Chippenham 2009/10 Season Review

We came into this preseason with the hope of achieving a safe mid-table position, and to do this we needed to sign some new players. During the transfer window we brought in 16 good players, most of which either went start into the first 11 or on the bench. Some of the other signings, either played for the u-18s or were loaned out to gain some experience. This is shown in the transfer screen (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/transferscreen.jpg).

We started the season with 1 win, 3 draws and 2 losses in the first 6 games which made be slightly worried about what was to come leaving us 19th on the table. The win we had was spectacular, with Waide Fairhurst, scoring a double in stoppage time to see us beat York 4-3 (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/chippenhamvyork.jpg). The bad form continued with us going on a 9 game winless streak, before scrapping a 2-0 win over ST. Albans, but the team is starting to gel together.

A good win against Exeter at the start of October, followed by a couple of important draws, along with good wins against some of the lower teams in the division allowing us to move up to mid table position. During December and January we won 6 league games and only lost 1 game, allowing us to move into 9th position.

February was shaping up as an important month for us, playing both 1st and 2nd, while also playing our rivals for the final playoff position. We lost to Stockport (1st) and crucial draws against challengers for the final playoff spot, Forest Green and Cambridge, both 2-2. Also during February Waide Fairhurst became the clubs highest ever goal scorer (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/BREAKINGGOALRECORD.jpg) passing David Gilroy, who held the record at 60 goals. In March, we continued our march towards a playoff spot defeating Exeter 3-0, and lowly Altrincham 4-3, with 3 draws in between. At the end of March we were 8th, 5 points outside the playoff spots.

We had a great April, with wins against Southport and Oxford, putting us 1 point behind Forest Green in Fifth. We demolished Histon in the next game, 5-1 (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/chippenhamvshiston.jpg), with Waide Fairhurst scoring 4 goals, but Forest Green was able to sneak past Hinckley 3-2, scoring in the 87th Minute to win. So it was down to the final game, us playing Northwich, who were looking to avoid relegation and Forest Green playing Stockport, looking to secure the title. At half time we were winning thanks to a Matty Ritchie strike, while Forest Green where also winning 1-0. We were able to finish off Northwich, thanks to a Jason Norville goal. We had to wait and pray to see the result of Forest Green’s match, and they lost 2-1, meaning we had sneaked into the playoffs.

Our opponents in the playoff semi was Rushden. We had both won at the opposition’s home ground during the year, so this shaped us as a good game. In the first leg at home, we held on to tie 0-0. So it was all up to the second leg, away at Rushden. We had the perfect start, with Matty Ritchie scoring in the 4th, only for Rushden to equalise through Tom Shaw in the 18th minute. We took the lead on the stroke of half time, with Waide Fairhurst finding the net. Rushden equalized straight after the break thanks to Lee Tomlin. The game looked destined for extra time, when Waide Fairhurst popped up, to score in injury time, to send us to the playoff final! (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/playofffinal.jpg) Exeter were the team that was waiting for us in the final, a team we had beaten on both occasions during the year. We took an early lead through Neil Connor and doubled our lead through a Waide Fairhurst strike in the 44th minute, to have a 2-0 lead at half time. Exeter struck back with a Andy Taylor goal, on the 55th minute, but we were able to hold them out winning 2-1 (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/promotion.jpg), meaning we are promoted. This promotion was mainly achieved by going through the final 18 games of the season without losing (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/promotion.jpg).

Top Players
Waide Fairhurst (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/waidefairhurst.jpg):
Waide Fairhurst: Had another great season for us this season, even when I thought that he might become a backup this year. He had a great season for us scoring 38 goals in 55 games with 32 of those goals coming in the league. He scored crucial goals for us all year, especially in our end of season run to the playoffs and finally to promotion. This includes his 2 goals against Rushden and his goal against Exeter in the playoffs to win us both games. Player history (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/fairhuststats.jpg)

Matty Ritchie (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/mattyritchie.jpg):new addition to the squad this year and made his impact whenever he played, either in an attacking midfield role or on the left wing. He was also instrumental in our late season run, both through scoring and setting up goals. Player History (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/ritchiestats.jpg)

Thomas Pinault (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/thomaspinault.jpg): Had a good season, all in all for us, although this is not really showed in his stats. The oldest player in the first XI at 28, his leadership and composure on the ball was important all year which allowed Matty Ritchie to play on the left wing to great effect. Player History (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/pinaultstats.jpg)

Kieran Fitzharris (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/kierankitzharris.jpg): Played well in the defensive midfield, with a high work rate, allowing the attacking players in the team to shine. His ability in this position also allowed Scott Morrison to play higher up the park. Player History (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/kitzharrisstats.jpg)

Joseph Oastler (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/jasonoastler.jpg): Another player picked up for free from Portsmouth, who played consistenly and effiently in central defence. Without him in the backline, we might have conceded more goals this year. Player History (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/josephoastler.jpg)

Honourable mentions must go to Steve Morrison (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/stevemorrison.jpg), John Brayford (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/jasonoastler.jpg) and Chris Goodchild (http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n410/robbie231/chippenham%202009-10/chrisgoodchild.jpg) for their outstanding contributions during the year.

Predictions for next Season
This will be a big step up for us this year, going into League 2. I am just hoping that we can avoid relegation and build on for the year after.

King's Lynn - Blue Square Premier Season 2010-11

Transfers:
Despite making a healthy profit last season, the board didn't deem it necessary to give me any transfer money, so we were looking for freebies again to try and survive the drop in the competitive football conference. With Jarvis and Martin unwilling to make their way to Norfolk, Norwich gave us two season long loans in the form of French winger Stefan Milojevic and former Manchester City striker Darren Huckerby. Throughout the year, we also landed Matthew Fry, Damon Lathrope and the very impressive Danny Sturgess from our parent club to bulk up the team for a tough season.

The big coup in terms of permanent transfers was Oldham's out-of-favour striker Lewis Alessandra who scored thirty in 39 appearances on loan at Stalybridge in 2009-10. Alessandra looked like he would make the perfect pairing up front with Huckerby in a team with a shaky defence. Former Norwich Reserves winger Robert Eagle had appeared on a short-term loan in 2007-08 at the club, and inked a contract with the Linnets to play back up to Milojevic. Among other signings, defensive midfielder Alexis Nikolas and Welsh defender Johnny Hunt were also snapped up on free transfers. In an attempt to sure up a leaky defence, Ian Dunbavin and Matt Mann came in as back up goalkeepers (Dunbavin would leave after just three league appearances and a host of personal problems), whilst veteran defender Peter Hawkins arrived on a free from Ebbsfleet.

Mustapha Hadji remained captain for the third season running but would eventually struggle to keep up - his season hampered by poor form and a debilitating hip injury which kept him out of action for two months. His vice-captain Matt Jackson would take the arm band for a lot of the season - sharing the duties with former VC Sam Tuttnott. (Transfers (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/Transfers.jpg))

The League:
The season started off poorly with two 3-0 thumpings at the hands of Rochdale and Mansfield, before the Linnets picked up their first points in a 3-2 win over Halifax at The Walks. The season proved that the Linnets were largely out of the depth for the most part, but they managed to claim huge victories throughout the year over sixth placed Kidderminster and ninth placed Histon. Coming down the final straight, things looked worrying as we sat just one point out of the dropzone following a humiliating 6-1 thumping at the hands of Northwich with just five games to play - emphasising a dreadful run of nine games without victory. But the Linnets managed to turn things right around to take eleven points from their final five games - including an upset 1-0 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/vsRushden.jpg) victory away at third placed Rushden Diamonds. We end nine points clear of relegation in eighteenth spot - having survived a tough first year in the football conference!

Cups:
After a very impressive cup run last year, which saw us make the third round of the FA Cup, much was expected of the Linnets coming into this season. We made another return to the main draw of the FA Cup but fell this time in the first round to league two side Macclesfield 2-1. However, this season we managed one round further in the FA Trophy after upsetting Kidderminster in the first round away from home, before bowing out 2-0 in the second round to Histon. Again the Linnets made the fifth round of the Setanta Shield, before failing to make the quarter finals with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Forest Green after going up 1-0 and conceding an own goal.

Season Results:
League - 18th (12-13-21) - League Table (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/BSP.jpg) - Media Prediction: 23rd, Bookies Odds: 34-1
FA Cup - 1st Round (1-2 vs. Macclesfield)
FA Trophy - 1st Round (0-2 vs. Histon)
Setanta Shield - 5th Round (1-2 vs. Forest Green)

Players:
Arguably the top player of the season was loan signing Danny Sturgess (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/DannySturgess.jpg) who was very impressive as he switched between the right wing and partnering either Huckerby or Alessandra up front. At just eighteen, his pace was too much for many defences as he scored seven goals and had a hand in three in a season that showcased his real potential. Other loan signing Darren Huckerby (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/DarrenHuckerby.jpg) overcame a sluggish start to the season to score sixteen in 46 appearances in the twilight of his career. Fellow striker Lewis Alessandra (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/LewisAlessandra.jpg) fell away near the end of the season to only finish with eighteen goals all up despite topping the scoring charts at one stage of the year - however he managed to overcome a period of thirteen hours without scoring to be the most reliable striker at the club. Young midfielder Sam Tuttnott (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/SamTuttnott.jpg) continued his rise as a player with an impressive season in the middle - appearing 47 times for the club and scoring four.

FA Trophy - Exeter 1 - 0 Crawley

UEFA Cup - Feyenoord 3 - 2 Inter

Conclusion/Looking Ahead
It was always going to be a tough season without a transfer kitty, and things won't get easier with a very small profit being made after some average cup performances. The season will be considered a success - we were picked to go down and just managed to stay up which is a real bonus in our charge towards league football. We will really need to solidify our defence in the transfer window to make any improvements, which again Norwich's generosity will be the key for our survival. Unfortunately, our captain Mustapha Hadji (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/MustaphaHadji.jpg) and vice-captain Matt Jackson (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/flaminmongrel/2010-11%20KL/MattJackson.jpg) have turned down pleas from me to stay on and will retire - we wish both well in their future. Expect Tuttnott to get the call up as club captain.

A really good season here. 6th place and the Euro Vase. Not too far off a Champions League place either. Arguelles was a legend for me this season, breaking the all time Premiership record for goals in a season.

A new prem record for goals, a magnificent return, and hopefully he'll sign a new deal during the next season, as he'll be vital for us in Europe.

Omar Cisneros (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2019/Cisneros.jpg) - Yet another magnificent season from the young winger. His assists record is brilliant, 24 assists this season, and he played like a demon on the wing.

Season Summary
Delighted with my season. The only down point, once again, is the fact that I cant seem to progress anywhere in the cups. 6th in the league, and could have been better. Need some squad strengthening for next season.

I didn't do a season 1 update with AFC Wimbledon, but I got promoted the first season.

AFC Wimbledon (Blue Square Premier) - 2009-2010 Season

Media Prediction: 24th
Final Finishing Position: 12th
FA Cup: 2nd Round (defeated Hampton & Richmond, and Forest Green. Lost to Leyton Orient)
Setanta Shield: Quarter Final (defeated Stafford, and Grays. Lost to Rushden)
FA Trophy: 1st Round (lost to Rushden)

Transfers:

There was no transfer money given by the board, but they gave a large wage budget so I could some of that money for transfers. I didn't use any of it though, as everyone I got this year was on a free transfer.

Our parent club is Tottenham. They loaned us a few youngsters, including Dag Olsen, Takura Mtandari, and Jamie Davis. I also extended loans this season to Lee Butcher, Cian Hughton, and Jacques Maghoma. Without them, I wouldn't have achieved a mid-table finish.

I also acquired a few players on a permanent contract who helped us with our push. I signed John Challinor on a free from Rushden and contributed with 9 goals and 10 assists in 51 league and cup appearances.

Also signed after successful trials were defenders Tyrone Cameron (former youth player at Fulham) and Dale Bennett (former Watford youngster), goalkeepers James Dalton (from parent club Tottenham) and Shayne Barlow (from Irish side Slingo Rovers), and striker Lewis Young (another former Watford player).

Cameron was a starter from game 1, appearing 52 times for AFC Wimbledon. Bennett contributed mostly off the bench in his 29 apperances.

James Dalton didn't play a game this season, but he will get his chance next season. Barlow was a late addition. He was found by my scout and assistant manager Stuart Cash stated that he would a good signing for most Coca-Cola League 2 sides, so he might stay with us for a while. He did well in his 6 first-team appearances.

Going out the door this season of note were midfielder Gavin Strachan for US$1k to Hampton & Richmond, and goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to Thurrock for US$20k.

The League:

Final BSP Standings (http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=finalstandingstr8.jpg)

The Squad (http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=squadsa9.jpg)

It was a tale of two seasons, or more specifically, our home and away form. Our home (http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=homept8.jpg) record was much better than our away (http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=awayjo8.jpg) record.

We bent but did not break. It was a good season overall, and I hope to push for promotion next year.

Key Players this season:

Dag Olsen (http://img261.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dagolsenxs9.jpg)

A great player throughout the season. The striker just outpaced everyone and banged in goals left, right, and centre. He scored 5 hat-tricks.

Jon Challinor (http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jonchallinorrm0.jpg)

He stepped it up with some vital goals with Olsen was off his game. He bounced back from a terrible season at Rushden where he averaged a rating of 5.84.

Stacy Long (http://img245.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stacylongrk2.jpg)

Led the club with 12 assists this season. He was a bit overworked and started to fatigue at the latter part of the season, but managed to appear in 54 games (49 starts) and succeed on the pitch.

Tyrone Cameron (http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tyronecamerondb6.jpg)

He was our best defender and also one of the best in the league. He finished 4th in tackles per game, and 24th in average rating.

Parent/feeder club(s):

Parent club Tottenham finished in 2nd place in the EPL behind Manchester United. Sunderland, Everton (hehe roberto), and QPR are relegated to the Championship. Spurs lost to HSV in the Euro Cup Semi-Final.

Feeder club Blyth finished a very respectible 12th place in the Blue Square North.

Young attacking midfielder Glenn Hughes will also join us from Grays on a free transfer, along with Jason Morrison. My goal next year is to compete for the playoff promotion spot.

Career with AFC Wimbledon thus far:
Season 1:BSS. Finished in 2nd. Promoted.
Season 2: BSP. Finished in 12th.

I didn't do a season 1,2,3 or 4 update with AFC Wimbledon so I'd better start now :D I'll just post quick summaries for 2008/09 to 2011/12 and then I'll post a mid season update on my 2012/2013 season.

AFC Wimbledon (Blue Square South) - 2008-2009 Season

Media Prediction: 24th (I'm not 100% sure though)
Final Finishing Position: 1st
FA Cup: Third Round
Setanta Shield: Fifth Round
FA Trophy: Fourth Round

Transfers:

I signed alot of players for free in 207/08 that really weren't good enough to be honest, the only freebie of note was Frank Sinclair who was a regular throughout the season. probably the most disappointing transfer was Waide Fairhurst, after all the hype over him I thought he'd be banging them in but he ended up third choice.

It was lucky then that I was given Arsenal as a parent club, the players loaned from Arsenal are the main reason behind my promotion in the first season I'll admit. This was also the beginning of a long, long stay at Kingsmeadow for Pedro but I'll get into that in later updates. I won't go into detail over the loanees here as most of them will be covered in Key Players this season.

The League:

League (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/BSS0809.jpg)

Not much I can say really, we had an easy season and I was pretty damn happy.

Key Players this season:

Vito Mannone - Goalkeeper - Played: 36 - conceded: 24 - Avg. rating: 7.11. Without him I think my defense would have melted judging by the back-up I had.

Rhys Murphy - Striker - Appearances 36 - Goals - 41 - Simply amazing, between him and Fonte we had by far the best attack in the league.

Rui Fonte - Striker - Appearances 51 - Goals - 46 - Said it all in Murphys bit really.

Career with AFC Wimbledon thus far:
Season 1:BSS. Finished in 1st. Promoted.

AFC Wimbledon (Blue Square Premier) - 2009-2010 Season

Media Prediction: 24th (I've been predicted 24th every season :()
Final Finishing Position: 3rd (Promoted)
FA Cup: Fourth Round Qualifying
Setanta Shield: Fifth Round
FA Trophy: Winners

Transfers:

This was a fantastic season for me because of one deal, I actually signed 3 players in 2009/10 that are still with me in League One but there's only really one that sticks out. Robert Smith signed as a fresh faced 18 year old that I didn't even rate that highly, I brought him in as back up. He only played 16 games that season, getting an average of 7.05 but it was the following seasons that would make him into an England international whilst in League One with AFC Wimbledon!

Other than that I brought in a few Arsenal players and one in particular had an amazing season. Rui Fonte, who scored 46 last season, went on to score 72 goals in all competitions this season as he adapted well to his new striking partner Luke Freeman (another loanee from Arsenal) who proceeded to hit 49 in 58. For some reason it doesn't show Pedro or Rui Fonte in as loanees in the transfer bit so I'll post their histories.

Transfers (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/transfers0910.jpg) Rui (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/RuiFonteHistory.jpg) Pedro (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/pedrohistory.jpg)

The League:

League (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/BSP0910.jpg)

This was actually kinda disappointing, we had led the table for a couple of months so to finish 3rd was good but could have been better

Key Players this season:

Rui Fonte - Appearances 58 - Goals - 72 - Assists 18 - Avg. Rating 7.90. I was simply speechless after this season, he was absolutely astounded at how well he performed, sadly though he got a bit bigheaded and refused our third loan offer.

Luke Freeman - Appearances 59 - Goals - 49 - Avg. Rating 7.70. He struck up a lethal partnership with Fonte and would go on to be a vital player for another two seasons after this one.

Season 1:BSS. Finished in 1st. Promoted.
Season 2: BSP. Finished 3rd. Promoted

AFC Wimbledon (League Two) - 2010-2011 Season

Media Prediction: 24th ofc
Final Finishing Position: 17th
FA Cup: Second Round
League Cup: First Round
JPT Trophy: Semi Final

Transfers:

I won't go in to any detail over these signings as none of them really shone this season but I did make quite a few signings that would go on to have a major impact on the club.

Transfers (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/transfers1011.jpg)

The League:

League (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/LeagueTwo1011.jpg)

Going by past experience I was expecting League Two to be a huge jump in quality and I was proven right as we went on to struggle in the bottom 3 for the majority of the season, we were saved only by a sudden run of form that saw us pick up 3 draws and 4 wins in the last 7 games.

Key Players this season:

No one really stood out this season.

Players to watch:

I signed a few players this season that have gone on to be star performers thanks to a couple of hours scouring the market. Here I'll list a few, I won't go in to any details but watch out for their names in my updates as they flourish.

Ciprian Savin, Emre Sahin, Sergio Tejera, John Simpson

AFC Wimbledon (League Two) - 2011-2012 Season

Media Prediction: 24th
Final Finishing Position: 2nd
FA Cup: Fourth Round
League Cup: First Round
JPT Trophy: Final

Transfers:

I was pretty inactive this summer as far as transfers are concerned, the one player to impact the first team was David Mcnamee, my teen right back Craig Davis had been struggling so I bought Mcnamee for a bargain 95k in January, he stayed at right back for the rest of the season but so far in 12/13 Davis is once again the main man.

For the first time I brought less than 4 players in with only Pedro, Freeman and Daryl Wales coming in from Arsenal.

Transfers (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/Transfers1112.jpg)

The League:

League (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/LeagueTwo1112.jpg)

We played well all the way through but looked more likely to get a play off spot until around February when they started to really perform mainly due to Freeman and Sahin returning from injury and the arrival of McNamee.

Key Players this season:

Emre Sahin - CB - Appearances 54 - Goals - 11 - Avg. rating 7.09. Emre was like Lescott for me this season, he sparked a partnership with Ciprian Savin quickly and we soon had the strongest defense in the league.

Sergio Tejera - AMC (mostly) - Appearances - 57 - Goals 19 - Assists 29 - Avg. Rating 7.37. The stats say it all, he was fantastic

Players to watch:

John Simpson - He finally got his break in the 2012/13 season :D

Career with AFC Wimbledon thus far:

Season 2: BSP. Finished 3rd. Promoted

League Cup - 1st Round - out

Looking good for a play off place atm, a fantastic first season in League One.

Transfers:

Mostly just players for back up or the future, Pedersens an exception and has been doing very well so far.

AFC Wimbledon (League One) - 2012-2013 Season

Media Prediction: 24th
Final Finishing Position: 9th
FA Cup: Quarter Final
League Cup: First Round
JPT Trophy: Winners!

January Transfers:

I brought in just one player after November, in March I brought in left back Kelly Youga (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/21KellyYouga.jpg) on a free transfer.

The League:

League (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/LeagueOnefinished1213.jpg)

We were almost dead certs until for a play off place, coming in to the last 5 games we were one point off 6th with 3 games in hand. We then proceeded to collapse and Lose 3 and draw 1 in the last 5 games of the season despite the fact that we had been demolishing teams since February/March.

Key Players this season:

Robert Smith (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/RobertSmith-1.jpg) - 34 assists says it all really, he's been amazing once again and he's destined for greatness, luckily he isn't ambitious so he should achieve that greatness with me :D

John Simpson (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/JohnSimpson-1.jpg) - Couldn't have asked for more in his first season as first choice, a brilliant goals return and he formed a top partnership with Sunu.

Lars Pedersen (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/LarsPedersen.jpg) - He was the defensive rock in our attacking behemoth/

Nabil El Zhar (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/NabilElZhar.jpg) - Stepped into the AMC role superbly, a real talent for the future, I can see him, Simpson and hopefully Sunu getting a helluva lot of goals next year

Highlights:

Our run in the FA Cup, we beat Hucknall 10-0, Aldershot 5-1 and then we took on the behemoths and came out top, we strolled past Everton, and stumbled clumsily past Spurs and QPR before meeting our downfall against Birmingham in the quarter finals.
Our run of 8 wins ina row from 5th January 2013 to 2nd February.
John Simpsons overdue rise into the limelight.
The success of new signings Lars Pedersen and Nabil El Zahr
Winning the Johnstones Paint Trophy
Lowlights:

The run of bad luck/form towards the end of the season that saw us chuck an easy playoff berth away.

Looking to the future:

I've still got a young side that's improving all the time, I'll definitely be looking at promotion this season, also with a balance of £3.5m I'm sure I'll get some money to sit in the bank looking good. Hopefully the board will improve the facilities and the stadium, a club trying for the Championship really needs a stadium that holds a bit more than 4700.

Career with AFC Wimbledon thus far:
Season 1:BSS. Finished in 1nd. Promoted.
Season 2: BSP. Finished in 3rd. Promoted
Season 3. League Two. Finished in 17th
Season 4. League Two. Finished 2nd. Promoted.
Season 5. League One. Finished 9th

roberto922
24-08-2008, 10:49

Oh, and question for you Dafuge: How the hell did you get Prescot Cables promoted? Sheer luck?

On a similar topic, has anyone ever seen Kendal Town promoted? I guess it would be very unlikely as they were only promoted to the Unibond Premier in 2006, but i'd love to have a go at managing them before FM09 comes out.

I took part in this challenge with Gateshead in '07, but I fancy managing a much smaller club this time. If not Kendal then probs Whitby or North Ferriby United.

If he didn't have a club since 2010 he probably would've retired. Plus he wouldn't accept a wage as low as you're paying him.

If he's been without a club, the chances are he wouldn't be eligible for a work permit as he probably wouldn't be playing for Brazil. He could get one on appeal on the grounds of being a quality player though.

His physical attributes still look pretty good for a 31 year old who hasn't played for 3 years, he should rip League 1 to bits.

So in my 30th year with Marine, I'd need a good season to save my job - the board are unhappy that I have failed to win the title in the last two seasons, conveintly forgetting the 5 in a row I won previous to that. (Two of them having been within this contract).

So with most of my team sold within the last couple of seasons, there wasn't many players left to sell - Academy defender Slater was sold to Southend for £2m, as he was only Championship standard, Scottish DM Dean King joined Chelsea for £20m - it was arranged last season, but delayed until the end of the season, as £20m is a lot for a backup player. I let Italian Winger Radice return to Italy to Palermo for £12m, Swedish Attacker Zlatan Safari joined Brighton for £11m (twice his value) whilst youngsters Michael Taylor (£7.5m to Sheff Utd) and Francesco Di Somma (Grimsby ~£1m) were sold as they hadn't developed aswell as I'd hoped, other sales were just Academy players who were never going to make it in the Premiership.

It was a busy season transfers inwise (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3919/transfers1ck2.jpg), as I went about rebuilding my youth squad, as my scouts spotted quite alot of talent in Scandinavia, France and South America, and with a few more South American's arriving once they turn 18 - including a 15yo Argentine centre-back who got a work permit!

On the pitch the season didn't get off to the best of starts, in the Champions League Third Qual. Round we drew Czech side Slavia Prague and we struggled to a 1-0 win in Prague, however the second leg went horribly wrong as my young second string defence went walkabouts as Slavia Prague beat us 4-2 (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5691/uclq3l2wb7.jpg) at home with only having four attempts at home, sending us crashing out of the Champions League before it had even started.

We were also struggling in the league - whilst for the most part changing to 4-3-3 had shored up the defence we were struggling to mount any kind of attack.

So another change in formation was needed, this time I tried moving the wingers upfront with side arrows, and dropping the striker to the AM position and giving him a free role - this worked for a couple of games, with Nelson and Rowlands excelling in the position, however the game didn't like this and they both suffered injuries that would keep them out for a month.

So after that I went back to basics - read the TT&F08 thread from wwfan in the Tactics forum and created two 4-4-2 formations: a balanced version, and a counter one that I switched to to defend a lead - that seemed to work as we started to grind out 1-0 wins and after 28 games we were third only one point behind second placed Newcastle and 11 behind leaders Arsenal.

However we then started to fall behind due to cup games - by the time it took us to play our 29th game, nearly everyone else had played 31 games, leaving us down in fifth.

After suffering the embrassement of being knocked out of the Champions League early, we at least didn't repeat it in the UEFA Cup. The First Round saw us face Swedish side Elfsborg, a double from Norwegian Striker Kopperud was enough to win the first leg 2-0, and in the second leg Kopperud scored a double again, having my Centre-Back Sadler sent off after 30mins spurred my team on and we claimed a 5-1 agg win.

The UEFA Cup group stage was a walk in the park, against teams I'd faced in the past - Litex (6-1), Benfica (2-0), D.kiev (2-0) and Zenit (1-1).

Whilst at the same time we'd embark on another Carling Cup run - we needed a 90th minute goal to beat Huddersfield 2-1 in the Third Round, the 4th Round saw us beat Leeds 2-1, the Quarter Final saw us make the trip down to Plymouth who we beat 3-1 setting up a semi-final against Spurs.

Yet again we struggled in the first leg (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3339/carlingsfl1ac7.jpg) of the semi-final only managing a 1-1 home draw, however in the second leg (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8161/carlingsfl2qy8.jpg), we came out firing in the second half, after going a goal down and ended up winning 3-1, even being reduced to 10men didn't stop us - there's a slight irony in the fact that we can only beat Spurs with 10men, we'd smashed them 5-0 on New Year's Day in the League after having Midfielder Cioni sent off after 14mins. In the Carling Cup Final we'd face Wolves who'd managed to come back from a 2-0 first leg defeat to Man Utd, beating them 7-2 in the second leg! - first we had the small matter of the FA Cup and UEFA Cup:

The Third Round of the FA Cup would see us face Bolton for the 6th time in the FA Cup - this year the game was a lot more even than the 8-1 thrashing they gave us a couple of season's ago - we claimed a 3-2 win after being 3-0 up within 50mins.

The FA Cup 4th Round would see us make the trip to New Anfield a couple of days after booking our Carling Cup Final place, and we needed a 90th minute goal (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8996/fa4rs4.jpg) from Davide Gherardi to claim a 3-3 draw, though a replay was not what I wanted.

This meant the month of February would be spent playing Cup games, first up was the replay against Liverpool (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/4662/fa4replaypn0.jpg), that saw us just about beat them 4-3. Next up was a trip to Romania to play Steaua in the UEFA Cup First Knockout Round, and our inability to break them down, saw Steaua claim a 1-1 draw with a 90th minute goal.

Before the Second leg we'd take on Southend in the FA Cup 5th Round, and we were now struggling, my team seemed to lose all ability in front of goal - the buildup play was good, however the final shots were scuffed, or somehow fired wide or over when it was easy to score, and basicaly when we managed to score in the second half I was switching to my Counter Formation, and shutting up shop and trying to hold on for a 1-0 win - it worked for the most part, my defence went back to being rock solid as we beat Southend 1-0, we then beat Steaua 3-0 as I tried to rest players for the Carling Cup Final - Interestingly the Home game against Steaua attracted ~75,000 fans, but the FA Cup game against Liverpool only attracted ~56,000 (even a league game against Millwall attracted ~75,000).

The Carling Cup Final (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/9451/carlingfinalkq0.jpg) against Wolves was a low key affair, Wolves never had a chance and it was a case of when we'd win it - we actually won it early for a change Nelson scoring the only goal of the game in the 86th minute - the first Carling Cup I've won without needing extra-time.

So we claimed our Third Carling Cup in five years, not that it impressed the board.

And having not played in the League for a month, we'd spend March and April playing twice a week to catch up.

When the UEFA Cup 2nd Knockout Round Draw was made it was no surprise we got an English side - there were 7th of us in the draw, but none in the Champions League, after Arsenal fell in the First Knockout Round.

We again struggled in the First Leg (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1295/uefak2l1ho2.jpg) - ex-player Zlatan Safari scored for Brighton, before Nelson equalised leaving the game to end 1-1.

Before the second leg we'd face Doncaster in the FA Cup 6th Round, whom my second string side smashed 4-1 setting up a semi-final against Arsenal.

Back in 'Europe' Simon Barrow scored the only goal of the second leg (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/6061/uefak2l2zv6.jpg) from the spot in the 6th minute, setting up a Quarter Final against Newcastle.

Back in the league we were still several games behind everyone else, and a 2-2 drew against third placed Bolton didn't help. A 5-0 win over Wolves thanks to a Rowlands hat-trick finally put us back into second place, however we were 10pts behind Arsenal with 8 games left, and 4 behind Newcastle but with a game in hand. However we lost what ground we'd made up losing 3-0 to Brighton.

Then the fixture people decided to end what little hopes of sucess we had this season - on the Thursday Newcastle smashed us 4-2 in the UEFA Cup (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7227/uefaqfl1ou8.jpg), thanks to an hat-trick from my ex-player Cristobal Michel (thanks a lot Chairman).

Then on the Saturday we'd face Arsenal in the FA Cup Semi-Final (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/9718/fasemizc0.jpg), but despite being in control of the game we just couldn't score and Arsenal would claim a 1-0 victory.

But things were to get worse, on Tuesday we'd face Chelsea in the League, before playing Newcastle again on the Thursday. Luckily my second string managed to beat Chelsea 1-0, I'd also at this stage been reduced to recalling several players from loan who I'd rather not be playing yet, due to most of my players being knackered.

In the UEFA Cup we just needed a 2-0 win to go through on away goals - however it wasn't to be (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1548/uefaqfl2yc2.jpg), we attacked Newcastle for the whole game as they just sat back and defended, but we couldn't add to the goal Nelson scored on the hour, sending us out of Europe :(

In the End Newcastle with 8 men claimed the UEFA Cup on pens over Man City (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3525/uefafinalhg3.jpg) (who'd knocked out Slavia Prague in the Semi-final!)

So we were now out of the FA Cup and Europe, leaving just the league, on the weekend we ground out a 1-0 win over Southend, but after 33 games we were still only fourth - two points behind 3rd placed Newcastle, 11 behind leaders Arsenal and three behind Bolton who'd played two more games than us - the teams around me just weren't losing.

And our title hopes were ended after we could only draw 2-2 away to Plymouth, whilst we at least made Arsenal wait a week for the title after having held them to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.

One thing I would like to know is why earlier in April I was forced to play Thur-Sat-Tue-Thur-Sat, when there was a free Saturday between the Plymouth and Arsenal games - actually looking back there nearly always seems to be a free week in April, so why do I always have to play twice midweek earlier on in April?????? (I get the Sat-Mon easter fixtures, but since when was that week also FA Cup/European week?)

After beating Sheff Utd 2-1 in game 36 we finally climbed above Bolton into third, however we were now 6pts behind second placed Newcastle with two games to go.

And as is typical with nothing to play for my strikers turned up in the last two games - away to WBA after being 2-0 down with 8mins we responded drawing level by half-time and finishing up beating them 5-2, whilst on the last day a Nelson hat-trick helped us to a 5-1 victory over Liverpool - it's a shame my players didn't play like that earlier in the season when it would have made a difference.

Final Table (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1057/tablemh0.jpg) - Weird season this season, with everyone drawing many games, but again Arsenal were unstoppable, our main problem was we just couldn't get any sort of run together - 4 league wins in a row was our best. Relagated Grimsby put up more of a fight than expected considering the season before last they were in League One.

Pos Graph (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/641/poslu0.jpg) - Shows we were never in a title race, spending the second half of the season 2-4 games behind didn't help. Though I was somehow runner-up in the Manager of the Year award. (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/6378/motyec6.jpg)

Squad (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1335/squadce4.jpg) - It was a mixed season, Keeper Alessi again wants out, Right-Back Gianluca Wilkinson (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/74/wilkinsonwr7.jpg) also wanted out demanding first team football, apparently 17 games wasn't enough for him.

My main defenders Smith-Ramos-Johnson-Romeo were in fine form for most of the season, whilst two English Youngsters providing cover - Ryan Sadler and Michael Angus impressed, the problem being I have to decide whether they are full-backs or centre-backs.

In the centre of midfield Italians Vito Coini and Davide Gherardi continued their partnership. Providing cover Brazilian Jose Gomes (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5867/gomesyi6.jpg) had a good season, but started moaning about having achieved all he can at the club after being a squad player for two seasons and having won nothing, after Newcastle showed an interest, and my chairman sold him to Cagliari for ~£16m. Behind Gomes was promising Romanian Sergiu Barta (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3714/bartafg9.jpg), and new signing Joao Francisco Santos da Silva (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/4720/dasilvawh3.jpg) who joined from Cruzeiro at the start of the season, and found himself thrown in at the deepend when I had a few injuries and had an impressive season, and I had high hopes for him.

It was a mixed season out on the wings - Portuguese Forward Nelson (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1759/nelsonlv4.jpg) initialy started on the right, but didn't do well, and found himself in the hole and then upfront as I changed formations so a goal every two games from the youngster isn't bad. Promising Youngster Ray Spence (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/4255/spenceud1.jpg) was also given a chance on the right and upfront as I try to find his best position.
Simon Barrow (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/9272/barrowls3.jpg) spent most of the season switching between the wings, as Matt Taylor is my only real left winger after Cameroon Winger Christian Onana (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/9538/onanaus0.jpg) proved more trouble than he was worth - he was signed from one of my feeders a few years ago, and spent the last few years out on loan getting a work permit, he comes in this season and demands first team football straight away, but he failed to impress when given a chance so I let Arsenal have him for £10m.

Upfront was a problem this season as I rotated through my goalshy Strikers trying to find one that was in form. Luke Rowlands (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8276/rowlandsdl8.jpg) had a poor season by his standards, injures didn't help him either, Norwegian Per Kopperud (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1082/kopperudgn8.jpg) had a fine start to the season but faded as the season went on, Oliveira (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5660/oliveiraby4.jpg) either scored a couple or was awful when called upon. Whilst young Portuguese Striker Luis Cosme (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8549/cosmehp6.jpg) who was signed from Sporting for £6k at the age of 15, had the best shots to goals ratio of my team scoring goals for fun in the cups.

Though there was some bad news as club legends Emmanuel Richard (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5143/emmanuelrichardpj9.jpg) and Eduardo Lasarte (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8669/eduardolasarteyb5.jpg) both decided to retire this season, and despite saying they'd stay in the game for several years, both retired and disappeared :(

Club Info (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/3188/clubinfoeq4.jpg) - We hit the £2B mark, whilst we now have the biggest club stadium in England.

Whilst it appears that the Carling Cup Victory may not be enough to save my job, with my assistant being linked with my job. (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/6601/nocontractqx0.jpg)

It appears the broken Confidence Screen (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/250/confidencexj2.jpg) may be my downfall - I exceeded the Long Term goals, by claiming the title twice in the first two years of the two year plan. The Champions League I went out in the Third Qual. Round not the second, whilst I was knocked out of the FA Cup and UEFA Cup by the teams who won them, who are also the only two teams who have challenged me recently (also having to play 4 games, three of them these games in 7 days didn't help matters).

And a week before my contract expired the board decided to fire me (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/382/firedoo6.jpg), (I like how the news of me being fired doesn't even warrant going to my inbox, I had to goto the Premier League news screen to find the message, also rather disappointed their is no mention of the fact that I have been their for 30years, and no complaints/comments from the players or fans, at least several of my staff members walked out with me, including ex-players Danny Naylor, Selva and Volkov :))

Final Overall Best XI. (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/8110/bestxiqt5.jpg)

Whilst for some reason despite being the only World Class Manager in the game, I am not good enough for Conference sides Stevenage or Fleetwood?

My time at Argentina didn't go to well, losing in the Copa America Semi-final due to having 7 of my 23 players out injured. And after being fired as the Marine manager I didn't feel the desire to continue.

So I've now got to decide what to do next - taking over a new BSN/S side in this save isn't looking likely as the same teams just keep on coming up, 34 of the 66 feedrer teams have never played in the BSS/N (That doesn't even include the teams that been in a league IRL but not in game), even Crewe haven't been promoted yet after being relagated several years ago.

So after 11,326 Days and 7 PremierLeague Titles, The League One Title, the Blue Square Premier and North Titles, One FA Cup, Three Carling Cups, 8 Community Shields, Two Champions Leagues, Two Super Cups and Two Club World Cups I get dumped for winning two titles in five seasons.

And if anyone is interested the Tables in ~30 years time:

Marine Under the computer

So with me fired the board decided to appoint Steve Goodwin - a guy who could only manage a mid-table position with Man City and Liverpool, and who I beat 5-1 in my last game, and over the next three seasons he proceeds to sell off nearly all of the promising U18's I've signed for next to nothing, he then proceeds to flog most of the rest of the promising players I've amassed for next to nothing, about the only good bit of business he's done is get £10m for an Academy Striker. He even let first teamers like Nelson go for peanuts. He also seems unable to loan out Work Permit players to Belgium, either leaving them in the reserves selling them or loaning them to Denmark, that takes even longer than England to gain second nationality!

And so far he has done no better than I was doing - he's had a second and third finish in the league, he's won the Carling Cup once, but hasn't made the UCL or FA Cup Finals, and even lost the Community Shield, yet his job appears safe?

In his third season he somehow managed to win the league, but then in his fourth season he did his best to get Marine relagated, eventually finishing 14th, with his job apparently safe. It also appears the Marine chairman really really hates me - I declared an interest in the job, and he responds saying he'll never consider me for the job, which is a bit weird considering my reputation is still World Class (still the only one) which means it's still better than the clubs.

Though one thing that was weird as I holidied through the game, was the expectations of some teams - Newcastle wanted me to win the Premier League in two years! (They haven't even come close in 15years), whilst Darlington wanted me to be a major player in the BSP in three years - they were currently in the BSN and had no money.

Oh and I still cannot get the England job, it appears turning it down back in League Two? as an unknown manager has blacklisted me.

Michaeltmurryuk - your last post was amazing - it was one of your earlier posts that led me to do this challenge - I've just started with Chippenham - and it is uite a challenge for me as I never usually have the attribute masking on (I know, copout!) - but I'm sticking to all the rules for this - the dedication you have showed to this challenge is unbelievable and I only hope to stick with it like you have - a couple of uestions tho - how long has it taken you to get to that last season (what was it, 2038 or summit?) and were there any points where you thought of giving up and starting over? Also, what good advice would you give to everyone trying the challenge? P.S. good luck to everyone else on the challenge!!!

Razer82 – Guiseley – Blue Square North

I’ve decided to finally have a stab at this challenge as I’m finding it hard to settle back into my Gundo game since going away.

So here I am (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Profile.jpg), the new manager of Guiseley (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/TeamInfo.jpg). My squad (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/StartingSquad.jpg) is rather bear to being with which means a large amount of searching for players before the season begins.

And I thought that I was having problems! My scouts have been working for over 2 months and not come up with a single player, but at least I'm able to put out a side with all players in their correct positions. Hopefully you'll be able to find some players worth signing soon.

Managed to get myself Leeds as a parent club, even though the fee from Burnley was more. I think in future Leeds will be more beneficial to us, that's if they manage to go up in the second season.

That is very makeshift then. I was only able to make sure I had a full sqaud by going through all the unattached players and brining them in on trial. Even then some of my signings were just to have someone to act as a back up in case of injuries.

Started this challenge yesterday after thinking about it for a while. Gone with Gateshead, currently 13th in BSN after 24 games. Assembled a reasonable starting 11 but stuffed once injuries or suspensions come around. Best signing got be 19 year old goalkeeper, who is keeping me in most games. Scoring seems to be the big issue despite signing a couple of aging former professional strikers. Top scorer plays on right wing! Ticking over nicely for now though, good string of results could yet see a late playoff push

no the directors have placed a transfer embargo on me when i only have 14 players with 2 of them injured 9 games into the season. Was hoping to make a few more loan signings and free transfers

Same thing has happened to me at Whitby only 3 games into the season (2 wins, 1 loss so far). Irritatingly this meant that when I wanted to play one of my greyed out youth players I couldn't even offer him a contract or select him for the senior side.

Thankfully before the proposed takeover the board offered me Hartlepool or Middlesbrough as parent clubs. I went with Boro and got striker Tom Craddock (http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee339/dewhirstp/screenshot1-1.jpg) and defender Rhys Williams on loan - both great squad additions.

Worryingly I also recieved this (http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee339/dewhirstp/screenshot2.jpg) message prior to the transfer embargo. Should I be worried?? I checked out Leon Hay's profile... he looks like a right tw*t to me! :p

Shocking news there Michael, it really does appear that you are a victim of your own success. It just goes to show what I thought a long time ago, it is a lot more difficult to dominate the English game with a small club with this version.

Just completed first season with Gateshead in BSN

Finished 9th with 57 points and goal difference of -7. Was hoping to push for playoffs but considering the lack of depth to my squad and the vast number of injuries and suspensions, I figure it was a respectable finish. Somehow had 3rd best defence in league but also second worst goalscorers. Went out in the first round of the Setanta Sheild, 3rd round of the FA Trophy and 4th qualifying of the FA cup. Firepower was a major issue and will definitely be my main area for improvement over the summer.

Top scorer was Steve Akers who arrived in November on a free, scoring 14 goals in 25+2 apperances, followed closely by Scott Hunter, also free with 12 goals from 27+11 apperances. After that noone else reached double figures but I did have 12 different scorers over the season.

Signed a total of 19 players over the season, all for the grand total of £0. Found it suprisingly difficult to get anyone in on loan even from League 2 clubs! The one player I did get in on loan was sent packing after getting injured for 4-5 months in only his second game.

Highlight (of which there were very few) was probably travelling to Alfreton to find myself 2-0 down at half time then leaving it until the last 5 minutes to win 3-2. Lowlight was the 6-1 thumping in 4Q of FA Cup. Despite it being to Crawley of the BSP, it was still pretty embarassing to go down that heavily in front of the home fans.

Hoping to push on next season for a playoff play but a lot of work needed over the summer, hopefully a quality striker and a complete overhaul of the midfield.

I've been participating in this challenge for a long time now but haven't really done any updates as I generally don't have the time to upload the screenshots etc.

Anyway, after almost 25 seasons as Gateshead manager I'm calling it a day and off to start a brand new game and a brand new challenge. With that in mind I felt I couldn't just end this fantastic challenge without some sort of update. So here it is.

In my first few seasons with Gateshead I struggled quite a lot, finishing mid table in my first season in the BSN before dropping towards relegation and flirting with the sack in the second season. This was mainly down to the fact that I'd started the challenge when the 8.0.1 patch was released and it took me a couple of seasons to get my tactics working. Season 3 seemed to be the time when they did work and my 4-1-2-2-1 tactic suddenly burst into life and I finished top of the BSN.

My next season was ok and I consolidated in the BSP before winning automatic promotion the season after that. Things were looking rosy, 5 seasons gone and I was up into League 2. Happy days.

Unfortunately progress halted somewhat after that. The main problem I had was attracting players, as despite turning professional not may people wanted to move to the bright lights of Gateshead, so I found myself stuck at the bottom end of the league 2 table for 3 straight seasons. I was beginning to lose hope.
Fortunately at the end of that season two things happened that completely changed my fortunes; the first being the fact that my board finally found me a parent club, after only 5 seasons of asking. The club in question was Sunderland and the players I managed to loan from them became invaluable in my teams turn of fortunes.
The second was the fact that I stopped listening to my assistant when it came to which players would actually be willing to come to me on loan. Up until this point I'd been asking my assistant to filter out unrealistic targets in the player search screen. From the list of useless players left I scouted as many as possible looking for players to loan. Unfortunately all of the players that my assistant claimed would be interested were pure cack. So I unchecked the 'Ask Assistant to Filter Out Unrealistic Targets' option and scouted as many £500k to £1m pound players as I could and attempted to loan a fair few of them.

I found that many of these players actually were willing to ply their trade at Gateshead for a few months, or even a season, particularly if the clubs they belonged to were geographically quite close to Gateshead. So I ended up getting some good loans from Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland and these were the catalyst for a new dawn for Gateshead and we quickly started our march up the tables.

So my 4th season in League 2 finished with me as champions and it was off to League 1. More loan signings that season saw me finish 4th and progress to the playoff final, which I won after a nail biting penalty shootout. So it was now 2016 and I was in The Championship.

My first season there was pretty unspectacular, finishing 15th and doing nothing in the cups really. However, because much of my top players were usually loan signings I'd been saving money and now had a decent amount in the bank. Unfortunately, rather than give it to me for transfers the board decided to spend it on a stadium expansion. The good news was that the amount of work required meant I would have to groundshare for a season. And by some stroke of genius the board had managed to persuade parent team Sunderland to let us use The Stadium of Light for a season!

So with Gateshead supporters flocking to the Stadium of Light in their thousands to watch us play we managed a second place finish in the Championship and we were suddenly heading for the big time.

Strangely the ground share with Sunderland caused a bit of a strange occurrence. Our average attendance for the season was actually higher then what our own ground could hold so the board decided to expand it again and have us spend a second season sharing with a Sunderland team who were no longer our parent club. Now they were league rivals.

We went into our first Premier League season badly needing to strengthen the squad, the overuse of loan players meant I had some money but not enough players that were actually contracted to Gateshead. I had a very good spine in the team that had actually been there since my first season in the championship when my scouts had turned up some players they rated highly for the future. With my training facilities and coaches improving I could start to see that they were right and I had two very promising defenders; a Czech right or centre back named Patrick Salek and another right or centre back name Yuri Afanasenko. On top of this I had two very promising English midfielders, John Roberts (who along with Salek had actually been with the club since League 1) and Peter Jarman. While they were all very talented they were however very young and I lacked a decent striker and goalkeeper for starters.

So after doing my best to fill the holes in the team I just managed to avoid relegation to finish 16th in my first season. To be honest I was very happy with this and it gave me the platform I needed to build on.

After that I spent season after season building my team up until in 2025 I won my first Premier League title, 9 years after first getting into The Championship. It would be another 2 years before I won my first Champions League and 2 more years after that before I won them both in the same season. So officially I completed the challenge in 2029.

Some other interesting things happened along the way though. Peter Jarman turned out to be a real find and in the end moved to Aston Villa for £25m, an offer the chairman felt was too good to refuse. It cost me £40m to buy him back 2 years later as he had become described as 'World Class midfielder'. John Roberts stayed faithful to Gateshead and became an excellent midfielder for both the club and England. Salek and Afanasenko both showed a rare loyalty and stayed with the club. Now 33 they are both still there and Salek holds the club record for appearances with 423.

Some time after the first premier league win the board decided it was time for a new stadium. There are two things I've wanted to happen since FM07 came out, the first being that I get a son in the game and the second being a stadium named after me. So when news of the new stadium was announced I was certain that it would be named after the manger that had taken Gateshead from nothing to a household name in only 20 seasons.
But no, the board in their infinite wisdom decided to name the stadium after some guy named Paul Thompson. Ok, so at that time he did hold the record for most appearances for the club at 393, but these appearances had all been when the club was in the football basement. To say I was a little miffed that this nobody had been chosen for the name was an understatement. Incidentally I've not had a son in the game either!

So there it as, after 2029 I carried on for a few more seasons, setting little personal challenges such as turning my team into an all English one. But I'm going to finally leave Gateshead and start a new challenge. It has without a doubt been my most enjoyable CM/FM campaign ever, so thanks to Dafuge for coming up with the challenge in the first place.

First season over and i have been promoted via the playoffs after finishing 2nd 1 point off the leader dorchester.

The season started off terribly with a 4-0 defeat to welling. This was followed e by 2 draws and 3 defeats in the ext 5 games. We then started picking up points more consistantly with 9 league draws in a row. Unfortunately during this run we suffered defeat in the fa cup 3rd qualyfying round. We got two wins to carry on our unbeaten league run before losing 3-1 to thurrock. this was followed by a 5-1 hammering of weston super mare in the setanta shield before defeat to workington in the fa trophey. We then got 12 league wins in a row but unfortunately dropped out of the setanta shield. A draw against AFC wimbledon brought to an end our winning league run but we got back to form with 5 more wins. Defeat to basingtoke and a draw at Hayes dropped us from 1st to 3rd 1 point off the top 2. A 2-0 win over thurrock moved us to second 1 point off first. we then won all our emaining games including a 6-2 win over braintree but it was not enough as dorchester also won all there remaining games. we were up against st albans in are playoff semi final and a 2-1 away win put us in good stead. we followed that up with a 1-0 home win. We went into the final at aldershots ground as second favourites desppite finishing ahead of opponents cambridge city. we proved the pundits wrong by finishing the first half 3-0 ahead, and winnig 4-1.

league 2nd promted
fa cup 3rd qualyfying round
setanta shield 3round S
FA trophey 3rd qualy round

The squd definitely needs improvements though as last season i only had 1 keeper for all but the first 3 months of the season. No back up as well at LM CB and RB. The lack of strength in the squad was clearly shown when my new batch of u18s arrived as one of them was good enogh to go straight into the first team if it wasnt for the fact he's 15. It could be a long hard season ahead for us if i struggle again to bring in the players

One major dissapointment though is my ass man refuses to sign a new contract

How big were the stadium expansions, and how much did you have left?

You should holiday it for 20 years, see if the AI can keep them at the top.

chopper99, excellent story!

How big were the stadium expansions, and how much did you have left?

The expansions were about 7,000 seats each time, which lead to us needing to move. I thought this was a nice touch and it was great to have it happen in my game. The expansions didn't leave me too broke, mainly due to the revanue brought in from the extra fans who wanted to watch Gateshead in the Premier League and now had a stadium to accommodate them.

You should holiday it for 20 years, see if the AI can keep them at the top.

This is a good idea and something I might look into doing if I can actually bring myself to click that 'resign' button :)

Hendon (Blue Square South) 2008/2009

Media Prediciton 21st
Final league Postion 3rd
Fa Cup 3rd Qual Round
Setanta Shield S1st Round
FA Trophy 2nd round

Started with tiny squad 5 or 6 players at the most, got Arsenal as parent club and got Randall and Dunne on loan. Next went through free agents for a long time picking out players with potential. I brought in a total of 18 players for 18k.

League
Started off great and we're keeping up with the leaders for first couple of months but then hit round November and the team just fell apart and we couldn't score a goal. we dropped rapidly but only down to 7th. By Feb/March we were sitting joint 6th with a game in hand on the last playoff place. Unfortunately the bottom team managed to defeat us 5-4 and mean we fell behind again. after searching every where for a decent striker, i gave up just when my two strikers partnership clicked! Tom Clarke and Chukki Eribenne were amazing in the run in. And with the help of them helped us acheive 3rd place and quite comfortably in the playoffs! Our main problem during the season was defending, with over 100 goals scored and a average of over 3 per game we were conceding just over 2 a game!
http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq345/PSJMcNeill/BlueSquareSouthStages.jpg
Playoffs
Semi final saw us take on AFC Wimbledon, the 1st leg saw us go 1-0 behind at half time!
But a superb fightback saw us take a 4-2 lead into the second leg :D
The second leg was a walkover with a 5-0 victory without much threat from AFC.

The Final
Hendon V St Albans
In the only two previous meetings we had, we took a 1-0 win and a draw, but were both even games.
So when Bradley jones put us infront things were looking good only for Albans to score 2 in the dieing minutes of the first half. As time ticked on i was throwing everyone forward without much success, but in the 71st min, Eribenne scored from 25 yards to take the game to extra time. Extra time didn't see much action until the 110th min when james Dunne met a cross to make it 3-2, after that everyone was made a defender. As the final whistle went it was confirmed we would be playing in the conference next season :D
http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq345/PSJMcNeill/HendonvStAlbansOverview.jpg
So major strengthening to be done! but an excellent season just slightly weak at the back!

Also my left full back from France picked up just over 20 yellow cards no idea why it was just him

Need to pick up alot of money from our promotion with club in debt and over the wage budget!

But heres to the next season!

Players of the Season

Raul Arguelles (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2019/Arguelles.jpg) - As you can see from the above awards, Arguelles was quite outstanding this season.

English Footballer of the Year - Raul Arguelles (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2019/arguellesfootblleroty.jpg)

Players of the Season

Raul Arguelles (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2019/Arguelles.jpg) - As you can see from the above awards, Arguelles was quite outstanding this season.

I'm off to a storming start, 3 wins out of 3 and we look like favourites for the League One title at the moment.

Yeah if we can have a start and end anything like our middle last season we can run away with it

EDIT: Just beaten Championship side Nottm Forest in the LC 2nd Round, before this season the furthest I'd ever got was the 1st round every season lol

I've been playing Gundo's challenge, but I really want to complete this before FM09 comes out because i've played this challenge for the last two yaers and it always gets the better off me! So I'm going to run it along side my Gundo challenge.

So here I go again

TBH Darren I've tried both and this is much more enjoyable for me, Gundos is too difficult to go in and out of.

Also for some reason I'm looking forward to writing my mid season review :)

EDIT: And now onto 1st September, one of my two favourite dates :D

Real London Update - Season 20 (2027/2028)

Premiership Prediction - 19th
Premiership Position - 6th
F.A Cup - 3rd Round
League Cup - 2nd Round

Premiership - Graph (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2019/LeagueGraph.jpg) | Table (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2019/LeagueTable.jpg)

A really good season here. 6th place and the Euro Vase. Not too far off a Champions League place either. Arguelles was a legend for me this season, breaking the all time Premiership record for goals in a season.

Oh well I'll use the same line I use for us Evertonians, there's always next year!

I'm having serious unhappiness now, Pedersen, Savin, Sahin and Tejera are all unsettled, the one shining star is that the legend that is Robert Smith is happy to stay with us (He's just signed a contract until 2017) despite Prem clubs chasing him. Thankfully we're on his favoured clubs and he's rated as unambitious :D

MikaelS – Season 15/16- Chippenham in Premier League

I had hoped I could bring Chippenham closer to the top, but I was a bit disappointed ? I had a lot of trouble with getting the game winner, so I lost a lot. The good thing is that I scored more than I conceded.

Community Shield
I faced Chelsea in the first of 3 matches in cups. I had the luck to pull this one through with a 2-1 win.

Community Shield: Chelsea (n): 2-1League Cup
I had a tough time and ended up loosing to Chelsea with a respectable 0-1 defeat.

3rd round: Leeds (a) : 4-2 a.p
4rd round: Shrewsbury (a) : 3-1
Qtr Final: Chelsea (a) : 0-1FA Cup
It was a good run with some good wins. In the end Chelsea proved to be too strong once again.

3rd round: Southampton (a) : 5-2
4rd round: Blackburn (h) : 4-1
5th round: Man City (h) : 3-2
6th round: Everton (a) : 1-0
Semi: Chelsea (n) : 2-3 a.e.tUefa Cup
My first attempt at the European scene saw us going through 1st round against G. Birligi from Turkey.

1st round, leg 1: G.Birligi (h) 4-2 (Karlsson 3 goals)
1st round, leg 2: G.Birligi (a) 2-2 (Karlsson 2 goals)This saw us drawn into Group A together with:
Schalke (Germany)
AZ (Holland)
Olympique de Marseille (France)
Salzburg (Austria)

At first it looked mighty tough, but I had my confidence going. First match were against AZ away and I actually used Nep’s Knockbreda tactic for this one (thanks Nep). We crushed AZ 7-1 (http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7391/08252008221214ll9.jpg) with Karlsson banging in 6 goals.

The other 3 matches saw us draw Marseille, loose to Schalke and win 1-0 against Salzburg.

AZ (a) : 7-1
Marseille (h) : 4-4
Schalke (a) : 0-1

A fantastic run really. Now we were through to the knockout stage which put Lyon up next. A really strong home match made way to the next round.

1st knockout round, leg 1: Lyon (h) 5-0 (Karlsson 3 goals)
1st knockout round, leg 2: Lyon (a) 2-1Up next came Man Utd (unfortunately). I hadn’t really thought I could bring the team further, but guess what? I did! We went through because of most scored away goals.

2nd knockout round, leg 1: Man Utd (a) 3-5
2nd knockout round, leg 2: Man Utd (h) 3-1The first match saw 3 goals for Man Utd in overtime! (http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/6958/08252008222808us7.jpg)

Now we were in the Quarter Finals in which Leverkusen were waiting. The german team was no match for our home ground so we went through to the Semi with ease.

Qtr Final, leg 1: Leverkusen (h) 4-2
Qtr Final, leg 2: Leverkusen (a) 1-1England had 3 teams through to the final 4, so I had hoped I could have drawn Sunderland or Aston Villa, but faith dealt me Barcelona.

We did put in a good fight, but in the end they proved too strong.

Semi Final, leg 1: Barcelona (h) 4-4 (Karlsson 3 goals. Clarke scored an own goal in overtime :()
Semi Final, leg 2: Barcelona (a) 4-54 goals away against Barcelona is quite an achievement so I am very happy with our first steps onto the European scene.

Players worth mentioning

GK:
Marek Stech (http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/5813/08262008202950aj7.jpg)
I brought Marek in because Martin was playing like crap really. He performed well, but I felt he couldn’t quite keep up.
René Giudicelli (http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/6828/08262008203115nv3.jpg)
Reneé was bought for a huge amount of money simply because Marek and Martin couldn’t hack it. I don’t think he did that well, so I hope he just need some time before he plays well.

DEF:
Dmytro Chygrynskyi (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9192/08262008203614qf5.jpg)
Probably the best defender I’ve ever bought. He played fantastic and even netted 8 times.
Ronald Zubar (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/365/08262008203638ff1.jpg)
I needed a good right back/defensive midfielder and brought Zubar in for a lot of money. A bit disappointed by his performance but I had some trouble finding his right position.
Dylan Parkin (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/8069/08262008203708pf9.jpg)
I bought Dylan from Man Utd because he looked as a good prospect but he really never played well. I think I will ship him off in the new season.
Trond Edinsen (http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/1854/08262008204019we7.jpg)
I think Trond did well once again. Made a good partner with Dmytro,
Pedro Rocha (http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/6014/08262008204150xt3.jpg)
Pedro was brought in because I needed some qualified backup for Trond and Dmytro. Pedro played okay in the 17 matches he played. I hope he can build on it in the next season.
Matthew Clarke (http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1438/08262008204306qg6.jpg)
A huge talent I expect much from. Gave him some matches so he wouldn’t get lost in the U18.
Håvard Nordtveit (http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/475/08262008204409ba2.jpg)
Håvard came on a free transfer and played mainly as defensive midfielder. I think he played well.
Fredrik Johansson (http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/564/08262008204510lq9.jpg)
I think Fredriks time at Chippenham is over. He a great versatile player but he just can’t play consistent enough.
Allan Dinesen (http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5375/08262008204615ss6.jpg)
Finally Allan stepped up. He played well and I expect him to step up a level next season.

MID:
Adrian Ropotan (http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/2251/08262008204720qm3.jpg)
Fantastic season by this aging DM. 8 assists is an approved season.
Peter Hesek (http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5663/08262008204819kn1.jpg)
What a season. Golden boy in midfield with 21 assists who is now wanted by several teams and is frustrated I don’t allow him to talk to other clubs. Hopefully I can keep him at Chippenham.
Patrick Husted (http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/8324/08262008205016jt8.jpg)
Once again he played well and together with Hesek he ruled midfield with 21 assists.
Oscar Martin Gomez (http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/4972/08262008205110ey8.jpg)
He played well on both wings but didn’t contribute enough with assists as I wanted. Did win young player of the year, so hopefully he will build on it.
Kieran Gibbs (http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/1985/08262008205241lb3.jpg)
Hm wasn’t the best season and I’m considering selling him.
Danny Morse (http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3990/08262008205337dx4.jpg)
Great season for Danny with 19 assists. I can clearly see his favorite position is left side but I had to play him a lot in the middle.

ATT:
Oskar Karlsson (http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/3610/08262008205445wo8.jpg)
I am lost for words. He just bang in the goals. 49 goals and 16 assists in 52 matches. He is just my favorite striker and unfortunately this doesn’t leave much room for any other strikers.
Craig Alcock (http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/6876/08262008205702gl8.jpg)
Well 20 matches. That says it all really. He didn’t get much play simply because Oskar played the most but also because I gave some of the youngsters some matches.
Bradley Warner (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/276/08262008205845qi0.jpg)
I gave him the chance instead of Craig and he did put in 8 goals. A player for the future if Oskar allows playing time.

Players I’m hoping a lot from

Slobodan Stevanovic (http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/6114/08262008210226qk5.jpg)
Will be a great backup for Allan on the left side.
Esben Berg (http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/5944/08262008210320sf7.jpg)
I gave Esben 3 matches as a sub and he played fairly well. I will give him more matches next season.
Rasul Smirnov (http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6808/08262008211024mq4.jpg)
A great striker who unfortunately hasn’t got a WP.
Miguel Campbell (http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5562/08262008211146io8.jpg)
A great talent who at the age of 18 already has U21 matches for England.
Paul Gilbert (http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4795/08262008211303yg5.jpg)
Next top striker hopefully. Will give him some matches for the first team next season so he can build on his progress.
Sami Hahl (http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6585/08262008211404ur9.jpg)
Very young finnish player who will rule the midfield.

Transfers 1 (http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/5272/08262008211642my0.jpg)
Transfers 2 (http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/2736/08262008211724jf7.jpg)
Transfers 3 (http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1113/08262008211752ab8.jpg)
The board gave me loads of money so I strengthened the defense while spending money on youth too. Out went lots of players on loan and free.

Finances (http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/6399/08262008211934vo4.jpg)
Finances are stable. Getting far in Uefa Cup provided good money.

What a first season in charge! The promotion race went down to the wire and thankfully we were one of the teams involved. With just 2 games to play, there were 3 teams in with a chance of winning the league, Histon, Southport and us. We were 3rd, 2 points off of top and having to play fellow playoff team Hinckley next. Despite taking an early lead, Hinckley score 2 late goals to take a 3-1 victory, this coupled with a Histon defeat handed Southport the title. All that was left was to see where in the playoffs we would end up. A victory over Tamworth could see us as high a 2nd. Still feeling the effects of the defeat to Hinckley, Tamworth took full advantage with a smash and grab 2-1 victory.

As we finished 4th, we were drawn with Hinckley in the Playoff Semi Finals, as we’d only managed 1 victory over them in our 3 meetings this season, I wasn’t expecting the next two games to go our way. A 4-2 (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/PlayoffFirstLEg.jpg) home defeat left us with a lot to do but still a chance of making it to the final. Despite battling hard, we suffered another defeat, 2-0 (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/PlayoffSecondLeg.jpg) to send us out of the playoffs and left in the Blue Square North for another season.

The number of cups that we were entered into reminded me a bit of Northern Ireland, we were able to make some good progress in the Setanta Shield and the FA Cup, but fell at the first hurdle in a replay in the FA Trophy – Still there’s always next year.

At the beginning of the season, we acquired Leeds as a parent club and they promptly sent Jonny Lund (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/Lund.jpg) and Scott Gardner (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/Gardner.jpg) to help our cause. Both would prove to be valuable throughout the season. As were Liam Caddick (27 Goals) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/Caddick.jpg) and Norman Fowler (29 Goals) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/Fowler.jpg), who also claimed Player of the Season (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/PlayeroftheSeason.jpg). Mark Thompson (17 Assists) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/Thomson.jpg) and Paul Brown (10 Assists) helped out from midfield, with Danny Hatton (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc157/Razer1982/Guiseley/Season%201%2008%20-%2009/Hatton.jpg) one to watch in the coming seasons.

Real London Update - Season 21 (2028/2029)

To Begin....

Delayed Stadium Completion (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/StadiumDelayed.jpg) - Real London's move to the "Real London Stadium" has been put on hold for three months after plans fell behind. Its a shame, as it could cost me a lot of money on Season Tickets and Gates during those three months.

Premiership Prediction - 9th
Premiership Position - 7th
F.A Cup - Quarter Final
League Cup - 3rd Round
Euro Case - 3rd Round (UEFA Cup Qualification)
UEFA Cup - 2nd Knockout Round

Premiership - Graph (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/LeaguGraph.jpg) | Table (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/LeagueTable.jpg)

Premiership : Not a bad season. Finished 1 place lower than last season, which is a disappointment, and also missed out on Europe. The highlight of the season was the fact that I feel like the club has made a giant step forward. We dispatch the lower half of the table with ease. And put up great fights to teams around our level. Unlucky not to get Champions League football this season, falling just short of the all elusive 4th place. The season was going exceptionally well, and I was even challenging for the title, but around Match Day 25, I started to get a lot of injuries and a lot of suspensions, coupled with a lot of cup games, and the squad just couldn't cope.

F.A Cup : My best season in the F.A Cup yet. Had a few easy rounds, playing a low EPL team and a Div. 1 team, before coming up short to Blackburn Rovers in the Quarter Final. 4-0 down in just 36 minutes, with the game eventually finishing 4-2. This was the start of a 7 game losing streak for Real London.

League Cup : Yet again, disappointment in the League Cup. Beaten easily by an outstanding Tottenham side, with the final score being 3-0. I've never been past the 3rd round of the League Cup, and have only even managed to get that far twice.

Euro Vase : I had one of the easier routes to the 3rd Round of the Euro Vase, with Zalgris. I was seeded, so got a bye to Round three, in which Zalgris were dispatched 2-0 and 3-0, not even causing a hint of an upset. Amazingly, this counts as a "Cup Win". At the moment, I'll take them all.

UEFA Cup : So, here it is. The UEFA Cup 2nd Qual. Round. A win here takes me into Europe proper for the first time in the clubs history. I was drawn against Cherno More, who gave much effort in the first leg at The Fans Stadium, holding Real London to a 0-0 draw, and leaving them much to do in the away leg. It was only 2 late goals from Raul Arguelles that took Real London through to the 1st Round proper, after Cherno More were pushing right until the last minutes. A nice draw of Mlada Boleslav in the 1st Round, which would hopefully take Real London into the Group Stages. A 3-2 win in the away leg, despite being 3-0 up seemed like it could be enough to take back to Kingsmeadow. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, and a last minute goal form Boleslav caused a very edgy finish to the tie, with Real London eventually going through on away goals, with the tie squared up at 3-3. The group stages were drawn, and the media didn't give Real London a chance, claiming it was a "Tough Group". Zaragoza, the biggest team in the group were given one hell of a run for their money, and only a last gasp winner saw them take the 3 points in a 2-1 victory. FC Zuric were Real London's next opponents in this competition, and were dispatched 4-1 on a great night for Real London, in front of adulating fans. Arguelles scored a Hat-Trick, and the group was wide open after 2 games. Domzale, who looked the weakest team in the group, gave Real London their hardest game, holding them to a 2-2 draw, after taking a 2 goal lead. with just 1 game remaining, Real London just needed to secure a draw against Jerusalem, but ended up running out 4-2 winners, and finished 2nd in the group 2 points behind Zaragoza. An unlucky draw in the 1st knockout round against Turkish giants Galatasary was to await Real London. Given no chance, they entered the game with nothing to lose and fought to a 2-2 draw at home. This didn't seem like the best of results, as the 2 away goals conceded could prove costly. However, a gallant 3-0 victory in Turkey saw Real London claim one of their biggest ever scalps. 5-2 on Agg, and a 2nd Round tie against Lyon awaited. Again, the home leg was first, and at Half Time things were OK at 1-1, despite Dos Santos scoring an own goal. Only a 90th minute winner took the game away from Real London, leaving them much to do in France, but this season, for Real London, "much to do" was brushed aside. And after 48 minutes it seemed just that way again. 2-0 after goals from Edguardo and Arguelles, and Lyon would now need 2 goals to take the tie, with Real London scoring the 2 away goals needed. Sadly, 3 goals was what Lyon achieved, with yet another 90th minute winner causing me to lose the tie, 3-2 on the night and 5-3 on Agg. 4 90th minute goals scored against me in Europe this season has clearly cost me, but I can't ocmplain too much, as Lyon went on to lift the the Trophy.

Players of the Season

Raul Arguelles (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/RaulArguelles.jpg) - What can I say about this guy. He's quite simply amazing. And now, at 29 he's about to hit his prime. I managed to tie him down to a new 5 year deal, which should hopefully mean he'll see out his career here.

Omar Cisneros (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/OmarCisneros.jpg) - Yet again one of the best. 34 assists is brilliant, and he seldom has a bad game

Edguardo (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/Edguardo.jpg) - Real name Edgard Wippel, he was dubbed Edguardo after Retired Arsenal Legend Eduardo. Although a center midfielder, his finishing is potent, and he delivers a killer ball through the middle, which is reflected in his 13 goals and 24 assists this season. Easily the greatest to have played in the middle of the park for Real London.

Francisco Javier San Jose (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/GTAIV.jpg) - Didn't play regularly, but still managed to chip in with 14 goals. One of the players of the season due to the fact that, the Chairman accepted an £18,000,000 + 25% offer for him, despite him only joining the club a year ago, to which he rejected the contract of the bidding club, and then went on to hit 2 consecutive hat-tricks.

Season Summary
Overall, a brilliant season. Unfortunate that I've not got into Europe this season, but for my personal aim next season, a top four finish is a must for Real London. I've sold Bernard Bernard for a hefty amount to Arsenal, and have 2 or 3 players in mind to fill some big voids in the Real London defense.

Discipline Hell (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/Real%20London/Season%2021/Dirtyplayers.jpg)
I've never experienced more than 3 or 4 red cards in a season before. But for some reason this season, 3 of my first choice back 4 were hell bent on getting the club into hot water. 41 yellows and 7 reds between them, amounting to around 29 games missed through suspension in total, and the games they played in, really cost us a lot of points through the season.

AFC Wimbledon Season 3 (2010-2011)

A fantastic late-season surge meant a playoff promotion spot, and eventual promotion.

Standings (http://img398.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bspfinalstandingsfe2.jpg)

The last promotion spot came down to the last game of the season between us, Rochdale, Chesterfield, and Stevenage.

Final Day
We faced Weymouth, and lost 2-1.

Chesterfield drew Torquay at home, so they were eliminated.

Stevenage defeated Tamworth, but their low goal differential eliminated them.

Rochdale faced Billericay, and a win would get them into 5th. Rochdale were leading 1-0 all the way till the 90th minute, when Luke Howell scored from just outside the box.

We were through to the Semis after being 9 points out throughout the season.

Semi Final against Kidderminster

1st leg: we were up 3-0 on goals from Tyrone Cameron, Dag Olsen, and Paul Black, but Kidderminster battled back with a Stuart Richardson hat-trick.

2nd leg: we were down a goal on a couple occasions from goals by Darryl Knights, but a Stacy Long strike just inside the penalty area put us through to the final.

Final against Chester

We dominated Chester. Simon Dawkins opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Dag Olsen doubled our lead 10 minutes later. Stacy Long and Lewis Young also scored and we were promoted to League 2!!!:)

Transfers

Takura Mtandari, Dag Olsen, Simon Dawkins, and new loanee Sam Cox joined the club from parent club Tottenham. Jason Morrison was signed on a free transfer on July 1, and contributed to the club's success. Goalkeeper Michael Taylor was signed from Billericay, but did not feature (I might sell him soon:D). Striker Scott Rhodes, midfielder Yaser Kasim, midfielder and Canadian Terry Dunfield, and midfielder/defender Paul Black were signed later in the year. Dunfield and Black were frequently part of my lineup, Kasim didn't feature, and Rhodes was later sold.

Many players were released on a free, except backup Goalkeeper Vinnie Whelan to Eastleigh for US$3k, and Scott Rhodes, who didn't play a single game after signing with us, to Hayes & Yeading for US$10k, and a clause that will net us US$110k if he scores 40 league goals.

Key Players

Simon Dawkins (http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=simondawkinsyl7.jpg)

A key player for us throughout the season. We needed all 25 of his goals this season. He scored the game winner in the final against Chester.

Dag Olsen (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dagolsenwy6.jpg)

He didn't score as much as last year with us, but also scored some critical goals, and had another 4 goal game this season.

Jason Morrison (http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jasonmorrisonlx8.jpg)

Signed on a free transfer this year, Morrison led the club with 21 assists, and was 3 in the league.

Jon Challinor (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jonchallinorkd2.jpg)

Followed last year's campaign with 12 goals and 7 assists while achieving a 7.38 average, best at the club.

Stacy Long (http://img241.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stacylongkq8.jpg)

Didn't feature in my lineup as much as last year, but makes the list because he's the club favoured personnel, and scored the winning goal against Kidderminster.

Tyrone Cameron (http://img357.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tyronecameronev1.jpg)

Vital part of my back four, and he finished 3 in the league in tackles per game.

Parent and Feeder Clubs

Parent club Tottenham had another successful season. They finished 4th and qualified for the Euro Cup. Bolton, Norwich, and Charlton were relegated.

Feeder club Blyth finished 10th in the Blue Square North, while Ramsgate finished last in the Blue Square South.

Looking Ahead

We're now professional, but I already signed all my first-teamers and key backups to full-time contracts. I hope to be busy this offseason. Olsen's and Dawkins's contracts are up with Tottenham. If they don't resign with Spurs, I'll try and contract them permanently. I won't go crazy with signings, as I only have a little more than US$2 million in the bank balance.

Managerial Career
2008-2009: 2nd in the Blue Square South. Promoted
2009-2010: 12th in the Blue Square Premier.
2010-2011: 5th in the Blue Square Premier. Promoted

I just had one of those annoying moments :( I was 1-0 up vs Charlton, I was in the 2nd half and fell asleep by accident, I woke up and straight in my face was AFC Wibledon 1 - 3 Charlton (One own goal, a penalty and a 90th minute goal!)

When I eventually get around to completing Daf's Challenge (Hopefully won't be too long now) - I'll carry on with Gundo's Challenge and hopefully get him to do the absolute impossible, and get 2,000 goals.! - Thats right I said it.

Dan Bacon (http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=danbaconbr8.jpg)

A West Ham youngster. Will start at right midfielder for us.

James Allen (http://img213.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jamesallenhs4.jpg)

How do you do a link like that?
3 ways.

1. either type in the parameters yourself e.g. [u r l=hxxp://blablabla]Text for link here[/u r l] or
2. Type some text. Highlight it. Click on the globe-thingy and type in the URL
3. Click on the globe-thingy, enter URL. Now the url is typed in the textfield - that is actually just the text so you can delete it and type something else. The link is "behind" it.

AFC Wimbledon January update - Season 6 (2013/2014)

To Begin....

Thankfully the board have decided to expand the stadium again, last season it was expanded by around 250 which was a bit itiful but thankfully this year they have decided to expand the stadium by 1700 which will take it to around 6400 (Not sure if they've taken the reduction off in the info screen)

League One Prediction - 15th
League One Position - 1st
F.A Cup - 3rd Round (vs Weymouth)
League Cup - 3rd Round (Knocked out)
JP Trophy - Quarter Final (Knocked Out)

League One - Graph (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/AFCTableGraphJanuary2014.jpg) - Table (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/LeagueOne1314midseason.jpg)

League One : Fantastic season so far, Adriano took a few games to settle in but he has been top class since, despite that I wouldn't say he's been our star player. It looks like we're going to be promoted which would certainly help quell the constant stream of offers and enquiries coming in for the likes of Emre Sahin an Ciprian Savin.

F.A Cup : We've been solid so far, we got a lucky draw in the first round against BSP side Billericay, despite this my lads weren't at their best and only drew 1-1 away before eventually winning 3-0 in the replay at Kingsmeadow. In the second round we drew fellow League One side Greys Athletic and proceeded to win 3-2. We have drawn our feeder club Weymouth in the 3rd Round and it's a game I really expect us to win to be honest.

League Cup : Could have been worse (Nep :p) going out in the third round wasn't bad but I had been hoping to get a bit further. In the First Round we destroyed League One Side Rushden 6-0 with Adriano getting his first Hattrick. In the Second Round our luck of the draw ended as we drew Championship side Nottingham Forest, luckily though we played well and progressed after a late goal. In the third round we were given an even tougher draw that eventually ended ou run, we travelled to the Riverside hoping to get something out of the game agianst 8th placed Premiership side Middlesbrough and we nearly did, We led 1-0 until the 87th minute when Bruce Djite hit a double to send us crashing out the cup.

Johnstones Paint trophy : We failed to live up to the successes of the past two seasons in which we reached the final twice and won once. We beat League One side Barnet in the 2nd round before being beaten by another League One side Crystal Palace in the Quarter Final.

Players of the Season so far

Adriano (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/AdrianoJanuary2014.jpg) - I was shocked and excited when he agreed to sign and so far he's certainly lived up to the excitement, his goals have been vital in our promotion push which is good as he has a £0 non - promotion clause. Hopefully he can stay at this level for another couple of years, by which time I'll hopefully be high enough to sign someone as good/better than him

John Simpson (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/JohnSimpsonJanuary2014.jpg) - He's finally got a permanent strike partner which should certainly help him with consistency and goalscoring. He had a slow start but he started banging them in whilst Adriano was in one of his regular Droughts and has continued since.

Nabil El Zhar (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/NabilElZharJanuary2014.jpg) - Once again he's been brilliant, he's scoring goals, getting assists and he's got the highest average rating in our team so he's certainly been a big players for us this year.

Robert Smith (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/RobertSmithJanuary2014.jpg) - I've said all I could possibly say about this lad, he really is too good for this league when you look at his attributes but thankfully he's not ambitious, IMO he'll probably still be with us when we're fighting for the Premiership title a few years down the line.

Youngster Watch

Josef Sedlak (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/ohmylife92/JosefSedlakJanuary2014.jpg) - Looks like a fantastic talent, he's improved quite a bit in just 6 months, he should be ready to step in when Adriano is no longer good enough.

Season Summary

A brilliant season so far. If we can hold on to 1st place that'll be fantastic, 2nd place would be good too. It's gonna be an excitiong season and I just hope we don't mess up like we did at the end of last season.

Manager history

Season 1 - Blue Square South - 1st place - Promoted
Season 2 - Blue Square Premier - 3rd Place - Promoted
Season 3 - League Two - 17th place
Season 4 - League Two - 2nd Place - Promoted
Season 5 - League One - 9th Place
Season 6 - League One - 1st Place so far

In my experience, a 4-4-2 with the wide men being AMR / AML is most effective. The left center midfielder has a Barrow, and proves great in that role stopping chances, and the right center mid is more attacking, but no farrow. If you've got MSN, I could give you a much more detailed breakdown of how to get the best out of your players (if you wanted) - otherwise, I could create another thread in the tactics forum.

and one League match over:
First League Game report (http://img161.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vdorchester1stgamesq0.jpg)

Manager Aidan Parry was very dissapointed with 2 losses out of the two, and even more aggreived the the woeful performance of new club captain and new signing Sasha Opinal (link in previous thread) The gaffer had this to say: For a frest start at a new club i didnt expect to be in the same position as i started, with an increase of budget but decrease in wage budget, i will be looking to sign some top players in the next coming weeks, meanwhile, i have stated that the poor performance by club captain sasha that another performance like that would relegate him from his 1st team status and until i am fulfilled with the players hard work in training and reserves will i promote him back.

With Sasha's reply: "I feel zat ze gafferz comments were true, and in my opinion i belive that i have to improve my performance and to prove to him that i am worthy of ze shirt"

Another slow start for us with us having to wait 5 games for our first win, not as bad as last years 15 games where we still finished 2nd and still got promoted, so i was still hopefull of getting promoted again. i was keeping this hope quiet from the board though who i'd told we were going to get relegated. We followed this first win with a defeat but got back to form by beating halifax 3-0.

A defeat to cambridge brought us back down to earth before a 9 game ubeaten streak. Defeat to woking came next before our first cup match of the season at home against folkstone in the fa cup 4th qualyfying round. we hammered them 6-0 with a slightly weakened side out there but top goalscorer sam williams who had been brought in on loan scored a hatrick and got man of the match.

2 more league wins followed before a tough fa cup 1st round match against league two rochdale. 2-0 down at half time and i thought it was over but my two loan sighnings from astonvilla adam mcgurk and sam willliams had other ideas and scored once each to give us a 2-2 draw.

A 3-0 win against dorchester who had been promoted as champions from the BSS with us set us up well for the fa cup reply being played at Rochdales Spotland ground. I came into this game expecting to get hammered but a goal from last seasons top scorer Akinde and star central defender Henry Mcstay meant we win 2-0.

A defeat and a draw in the league meant we go into the FA Cup 2nd round at home to Bradford which was being shown on the Tele very short on confidence. A goal just after half time from Arter our CM on loan from Charlton meant we took the lead although everyone though we had blown it when we conceeded on the 82 minuite. Again Sam williams comes to the resuce though with an 88minuite strike allowing him to claim MotM.

Exits in our first matches of the FA Trophy an Setenta Shield. followed while our league form remained inconsistent.

In the FA Cup we were hoping for a draw at home against the big premiership sides as we were know the lowest club left in the cup. We didnt quite get that but we cant complain about being drawn at home to championship lecister. The game drew in huge support with us only being 30 people short of our full capacity of 3500. unfortunately the game was bad from the off with us dropping 4-0 down before claiming a late concelation goal.

Inconsistent form in the league continued and saw us remain mid table and finish 9th in the league 3 points off the playoffs

Best Result of the season 2-1 win over Bradford FA Cup 2nd round
Worst Result 3-0 loss to cambrige (BSP)
Highest Attendence 3470 vs Leicister FA Cup 3rd round
Best Player john Akinde
signng of the season Sam Williams (on loan From aston villa)

Season 4

Chelmsford 2011/12 Coca-Cola League 2

Our first season in the Football League and we immediately became favourites for the drop before a ball was kicked. Personally, I was looking for a mid-table finish and maybe sneak a play-off place.

For the first time, we had some money to play with and I smashed the Chelmsford transfer record when buying Joe Tomkins (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/tomkins.jpg) on deadline day for £300K. Other signings included Aswad Thomas (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/thomas.jpg) on loan from new parent club Charlton Athletic and Ryan Preece (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/preece.jpg), an exciting youngster from Birmingham City. We also brought in some Eastern European talent to boost our squad. Unfortunately, some players that had served us so well over the past three seasons were deemed not good enough and were shipped out. The only real downer was the loss of Tom Devaux (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/devaux.jpg) to Swindon for £120K, but he had requested a move to a bigger club.

Transfers (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/transfers.jpg)

It was a season that is best described as up and down. We really struggled to put a string of results together and I struggled to settle on my best eleven players. A late surge at the back end of the season saw us rewarded with a playoff place and a meeting with Yeovil Town in the semi-final. A comfortable 1st Leg (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/leg1.jpg) win at home was followed by a 2nd Leg (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/leg2.jpg) defeat away but we were on our way to Wembley to meet Notts County!

County had beaten us home and away in the league and looked strong especially in attack. If we were to have any chance of winning this game, we had to starve them of the ball. County started brightly and clipped the post from a free-kick but we slowly gained momentum and put in one of our best displays of the season. With twenty minutes left and extra-time looming, Ryan Preece stepped off the bench to score the winner and seal promotion to League One. 1-0! (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/final.jpg)

Coca-Cola League Two (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/league.jpg)

Our sole representative in the division Select (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/select.jpg) was Ryan Preece and I was awarded runner up spot in Manager of the Season (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/mos.jpg)

Players that really stood out this season were wingers Dennis Hinton (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/hinton.jpg), who we managed to buy in a part exchange deal and Lachezar Petrov (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/petrov.jpg) whose arrival in January kick started our season

17 year old Striker Denis Drevensek (http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f258/steve_rush/2008-09/2011-12/drevensek.jpg) looks a fantastic prospect and terrorised the youth and reserve leagues with 60 goals
