What has happened to players labelled the new whatever? I mean, I get it in news reports: 'Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni has gone on loan to Coventry. Known as the new Michael Owen blah blah blah...'

But where can I see that in their profle, like I could before?

On the players profile and under the personal page. There is a part labelled Media Comparison if they are dubbed the new...

it's on their profile page, under the personal tab.. since i don't play the english version i'm not sure what it's called, but if i translate mine it's under comparison in media

Aha! I found one trawling through the Arsenal reserves, 'dubbed the new Rafael Alkorta'. Also found a 'Team-mate comparison' which is nice.

Out of about 20 'dubbed the next new...' in my entire FM career, I think only one has turned out as good as the comparison. I generally try to ignore the media comparisons if possible.

Unless its changed in recent versions the comparison is based on a players CA rather than his PA. So a youngster who develops quickly might get compared to someone but never progress beyond that level.

Has anyone ever had a regen who has been dubbed the new ... and it was another regen. Obviously this will only apply to games far into the future.

As I said above, I had a regen dubbed "the new Kaiser" but if I had any regen dubbed "the new Maradona" I would snap him up whatever the price, look at the past "Maradona"'s; Latorre, Riquelme, Pastrone, D'Alessandro, Messi, Aguero, Veron, Ortega, Saviola and Aimar. They have had various degrees of sucess but have never reached Maradonas heights!
