Hello and welcome to the Football Manager 2023 Benchmarking Thread.

This is my fourth year running the thread and every time it has gone from strength to strength which is a testament to you guys here at the forums.

I have changed things slightly this year as I wanted to avoid comparisons of the timings from previous years.  Any comparisons are pretty pointless as the amount of games on any given week can vary wildly from version to version.

With that in mind i've taken the opportunity to standardise the tests.  Essentially there are 2 setups being tested.  Benchmark 1 is a typical setup for most users and the other Benchmark 3 has all leagues loaded. 

The other two tests are the same as above just with the detail level turned up to test those multi core CPUs.

Benchmark 4 is once again a real test for top end PC's so thanks again to @Daveincid for setting it up.

Posting Results

In order to get the most accurate / consistent result possible, I advise you to restart your PC / Laptop and then close everything that is unnecessary, leaving only FM open.  If you run the game on a laptop, don't forget to plug it in the socket before you begin and also for laptop users make sure your system is in high power mode.

After you load the save, ensure that auto save interval is disabled, and also set processing to Fast (Less Responsive), both can be found by using the search bar in Preferences.

Below is the format in which I advise you to post your results, it's pretty much the same as previous years, don't worry if you aren't sure of the Base/Turbo frequencies of your processor as I can find this out for you as long as you know the CPU Model.

You can download this program HERE

once you've installed it the CPU tab will give you the type of CPU, it can be found under specification.  don't worry about CPU speed I can work that out from the model number

 

click on the "memory" tab and you will be presented with this

 

The type and size are top left

The speed is DRAM frequency.  You need to double this figure. (DDR = Double Data Rate)

So the above is 534 x 2 = 1068MHz

Quick reminder again this year i'll again be asking for your Graphics level in 3D.

What this means is what graphics level you set in the game to get a smooth experience.  This should prove invaluable for the guys over at the New PC/Laptop recommendation thread so be sure to fill that in too

Was set on the M2 mba but realised that I don’t really use my laptop as a laptop too much to warrant the expense, so building my own small form factor that can fit in a backpack when I occasionally travel back home.

At the moment going with 12600k but very interested in the 13600k.

Have you found RAM speed to affect the game? Torn between DDR5 2x16gb 5200mhz and 6000mhz.

I would say the 13th gen is definitely an upgrade on the 12th based on youtube videos i've seen.  The only issue really would be that the newer Intels do produce a lot of heat when compared to the Ryzens so might not be ideal for a small form factor so a decent cooling would be a major consideration.

For FM there is no evidence that faster Ram makes any difference at all from what i've seen

Yeah I think if I go for 5200mhz I’ll upgrade the cpu - will have an 240 aio cooler with upgraded fans so should be alright but will check this

All things considered i'm fine with the results. I do, however, get the gut feeling that it might be time to upgrade, in a near future.

Looks like people do want to compare to last year so it goes a bit like this

Benchmark 1 = A

Benchmark 2 = New this year

Benchmark 3 = B (but with more (all) players loaded)

Benchmark 4 = D

Like i've mentioned before though the amount of fixtures is different so camparison doesn't really work unfortunately

There seems to be a lot of variance between runs in benchmark 3 and 4 (up to 10-30 seconds difference). Idk if its the game, the computer, or both. Thermals aren't an issue. Restarting the game between benchmarks seems to help.

Benchmark 4 took 5-10 minutes longer than i expected.

All things considered i'm fine with the results. I do, however, get the gut feeling that it might be time to upgrade, in a near future.

Thanks for posting this. Probably going for the 12600k now, mb doesn’t have bios flash for 13th gen and no pc place near me can do it for me 🤦‍♂️. Still hoping that ddr5 6000 will give me a few seconds improvement
