Vikeologist's Víkingur 2032 Season Report

Lots of 5 star potentials in my intake, and a few that I will consider starting next season, but as I can’t register them straight away, next season seems a long way away.

I’m conscious that this might upset people, but I’m finding it hard to get into the save because of the long Icelandic names. I know that they only seem long because they have ‘son’ on the end of every one, but their names just feel long and similar. I’ve had to give a few of them short nicknames because I kept mixing them up.

It also doesn’t help that even though I’m quite strict about which youth candidates I sign, with this lot of candidates on trial, I currently have 74 players on the books.

I suppose our first season in the top division went well. We finished 5th, one place outside European qualifying. We lost a surprising amount of money though, so not qualifying for Europe is unsustainable.

Squad

20240308071818_1.thumb.jpg.6644a4932318ce65ff65e649bde62772.jpg

Season	Division Position	Notes
2024	1 4th Icelandic Cup Q/F, Playoffs S/F.
2025	1 10th Survived on last day of the season.
2026	1 4th League Cup losing finalists. Playoffs S/F
2027	1 4th Playoff S/F
2028	1 5th Icelandic Cup. Qualified for Europa Conference. Lost in playoff final.
2029	1 5th Lost in playoff final.
2030	1 5th Lost in playoff S/F.
2031	1 1st League Cup, Icelandic Cup R/U, League champs and promoted.
2032	P 5th One place outside Euro qualification.

At the moment the only changes for next year will be 3 of my intake for this year making it on to the bench. However I might start them for the league cup campaign, and sometimes once I blood the youngsters they never relinquish their place.

Top Goalscorer – Vilhjálmur Gestsson 30a – 16

My lone striker.

Highest Average Rating (minimum 10 matches played) – Kristófer Máni Atlason – 7.24

Atlason was my striker until Gestsson emerged. Now he’s almost entire a sub or fill-in, in either attacking midfield or attack.

Man of The Match – Vilhjálmur Gestsson 30a  – 4

Most Valuable Player– Konráð Freyr Eiríksson 29a

19 year old central defender.

Hey folks! Like many, I'm a long time lurker on this challenge and whilst I have attempted a youth academy challenge a few years back (and failed miserably), it feels the time to have a serious stab at it.

Been struggling to decide on country & club, but couldn't see many attempting Czechia and as a Liverpool fan that enjoyed watching our demolition of Sparta last night, I thought I'd head there and see what could be done.

Really excited by the club that came through as their board and fans want us to develop players from our academy, so hopefully show some patience in my attempts to do just that. So here goes!

Guess who got relegated in the first season. Correct. Now the question is: money vs initial youth setup? Which one should I go for?
For refresher - Foresta gets half a mil per year from the local council, there will never be money issue until I get a grip on the first league
                         - Kids Brasov - they have 14 on averate on the youth related aspects of the team.

I love this idea and I want to give it a real go  but which of the 2 options sounds better?

Kavala Football Club / Αθλητικός Όμιλος Καβάλα

Season 21 - 2044/45

Schedule / Squad / Transfers / Finances / Manager

Season Summary:  this season, our performance in the league was disappointing. We finished 6th in the regular phase, a full 10 points behind AEK, who secured the top spot. After winning the title last year, we hoped to climb a few places in the standings. Unfortunately, we had a rough end to the season, only earning 8 points in our last 10 games. This placed us 6th overall and out of contention for the Champions League next season. It's especially tough considering that this year, for the first time ever, 4 teams from Greece qualified for UEFA's top competition, due to our country rising to 5th place in the coefficient rankings. In total, 7 teams made it to European competitions, with Asteras Tripolis finishing 1st in the relegation phase.

In the Greek cup, we were far from winning, exiting in the quarter-finals once again after a match against AEK.

Our run in the Champions League was decent. We made it to the Round of 16 for the first time after finishing 10th in the group phase with 15 points from 5 wins and 3 losses. Notable wins included a 3-2 against Juventus and a 4-3 against Manchester United. Unfortunately, we were defeated by Real Madrid with a 6-1 aggregate score.

A big surprise came at the end of the season when we received news that we would be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup due to our high ranking in UEFA. We managed to draw against the Italian giants AC Milan and defeat the Egyptian team Pyramids. However, we suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against Corinthians in the final group stage game, finishing 3rd in Group C.

Alexandros Donis was our top goal scorer with 12 goals, and Nikos Siaperas was our most consistent player with an average rating of 7.15 per game.

This marked the last season for Dimitris Manafis, who ended his 20-year career with almost 500 matches, holding the record for the most appearances with Kavala's shirt.

A significant achievement this year was our finances reaching the 100 million mark, with a large portion coming from the prize pools generated by our participation in the Champions League.

Youth intake: we had another decent intake this year with the most promising players being Vasilis Tsirelas 45aGiorgos Kaloudis 45bMarkos Gentsoglou 45cKyriakos Aspiotis 45dBabis Tasiopoulos 45e and Ilias Bedrelis 45f.  We bid farewell to our Head of Youth Development Luka Livojević after 18 years of service and welcomed Vigen Hovhannisyan.

Our U19 team successfully defended their Youth League title after a flawless campaign. They also won the Euro/South American Super Cup against River Plate's youth team. As expected, our youth team also secured the league title once again with a considerable lead.

Supersport HNL (Tier 1)

A good bounce back season after last season's near disaster. We comfortably survived the drop and any relegation battle this year and pushed for a European place towrads the end of the season.

Ultimately, we fell just short of Europe, but a commendable season none the less.

This year I reached 200 games in management which is better than any previous attempt at this challenge.

I signed a new contract until 2032

I completed my Continental A Coaching Badge and Continental Pro Badge

We got an upgrade to our training facilities

This guy has to be one of my favourite ever newgens.  A strange country for any player to come through my academy as I don't have any links with Hong Kong.  He is growing rapidly and will go on to play at a higher level.

I do realise how slow the progress is with Tranent when I read your updates  I'm blessed with a squad full of players that are like just under that Clark/Morton band of players, but can't seem to get any over that line and those that do ask for minimum fee release clauses.

Yes, in hindsight I was pretty lucky with those two, none of my other players are close to that level, and the intakes are typically 2-3*PA max these days; just hope I manage to complete before these two get too old, which could be done if I get some decent defenders. Funny thing I was almost thinking of selling Clark because he didn't develop at all for the first few years, then once he turned 20-21 suddenly all the attributes started skyrocketing, a strange one for sure - maybe his personality improved or something.

Brora Rangers – Season 25 (2048/49)

League/Europe Close but no cigar again, a CL semi final exit in extra time at the hands of Atletico Madrid. Domestically very dominant, winning a treble.

spacer.png spacer.png spacer.png spacer.png

Players Squad stagnating a bit, but I might have a decent young center back coming through in Trevor Chiken, finally. From the senior players, Jure Galic (ST) had a great year for us, rated as 1* PA at intake, I signed him up because of his 20 determination. Turns out he actually has a terrible personality but is definitely not a 1* player, our best striker at the moment :D

spacer.png spacer.png

Youth intake (preview) Disappointing, mostly attackers again and very little talent.

spacer.png spacer.png spacer.png

Facilities Stadium expansion completed.

Transfers Nothing major.

Season Review 2030/31 (Season 7)

NK Kustošija Zagreb

Supersport HNL (Tier 1)

nk_kustosija_zagreb.gif.6f3cc68a5c2d43e0d1f7ebdf51e13356.gif

What a season we had. We pushed for a Champions League spot almost to the end. Unfortunately we finished the campaign with 3 straight losses and had to settle for 4th place. That gives us European football next season with a chance to really solidify our finances.

Off field

We had another training facility upgrade

I signed another new contract, this one til 2034

I won Croatian First League Manager of the Year

Darko Giorgiev 04C is our first player to feature on the NXGN list, coming in at number 42

Adel Galonja 02A led the league in goals with 22

[FM23] Reymersholms IK - season 28 - 2050

Some nice talents, I like Lindgren a versatile offensive player and Nguyen Van Quan will get a chance at DR, my current ones lookes like they're at their peak which is only 2* so that Vietnamese kid can outgrow them

We again got 29pts but this year few teams were significantly weaker so we had no problems staying above relegation zone.

Our bank balance is safe and growing so the board agreed for more upgrades, training facilities twice and youth recruitment so just before the start of next season we will have max levels everywhere except youth facilities

Pretty similar to last season, but we lot a lot more points this time around. We scored a few more and conceded a few less, so things progressed in that way too. The big thing though, is that we got promoted! We had to do the long way to do it, but we did manage it. Finishing in 3rd we went straight into the final where we faced Sandnes Ulf, who had beaten Start in the semi final. So we went into the final playoff against HamKam. They had finished 14th, and quite a while back the rest in Eliteserien, so I thought they were around our level. The first leg, in Hamar, was a mad match, were it was goals galore and eventually it ended 4-4. In our home match, things looked to continue as we got an early goal, but then not much more happened, and it's not like it bothered me. Outside the goal scored, the combined xG for the rest of the match was 0.43, so very few chances and just hard work. When the ref blew his whistle we could celebrate going to the top tier for the first time in the clubs history!

When the game was over, I also got a very nice message from the board, we are going professional!

Best youth players:

Mads Fredrik Blåsternes 25a is developing really well, but I'm still concerned about his physical development.
Petter Bjørke 24a is a promising midfielder, but it's clear his mental attributes is his strength.
Svein Marius Dæhli 26b has developed really nice this season and got some chances in the early cup rounds and did well.

Norgesmesterskapet: We beat Mandalskameratene, Gjøvik-Lyn, Lørenskog, Aalesund, and Grorud before we lost to Bodø/Glimt in the semi final. A really good run for us.

The board was really nice this season and accepted many of my suggestions!

I keep having the exact same thing happen nearly every year to 1 player and it's got to the point where I'm just not relying on any reports and it's incredibly frustrating to an extent, but also quite enjoyable. It's definitely a huge switch from FM23 that's a bit under the radar.

I've been switching to just loaning players straight out as youngsters regardless of age, which has now caused a bit of an interesting season.

2061/62 Season Report

League:

I'd say we had quite a poor year, but had to wait till the relegation playoff was completed to see what happened to Hearts! Also says a lot about how close 3rd to 7th was, when Arbroath finish 26 points ahead of 8th place because of the split!

Hibernian get another title, 3rd in a row, 5th in 6 years. They're pretty much far and away the best team in Scotland. Although they are spending about £50m-£70m every year, so I'm not too surprised! They are getting past the UCL League Phase, but no further. So a bit similar to us.

I'm actually a little thankful we get a shot at the Conference League again - there's only maybe 4 or 5 sides I'd consider better than us (9th placed PL Bournemouth, 6th placed L1 Monaco, 7th placed Bundesliga Hamburg, 7th placed SA Genoa and 8th placed LL Espanyol) and even then, they're not exactly the strongest sides.

Europe:

I'll do this slight Europe update here (apologies, I've played a few games into the 62/63 season!):

image.thumb.png.75da65f167944ff76e8764e1c8da983b.png

We should pull well clear of Portugal after the next season, and then we should really get into 5th by the season after, especially looking at the horror 58/59 season by Scottish clubs. That would add another UCL place for us which we would most definitely not say no to!

image.png.f9c1cd20b30bc14c2e127f0a5e6a9a7b.png

Bloody hate English teams. Going out to Man Utd isn't horrible as they're one of the top 3/4 sides in the world, but wouldn't mind a bit more luck in the draw. And to get me past the Round of 16:

image.png.e7024946d7103ed2a537aa736ecdde18.png

Fully expect to get knocked out by Bournemouth in the Conference League.

Cups:

image.png.1e96e27e32f555ed14fcce6b026b08f0.png

Not too much to say here, our run of Scottish Cup finals are over but we're getting quite far every year at least.

Youth Intake:

image.thumb.png.e86d3b026c7c288f14eb275b473e23f0.png

3 higher potential players, but nothing to shout home about. I seem to promote a player every year that has 3 star potential from a group that ends up being one of my better players.

Other Business:

image.png.e9d8cbdb1be2dcc35e1f9a4b1d6d92cc.png

Zhelyazkov gets third in the u21 awards. Annoyingly, ex-Tranent Connor Grant gets first. This is the 2nd time where we've had this happen - if we can get our best prospects and hold them even till 21 or 22, we'll end up going a lot further in the UCL.

Solomon Frimpong:

Goodbye, my sweet prince. 1024 all time appearances for the club will very likely never be beaten. He takes up a role as the u18 assistant manager whilst I try my best to send him on coaching courses.

It feels very, very weird playing this save without having him in the starting 11 or bench now.

Two round-ups as I thought I'd actually posted until I came to quote my previous post!

Going so close in 62/63 was a bit of a heartbreak, but we seemed to be closing the gap and then somewhat out of nowhere, we absolutely stomped the league in 63/64, taking home our first title in 9 years. We seemed to have made a fairly big step up, particularly with the younger players coming through. Instead of keeping them in the youth academy, I'm sending them out on loan to whoever wants to take them and give them starting time. This does seem to have made a bigger difference, although we did give up Bede Simon for the 62/63 season to make sure he started.

63/64:

Getting dumped out early in 62/63 was a bit demoralising. Although lumbering somehow to another Scottish Cup Final in 63/64 was interesting considering we absolutely limped past lower league opposition the entire time!

Another Conference League win! They're actually surprisingly simple as a bigger team with the only real challenges coming in the Semi Final and the Final. Absolutely brought back to life in the Champions League though - we're clearly just knocking at the door of the top table, but can't break through it. It is a bit more fun in the Conference League, quite enjoy nearly winning every game!

End of Season Review

Season 2029/30

Bury

Pes Miti del Calcio - View topic - Bury F.C. All Stars

Season Summary

It was another triumphant season, though we nearly blew it.  Top for most of the season, Altrincham caught us on the penultimate day as too many draws in the run nearly cost us dearly.  Thankfully, we won the promotion playoffs to secure our place in the Football League.  We were woeful in the cups, however and our F. A. Trophy defence was a disaster.

End of Season Review

Season 2032/33

Le Puy

Season Summary- This was by far our best finish in Ligue 2. After finishing the last few seasons in the bottom 4 every season. It was also a massive 10 point increase compared to previous seasons. I believe that this season is one step in the transition towards fighting for promotion. We had our first game with the first 11 players from the youth intake, and we aren't the worst in the league at most stats/abilities anymore. We did disappoint in the French cup again by losing to Martigues in the 8th round.

League3233.png.441071a7d950a2802ebfc92c87452e35.png

Our best talent from last seasons youth intake, Driton Rama became the youngest player to appear in a Ligue 2 match

Record32.png.76e267cce9617aeb65b624810a662f9a.png

Meanwhile another youngster became the youngest goal scorer in Ligue 2 History

Ligue2GR32.png.7352696da8ba4177b6d77cf94a644255.png

Andreas Kruger also became our all-time top-scorer

Lastly we also had our first two french players called up to the French youth team.

Season Details

Transfers- Started being able to loan out players to National 2, for more experience.

Youth Candidates - Seems like I forgot to take a picture of the youth intake, but overall it was a pretty good intake. With quite a few elite talents, by far the best option was Liam Guillerm an extremely quick attacker.

Key Players

POTS- Our POTS, YPOTS, and top goal scorer. His 20 goals in the league were the second-highest this season. He definitely overperformed his XG, but he was also the primary reason we improved so much.

Screenshot2024-03-07154330.thumb.png.b26c74404d265bd853f61505e694bdcc.png

Top Assister- A surprising youngster became our top assister this season, while they started the season off as the 3rd option on my right wing. Abdoulaye Diallo kept assisting every time he came on the pitch, ending the season with 8 assists in the league.

Screenshot2024-03-07154453.thumb.png.bf9b96779a8730d95fc5dcdca39dcf39.png

Best new youngster- We had two players from last seasons youth intake that did extremely well, but it was clear who was the most important of those two. Driton Rama started 18 games this season at age 16. While he primarily started at right back, his versatility meant that he played some games in CB and even LB. The other player was Florentin Bacque who scored 6 goals in the league this season, while he is our best attacking striker, he's still got quite a bit to go to get past my other attackers.

Enfield Town - 2026/27

VanaramaNationalLeagueSouth_Stages.thumb.png.024e930b2771826843cad7f5bf4add2b.png

A take if two halves this year as we picked up the majority of our points before the turn of the year before going on an awful run and recording just 2 (two) wins from January to April. Really not sure how to stop the rot here. We finished 19th by the sheer luck of other teams around us being awful.

FA Cup saw us out in the fourth qualifying round to Dorchester, and no repeats of our final appearance this year in the FA Trophy as AFC Fylde of the National League beat us 2-1 in the third round.

Would, and maybe should, have put no one here as nobody truly stood out - Gucci is our best player by a long way and even he's only considered a decent Vanarama South player so we're miles away in terms of talent. Freddie Stanley is an okay option at left back and Marcus Wyllie was our top scorer with a massive 14 goals.

Happy with that. Gadir and Ridgewell both immediately join the first team and provide some much needed upgrades in the centre of the park. Moyses could turn into a solid defender - we're losing one of our starting centre backs to retirement this summer, so he may find himself in the first team sharpish.

The season is long, the laptop is slow. The grind continues, although I still really love this save. It's amazing the depth we possess. We're able to play a fully rotated squad and still manage to win league games.

We retain our league title and firmy establish ourselves as one of the top teams in Spain. It helps that both Real and Barça have fallen off a bit. We win the title with the lowest point total in 'history' (I think they mean from when the save started). We were 6 points ahead of Real with 3 games to play. We then lost to Vigo and our next game was against Real. A defeat would basically hand them the title, but we've been so clutch the entire season. We won that game 2-1 and secured the title.

Europe

A good European run, which saw us knocking out Benfica and Liverpool before succumbing to Newcastle in the quarter finals. The second leg might have been the most thrilling game I ever played on FM. We came back from a deficit three times to finish 3-3 in regulation. We missed two enormous opportunities in extra time and then go out on penalties after our GK missed the deciding one. We now know we can hang with the elite teams in Europe

As if we don't play enough games, there's also the Spanish super cup which is played smack in the middle of the season. We managed to beat Barça before losing to Atletico Madrid in the final.

Youth Intake

The preview promised central midfielders, instead we've got an incredible talent on the left wing back position. Emili Dominguez is the biggest talent to come out of the academy. He arrives with a score of 70 in my excel formula.

Best XI

It's odd how I win the title and the cup, but only have 4 players with an average rating above 7... We rotate between a 4222 narrow and this tactic below depending on the opposition. In goal Robert Alsina has taken over from Emili and has solidified the position. They're stil no world beaters, but they do the job. On defense more of the same, although I did started to bring in Carlos Boriba on the right. He's 19, lightning fast and has 5 star PA. He wil become the starter next season. In midfield we have a lot of decent players we can rotate between. Dellfi should be our best player attribute wise, but I feel underwhelmed. We have two very good BWM's in Sebastian and Armando Esteban. Jose Manuel was our leading scorer once again and made the difference in many games. He's 12 goals away from being the all time goalscorer. Sollivelles was less impressive than the previous season. In attack I have plenty of options with Henry Ike, Robert Pujadas or Oussama Elyounnoussi

I was not that impressed with the intake 5 seasons ago, but it has actually delivered some decent players:

Kike Gil is a speed merchant on the wing. He has trouble finding playing time, so he went out on loan in the 2nd half of the season to Sporting Gijon in the 2nd tier. He's still developing nicely, so he might one day become a starter.

Sebastian became a starter rather early and is a very nice BWM, but he's getting competition from his fellow graduate Armando Esteban, who seems to have the higher ceiling and a better personality.

Armand Gasol is another player I just can't find the playing time with all the talent up front. I was unable to register him, so he threw a tantrum. He was out on loan at Athletico Pamplona, but didn't really impress. His future is very much up in the air.

Other than that, Nicky Otto, Oscar and Pep Balleste are still at the club. Otto might develop to become our 3rd string GK, for the others their future probably will be somewhere else

  • The club is now in "Rich" financial status
  • The club has the highest reputation in Hungary now but it is only 3*, hopefully, we will be able to regularly participate in the UCL and soon we will reach 3.5*, which can help in the further upgrading of youth facilities and the signing of a better coaching team, which is not bad now, two areas are already 4.5*, and the others 4*

@Fat Controller, nice to see someone else in Croatia. Is your U19 team playing in the CJL? My save is in 2031 but we still only play friendlies with the youth team, unfortunately. I'm 4th reputation-wise; Rijeka-Hajduk-Dinamo-Karlovac

In my save, your club: NK Kustosija Zagreb, has never been promoted to the Second League. Interesting to see you doing so well!

Ajax Lasnamäe - 2028 Season Report

image.thumb.png.1cbb385ed018a54549a13fbcfb1faac1.png

We found the step up to the top tier to be too much for us. We started OK, but a third into the season we went into a dreadful run which included 15 straight losses and never looked like we would escapae relegation. Our Youth Intake actually saved us some grace as we picked up 7 points in the last 8 games to make the gap to 9th at least somewhat respectable.

Squad by Appearances

image.thumb.png.68270d8bc176f4216216523ddac6b658.png

There are more midweek games in the top tier due to international breaks so we did rotate a bit more. The squad was not good enough for the top tier, with our best players decent second tier players as per our coaches.

Top Player - Chris Lepik 26j: One of the few players to have a decent season as he looks to be developing into a decent striker. Did have a nasty injury at the end of the season though which will put him out for 5 months - I hope it doesnt stifle his development too much.

Youth Players

image.png.05a34d64b327a7dd532549905dfe98fe.png

Once again a great CA intake and the personalities are not as awful, which is good improvement. This part keeps the save really exciting as we have a few players each intake that immediately improve the team and with all improvements we have had I hope this trend continues. An amazing 4 players slot straight into the first team and we now all our starters are youth academy players.

Immediately becomes the best player at the club and will be our AP going forward.

image.thumb.png.b5c3ca23f60b916d29bcd3dc57ca8b0b.png

Decent looking striker, immediately made a mark by scoring 4 goals in 8 games.

image.thumb.png.99a0980c1c332b6231014c0e911d1283.png

Did not think this would happen so soon, but we have someone come in that takes our previous best player out of the first XI.

image.thumb.png.4ad7c3cb9e925486e25b5f2fcf9fef04.png

Slots in at the back likely as our BPD.

Transfers

Nothing of note again, squad is getting big though so will look to release some players in the off-season.

Finances

image.png.40600a56ebcba8b24b5b24e47256b449.png

Not bad considering we spent 90k in training facility improvements. We managed to get a senior affiliate in Sudtirol of Italy, which gets us another 28k ish a year.

Progress

image.thumb.png.61371f89d81ec3e2258ea1bd9195faa5.png

Back to the second tier we go, which isnt necessarily a bad thing and to be honest if we dont go straight back up that is OK too. I think we need a couple more years to improve the side before we can be competitive at the top level.

2030/2031 Season 7: VNL Playoffs and FAT Final

We were picked to finish just above the relegation zone for our first season in the National League, and got off to a pretty rocky start.

But the October happened. We won all 6 of our matches that month enroute to a 15-match unbeaten run in all competitions, and by the New Year we were slumming with the big boys near the top of the table. Then after selling several million worth of sell-on clauses and some luck in the FA Cup draw that saw us progress to a 4th Round away match against Tottenham the board agreed to go professional at the end of the season. The boys played valiantly in London, managing a narrow 1-0 loss in a sign of good things to come in the capital city.

As spring progressed we never really had a shot to win the league as Mansfield absolutely ran away with it. By March my eyes were on a home tie in the first round of the Playoffs, all the while the FAT Cup draw kept us at home against lower league opposition. We played well, eventually securing a spot in the FAT final against league winners Mansfield, all the while securing a 5th place finish in the league. The first round of the playoffs were against Woking, who we'd tied twice in league play. An absolutely heroic 7-save performance from our GK left the tie poised to go to Extra Time, but a 91st winner by our Star 17-year old winger sealed the win (more on him shortly).

The Semi-Final saw us away to Dorking. The home team won each of our previous meetings during the year, and it took another special performance to see us through. Jay Fitzmartin, our longest serving player, team leader, captain, and only 1 of 2 original players left on the roster, carried us to a come-from-behind win in Extra Time with 2 fantastic goals. The tying goal, an absolute screamer from 27 yards (the match engine called it an OG, but it wasn't) followed by another goal in which he just willed the ball into the back of the net saw us take the tie and head back to London to face 7th place Colchester in the Final.

Spoiler

image.png.2f52060f480f4153e2e925f49b463422.png

And oh what a fortnight it turned out to be on our return to London and first visits to Wembley. The Playoff Final was poised on a knife's edge going into halftime, with neither team able to wrestle an advantage, but spurred on by a rousing team talk the boys absolutely ran away from Colchester in the 2nd half, led by our Star 17-year-old, follwed by a goal from our 16-year-old Striker, and finished off by a 20-year-old Mezzala. Are we ready? Probably not lol. But up we go anyway!

A week later we faced Mansfield in the FAT final, who had been on a 2-week layoff after absolutely destroying the league for 108 points. We lost both matches to them during the season, preferring our usual balanced, possession approach. So, given that hopefully it will be our only shot at winning the tournament, and to buck our usual trend, we came out the gate pressing hard and attacking, firing out to a 2-goal lead by the 25th minute, both goals scored by 16-year old up and coming stars. We stayed attacking in search of a 3rd, but Mansfield roared back with two of their own by the break. We kept attacking to start the 2nd half, found a goal in the 51st minute, and shut up shop by dropping to a balanced mentality, dropping our line deep, regrouping, holding shape and doing our best to harass anyone who came close to the ball. Mansfield had some chances, but another 7-save performance by our 19-year old keeper saw out the famous win!

Spoiler

image.png.5db70f5b795e49969841e989250eee0a.png

In terms of infrastructure, we already upgraded training facilities once in the last year, with another upgrade along with a youth training facilities upgrade coming to completion within the next 8 weeks. We are upgrading the stadium with 1500 additional seats, and we will get another $2m boost to our bank balance when the sale of Perreira, the hot shot young winger, goes through in a few weeks. The sale to Ipswich also comes along with a 50% sell-on clause, a friendly, and another $500k of installments over the next year - by far our biggest sale ever, so far.

The intake this year was also solid, with the addition of a stout new CB, a Professional young GK, and a new up and coming AP who is nearly ready to start rotating into the squad once he's trained in central midfield. This season also came along with my 2nd MOY award in as many years.

So yeah. I expect a tough season ahead, but we only have to finish 22nd, which I'm hopeful to do. I'm worried about the financial implications if we don't, but that will be a problem for the future if it comes to pass. On to season 8!

Wieczysta Kraków

lGTbjtD.jpg

dwFY54b.png

Well, another new save for me. But I couldn't resist it. I enjoyed my save with IFK Malmö, and will probably continue if I'll fail with this one. But I came across this club, and really wanted to try a save with it.
First of all: I love managing in Poland. I had a great save in FM22 with Garbarnia Krakow. So I always wanted to come back at some point.
On Twitter/X I came across a blogpost from Fuller_FM. He wrote a fantastic prologue about this club, and the start of his save. And I was completely intrigued by the story of this club.

I'll quote the story about this club from the blogpost of Chris Fuller_FM:

Quote

Wieczysta Kraków was founded in 1942, during one of the darkest periods in Poland’s history. The country had been under German occupation for three years, and the Nazi regime in Kraków had banned locals from playing football. Eventually, the people of Wieczysta – a neighbourhood in the nearby village of Rakowice – decided to start a new club.

When peace returned to Poland, the Żółto-czarni (Yellow and Black) played in the regional leagues, often moving between the 4th and 5th tiers of the Polish pyramid. By 1969, however, they had been relegated to the 6th tier.

Though they worked their way back up to the 4th division (now the III Liga) in the 1990s, a steady decline left them down in in the 7th tier (Klasa A) by 2007. They were eventually promoted as champions of their group a decade later, and their rise to prominence was about to begin.

Wojciech Kwiecień is a millionaire businessman born and raised in Wieczysta who owns over 200 pharmacies across Poland. Kwiecień attempted to buy his boyhood club Wisła Kraków, but when that fell through, he invested in his local team instead. He completed his takeover of Wieczysta Kraków in June 2020, during the height of the COVID pandemic.

Kwiecień is essentially Poland’s answer to the erstwhile Ipswich owner Marcus Evans – a shrewd but secretive man who does not like having his photo taken. However, he has made no secret of his ambitions for Wieczysta. As soon as he had bought the club, he had wiped out their debts and began spending hundreds of thousands of złoty on building or renovating facilities.

Several big names – including former Wolves midfielder Sławomir Peszko – came in to deliver instant results on the pitch. In the 2020/2021 season, Wieczysta won all 28 of their league matches by an aggregate score of 216 goals to 8, sweeping into the 5th-tier IV Liga. They were promoted again with another title in 2021/2022, during which they also had a best-ever run to Round 2 (the last 32) of the Puchar.

Despite a high turnover of players and coaches, Wieczysta enjoyed a strong first season back in the III Liga – finishing 3rd in their group with the most goals scored. Unfortunately, only the champions go up, so they would have to wait at least another 12 months to secure a first-ever promotion to the national divisions.

So, the most interesting part for me is about the owner of the club: Wojciech Kwiecien. A rich businessman who puts a lot of money in the club. I immidiately checked the club in Football Manager, and saw that the club has lots of money, for such a small club. So that was what triggered me to try a save with this club.

I had to holiday for two seasons to get them promoted to Fortuna 1. Liga. I had to reload many, many times. First to get them promoted to Tier 3, and then lots of times to get them promoted to Tier 2. So I was very happy that the club finally popped up.

So here we are! Back in Poland, and also back in Krakow. A funny thing is: I follow Garbarnia Krakow in real life on their socials, because of my save with them a couple of years ago. And last weekend both clubs played against eachother. Wieczysta won the match with 4-0. I saw the result on Twitter/X, and checked the table to see that Wieczysta is topping the table. At that moment I didn't know that I was starting a save with the club, just a couple of days later.

I love the club colours: yellow and black. I made some fantasy kits, based on their club colours in FM. The squad is a bit old, but there are some very good players. Jacek Góralski, Michał Trąbka, Christoph Knasmüllner and Simeon Slavchev for example.

The Finances are very healthy at the start of the save. So, let the good times roll!

2024 Deportivo Armenio - Primera Nacional

Hard season, but escaped the relegation easily.

First of all, there are a lot of players, with Reserve Squad and U-20 Squad with some potencial first team players. With a lot of strikers, went to the season on a 4-2-4, went well but could be better.

And something that need to get use with, the season goes from Januray to October, but the YC is in May rsrs.

So I have two questions, one here >> Do i cancel all of these? As i need to start a blank canvas so to speak?

Also whats the rules with senior affiliate clubs? As this would help with scouting etc?

I've taken a break from FM for a couple months, but with the season starting here in the US & the climax of the continental competitions beginning, I felt the draw back to FM while I watch matches. As I still haven't got FM24 (and honestly might just skip and wait for FM25 at this point) I looked back through my abandoned save folder to see if any old saves interested me. That's when I remembered Turkish player generating Elzaig Spor Hamburg! Having played the save now for over a week and finishing my second season, its fair to say I'm back in it and thus worth posting back in the thread.

Few things drew me back to Hamburg: 1) Alt-nation team ; 2) Horrendous Finances & Facilities ; 3) Unbalanced & significantly lower ability squad than division, 4) Difficult Regional Cup, 5) Good Player Personalities, 6) Interesting Player Statistics.

1) Turkish Generating Club - This makes for very interesting player development as loans go between lower German clubs & Turkish clubs. It also helps for higher salary players as Turkey has strict foreign rules, so clubs are willing to pay higher percent of wages for slight talent from us.

2) Ludicrous Stadium Debt - When the club was doing great fighting for promotion from T5 the board decided our tiny 500 person clay field wasn't sufficient. Then in a league where players are on under $100 p/w contracts the board spent over $3M on a stadium immediately bankrupting the club. I return to a squad with a (1.4M) bank balance & $3.3M Loan Debt.

image.png.b0755c8189660d530385f8d4b090cc67.png

3) 3 Star Goalkeepers but no Fullbacks - The team depth chart is laughable. 3 of our 5 best players are Goalkeepers, so I'm forced to loan 2 of them out so they actually play any matches. We had a star LB, but he wouldn't sign a new deal and I lost him over the summer before this season. For field players the creative genius of the team is AML Efekan Sengul who serves up the lethargic DLF Mehmet Can. We then have a good spine to the team with tall & decent CD with two good DMs. A young CAM/ST rounds out the remaining talent for the squad. Everyone else is 1.5* or less for both FB positions & AMR.

4) Two lower-league powerhouses blocking easy Cup-sweeps - Germany makes it difficult to go on lucrative cup runs as you have to win your regional cup first and then the next year you get entered into the DFB Pokal. We have a sole cup trophy in 2034, but we are coming off our 3rd final defeat this year to one of the two current dominant LL Hamburg Clubs: Hamm United & Barmbek-Uhlenhorst. Both of these clubs I consider our rivals as they have consistently made life difficult for us. B-U is exciting as they were also a viable club for this challenge and last season got promoted into the 3-Liga so are a fully professional club, while Hamm and all the rest are semi-pro.

5) Professional Personalities Galore: This team is young (only 2 players over 25) and is extremely professional: 2x Professional, 3x Driven, 7x Resolute, 13x Fairly Professional & 1x Spirited. Granted a number of these players are trash and will get tossed in short order, but the team is already trending professional and is set up perfectly for mentor groups to correct errant youngsters.

6) Statistics Manager: A way I've tended to play the game in recent years is with two excel spreadsheets to analyze performance of players and club development. To me, starting in the lower part of a dominant nation will provide interesting statistical analysis throughout the life of the save as well as get a proper measure of the improvement of my youth program.

Here you can see very quickly the difference between our squad vs Hamm whose player ability I also exported.

FC Elazig Spor Hamburg

Season 16 2038-39 Regional Division: North (Tier 4)

Competitions

League: 13 of 18 [Preview – 18/18 (1000-1)]

Ending the season 10 points clear of relegation makes it seem like a safer season than this was. I struggled significantly to get a formation to work with this team having forgotten how it played as well as coping with a gaping hole at LB. I must have anticipated issues as I had drafted a 4-3-3 instead of a 4-2-3-1 that was less aggressive. It however was disastrous losing our first 3 games. I then retried our 4-2-3-1 and lost 3 of 4 league games, so that was bad as well. My final plan was to strip the team back to basics and go a 4-2-4 long ball with 6 players back at all times and attack with 4. Of course we lost the first 3 games this way, but by 1 goal and the team looked more stable. I stuck with it and we pulled ourselves up from dead last to unquestioned survival with the ugliest football you've ever seen.

Cup: Quarter Final

Somehow we beat Hamm United in Extra time and put together a solid cup performance for such a dire season. We of course got the hardest team in the tournament in the QF with B-U and we did well to lose 1-0. They easily beat the next opponent and went on to win it.

Season Stats:

End of Season top lists helps see who actually was contributing to our success. Here you can see both my strikers were fairly poor with 11 & 12 goals in ~2500 minutes. Biggest disappointment is actually our star winger Sengul is at the bottom of the assist table and not on the goal table so was not utilized effectively in the season.

Squad CA by Position and Gametime Breakdown:

I like this to point to me where the team is weak depth-wise. Helps for planning. Downside is I rely on the game telling me where a players ideal position is, so it isn't necessarily where they play in my system.

Team Data:

Statistics Excel:

Strikers:

image.png.10fffb5e9aaa9a5359c2f8bb01a70f84.png

Of the 4 2 played up top (Mehmet Can & Feridun Altintas). The other two (Vural & Gezgin) were 2 of our 3 AMR players. They would sometimes feature as subs as strikers but were never the first choice.

image.png.8dd01aec352fb88b5abd54129218fb4e.png

In the first movement/creative stats the surprise for me was Altintas actually had a reasonable chance creation, generating assists and converting them. Both of the AMRs did really well actually generating chances which was a pleasant surprise.

image.png.079e04ee786cd1cc21329ef42a3f070f.png

That optimism for them gets bleak fast when you look at their scoring statistics. I truly don’t think I’ve ever had players that horrible at scoring in an offensive position like they were in. Granted, they weren’t the strikers but still that is just horrendous. You can see though that my strikers weren’t a whole lot better. Altintas actually got himself into good positions generating a lot of NP-xG/90 for the league, and then turned that into a number of shots. However, his accuracy was poor and his conversion even worse which is why his Gls/90 was pretty bang average. He’s let down by poor Composure & Decisions, which I am training him on but its slow developing. At least he’s Professional.

Transfers:

I did my best to loan out my players to get them some game time. Unfortunately, the Slovakian club that took Seman did him dirty and didn't give him a single appearance which did nothing to help develop him. On the flip side though, Senol had a breakout season with SV Elversberg leading them to a League Win + Promotion as well as the Regional Cup Trophy!

Senol vs Kuru

Comparison: Pretty even GKs overall with a couple different benefits to each. What I like more about Senol is his Decisions & Concentration as well as the fact he’s 6’4”. Yes both have the same jumping and aerial, but the physicals I think are better distributed for Senol.

image.png.ad88804131cb3c2cef32cc7c9c89c109.png

Performance:

Goalkeepers are both easier and harder to compare than field players. Each team only has one in the dataset (usually), so you can use the main table instead of the breakouts. However, I have more trouble judging from the stats the difference between good and great goalkeepers. Here it is even harder to compare my two GKs as Senol played a tier lower for the top side, while Kuru played at a higher tier for a bottom side.

Kuru:

image.png.9096b90feeba199d6557b42977b8d5e7.png

Senol:

image.png.fbf1dc0f17f751c3134d89b326d30590.png

The three big statistics for me that made me take the risk on swapping GKs for the next season is that Senol had 23 shutouts in a 30 game season with an average of only .27 Goals/Game. What's even crazier is he created .25 Chances per game (from I'm guessing long kicks over the top), which is extremely high for a goalkeeper. Obviously, he didn't have to work nearly as hard as Kuru who made well over 100 saves this season compared to Senol's less than 25.

The other fact of why I'm giving Senol the chance now is he only has 2 years left on his contract and since I started the save he's considered himself too-good for a new contract with us. Kuru on the other hand I have for 4 more years (with extensions), so one or two years out on loan in Turkey is fine.

Finances:

We had a boardroom shuffle this year that honestly made things even worse. They restructured the debt in a way that generated a paper 1.7M profit, which we will now have a 230k tax on next year. At this point why not, what even is money anyways?

Manager Thoughts

Next Season Formation:

The big task is developing our formation for next season to do better than ‘just not fail’. I've developed a 4-2-3-1 Gegen Press that will take advantage of the teams high work rate, determination & aggression abilities.
The main Issue is my “star” striker Mehmet Can had an awful season up top and I really think his 5/20 movement is just not good enough to get behind the defenses I’m facing. Instead, I think I’m going to try a more GP 4-2-3-1 that is still cautious but uses a high line and drops Can into the 10 slot to take advantage of his great mental attributes instead of sitting up top in a DLF role. He should function fairly similarly in this configuration.

End of Season Review

Season 2033/34

Le Puy

1200px-Logo_Puy_Foot_43_Auvergne_2017.thumb.png.fa2b1a4d624859b54ab596d042f70340.png

Season Summary- For the longest time this looked like the season where we would finally challenge for the top spots in the league. We had a slight dip near the end of the first half of the season, where we didn't win for 6 games straight, but after a good recovery and the fact that no one was running away with the league. We were able to close the gap to the promotion playoffs. We were 3 points away from it with 8 games to go when we decided to become useless. In those last 8 games, we accumulated only 3 points, meaning we ended up 10th away of those promotion play-off places. In the cup, it went a bit better. We were knocked out in the 10th round to Brest (Mid-table Ligue 1), but we were the better team in that game. The game in the 9th round was a rollercoaster with our goalkeeper scoring a 90+5 minute equalizer and being the hero in the penalty shootouts a few minutes later.

Season Details

Transfers- Loaned out some squad players, so they could have some game time and our younger players could get some first team experience. We also sold one of our last remaining players who started the save with us (now only 2 of them left in the squad).

Youth Candidates - This was the worst youth intake we have had since the 2030 season, while we had 3 elite players. Two had low determination as a personality and the other was unambitious. The best of the lot was Tunisian right back Fares Jaballah, he could become our back up right back next season. With their being potential for one of him, our Driton Rama (our best player) to move into the RCB position if he does well.

Screenshot2024-03-13152749.png.3b478e6b4bea5b2c7f47bb3c185de38b.pngScreenshot2024-03-14105904.thumb.png.a0fd9c4c6712b118395ea17ee0bb70b2.png

Key Players

POTS- Our POTS, YPOTS, and top goal scorer. Was Andreas Kruger this season, after a poor start from last season's top scorer Kevin Toure. I decided to let him start up top for a while and it directly played off, with Kruger deciding to score 15 goals in the first 13 games of the season. It was looking like he was going to propel us into the playoff positions, but he suddenly dropped of. He still got 6 goals and 6 of his assists during that time, but his hot streak had cooled down.

 Screenshot2024-03-14105917.thumb.png.e54d5fdac6ff00bc6e024d8c4920fb1a.png

Top Assister- Probably his best season of all time up until now, Ousmane Tine was probably our most consistent player throughout the season with his 10 goals and 10 assists being spread throughout most of the season.

Screenshot2024-03-14105926.thumb.png.b8796a15d1a97e068691d01c1677d98f.png

Best new youngster- We had 3 youngsters from last season's intake who played for our first team this season. With Liam Guilerm being the best of the lot. He became the youngest goalscorer in the league and provided us with even more depth up top and on the left side of our attack.

Unione Sportiva Livorno 1915

Manager profile

A club without major trophies, twice finished as runners-up before WWII and had a few good seasons in 2000s with Cristiano Lucarelli winning the Golden Boot and Marco Amelia earning a callup for the World Cup winning Italy squad. In the same year Livorno had its only European experience (thanks to several clubs above being involved in match fixing), losing to Espanyol in the round of 32. Then comes a typical Italian story – relegation, financial troubles, bankruptcy, restoration in the lower leagues and finally promotion back to Serie C.

Best eleven:

RossettiCesarini

Giordani

SabattiniTanasaBartolini

Curcio – Brenna – SchiaroliFancelli

Biagini

No decent wingers (except one with expiring loan), a few 30+ players who will need replacement soon, but a good pair of center-backs in their prime, young goalkeeper, right-back and Sabatini should be our starters for years.

Other players who need mentioning are Andrea Luci (39-year-old club legend who remembers Livorno’s last season in Serie A) and two promising youngsters from the first intake – Malotti (he will get some chances in the first team as a backup AMC) and Metafonti (so far will play for U18).

Starting setup is quite good for this level.

P.S. Already started the season, and what a debut it was! A game against one of our rivals, just relegated from Serie B, and we won it with a captain's free kick in injury time!

Lyra Lierse - Belgium

Jupiler pro League -  2nd

Champions League - League stage

We did well until January when transfer offers and injuries upset our rythm and morale. We responded well though and three victories in our final three champion group games managed to grab us a second place finish

Champions League was tough. We didn't get a great draw and only two victories meant we went out at the league stage. We really struggled with squad depth meaning i was forced to play unready 16 year olds at places like the Nou Camp. League still takes priority atm.

Players

The most frutrating thing with these saves is knowing where your weaknesses lie and not being able to do anything about it! My striker is actually a left winer and my defence is a different class to midfield and attack. sadly, a much lower class

Some nice looking prospects coming through, not least these two fella-me-lads

Where are they now?

I really like it when people revisit past youth intakes to see what happened, so I decided to do it too. 5 years seems a good number so here's what happened to my 2041 intake:-

41youthintake1.thumb.JPG.1f0b8f065d091d5eb88295c282e79f63.JPG

Mohamed Lakhdar - was he really a 4 star potnetial youth? he stunk the place out and left on a free after 2 years with his potential dropping to 2 stars

Renzo Wouters - Sold to Cercle Brugge for 100k where he's doing..... not great.

Gregoire Lacroix - Might be the one that go away. Natural at AMC but accomplished at MC or striker, I could never really decide where he would be best suited. As a result he just filled in here and there and ended up being sold last season for £1.4m to Gent

Roan Willems - European golden Boy and a leading Pro Jupiler league player. First choice DM, he's great.

Rodrigo Njoh - Nah, rubbish sadly. Kept him around to see if he's improve but if anything he got worse. Offloaded to Antwerp for £200k, which we were frankly lucky to get

Cyrille Keita - Surprised to see him as a 4 star at intake. He quickly got downgraded to a 2 star potential and sold only 2 years later for £140k

So, for what on paper looked a great intake, it was actually pretty poor, only redeemed by Willems. But if I ccan get one plyer like him a year I'll be very happy so.... swings and roundabouts I guess!

I might do 2039 one day - three of them are my best 3 players and all in the Belgium squad. that intake was insane!

Can you link the DB? The general rule of thumb is DBs are allowed to enable playing in countries/tiers not available in the base game as long as they attempt to recrate the real world leagues. Thus no fantasy DBs like USA with Pro/Rel is allowed.

Those are all great leagues to choose.

3) Yes, use a holidayman who then retires and is never played with. Then create a coach with the minimum experience (Sunday League & No Badges) with any single nationality. You can choose any club promoted into the lowest playable league regardless if they have an existing coach or not.
