  1. South Shields Season Summary 2027-2028 Our first season in League One, and it was a good one. We started the season absolutely fantastic, unbeaten in the first 7 games, but after this we settled down and finished on a solid 13th place. We were top half of the table for most of the season, but around February it was obvious that making the playoffs was unrealistic. We introduced a few youngsters into the team this year. Derek Trodd, Godwin Uzo and Max Dempsey all were regular starters and performed well. We have a great CB from this years intake, Gary Smith, and he might become a starter next year if his development continues. Our legendary striker Jason Gilchrist has had a fantastic career with us, winning several top scorer trophies during our rise up the league ladder. He is now 33 years old and this season he was out of his depth. 4 goals in 17 games, and if he decides to renew his contract, he will have a backup role. Hopefully we can do a little bit better next season and go far in the FA Cup, as we can really use the cash! 2. Really looking forward to reading your updates here. Completed the challenge last year with Real Jean, so this is a club close to my heart!!
  3. South Shields Youth Intake 2028 After a couple of dissapointing youth intakes, we finally got what seems like a good one! Four strong players in Gary Smith, Elliot Dunne, Peter Bradford and Enrico Peruzzi. All of them are players most natural in central positions and I think Gary Smith can fight for a first team spot pretty soon!
  4. A fantastic start to the League One adventure with South Shields. In fear of it not continuing I had to do a short update. We are unbeaten after 7 games, our only loss has been against Middlesbrough in the first round of the Carabao Cup. We lost 5-4 on penalties, dissapointing! The two best offensive players form last year, Bob Sterry and Eddie Sheridan, have been fantastic. Sterry has 4 goals and 1 assists, Sheridan has 7 goals and 3 assists (in 7 games from AMR!). I shifted the formation a bit from last season. We now play either in a "control" 4-2-3-1 wide or a "counter" 4-1-2-2-1. In the previous seasons we have played with an attacking right full back and an attacking inside forward on the left. That has been changed now, with the left winger being an inside forward on support and the left full back on attack. This has created great combination play down the left flank and some fantastic free crosses into the box, a huge key to our success this season (success after 7 games, lol). 6-7 of our first team players left at the end of the season. Some retired and some didn't get their contracts renewed. I have gotten quite good backroom staff, with 13 first team coaches and this has made me change my philosophy a bit. I decided to promote 5-6 youngsters and put them as either first team starters or rotation players. They develop nicely from really good coaching, and its time for a shift in generation! I have put two 18 year olds straight into the first team, both debuted on the first league game. This gamble has paid off, so far... We are entering a period now of tough games and we have unfortunately three players away on international duty, including both our left backs!! We also got our left winger injured for 4-7 weeks (yes, our physio is not great...) This will be tough, so I have to brag now
  5. South Shields Season Summary 2026-2027 Promotion! After two seasons in League Two we won promotion after to League One! Last year we finished 7th with 77 points, this year we finished 3rd with 79 points! Last season Plymouth finished 3rd and they got 89 points, so needless to say, I have been very lucky! And I think we are in for a very, very tough year in League One... We got knocked out in the 2nd round of the FA Cup against League One side Peterborough. We drew 1-1 at home and lost the replay 2-0. A big shame as the winner of the return leg got to play Man Utd at Old Trafford.. We never found any fantastic run of form this season, but at the same time we never found ourselves on a really bad losing streak and I would say we were overall solid. Our 4-2-3-1 formation lets us use our star youngster Rob Sterry as a shadow striker and he scored 15 goals and had 8 assists this year. Luckily he signed a new contract after the promotion, he only had one year left and I feared I would lose him. The best performer of the year was right winger Eddie Sheridan. 14 goals and 14 assists from AMR, and plenty of the goals came in narrow 1-0 wins. Our striker Jason Gilchrist have been fantastic for us, scoring a fantastic 160 goals in my first 6 seasons as South Shields manager. This year he only managed 18, and with so many league games and being my penalty taker as well that isnt to impressive to be honest. I might use Rob Sterry as a striker next season and change our formation, making the AMC a DMC instead. We finally have a decent goalkeeper. We have tried four different goalkeepers over the last few years, but this year 19 year old Peter Hards has stepped up and he is progressing nicely. Youth wise its terrible to be honest. The players I send out on loan are not getting any better, in fact they are getting worse! I always keep players in the club until they are 18, then I loan them out, but I am at a loss at the moment. I have basically nothing coming up.. Godwin Uzo is probably the top talent, but we already have a very good young left back. Can he become a good CB? We got big upgrades to facilities and youth department at the end of the season. How we are going to finance it is beyond me... The goal for next season will obviously be to avoid relegation. Rob Sterry has a relegation clause in his contract and I will 100% certainly lose him if we go down. 6. South Shields Youth Intake 2027 A disappointing youth intake. As always, we were promised a golden generation, but after countless of saves on the Youth Academy Challenge, we all know that is a promise easily broken! Matty Mooney is the only player with a decent challenge of making the first team I would say, but I'm not keeping my hopes up for him either. I have to say, playing this challenge in England is tough! With so many divisions to progress through it takes patience, as there is no money to invest in facilities with!
  7. I feel your pain @OneManSnipez. It took me 12 seasons in La Liga before I won it on FM19. And that was with a record low I think, 77 points!
  8. After a long time of speculation we have gotten new owners. They have pumped some money into the club, but they don't seem to want to change the club vision, which is a good thing.
  9. What a strange sacking! Seems like you did really well, far better than what could be expected.
  10. South Shields Season Summary 2025 - 2026 Our first season in League 2 and we got close to back-to-back promotions! We started the season in fantastic fashion, winning our first 6 games! After that we were uneven, but never left the playoff spots for the entire season. Only 3 wins in our last 13 games didn't bring a lot of momentum going into our playoff games against Notts County, but we managed to grab a 1-0 win at home. It could have been an even bigger win as we dominated most of the game. Four days later we travelled to the away game. An even start to the game gave some room for optimism, but Notts County got the opener after 38 minutes. They doubled their lead in the 49th minute, before having a player sent off after 58 minutes. For some reason playing with a one man advantage didn't see us put any pressure on Notts County and they even grabbed a third goal, winning the two game tie 3-1 on aggregate. This was fair enough, we had a really good opening campaign and hopefully we can push for a playoff spot next season as well! A three month injury to our first choice goalkeeper Bob McDermott saw us play 18 year old (now 19) Peter Hards for the last 7 games of the season. He has done okay, at least compared to our terrible GK standards, and has even seen his potential gone from three to four stars. He might just be our first choice for next year, but I am praying for a top GK talent next March! Our striker from the beginning of the save, Jason Gilchrist, just keeps delivering! He is 31 years old, finishing the season as top scorer with 25 goals! Him and Nathan Lowe have been our consistently best performers and as a bonus, they just dont get injured! Fingers crossed that stays the same next season! Our talents in the U18 and U23 are also coming along nicely. Some players have gotten valuable loan deals this season and will hopefully come back ready to contribute in the first team. In the U18 squad Max Dempsey has really improved this year and his potential has suddenly turned into 5 stars. My biggest hope is for Adam Lewis, I think he can become a really good CB. Some of our best players in the age group 19-21 are refusing to sign new contracts as they want to move on to bigger clubs. Bob Sterry, one of our best players, only has two years left and we need to consider a sale next summer if he refuses to put pen to paper. Goals for next season: Another ambitious push for playoffs. 11. South Shields Youth Intake 2026 Once again we were promised a top talented GK in the youth intake and once again that didn't happen. Time is really running out at getting a new GK as we have by far the worst goalkeeper in the league! At least we got what seems like a god talent in Derek Trodd. A brave hardworking central midfielder that I think has plenty of potential!
  12. South Shields Season Summary 2024 - 2025 Promotion! After three years making the playoffs in Vanarama National we had a breakthrough season, ending up winning the league! We finished on 96 points, 4 points ahead of Aldershot in 2nd. I posted earlier today that we lost top talent Bob Sterry, but after Reading put in a bigger bid we got the chance to cancel the transfer. He finished the season in great fashion and that seems like a good decision today. Our striker Jason Gilchrist had his best season so far, finishing the season with 35 goals! Unfortunately our finances are really bad and every year we get another loan from our chairman. This means no upgrades to facilities or recruitment/junior coaches. Hopefully we can manage to stay in League 2 as that should give us some more income. 13. South Shields Youth Intake 2025 I was told in the intake preview that we had a really talented goalkeeper on the way. That proved not to be the case and with the low quality of my current goalkeepers that was dissapointing! But thats how it is and at least we got what seems like a very talented central defender in Adam Lewis! Let's hope he can develop nicely over the next few seasons.
  14. This challenge can be frustrating and thats part of the package! Lack of depth in squad, bad youth intakes, general low squad quality etc. etc. But nothing is more frustrating than this!! We are top of the league in Vanarama National and the board decides to accept a bid for a key player, and for what? £205k and a training fixture against Hull! Oh wow, the mighty Hull is coming to town, who wants to attend that... Yes, it does have a 40% of profit from new sale, but I cant imagine that will be anything to celebrate..
  15. Finishing in 1vs1 situations seems to be a lot better. Espescially when the striker is chasing a ball between a FB and CB and then running with the ball at the GK. Before the patch those situations hardly created any goals (for me at least).
  16. @grff having a bad run of form in the Croatian league can be brutal. With so few teams you always have a tough game against Zagred, Split or Rijeka just around the corner!
  17. For me this is the biggest problem with the ME now. Playing in the Vanarama National League and the rest of the ME is actually pretty good I think. It does need work, but its not broken! I do get central play, I get through balls and my striker is scoring between 20 and 30 goals per season (3 star rating). I think it's difficult to get the AMC working properly, and most of the central play is created by my MC's, but its still there, and the team reacts to tactical instructions. But the set pieces, especially indirect free kicks are way too deadly IMO. I concede quite a lot, but also scoring a bunch! Also there is a bug where players change their position on defensive corners (Yes mods, I have created a bug report on it ).
  18. South Shields Season Summary 2023-2024 Another season, another playoff loss. This time already in the first round against Aldershot. We lost 1-2, but it could have been more. No complaints really, they are a better team than us and when we have to face them away in the playoff its a tough task. We played overall okey this season, but our striker Jason Gilchrist scored 20 goals, and even though thats pretty good he had 30 the year before. Hopefully he can find his goal scoring machine form again next season. Defensively we are getting better and better with Patterson and Ireland on the full backs. In central midfield Nathan Lowe once again proved he is the heart and soul of this team, finishing the league with a 7,37 avg. rating. His midfield partner, Arron Thompson, is more of a worry. Originally a creative player he has had the defensive role since I started the save, but it's not ideal for his skills. I might give his spot to an academy player next year and build from there. Goalkeeping position is still hopeless. McDermott went from 5 star potential and is now down to 3 stars... Unfortunately we couldnt get past the first round of the FA Cup, losing 2-0 away to League 2 side Wrexham. 19. South Shields Youth intake 2024 The intake preview in december promised a golden generation with top talent on the full backs, center backs and in midfield. Only one of them came through with a great left full back. Our current starter in the position is getting older and this was a fantastic addition to the team. Shane Ireland will go straight into the team and with Adam Patterson on right back, currently the best player in my squad at only 18, we have a bright future in those positions. Little bit dissapointed not to get a couple more future starters, but maybe Ronnie Kellett can develop into a good player. Too bad about his unambitious personality!
  20. Hi I've attached two photos. These are my defensive set piece instructions. They are the same, except for the AMR and AML switch on staying wide. I only want my AMR to stay wide, but the game keeps changing it. That is an issue, but the fact it also changes in defense is worse. As you can see I use my DCL, DRC and MCL in zonal marking. But every game, if i change from the tactic called "4-2-3-1 kontring" (kontring means counter in Norwegian and is my team mentality setting for the tactic) to the tactic "4-2-3-1 kontroll" my MCL and MCR changes position. This is really frustrating and leads directly to letting in goals. I can change it, but you know how it is, it's not something you always think about. I have not downloaded a set piece tactic btw.
  21. Possible to get feedback from a mod if this issue is beeing looked at? My defensive instructions on corners keep changing, without me doing anything. I suddenly have my smallest player marking zonal marking at the first post...
  22. Yes it should. But we are four months after release and player instructions on set pieces are still changed in the middle of a game without the user doing anything, we have shocking defending, most games are based on goals from set pieces etc. etc., so I wouldn't excactly keep my hopes up on any major changes to club vision...
  23. Agreed! But I went from the lowest level of youth recruitment, junior coaches and facilities to the highest level on all of these. Maybe except for youth facilities, those were upgraded that same season but not completed.
  24. Players keep changing instructions on defensive set pieces. My left winger goes from having an instruction to mark tall player and then when the game starts the role has been changed to stay up top with my striker... how is this a thing?
