hey fuss in general i found 4.6 good in defence but very difficult to score. with 3.0 a lot of draw. always in years play with your approach but found difficult this time. i'm always playing in italy with fiorentina, so maybe is just me. tank's a lot for your work as always!

Well cant test it since mine dont have it :) They do score some crazy goals tho..

I treid 3.0 and i find 2.0 works better.. Problem is the AP gets marked to death and as mezalla he has a bit more freedom I think.

Changed the DLF to AF

2 IF's Stay wider

and time wasting to sometimes from frequently

I have a young squad but they do good.

Also the starting 22 is actually a very good way to keep everyone happy/fresh developing!

I love using a 22, glad to see it works for you too. I also have the same scepticism about play-makers, don't tend to use them myself!

Hi Fuss,

I've been working on a 4-1-2-3 Asymetrical left and right tactic, based on your tactics attached.. Feel free to try and comment on your thoughts.. I've been running 2 saves, 1 with Milan and 1 with Chelsea.. Both working really well.. With Milan I managed to win the league but lost Europa League to Bayern. Chelsea i'm in 2nd season just started using this tactic.. defensively its ok but I've gotta be aggressive in team talks. Attacking wise I've only not scored once in a 1-0 loss to brighton but i rested alot of my key players.

Key results beating Barcelona with Chelsea 3-2 Away.

I'm probably 1 key Central defender short at the moment and will look to bring that in once funds are available.

1 thing that bugs me about this tactics is that i can have 30-40 shots on goal and half of those on target but only score 1 goal. I'm trying to work on this to perfect the tactic but this by far has been a very enjoyable tactic to try and tweak for the better of my set ups.

These look interesting, I'll have a play. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Fuss,

i'm going to try your tactic, i've many IF's and I want to exploit them.

Where can I find the 3.1?  I'm going to play the UCL with Az Alkmaar (second season) and for sure i'll meet some top dogs.

I've actually lost 3.1, but it was very close to 3!

the new version v4.6 from post above yours seems to be very very solid in defence, not scoring to much goals tough.. very realistic tactic with no exploits

It's just a test tactic, not a finished product, stick with the official releases :)

I'm not sure to have such a good team.

Anyway I really appreciate these tactics close to reality.

3 games in using the v3 tactic...0-0...0-0 and 1-0 loss....scratches head

I can help, but I'll need more information. Were the players fully adapted to the tactic? Were you expected to win that first game? Did you use appropriate OIs throughout the match? If so did you treat your players suitably afterwards? Did you rotate in-form players in for the next game? How was the response to team talks in each of the first two games? If I drew two in a row I was expecting to win I'd take step to arrest the issue, i.e. individual talks for everyone and a much more attacking mentality for the next match.

You can't just plug in a tactic and click continue, you actually need to manage your squad when things go wrong, any team and any tactic is subject to how you manage chance and coincidence.

I find the first goal hard myself - most teams tend to put 10 or 11 men behind the ball when I play them and breaking them down is a bitch.

If you're dominating, but can't score - the most common complaint - then up the width, creativity and attacking until a first goal....after that they'll have to come out and you can then pound teams for a big scoreline on the default....it's just those first goals that are a total bugger in this version...but actually that's real life football too!

I've been working on an entirely new tactic, which I'll probably create a new thread for when it's done.

It's based on how AC Milan used to play when I was a kid - very fluid, lots of creativity, short, quick passing and plenty of movement. This is a tactic created to play the game I want to see played on the pitch, rather than what's most effective, so it's a big of an indulgence if you like!

You'll need a very good team to pull it off as they need good passing and technical skills all round - you really can't afford many mistakes or misplaced passes with a tactic like this. This doesn't mean a team that's top of a lower league, this means a champions league level team. As a rule of thumb you're overall passing success rate should be about 80%, if it's dropping much below this, then you don't have the players necessary.

This isn't an official release, maybe at the weekend, but if anyone wants to give it a whirl and give me some initial feedback then that would be great.

Hi all,

It's been a while but I have some time to play FM again, yey!

So with that in mind this is my current personal tactic - I've not tested it with any team outside of my main game, but will probably use it as a base for sometime new over the ext couple of weeks :)

My teams pretty good, although it's only 2020/21 and most of the players are still developing.

Have fun!

It's always a good sign when the same tactic is working for the U23's and U18's too!

Thanks for nice tactics that don't use 3 strikers! :)

I'm on the public beta so that might be the reason for this, but I can't get the AF to work at all. The tactics are good, but the AF have so far produced 5 goals (2 pens) in half a season as Liverpool.

I play with the 3.0 DM verison, I also tried the latest one you posted here but the issue remains. AF get constantly below 6,5 ratings.

Firmino/Salah are the ones I've tried up top, maybe no the right kind of players?

Have you got a specialist throw in instruction set up? I seem to be creating a lot of what feel like artificial chances from throw ins at the minute.

I've played with all the set pieces, something I've never done before.

With this tactic getting the first goal is key as you'll often pin all 11 of the other team behind the ball (like Man City do in RL) - once that first goal comes they'll have to play more openly and then you'll rack um up.

Update on my BETA tactic (this is for the normal version of the game...not the beta game)

The counter version was invented as my team struggled in particular with Liverpool (top players, very high press), this change beat them comprehensively, so might be better for tougher teams or if you aren't playing a top team.

Cheers for the reply dude. My team are incredibly dominant in pretty much every game they play which is probably why I noticed it more. It's a good tactic as always, I've always enjoyed how your tactics have played regardless of result. Saves me the effort of trying to figure the ME out :)

Give the counter version a go as your main tactic, even against weaker teams - it's counter intuitive, but I'm actually finding it more dominant because it allows the other team out of their area just that little bit more, which creates space for your players....I'm only just starting to tinker with it myself.

How do these work after new patch?

This whole year I struggled badly with getting my strikers to score even 20 goals in a season.
It's come to the point where I don't want to play the game anymore for the sake of playing it, but I'm just trying to get a damn tactic that will work.
Since I've been playing in usual 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 variants, but without high press and possession, I wanted to try something different. Your tactic looked ideal.
And it's great.
Except that bloody strikers won't score.
I'm playing with Inter and I made another save with the same club just to compare the results.
And it's still the same.

Didn't change anything in the tactic, jus switched WBs to FB-A and in midfield tried playing with DLP-D and two B2B midfielders.
Also played with default midfield setup. Tried changing their instructions with getting more often or more risky passes and so on, tried messing with striker's instructions, but nothing helps.
I only changed set-pieces because my setups provide great results.

Here's the team and the stats at the end of the first season. More of the same continued later on in the second.
Managed to win the league, even had only 4 goals conceded after 19 games. Defense works great, possession is usually 55% or over, but it's still the same in terms of offense, regardless of the tactic I employ.
90% of the goals are either winger to winger crosses, mid-long range shots from wingers and CMs or set-piece/penalty goals:
I don't think there's been more than 5 proper striker goals inside the box from open play.

And I just don't want to play the game anymore because of that. Every single game is a turgid fest. I've even tried 4-2-4, removed one midfielder and fielded another striker against relegation zone teams. Same stuff.
When strikers get into the chances it's usually a half-assed volley from 15m instead of taking control of the ball or those usual unexplainable misses.
I refuse to use those cheesy 3 striker formations or DLF/Treq strikers. I want to bloody have a proper no9 that scores 30+ goals in the season. Up until this year, I always had an easy time getting 40 goal seasons from my strikers.

1207240447_FCInternazionaleMilano_PlayersPlayers.thumb.png.af3bbf1fae7eb0d92e2427bba13440f8.png

Players an the stats.
3 wingers have 33 goals between them, 3 central midfielders that player the most have 18 and two strikers have 21, with maybe 7-8 of those coming from penalties.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi all,

Sorry been a bit too busy to do tactics any justice.

This is my personal tactic that I have developed specially around my team and my players in 19.3.4, feel free to have a play :)

This isn't a official release and hasn't been made for other teams and people to use, so I probably won't be about to support it, sorry!

Zero goals conceded? How did you manage that?

I do it in every version of the game eventually - a perfect season is what I aim for.

I personally think the game mechanics make it too powerful when you've been on a winning streak for a long time, you just keep on rolling.

It's actually continued into the next season, although I am only a few games in! Expecting it to end any time now!

My under 23's are set to use the first team tactic and it seemed to work well for them too considering I don;t manage them at all, or lend them any first team players (they also conceded very little):

Totally agree, the game is far too easy this year - hence the huge "game too easy" complaint thread over in general.

Two key things that seem to break the game for me right now:

  1.  Shouts - are basically a cheat button, hugely overpowered. I just rotate "demand more" and "get creative" constantly throughout the match.

  2. Rotation - I literally have two starting 11's and rotate them every game. That way nearly every player is 98-100% condition before very game, it seems to make a huge difference, we'll easily walkover any team that fields a few 80-90% condition players.

These are my first few games at the beginning of the following season:

Well that's incredibly impressive. My best ever was only conceding 4 in a season, but with a regen team and a game breaking 343 formation with wingbacks and three shadow strikers
