Favourite Football Manager Memory

Recommended Posts

Whats your favourite memory of football manager? maybe its a certain goal that won you something or promoted you? Or even a result? A player that was a bargain and a snatch? Or maybe just a feature that SI have/had included in the game?

Mine personally was when you could buy Modric at a price of 1.7mil :) think it was FM07 not too sure tho.

Some of mine here, some just memorable and not particularly nice!

Signed Valdir from Vasco for 8.5 million red card on debut, red card in second game and 18 month injury (fractured pelvis) in 3rd game.

Ross McNab scoring a 6 goals for my partick thistle team, all in the second half.

Robbie Fowler missing 3 penalties in on match.

and the best of all.

I was arsenal on a network game and in the champions league semi final i was turned over 7-0 by Barcelona in the first leg. In the second leg, their keeper got a red card early on and was replaced by a 'gray' player who was awful! They had another player sent off in the first half and the full time score was Barcelona 0 Arsenal 9 so I went through.

Quite a few for me, in no particular order!

1. Trouncing Barcelona 9-0 at the Nou Camp

2. Winning almost back to back promotions with FC United from the BSN to the EPL

3. The amazing 45 yard strike that sent me into the EPL with FC United, scored by the one and only Bernard Brennan :D (Visit my thread in the Careers forum for screenshots and his insane record!)

4. The 35 yard lob from Brennan that won me the EPL Title in my first season in the top flight with FC United

5. My son coming through the academy at FC United

6. A new stadium built named after me at FC United, costing £294m with 82,951 seats, a roof and undersoil heating.

7. And finally, the brace from Brennan in the Champions League Final the year after i won the EPL Title which meant i had completed Dafuge's Challenge :D

I can't pick between them all! :D

I won the champions league on 2008 with FH, of Iceland, 300-1 outsiders for the tournament, AC MIlan in the final were 1-33 favourites, and we were 50-1 outsiders, but we held on for the draw until full time, and then scored with 5 minutes to go in extra time, through a product of our youth academy. We held on for the last few minutes easily, with Milan bottling it every time they attacked. Such a shame I deleted that save game...

The next year we went out at the group stage, typical...

Championship Manager 01/02 - I took over West Ham in The Championship a complete state and managed to get them back into the Premiership and into Europe. My first signing on return to the Premiership was an unhappy Phillipe Mexes from Arsenal. I also manged to get Patrick Viera (best player on the game IMO) and Clarence Seedorf because of the unprotected contract rule.

On winning the Premiership Philipe Mexes came out and said that he thought I was "A World Class manager". I've never had that before or since. It was one of my greatest saves. I took West Ham to amazing glory with Mexes as my Captin and eventual Assistant Manager.

Getting promoted to Ligue 1 with Montpellier. In that save I set a rule for myself that I could not sign any player that I had ever signed in past saves. It took a wile to build my team b/c I had to do A LOT of extra scouting, but in the end it was very fun and extremely rewarding.

In a different save I set the same rule for myself when managing Werder Bremen and the moral of it was very much the same as my Montpellier save (fun, rewarding, etc). I was able to win the Bundesliga twice, a few cup wins, but no European honors. I came close one season where I made it to the semi-final. In that run I managed to beat Real Madrid in the first knockout stage that started the epic charge. I had lost the first leg at home 1-0 and went to Madrid, hoping only to come out with a respectable result. After being down 1-0 (2-0 on agg) for a large part of the match my players managed to pull of a late shocker (2-1, 2-2 agg, but the away goals saw us through).

A transfer listed player who had made only one other appearance in the CL, scoring a chip over Akinfeev in the last minute of extra time in the CL semis to send us into the final. We lost the final, but that semi was a monster and that goal was pure jump up and down, shack yo ass brilliance.

I'd say winning the Champions League with Norwegian minnows Hammerfest on FM2007 was my best memory. I chose Hammerfest because they were the most Northern team in the world which was playable at the start of the game. The started in the Second Division Group 4, which is the 3rd tier in Norway.

It took me 14 years, but watching the club grow from a semi-pro nobody with a 1000 capacity stadium, and most probably an ice rink of a training pitch, into European champions with a (still modest admittedly) 10,000 capacity stadium with state of the art training facilities, and a simply brilliant squad, was the most satisfying feeling I've had on FM.

It was frustrating at times as I struggled to get out of the 1st Division with the chairman selling off key players regularly, but I was rewarded in the end. Legends I had from that game such as my star striker Frits Jansen, incredibly loyal and world class goalkeeper Fabien Monnier, and the man who scored the winner in the final, Inaki Barba will never be forgotten.

I have a few of these (in no particular order):

1. Going 61 games unbeaten with Arsenal. It was such a fantastic effort and it was ended by Everton of all teams.

2. Finally obtaining 100 points with Arsenal in that same year. The first time I had ever gotten 100 points with a team.

3. Champions League final vs Real Madrid. 1-1 in extra time and Veloso fired home a 30 yard free kick to win the match. Veloso became my vice-captain after that match.

4. Another Champions League final vs Chelsea. It 1-1 in extra time and in the 115th minute, I took off Fabregas and Walcott and put on Ramsey and Tranquillo Barnetta. Barnetta skinned Ashley Cole, ran to the byline and cut back for Ramsey in the D, who slotted home the winner. Made me go nuts!

5. Wooping Real Madrid 4-0 at the Emirates.

6. Taking Southend United to the Premiership and winning the League Cup. Took me six years. Also, we reached the UEFA Cup semi's against all odds which is something I was immensly proud of. Too bad the game got corrupted :(

I had a young Brazilian on CM 01/02 (a regen) with awesome stats calle Nascimento. He was a AM/F C and he scored goals in his sleep from the age of 18. By 21 he was the best player in the world and had scored over 100 league goals in 3 seasons for my Spurs side.

One day I received a message saying 'Nascimento has been forced to retire from football after fracturing his skull'. I was so shocked and devestated that I just stared at my screen for hours. Heart-breaking but truly memorable and an example of why I love this game. :)

Yes I think you are right! I remember getting a couple of 18 and 22 month injuries for seemingly normal injuries! Ahh, memories...

either

A)being amazed at the age of 9 (CM01/02) at the level of detail for swindon town :)

B)Taking swindon to the prem.

C) playing around my mates house and taking fulham from the brink of relegation in dec to UEFA cup in one night.

D) watching my on loan striker miss a pen in his debut then imiediatley terminating the loan

E) Jasper Gronkjaer on CM03/04

F) Signing Alberto Bueno for swindon in league 1 for £6k then selling him 4 years later for £60m to real madrid. 100000% profit.

Playing as Rosenborg in FM07, taking on Arsenal for my 500th game in the UEFA Supercup.

10 years later, playing Arsenal for my 1000th game in the CL Final (and winning 2-1).

So many regens have been fond memories. My favorite was a Portuese guy who came up through the youth ranks to be the captain for 14 years. He played until 38. (I'm currently in 2031, and he's a coach).

My second favorite is a guy is a South Korean AMC I signed for free after his first year, who ended up becoming the best player in the world (won World Footballer twice in a row). He's about done at age 34.

4. Finishing a season unbeaten and only conceding 8 goals in CM4 with newcastle

5. Playing a game with my brother on Fm05 (or 06?) and when he was at the pub, gettin in a ****y because his Colocinni played P*ss and selling him for free!!! hahaha, my bro was not happy...

2 memories for me - Winning the champions league final with Arsenal scoring twice in the last 5 minutes :)

Then a career I started at Lyon winning back to back titles and cups, champions league semi final twice, then onto Valencia winning back to back La Liga titles, Champions League semi final again, then onto Juventus again winning back to back titles. But what was so pleasing was the team I built up at Juventus - Midfield was Robben, Palombo, A regen who seemed to be like an Italian Cesc Fabregas he was awesome! Messi, Ibrohimavic and Torres! Cant remember the back line think I had Barzagli but I was so pleased to build up that team....until my mother board died and I lost the save game :(

Loved reading some of these great thread!

Picture this...

FM07 as Chelsea, Champions league semi, 1-1 in the second leg, at home to Aston Villa (they were going through on away goals)... I throw on my 16 year old French regen, Stephen le Guen, going all out attack, he skins two defenders and sends in a scorcher from 30 yards in the 88th minute!!!!! I was screaming at the screen in ecstasy, lol...

He went on to be the club-record goal scorer, as well as one of my world-class coaching staff...what a sad day when he retired totally from the game! :(

I managed Feyenoord for 5 seasons, losing the Champions League final twice. Couldn't get the quality of players I wanted so i moved to England, only to see Feyenoord winning the Champion's League the next season, playing the final in the Amsterdam Arena. That was sweet :D

Craig Eyre.

Signed for £4k in League 1, he helped my Farsley team to EPL, Champions League and World Club Championship winners, as he scored over 200 goals in over 650 games.

His last few games really are fairytale stuff though.

In his last ever Farsley home game, he scored against Everton, to begin a remarkable farewell to football. But his last ever game really is unbelievable. It was the FA Cup final against Chelsea, and I decided to start him just for the sake of a great exit. We went down 1-0 just before half-time, and it looked like it was set to be a disappoining exit for Eyre. Yet as we entered injury time, we got an equaliser. Then in the last minute, our final attack saw the ball come to Eyre, who rolled back the years as he swivveled on a sixpence, and fired into the top corner. That was literally his last ever touch for Farsley, and it was just such a fitting finish to a remarkable career. That is really what football's all about. The news articles about his retirement were also surprisingly touching.

probably winning the CL final 8-3 in CM 99/00 with a Real Madrid team that included Andri Sigporsson, Allan Borgvardt, Joe Cole, Simon Davies and the mighty Paul Dillon

Willie Howie scoring at hatrick in the last game of his first season in Serie B as Sampdoria secured promotion to take him to 40 league goals and 50 goals in total

FM 2009, thumping Chealsa 5-1 in a CL semi with Cesena was quite special as was finally winning Serie A.

Still in the CM series I was Spurs in a UEFA cup semi-final against Blackburn.

Lost my home game 2-1 and was 1-1 within 3 min of going out, with my 3 subs already in at half-time and no chances since the 65, 70th min mark.

I was playing with a friend of mine at his place and was saying that I couldn't watch it anymore - getting a heart attack at 15 years old isn't my idea of fun - and was about to leave the room. As soon as I approached the door my friend said that I had the ball...

A fast-counter and Sheringham scored to tie the playoff. I was jumping all over the room like a monkey.

As I was still celebrating a last chance - 91st minute - from keane sent the ball to sheringham again, who put it 3-1 to end the game. I was over the moon! So much that I think I won the UEFA cup 4-0 or something like that, but everytime I think of FM I remember THIS game.

Little did I know that this series would haunt me for life... :))

Getting Celtic to the CL final on fm08 (even though we lost it 2-1)

Building an all conquering AC Milan team on fm09 that won something like 8 trophies in two seasons (largely thanks to ludicrous amounts of money being made available for transfers by my unusually generous chairman).

Championship Manager 01/02 - won the champions league with AC Milan in my 4th season. I'd won everything there was to be won except the elusive champions league in which I'd lost 3 finals in a row. I was 1-0 down against Real Madrid with only 5 minutes left. My star central defender equalises and we go on to win 5-4 on penalties. If I'd lost another final, I think I'd have been ready to give in the game for good :p

Went to stay with some family friends and there kids had CM1, they loaded up a game for me as my beloved Spurs. First game went 2-0 down ( can't remember who to ) then Jan Aage fjortoft proceeded to score a hatrick and we won 3-2. Been hooked ever since. Another god memory was winning the champions league with Monaco, with Paul Mcveigh scoring the winner.

One of my greatest moments was followed very quickly by one of the worst.

Start of play needed a draw to secure the title, I went 1-0 down and 2nd place were winning comfortably, as things stood I wouldnt win the title and get promoted. In the 92nd minute I equalised to secure the title and i lept up outm y seat and was dancing around the room. I was horrified to see on my return I had conceeded litrally straight after scoring and had lost 2-1

Where do i start?! There's been so many great memories for me (and some bad ones too) but i suppose the best memory for me was winning the Champions League with Peterborough in CM96 or CM97 (i can't remember exactly what year it was). It was an amazing career i had in which i signed some of the best regens ever, mainly Portuguese regens. Oooh wait, but then again i had two great saves on CM Italia where i dominated world football with Juve and Milan which included signing Des Walker, Marco van Basten and Gazza. Oooh wait, but then there's...well, like i said, there's been sooo many good memories. :D

Lots of good memories, but the most recent one must be in FM08 when I took Blyth Spartans from the BSN to the EPL, only missing promotion for one season on the way up. My first game in the EPL saw me tonked by a rugby score, and I ended that year relegated by February and on a record low number of points (6, I think, all from draws). It was a great game, took me about six or seven determined seasons in the Championship to get back up, and I ended up winning the Champions League years later (although never got the league title), but that first year in the EPL of being way out my depth always sticks in the memory.

As Man City on FM08, was in the was in the Champions League Quarter Final against Inter Milan. Lost the first leg at the San Siro 2-1 so going into the return leg I fancied my chances to go through. They scored in the first 10 minutes so looked to be heading out but then I equalised about three minutes later. I scored a penalty to go into half time 2-1 up but then came out for the second half...

They scored to make it 2-2, then I scored then they scored etc.. til it reached 4-4 with 10 minutes left. Then in the 88th minute Elano scored a free-kick from the edge of the area and in the last minute of stoppage time, Martin Petrov scored to send me through. I'd never seen anything like it before, real nail-biting stuff. Had that game saved but recently uninstalled FM08 to save memory on my laptop :(

Tell me about it. I've strongly considered retiring that save, because there's no way it could possibly get any better.
