87th minute: United charging forward once more. It's Williamson again, he's got substitute David Brown ahead of him, but ohh and he's tackled by the young lad, Will Ellis the substitute for Cardiff and he's hoofed that ball right up the pitch to Matejka on the right hand side, he's got the other young Cardiff sub, Neil Wilmot, in the middle, he finds Wilmott who's about 25 yards out staring down at the United goal... he plays it right to their 3rd sub in Fabio Viana who finds his strike partner McCaffrey just on the edge of the box to his left... Viana's running through in the middle and McCaffrey plays it back to him... he's still got a bit to do with a defender on his case and the keeper to beat...IT'S VIANAAAAAAAAA....OH MY GODDDD!!! HE'S DINKED IT PAST THE KEEPER INTO THE BOTTOM LEFT HAND CORNER AND YOU COULD NOT WRITE THIS!!! THE MAN WHO IS ON LOAN FROM LIVERPOOL, OF A ALL CLUBS, HAS COME OFF THE BENCH LATE ON HERE AT WEMBLEY AND HIS GOAL HAS HELPED CARDIFF COMPLETE ONE OF THE GREATEST COMEBACKS IN WEMBLEY HISTORY!!! IT'S CARDIFF CITY 3-3 MANCHESTER UNITED!!

91st minute: Reece Stannard with a goal kick for Cardiff. He's in no rush to take this. Just 2 minutes remain on the clock between Cardiff and extra-time and you'd have to say the momentum would be with Adam Hart's men in that extra-time. Stannard's kick towards Matejka but Van Der Leegte gets there first, he heads it forwards to Brown who may be able to start something here... Brown looks tired but he just about gets past the blue shirt in-front of him, he plays a hopefull low ball into the box towards Daalmeijer and OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DAALMEIJERRRRRRRRRRRRR FROM OUT OF NOWHERE HAS HIT IT FIRST TIME AND SOMEHOW THE BALL HAS FLOWN INTO REECE STANNARD'S TOP RIGHT CORNER!!! It's an unbelievable goal from Alan Daalmeijer and his 4th goal has given us an unbelievable finish to this match! An absolute heartbreaker for Adam Hart, his Cardiff players and all of the travelling Cardiff fans. It was a famous comeback in the competition for famous comebacks and upsets, but Man United have spoiled the party and reclaimed some pride and dignity by sinking Cardiff right at the last here tonight. It's CARDIFF CITY 3-4 MANCHESTER UNITED

93rd minute: The referee blows for full-time and it's the end of the road for Cardiff, they put up one hell of a fight here tonight, but it's Manchester United, who will take part in the final. The Cardiff players look absolutely gutted, but their fans are giving them a standing ovation and even a fair few travelling Man United fans are giving those boys a well done, with even Frank Lampard in the Youtube Studio, standing up and applauding the fight and desire of Adam Hart's men!

I think it's probably the craziest game of the save so far. I thought it was game over at 3-0 and was pleasantly surprised when we got a goal before half-time, but even then thought they'd bury us in the second half. I don't think Tony Butler has ever scored a free-kick and we rarely score direct ones at all, so I was well pleased when that went in and then went absolutely nuts when Viana equalised late on. The 4th United goal was absolutely gutting even if they probably would've put 2 or 3 past us in extra-time anyway!

April/May

We had a bit of a comedown 4 days after the Semi Final and lost 4-1 to Everton in a really poor result. That loss mathematically made it impossible for us to make the Playoffs, so I put out the second string and young talent against Brentford for the experience, we didn't win but it was good to get them some minutes.

We end the season in 11th and 6 points off of the Playoffs, just about above Swansea too which is good.

Season 35: Cardiff City

690adcef8a74c364e362b699a7424a0a.png

It would've been nice to make the Playoffs but overall I'm fairly happy with the season, especially the excellent run in the FA Cup.

Squad

Between the 3 of them, Afougou, McCaffrey and Madlung scored us the goals we were desperately lacking for most of last season. Kevin Roux had a fairly strong showing in the central midfield role.

Neil Wilmot and Will Ellis both improved with the first team football I gave them this season, keeping hold of Wilmot especially over the summer will be a task but I'm not going to let him go unless a sizable offer comes in.

Darren Fletcher's Man United not only went on to win the FA Cup, but they also won the Champions League, with a 1-0 win against Neymar's Chelsea in Vienna. Neymar did at least have some success in his first season in English football, as his side pipped United to win the Premier League. This means the crazy trend of United/Chelsea swapping the title each year has continued, this is now the 12th year it has happened.

Rio Ferdinand's Wolves side came just 2 points away from making the top 4 in his last season as a manager, but unfortunately for him, Man City ultimately finished 4th, with Arsenal 3rd and United 2nd.

Atletico Madrid pulled off a surprise win of La Liga, which seemed to be the final straw for Real Madrid who sacked Douglas Costa after 6 years in charge, where he only won 1 La Liga, 2 Spanish Cups and 1 Champions League. He's been replaced by former PSG man Hugo Lloris, who has 8 successive Ligue 1 titles to his name. His replacement at PSG was former Porto man Hulk, who won 4 Portuguese Premier League's in the 5 years he spent as their manager.

Bideford came very close to becoming a Football League side for the first time, as they lost in the Conference Playoff final to Crawley Town. It was a similar story for Eversley & California in the Conference South, as they lost in their Playoff final to Forest Green Rovers, who joined Sheppey United in gaining promotion to the Conference.

Transfers

There's been no notable outgoings yet, although I'm not yet at the end of the window so may be faced with a flurry of offers for Neil Wilmot. Kicked up a fuss about Bournemouth being interested in him, but they were only offering £2M so he's not going anywhere unless they offer me £5M and 50 percent of his next transfer.

7a954eaf91c6d6407d8eab3d62dc4d19.png

Madlung of course joins full-time on a bosman from Wolfsburg. We also gain Austrian left winger Manuel Altwicker after Leicester released him, as well as French right back Remi De Freitas who was let go by Watford. Renato Silva joins after not being deemed good enough for Stoke and we make use of our parent club deal with Liverpool to get left back David Vacha in.

Steve Jones and Michael Brooke are young punts I've made, not sure if they'll make it but the scouts rate their potential enough that its worth taking them on as 18 year olds for a few years to see how they do in loan spells elsewhere.

A 2-0 win against League 2 side Dartford with the second string playing.

843036be469020804632e83b38445b47.png

Another decent home tie against League 1 Luton, with the 2nd string again getting through without really facing too much difficulty.

ad4a1d93eacfce4e4d75591fcbaf2786.png

We've not had the easiest of starts, but I'm disappointed to have only got 4 points from 12 so far. The Bolton game was very frustrating as were 2-1 up and should have finished the game off, as it happened, Bolton came back and leveled in the 93rd minute.

A poor 2-0 loss to Burnley puts us out of the League Cup for another year.

We had a few bad games this month against Everton and Burnley again, but we did pick up 3 good away wins without conceding against Leeds, Bournemouth and Coventry.

October

2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses this month. Not terrible form and certainly an improvement on the start of the season, with a 4-0 away win at Swansea certain to gain me favour with the board and especially the fans. The loss at home to Blackburn was poor though as they were 22nd when we faced them.

4a8e0fc591793f680209f5b342940f98.png

3 points off of the Playoffs, but we shouldn't be too far away if we can keep winning games every now and then.

9d3e4fc9d1661c64ca9be6c7c50b56f4.png

This is a real blow though as we're now without Marcus Madlung for 3 months. We're even missing semi-decent youth prospect Brian Smith who is our 5th choice striker, with 3 of them out we are now down to just Tony Butler and Gary McCaffrey until January when I can at least get a loan in. We do have a couple of other younger strikers in the U18s who aren't as good and probably won't ever be good enough to play for a Championship side, but some of those may need to make up the numbers even just as subs for the time being.

The month started well with a 2-1 win against Huddersfield and a 0-0 draw to Hull, we even took the lead very early on against Ipswich and it looked like we could get another win under our belts, but then Ipswich came back and steamrolled us. A disappointing end to November for sure.

2 wins and 2 losses from our next 2 games, with the highlight of this particular period being a late late winner in Essex to sink Colchester United. A disappointing 2-0 loss to Watford ended up being my last ever game as Cardiff manager...

Obviously when you look at it like this it looks like a downwards step, but despite a poor start Wednesday are still only 9 points behind Cardiff. They also made the Playoffs last season and finished 7th the year before, so they've been performing better than Cardiff have been the last few years. I don't think this is a huge step up the ladder by any means, but a somewhat sidestep move was maybe to be expected as I went into this year with my contract expiring at the end of it. Whilst it probably rules out a Playoff venture this season, I'm hoping a change of scenery can improve things and there is a bit more money at Sheffield Wednesday at least.

70d294a7c878d9062a73cfed7ca027a9.png

For example their wage budget is £5.5M a year higher than the previous one at Cardiff.

de47cedf56ddef21db7020f26e3b4c1e.png

Wednesday are also attracting far more fans to watch them play on a regular basis, with on average an extra 17,000 people per game than what Cardiff are getting.

The team is probably slightly better than my Cardiff squad in terms of individual players. There aren't really any players on crazy wages and nobody is on more than the £18/19K cap that the best players I had at Cardiff were - the only real difference is that here there's a few more players on the higher wage bracket, but other than that it's more or less the same, which is good, as I was worried we might have some players on huge wages.

There's a few names I recognize from my time at Cardiff. The main striker is Manuel Jesus Hornero - I actually had him on loan from Southampton 2 years ago and thought he was fairly crap, but Wednesday signed him for £1.3M and he has 20 goals in 35 games in the Championship for them, so what do I know? John Marriott is another familiar name, as I had him for 2 years at Cardiff before we mutually parted terms when we didn't renew his contract at the end of the season a few years back. He's a decent player, not sure he's worth the £18K p/w he's on, but we'll see how he gets on.

Neil Wilmot and Will Ellis are worth poaching, but I don't think I'll have a proper transfer budget until the summer and they could well be gone by then as there was plenty of interest, especially in Wilmot. I kept rejecting the bids that were £1-1.5M as the club could eventually make way more than that off of both of them, but they might just accept them or ones that are way less now. Worth keeping an eye on though.

I've been given a 2 year deal on £5,000 p/w, with the usual 50 percent clause in it. This is the highest I've been paid so far in my career and as of right now it would take a club £200K to snap me up - it only took Wednesday around £60K to get me when they did though, so this figure will drop as my contract gradually expires.

I tried to set-up a parent club for us, but the board said they didn't want to be overly reliant on loan players. I suppose they sort of have a point as 3 of the best players in the team at the moment are players on loan, but we could've done with a Man United/Man City type parent deal as they would've sent us at least 1 valuable squad member a year for nothing. Oh well.

Some interesting developments at the top end of the game over the festive period:

Of course the first thing you notice there is that Stoke, despite having played 3 more games than United, are somehow top of the table at Christmas. They only came 14th last season so they've done really well to be that high up, it's a bit of a reinvention for them and their manager Leighton Baines, who of course won the treble with United 9 years ago but has slowly moved down the table with various clubs since his sacking.

The bigger news though is that despite winning them the Premier League in his debut season in English football, Neymar's poor start to this season has resulted in him getting the sack a week before Christmas! I saw a news article that seemed to suggest Darren Fletcher might turn traitor on United to take the Chelsea job, which is something that Markus Weinzeri did 10 years ago, but in the end, Chelsea actually got in Vedran Corluka, who has been Bayern manager for the last 6 seasons or so, winning 6 Bundesliga's, a Champions League and various cups on the way. Bayern's choice to replace him was an interesting one, I thought maybe they'd get Neymar in since he was available but they actually went for Andre Ayew who was managing Ajax, in the last 2 years he won two domestic trebles and a Europa League with them, so it seems he's reasonably good.

December

We got off to a good start with a 1-0 at home to Brentford, but since then we've lost 2-0 twice in a row, including a really annoying loss to Cardiff. It's never fun to lose to your old side especially so soon after and at home, but I will use the frustration from that loss to get some more from this side in the coming weeks. I'm hoping we can get 1 or 2 loan moves sorted in January too.

I think our squad is too good to go down, but obviously we have to recognize we are down there and could get dragged into it.

Where did that come from?! :D

I had limited expectations when we got drawn against Premier League relegation battling Norwich, but we blew them away. I guess maybe them having no manager did play a part, but still, that's a great win and hopefully will give us the lift we need.

An excellent start to 2052, with 4 wins and 1 loss in the league, as well as the FA Cup win. This change of fortune actually came about from me changing from 4-1-2-2-1 to 4-4-2, so Adam's plan of just sticking to 4-4-2 may well continue for a bit longer.

We're up to 13th and even above Cardiff now!

Surely too late for a run at the playoff places at this stage :(

Out of curiosity, have you ever been mentioned in dispatches as a potential candidate for Premier League jobs yet? I know you haven't *really* done anything to deserve it (cup runs aside), but was just wondering whether these were enough to give you a bump in your profile. Also, what stage are your coaching badges at, in what must now be seen as your dotage?

Yeah I think there's too many points to make up at this point unfortunately.

I did get an interview from a journo at some point last season claiming that Bournemouth (then bottom of the Prem) were interested in hiring me. That's been the only link that I've seen for any Premier League clubs so far. I actually think that with the pop up journo questions, more often than not these are actually made up rumours, because I don't think I've ever been offered a job that has been linked with me that way. I find the "WNT" pop up by my profile as a much more accurate way of seeing what jobs I might get offered, which is interesting as I don't think I've ever had the "WNT" pop up for a club that a journo has linked me with either.

I have a Continental A Licence which I think is one step away from the Continental Pro one which would be the final one. I tried to get Cardiff to let me do this one but they rejected me a couple of times. Wednesday were in about 500K in the red when I took over so I've not been able to ask them just yet, but I'll give it a go in the summer as we should have money in the bank once the TV money and sponsorship money all comes in. I wouldn't be too fussed if they did say no though, as I guess this way when I do get a PL job it will have come because I've got promoted or done something to "earn" it.

February

This could've gone either way but I was pleased to beat Southend 2-0 and progress to the next round, where we will play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

A bit of a weird February. We put in 2 very good performances to kick off the month and continue our reasonably strong form, but then we lost 2-0 at Hull and got tanked by West Brom. I'm hoping it was just a blip as since then we got a good win against Wayne Rooney's Everton side.

1263231a2953e16ab213fdf4a086c5ec.png

It really is a bit of a weird one this year though, as the drop off from 8th down is really big. Even with 12 games left it would be a real achievement for anyone under Everton to get into the Playoffs, to be 14 points back in 10th/11th at this point is pretty mad, but oh well, we can only do our best in the games remaining and build upon that next year.

Just catching up here - good move to Sheff Wed I think. Could you finally make it to the promised land of the Premiership with this one?

Fingers crossed. I think we should hopefully make the Playoffs sooner rather than later!

3 more wins this month, including a 4-1 win at Derby which saw Mustapha Kherbache grab a hat-trick. The one real downer was losing to arch rivals Sheffield United away from home in what was a very tight affair.

7 games to go and we're in 11th place.

Season 36: Sheffield Wednesday

Reasonably happy with this season considering where we were when I took over. Onwards and upwards for next year though.

Squad

Mustapha Kherbache and Manuel Jesus Hornero were our striker partnership, both fairly handy at this level, but I'll certainly still look to see if I can improve in the summer. Karim Arkine was good in midfield too.

Man United were champions one again, with Darren Fletcher's Premier League win now taking him above Sir Alex Ferguson in the Hall of Fame. Vedran Corluka managed to push Chelsea back up to 3rd once he took over in December and he even won them the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid too. Man City finished 6th which saw David Silva promptly sacked and replaced by Carlos Bacca.

Nothing too interesting happened elsewhere, although Eversley & California did finally win promotion to the Conference National after a Playoff final win against Dorking Wanderers.

The 2052 Euros, hosted by Austria and Switzerland, was eventually won by Germany who beat Turkey in the final. Wes Morgan's England side lost 2-0 to Italy in the Second Round, although this was still deemed acceptable enough for Morgan to lead England into the 2054 World Cup, which will be hosted by Russia.

Transfers

We recouped £3.9M in transfers this summer. The majority came from wantaway midfielder Keith Powell who left for Brighton, with RB Paolo Rampulla also pulling in £1M. Dominic Franks also left, with his destination being Falkirk of the SPL.

A lot of bodies brought in over the summer.

Stewart Lattie joins to be our new starting LB after getting released by Celtic. 23 year old right winger Jeroen Hengelman joins after getting released by FC Twente, he's no stranger to English football though having spent the last two years in the Championship at Swansea and Ipswich respectively. Josef Marozi is our new first choice keeper, with the Slovakian joining us after getting let go by AEK Athens. Another guy joining us after being let go by a Greek side is 29 year old Brazilian left winger, Douglas Padilha who got let go by Panaitolikos. Sven Zeinstra is 32 year old Dutch RB, he arrives following his release by Bursaspor of Turkey. Stephen Jay is a very good CB who we've got on loan from Liverpool, although I am a little bit concerned about is "Gets forward whenever possible" trait. Another loan signing is 22  year old Frenchman Christian Collot, who comes from Lyon, he looks a good striker and he got 16 in 32 games on loan at Metz in Ligue 2 last year. The other player who will most likely start every week is Joe Hughes, another young CB who joins us from Liverpool, maybe one day he and Stephen Jay will play together in a Liverpool CB duo, but for this season they will be ours.

Some ok signings there, esp the CB's,

I personally don't rate the LB as he has no pace or crossing ability and I like my Full backs to have those traits, but obv your tactics may be different to mine.

Looking forward to the season starting, hopefully you have a good playmaker CM/AMC to help create some chances too.

2 fairly comfortable wins against lower league opposition in the League Cup. We've got West Brom of the PL in the next round which will provide a tougher test for us.

 1d5e0a8a2134bd7c0bb70b42c270cb20.png

A very ropey start in the league. We got off to a great start at Carlisle then Karim Arkine got sent off for a stupid 2nd yellow in the 28th minute, from there on it wasn't good and despite Carlisle being a poor side even they managed to take advantage of the extra man. We bounced back against a good Middlesbrough side in the next game to win 2-0, from there on I thought the results would come through in the next few games, but we surprisingly lost 4-2 at Gillingham and then Crystal Palace got  the better of us at home. We've beaten Bolton away from home since then. I'm not getting too worried just yet as if we didn't have the silly red card on the opening day we probably would've had  wins from our first 5. We have had 7/8 new players coming into the starting 11 so it may take a little while for them to gel and settle, hopefully we do better next month though.

Not made better by our rivals being top of the league...
