another go.

Im now running into this, my first intake striker Donal, is now opting to see his options - I am finding the key, is to have them in lower squads, U18's and Reserves, if you have injuries or give them minutes, adjust your squad filter, keep them in the lower teams, until they are bonafide starters if you are just giving them games, don't promote them from the first team, select them from the other sides.

I don't know if this will backfire on me as well, but im keeping all my players on Yth contracts even if they are playing 30 games a season, seems as though as soon as i've offered some of them 80-100 p/w they get unhappy with wages whereas on youth contracts they have no qualms about anything. In most of my other saves there is like a compensation fee for a buying team, so unless you produce a god, I am finding youth contracts give them 3-4 seasons of playing time before needing to actually sign them.

I've never done one of these either but its so rewarding.

Hey guys

I am now posting what is part of my write up as im working for the weekend so you won't get an update from me for at least 1/2 weeks.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WzdxnIKCEr6Nx6ODf1ax9jj7RUukOsJ5sDP503mpuKY/edit?usp=sharing

I wanna post this spiel to show this is how I have written the whole seasons and the same going forward.

2029/2030 Season Six - Danske Bank Premiership

Season Summary - League

I mean what can I say, we are so ahead of schedule, we are in the top division after 6 seasons, lets earn some money and go down? I will not be defeatist but we have been riding so many highs, so many highs, I'm still living off the treble we won in season 3. Providing the board will keep me if the ShTT hits the fan I will produce, I'm sure. That is not how football works. We didn’t get an amazing Youth Intake last year because I saw no talents, but I hoped we could do the same as last year and beat newly promoted teams and edge ourselves into safety again.

League Season Results: https://i.imgur.com/sRxzzGr.jpg

We got doubled deeked down all season, fans criticised me for my tactics, we set new records of winless I was not the messiah according to the game, do they not realise what I have done for this club? Anyway super hard went into relegation spots above the playoffs and ended in the playoffs - won against Carrick Rangers to survive, I hope I’ve got enough skin to graft off my ass for what happened this year because it's gonna happen again until we can at least turn pro and sell players.

Season Summary - Cups

I am sorry if you guys want more summary on this, I just wanna build a bank in the top league, survive, we don’t care about the cups, call us Tottenham Hotspurs.

Cup Season Results: https://i.imgur.com/DYwKLfh.jpg

Newry are in the league below but I don’t care, i'm trying to survive so youth team went in and got destroyed run ended: https://i.imgur.com/jdepgG4.jpg

Finances

I mean if you look at our finances season on season, I expected us to propel into pro status (1 Milli) but we still made profit, although, how many seasons do I need to suffer in Danske surviving relegation to actually make this team something? Regardless we are making profit and it looks like we need another 2-3 seasons for professional status. But taking a KitKat professional could also destroy me and the team see this: https://i.imgur.com/oZMgIFZ.jpg

Transfers

We got our axe out too all these Mo, Funky potentials, I did say I was doing a clear out so please look at the long long list of ex’s : https://i.imgur.com/sckIsRp.jpg

25 players are done.

Squad Overview

Ok so, we are getting stronger. But it's a double edged sword as always and it cannot be avoided. I want to make progress every season, basically call the squad plants that are dying for 90% of the squad. I’m gonna show you the overview but there has been only one player, our specialist, who I only played 3 seasons ago because he could do free kicks and corners. With constant game time he's now one of our best midfielders. I CANNOT AFFORD TO play youth players anymore like I could in the seasons below. Nothing we have is good, but I just need to keep our status. I am in disarray : https://i.imgur.com/PrcBLh1.jpg

I mean the squad is kinda improving, but kinda not. We’ve actually had some mad lucky regens but they might come through at the top of potential, then you have guys who have shTt personality that might be good and at the end of it all, we are a part time club we have no coaches, we aren’t professional and it's REALLY starting to show 2 years in the top.

Youth Intake Preview

Our first A ranking since season 2 or 3 I cannot remember but HELL YEAH baby, not sure if many will know the reference but im praying.

Youth Intake Arrival

If any of you are following this save like I am, crack out the top shelf spirits. Look at the state of this!

Northern Irish THOR: https://i.imgur.com/LUirUs5.jpg

Northern Irish Left Back: https://i.imgur.com/idzMObX.jpg

Thor though, better than nearly 3 seasons of Cody Blair, our best CB since HE came into the team at 15, now we got THOR.

Positive & Negative Review

I won’t lie to any of you, there are no positives this season.

I mean you can say Jim, you survived again, I would agree, but there is nothing to single out.

There are so many negatives this season I could write a book. I don’t want to do that to the viewers so I know that we got no green form from anyone. SO its shut down. Let's hope next year with THOR, gets us safety.

Going through Spain testing things. The season ticks over on 9th July. You can reload the save and get different teams promoted from 23rd June because of the playoffs in the 2nd and 3rd tiers of Spanish football.

Attempt1.png.466b41e77e6bc8a9a4f4ffcee8345c56.png

This was attempt 1

Attempt2.png.e09bdab88e1cb7d274404b7d8754dfea.png

This was attempt 2. There are a lot of teams that got promoted again, but there are some differences.

Hope this was useful to be able to be added to the front page. @darren1983

I'm interested in knowing what is everyone's course of action when it comes to a youth player first contract.

What I have been doing as a semi-pro club in England is offering the players a part-time contract as soon as they show up in the youth intake day. I'm not sure if this is the optimal choice seeing how I'm only able to offer a 1 year contract. (I add a +1 year optional extension clause though, so essentially it's 2 years).

---

Decided to take a closer at what's going on in my save, and just learned something new: It appears that the younger players in the youth intake are given 1 "extra" year. Let me show some examples so it's easier to understand:

In the first intake in April/2025, the players born in 2009 ended up with their contracts expiring in June/2027, even though in-game it says "1 year" (11 months in this case, but it varies based on their birthday):

LwRfdbr.png

This probably happens because they are too young and need to wait until their (17th?) birthday to sign the contract.

The older players, born in 2008, ended up looking like this:

zKQA1Ld.jpg

Again, this is in England, so I'm not sure if any of this applies to the other leagues in the game. But it looks like you can get 3 year contracts (2+1) straight away on the younger players of the intake, and 2 (1+1) for the older ones.

Cup Performance: Runner Up

Furious to lose the Cup on penalties after we couldn’t score in regular time after absolutely dominating the game. We missed a penalty during the match and had a goal called back by VAR.

North American Champions League:

2044 - 2nd Round

We pulled out a surprise draw in Mexico! It was our WB-R who got the goal, which was a rare sight. Carrillo is still mad we didn’t sell him, so unsurprisingly he wasn’t his usual self.

Unfortunately, they punished us at home when our young defenders made errors they capitalized and our strikers under-scored. Damn transfer-window upset our star. We were competitive, which is the objective for the next couple years as we develop our youngsters.

I’m letting him go on a free this summer but Barry Hoyte has been great for us as a CM and WBR. More importantly he’s broken 100 CAPs for Barbados as a key part of their midfield. He was good enough to keep in the team, but I’d rather play the high potential U18 players than continue a 30 year old squad player.

Been looking around seeing if there are any big takeovers and Big Players FC in St Lucia got a Tycoon takeover. Unfortunately for them they can’t do anything with it as the current system doesn’t let them qualify for NACL/CCC without V50s modfile. So they are sitting on tons of money. Biggest surprise to me is they are 7 years on from the takeover and are still flush with cash.

Just need to get my board to be cool with foreign affiliates. Even with 2.5* Rep any attempt outside of Barbados fails. One day…

Top 3 Players:

We got 3 Very promising Players all of whom are either footed with right dominant which is interesting.
Best of the three is another Striker, but unlike my other players this guy is either footed and a Giant at 6’6”! He's also Fairly Ambitious so I see him increasing that potential and maybe even the height.

I was talking about needing a CM-D and I got a great mental set up on this DM. He will go into the first team rotation for that CML-D.

Third is another CM who isn’t quite good at anything yet with poor natural fitness. Probably won’t make it into our team with so many other young CMs progressing well.

Barbados National Team:

World Cup Here We Come!!!

Ignore that -10 GD 😊 Carrillo is the top scorer in the NAM WCQ with 11 goals. Pretty sure that also includes the 4 pre-qualifier games to get into the WCQs.

So I think it's a fair statement that Mexico is better than Barbados considering they outscored us 20-1 in just 3 matches. Those matches aside, Barbados put up some awesome performances against Central American teams to advance out of the Gold Cup Group stage and even more miraculously advance ahead of Haiti and Panama in the WCQ!

This is a beautiful sight. Can't wait to travel to China to see Barbados on the World Stage!

Summary

I had a Saint Lucian team get a rich backer in my game too (Platinum FC, appropriately. Their backer just withdrew support though, so their team of mostly expensive Jamaicans might be in trouble!). When you loaded your FM23 game did the Caribbean qualification not come over too? Mine did;

Haringey Borough - Review Season 2

We managed to stay up again, so can't complain even if we took a slight step back. In the beginning of the season, we were challenging for the playoff places. Once the goals dried up and we began our 21 game winless streak, things looked more dire. Luckily we we're able to bounce back against the relegation teams and secure our safety. Oddly enough, we managed to win away to league champions Southend, one of only 3 losses on the year for them. The youth from last year didn't really take steps forward, making me think it was just a lousy intake.

In other news, a rough time for Worthing as they fail to go up despite putting up 107 points. I've never seen such a top heavy league with 5 teams over 100 points.

Crashed out of the cups this year unfortunately. I'd say it gave us time to focus on the league, but we got to focus on the winless streak instead.

Temi contiues to carry us, winning the league scoring title this year.

Class of 2025 Update

Callum Graham 01a played in 20(12) games this season and had 7 assists. He hasn't developed much and is still too short to really make an impact.

I gave Rayon Messam 01j 16(10) matches despite his clear technical shortcomings. I figured a tall winger with pace can play regardless of the rest of the attributes and he repaid my faith with 3 goals and 5 assists and even a Player of the Match award.

Kenneth John 01d was the primary cover in midfield and left back, and he didn't really perform well. Got 15(9) appearances and improved a little.

The star of the bunch was actually the Class of 2024 youth who came through the intake in the holiday year. Brian Inglis made 38 appearances, mostly starts, and averaged a 6.83 rating while developing nicely and just turning 18.

A better intake this time around, signed the tagged players and a few of them have the potential to break into the first team in a couple years.

Managed to secure 2 more coaching courses, but no other upgrades. Finances look secure as our payroll is still relatively low and will only decrease next season.

Nothing in, but star keeper Dillon Barnes left before the season ticked over to join Dag & Red, where he earned 16 shutouts in the VNL.

Great 2nd season. Please share how you’re playing, if you don’t mind, I am always interested in the football part.
funny the winger with TEC 1 I am almost missing the days.

If you just wait until they play the candidate game and sign them, you get them on a youth contract that lasts until they are like 19, that was my new CB from this intake.

image.png.ac4f8ab7ec6b2dd7fc43b2ff3f37c5d9.png

Until I was promoted to the top divisions I was playing all my youth players on 1 p/w.

He's on 10 p/w for 3 years and as they are under contract it appears I am able to decline offers on them.

So I only offer a contract after this youth contract if they are worth signing.

I am sure this has been discussed, but are there any good facepack for regens out there?

I'm using the facepacks from "View From The Touchline".
