Wouldn't say that was a terrible penalty, keeper had to make a good save still, not all that great though and they've surely got better takers who could've just smashed it home.

Mid-height penalties are the easiest for goalkeepers.

You either do a ground shot or you aim for the top corner.

Rather puts England's performance against Slovakia into context :/

A little maybe but not massively.

Goals change games & Germany got an early one which opened the match up + its a knockout game as opposed to a last group game where Slovakia just needed a point to go through.

I don't think you can really compare them in that regard.

Why not?

Germany would play the same regardless of the result.

They created like a dozen chances and they're a lot better than England at this point.

I'm still baffled as to how Podolski gets game time for Germany. I can see he's an absolute cult hero, an experienced player and must be great for morale in the squad, but surely they have better players? :D

Löw only really uses 14 or 15 players in a tournament. So it doesn't matter who he brings on in such a onesided game. See it as a little reward for class clown Poldi.

I would have prefered Leroy Sane.
