Season 2024/2025

image.png.bf9fbf1ee5d87d6b0ff6f18bcefef554.png

Looking for a new club, I've noticed that my reputation went a little bit down after being fired at FC Cusco in Peru. There were no teams available where I saw a good opportunity to win a champions league in a few years. So I decided to go to my home country to Go Ahead Eagles, when arriving at the club they were standing 7th in the league with 17 games to play. I'm planning on improving my reputation so its probably best to stay here for at least a while, and bring back the club to the highest level in dutch football.

We had a pretty decent squad to work with, and the club was doing pretty fine. The only reason the job came available was that the former manager went to Cambuur in the same league. I was hoping to make a run for the play offs, or when things went pretty good for one of the two spots to promote instantly. Unfortunate for me, the team was already out of the cup, but to be fair with this club changes aren't that big of winning the cup.

My plan with the team worked instantly and we went on having some good results, and better for us most of the opponents weren't. To be fair we had a bit of luck in a couple of games were we where out kicked in xG by over 1.5 difference, but you gotta have some luck when you want to go up in the leaderboard. What happend at Madura United in Indonesia happend here as well, right from my start we started to win a lot of games. In the end we finished second behind the second squad of Ajax, who got a ******** of talent. But obviously this was way better than we thought coming in to the league.

The manager who went to SC Cambuur which gave me the opportunity to start with Go Ahead, didn't perform that well with his new club and is now fired by SC Cambuur. But from this position I want to thank him for this opportunity. For now I am planning on staying at the club and battle in the Eredivisie next season, hopefully we can avoid relegation and hopefully that gives a nice boost to my reputation. So after that I hopefully will find a club in a not European country to make a run for the campions league on that continent.

@dkouvNice run in South Korea, nice to have that crossed of the list. Hopefully you soon find a new (good) club for your next challenge

@Gregg88Congrats with a very nice season with Leipzig. Club World Cup a very nice one to cross off the list. Very nice season with Monterrey as well, you win your titles fast and it looks like easily so nice job. Don't know if there are a lot of countries left where they have to cups? Probably would go for that option if there is one.

@_JHTB_GL with hopefully winning the league with Spurs, unfortunate to lose the final with USA, lets hope Mexico makes a bad run in the future so you could fill in the spot. GL

@lukefox44Very nice season in Brazil, with seasons like that you can scratch a lot of cups of the list in no time.

@pug 407 Congrats with your first titles. Planning on staying or moving on?

I'll Be Staying To Try And Win The Champions League So I Don't Have To Come Back.

Did you enjoy Jeonbuk at all? Was all too easy personally, so I was in and out ASAP.

I had the same thoughts with Guangzhou, I like winning games obviously, but, there wasn't any real challenge. I think both South Korea and China are similar in that to do well it's easy* enough to buy the best players of the nation and dominate.

Yes, it did have a bit of a "too easy" flavour, especially in the league, was a bit ridiculous, think I beat 2nd place Pohang 6-0 once with my reserve team. But for some reason the CL and cup semis and final games were pretty tense so that provided enough excitement ;) So overall it was fine, and I enjoyed scouting out and buying the best South Korean players. But I'm glad I managed to get it Asia done in 1 year, think the second year would have been a bit of a drag.

Got the job at San Lorenzo now, nice to be in a more competitive league and I don't think Libertadores will be a walk by any means with all those Brazilian sides and Boca who can for some reason pay out £50k p/w salaries. Just won 1-0 against Boca through them scoring a 94th minute own goal, which put me 1 goal difference behind 1st place River Plate with 3 games to go in the season. Plenty of excitement for sure :)

Season 8 (2027/28) - San Lorenzo

After Jeonbuk, I applied to jobs at Wolfsburg and San Lorenzo and got offered the San Lorenzo one. They seemed to be one of the bigger teams in Argentina but a fair way behind Boca and River, and of course the bigger Brazilian teams - but after my last attempt at this challenge the last thing I fancied is another 90-game season in Brazil. The squad was pretty decent with quite a few promising youngsters, but two of our best players and prospects got sold for their release clauses to Man Utd and Chelsea in the January transfer window. So I tried to quickly scout some players and fill the gaps in the squad, which I did with mixed success, signing a great defender from a Uruguay side but also some players who may well be classified as flops. I’m trying to renegotiate a few contracts not to be held ransom to these release clauses in the future, but it seems hard to get rid of them.

spacer.png

In the league, we started at 8 but not too far from the top 4 Libertadores qualification places. We thrashed a couple of relegation-threatened sides before losing 4-2 away to River and drawing a few games. We then picked up form and ended up topping the table on goal difference at one point, but a tough run-in ultimately proved our undoing, with a narrow 1-0 loss away to 4th placed Velez with 2 games to go meaning we ended up 2nd, one point behind River.

spacer.png

We progressed to knockouts in the Sudamericana and are in the early rounds of the cup, with both of these competitions running on a different calendar than the league.

Despite our good form a lot of players were blowing hot and cold apart from these two: winger Santiago Gonzalez who was by far our best attacking threat, and center back Emiliano Mangino who I signed in January.

spacer.png spacer.png

I’m trying to improve the squad in the summer and think the league should be a possibility next year, given that we went quite close already. Still no international job, but hopefully something will come up after this summer’s Euros or Copa America.

Promotion in my first season coming up as runners up in the Segunda Division Profressional.

This is my overall best starting eleven.

Leicester City Season 2033-34 Review

I think I said in my previous post, this season would be my last at Leicester City. Now I have reached the end of the season I still feel that way. This season was all about winning a cup after realising I just could not compete with the big 4 teams when it came head to head or spending power.

LEAGUE

20210203205150_1.jpg.32b8c6630660ca962da219786259d885.jpg

Different season same old story. A fifth place finish and Europa Conference qualification for next season, or whatever that competition is? At one point we were second about halfway though the season and the board wanted to readjust our season goals I almost went for title challenge but decided to learn from my mistakes of previous seasons and not be too ambitious so I stuck with Europa League qualification. As you can see I am some way off from the top clubs.

EFL Cup

This was my main goal this season. I wanted this cup then I could leave for pastures new with at least one accomplishment. Could we do it? We had a pretty easy route to the semi final where we met fellow Premier league mid table opposition Everton. I fancied my chances!

Semi Final Leg 1

Spoiler

20210203200711_1.jpg.88559c90bb465f5441a092c9b5a2ee33.jpg

I couldnt believe what  I was seeing. We just kept throwing goals away. A game I was confident in winning, especially at home we just gifted them the win. We had to pull out all of the stops in the second leg

Semi Final Leg 2

Spoiler

20210203200716_1.jpg.6014cfb018053a2fa0018922702925ed.jpg

That was it. Chances gone, we did not offer any kind of threat during the game. I almost resigned on the spot but thought otherwise. In the final Everton got beat by Man City 3-1, who would have probably beaten us anyway as I have never beaten them yet.

A comfortable win for Chelsea in the QF stage. This is a good Chelsea team, so I was expecting us to be beaten

Europa League

An easy path in the early stages, it didnt get interesting until the Semi Finals. Our opponents? It was time for revenge, non other than Everton again

A 5-2 first leg away win set us up for an easy ride into the final, even though we only drew the second leg 2-2 we were never in danger of throwing this one away.

An easy win for a 1-0. It felt tighter than the stats suggest and at 1-0 there is always that danger of conceding . We had done it, we had won a cup like I had set out to do. Its just a shame it does not count towards the challenge. But it should do my rep some good/

A change this season from my usual star striker Sam Tol. This season he was slightly injury prone, but sill scoring 23 goals. it was close. Grant was signed on a free transfer asfter his AEK contract expired, now he is workth £60m and my top scorer and one of the top average rated. He started off being a bit of a super sub, but after covering Tols injuries and lack of form, Grant forced his way into the team and his goals were vital to our success.

Whats next?

Well I will definitely be resigning I have the World Cup to look forward to this summer with South Korea and we are the hosts. Hopefully we can take advantage of this and upset a few teams.  I'll post my World Cup review soon

PRE SEASON / TRANSFERS

For those of you who have managed in Brazil will probably be aware thats there's not really such a thing as a pre season its just a never ending supply of matches.... 72 this season

image.thumb.png.eee8a0913d0b83f18542c03c56651b17.png

A fair few quid was spent and it was needed. I didn't want to lose either Renyer or Costanza but their release clauses were met so my hands were tied.

of the ins, the pick quality wise was probably Hudson who's release clause we activated from Vitoria. His release clause is moderately low at £14.75m (agent insisted) so we'll enjoy him while we can. Ivan Franco was also a snip at £1.4m. Reinier on loan from Real Madrid mid season was a major coup

SAO PAULO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Just a lite 16 game tournament to warm up for the league season.

image.png.f6547196775635ce49fcaeed3ad6e140.png

We made it to the 2 legged final, after losing the away leg 1-0 we battered them in the home leg but could only level the tie.

Unfortunately Leo our rampaging left back who had a great season missed the first penalty and Sao Paulo won on pens (the luck didn't really change from here)

COPA DO BRASIL (BRAZILIAN FA CUP)

image.png.3f86198c82a797d6ff875a39bdf4c08d.png

Well beaten in the quarters by the best team in the country

COPA LIBERTADORES

After taking care of Independiente Del Valle (Ecuador) & Emelec (Ecuador) in the qualifiers we progressed through to the group stage

image.thumb.png.3406eb1d1bc9f8976b5b6a4d7ccfd386.png

The only slip up came at Palmeiras who we ended up playing a staggering 9 times over the course of the season.

Through to the first knock out rounds where we would meet a familiar foe

image.png.a8955b2426fe5f164d326c4a1035d791.png

When managing Defensor in Uruguay my problem in the continental competitions was being bullied by the more powerful and better resourced Brazilian and Argentinian sides.

This time we were the bully and we dealt with Defensor easily. .... Onto the quarters

image.png.a3ca5b7d755d3de976678ac5e1a11750.png

We ended up getting drawn out against Palmeiras (who we were in a group with) I was confident after getting a 1-1 draw in the opening away leg I would finish the job at home.... 2-0 down at half time in the home leg this plan was in tatters. We managed to get it back to 2-2 and level on aggregate but the damage of the 2 away goals was done and we bowed out a lot earlier than I expected or anticipated. Winning the libertadores was the big pull in coming to Brazil so this was a very disappointing exit.

Gremio beat Palmeiras in the final 3-0!

Brazil Serie A (League)

image.png.dfa96025be008898d480f7436e3435c8.png

Flamengo retained the title and we could only finish runners up after we blew a 2 goal lead in the penultimate game at home to Atletico Mineiro to draw 2-2 with a bizarre own goal in the 84th minute when one of my centre half's attempt to clear the ball cannoned into the net of my other centre halfs back.

Flamengo held a 2pt lead going into their final game versus Vitoria and they managed to hold serve and win 2-0. We done our bit beating Goias 3-1 away from home but it wasn't enough and we only have ourselves to blame finishing the season trophyless!

GREAT!! :seagull:

image.png.2c143a214a2e7161ebba6470af255ced.png

WHAT'S NEXT

After coming out of 72 game season without any silverware to our name or being able to tick anything of the trophy list it feels a little bit soul destroying and the temptation is there to get out of Brazil completely and go to a league where I am not playing the equivalent of 2 seasons games in one!

The Tottenham job has become available and I have applied for that (early Jan) but I don't think I will get it and if that plays out as expected I will continue with Santos for another season and try to crack the copa libertadores again.

Flamengo are formidable opposition and it will be a battle with them again I would imagine.

On the international front plenty of decent jobs became available after Euro 2024 (Portugal beat spain 3-1 in the final) inlcuding England, Holland, Germany, France. Applied for all but didn't get a sniff of an interview so still looking to get back into the international scene but won't just take any old job.

@lukefox44Very nice season in Brazil, with seasons like that you can scratch a lot of cups off the list in no time.

Cheers mate, was a nice season. Yeah a lot of people here seem to struggle with the cup side, I'm doing ok at the minute, it's the international game im struggling with haha.

Congrats on the promotion, hows it looking to stay up next season? Holland is always a fun country to play in as well.

That's basically exactly how my first season in Brazil went, close all the way and lost out to a silly result or two. I was lucky to take over a few games into the league and not have to deal with the state champsbut its disappointing as hell though isnt it, all those games for nothing.

It's a long season but with a few decent signings you could easily clean up the league and Libertadores next year I think, if you stayed that is.

I did very early on and from memory theres a league rule that only allows 1 year contracts, so at the end of every season its chaos.

The team I was at weren't very good so I used it as an opportunity to bring in players as well, replaced basically my whole squad in one window, so that's always an option as well haha.

Me and @_JHTB_ were talking about how frustrating it was early on in this thread.

Cheers mate thought it might be a bug as other teams seem to have tied their players down as tried to fight fire with fire. Anyway 10 games left in season so will pose my 1st proper club post over the weekend. Enjoy reading everyone's  although was excited to try Brazil until I read yours thinking of actually knocking it off as a playable league 90 a game season

Try offering the players a contract but change the start date to end of season, I can't remember if i tried it or was just happy to start from scratch.

Brazil is a long season, but it's a pretty fun league. I had the same thoughts as you and tried Aregntina for the Libertadores, Argentina has a more normal 38 game season but in my save at least the Brazilian sides were much much better.

@Gregg88  The best places to get those cups are the nations with 2 cups.

There's some really good ones. Malaysia has 2 cups, but the Malaysia Cup is at the end of the season.

My last 2 cups needed only 12 matches. 4 in Scotland and 8 in Malaysia.

I'd rather stay out of Asia. But Scotland is very much added! Try and stay away from the those top 2.

@lukefox44@Safe Hands I am very much that poacher as we speak! Haha. Taken over at Sundowns and i'm picking all those players up. I need to head down to South America, but unsure which country! Don't fancy a long season in Brazil, but I love the players that come through. Hmmm.

@MShingDid you leave Leicester in the end? Really didn't look like you were far off making that challenge for the title!

It's nice when it's you doing the poaching, less so when it's your players being poached isnt it haha

A season in Brazil probably takes as long as almost 2 seasons in Argentina, but in my save at least, the level in Brazil was much better and if you can get one of the top jobs it will probably take less time than building an Argentine side up.

Yes I left after the Europa final. I havent played through the world cup not been on much.

We came close most seasons but our form would never last. The teams above us were just too strong.

2 seasons in South Africa - my personal hatred continues - A short story.

I just couldn't beat Kaizer Chiefs in the league. I could keep a decent level of form really, but it just wasn't good enough.

I did beat them in the final of the Champions League though!

But still. I'm done with that league. Get me out of there!

Depending on what your computer can handle.........I go for about 8 leagues to start.

It's personal preference really, but you can't go wrong with Poland, Chile, Canada, Mexico & South Korea as a starting point. Just add anymore you fancy. German lower leagues? English lower leagues maybe?

Here is a Wikipedia page that shows the competitions by nation, so you can see which ones have 2 cups;

List of association football competitions - Wikipedia

Why do you want to stay out of Asia?

One option is to wait until you've completed the 10 requisite league titles, and then load all the 2 cup nations and wait for a club to become available that's in the latter stages of the cup.

Perhaps I didn't make the advantage of the Malaysia Cup clear. It takes place outside of the league schedule, so it's the only competition you're playing in at that time.

Obviously the problem with cups is that you might be the best club, but you come a cropper in a cup, and end up playing a whole season for no reason because you already have enough cups.

Is it better to stay at a club for another season just to win a cup, or leave and have to find a completely new job, set up you tactics / training / buy new players etc? Both options suck.

I usually only have 1 or 2 added at the start.

I'd suggest having some kind of loose plan for your route to glory. I you load 10 different nations and just see which job comes up first, you might make things difficult for yourself, and you can really do that by choosing a bad first job.

Appreciate it! I will take a look.

In that case, Malaysia could well be included! Didn't realise they played it like that.

I love to go into a new team and sell off all the deadwood and replace it with younger players that fit into my tactics. I find that to be better in Europe than in Asia. Also, I can try and take a small European teams far into the European competitions.

If i'm honest, I lost track of the cups early in this challenge! I was hell bent on getting those European Competitions in the bag.

South Korea World Cup 2034 Review

This years World Cup was hosted by us, I felt the fans were quietly optimistic that we could turn a few heads being on home soil. The FA wanted us to perform well and wanted a 3rd round appearance as a minimum. Lets see how we got on.

Group Stage.

Our group consisted of Sweden and Equador. We were ranked 12th in the world higher than both our opponents so I was confident we would qualify.

Spoiler

20210206123401_1.jpg.86e22573f97c4ea60a32ad5cb3fc6f6f.jpg

We comfortably beat Sweden 3-1, Sweden only had 2 shots at goal and scored with their only shot on target. Our second game was a tighter affair but I never felt in danger of losing. It took a penalty to give us a win

Second Round (if applicable)

Our second round against the Ivory Coast, we dominated really but just could not score. It needed a dreaded penalty shootout to take us through

Third Round (if applicable)

The FA wanted a third round appearance to be happy and they got thir wish. We met Holland and I was sure we would be going out. But in a closer game than I thought we needed to go to extra time to get the win.

Quarter Final (if applicable)

So to the quarters and we faced Brazil. I thought we got lucky against Holland, and did not think we would see a repeat here. Brazil are just to good, #1 in the World. But it could have been a different game if our early goal would have stood.

Semi Final (if applicable)

Who would have thought we would see a world cup final between Iran and Mexico????

IT is now July and we have the Asian Cup coming up in Jan, I cannot wait. I hope we can win it first time but am concerned about Irans performance in the World Cup and they won the Asian Cup last time round. It will either be us or them who win it. I was offered the Spain, Turkey, Portugal and USA jobs after the World Cup I would have been tempted any other time but I need to get this Asian Cup out of they way.

I managed to win my first competition as manager by winning the Campeonato Uruguayo(Uruguay Top Division)

I wasn't expecting to do so well so soon. I haven't cheated either. I just picked a good tactic similar to how Sean Dyche has Burnley set up and it works well in South America.

Here is the tactic I use.

image.thumb.png.1979c334fd017ee4843bd391dce9cae9.png

My topscorer with 12 goals was Rodrigo De Olivera.

My reputation is now 25% so I am off to apply for a bigger job in South America. San Lorenzo needs a manager so I have applied for their job.

Tottenham Hotspur 2033/34

As we only missed the title by 3 points last season with us improving as the season went on I didn't really want to conduct much transfer business this summer with the only area that I needed an upgrade was at striker. Thankfully, I'd a striker in mind at Flamengo who had a £16 million release fee, and so came in Mexican Giovani Gaytan, though he in the end wasn't my only first team signing of the window as his teammate at both club and national level Victor Orozco. Orozco for his career so far had predominantly been playing on the left wing, so naturally, I retrained him to play defensive midfield. Honestly, I'm pretty sure Orozco could play anywhere on the pitch based on his attributes, defensive midfield was just the area that he'd improve the team the most. Gaytan and Orozco were both big factors in my resignation from USA, they're just way better than anyone they had. I was also offered a job this summer as PSG came sniffing, but I had unfinished business here.

The season started with the community shield as we demolished last seasons premier league champions Manchester City 3-0, and that provided a good catalyst to the start of our season as we were playing very well and winning most our games. Though, we did suffer our first defeat of the season just 6 games in as an almighty drab affair against Newcastle saw us succumb to a 1-0 defeat. But other than that the large majority of the season comprised of us winning games and not conceding many goals. In fact, for the longest time we were on a run that meant every time that we scored a goal we won the match, a run that lasted 23 games before a disappointing draw from 2 up against our title rivals Manchester United.

37eb09e9d7d1cddf806d43fd6264d23a.png
Whilst we'd had a very good season to date, so had Manchester United and when we played them it was basically a two horse race for the title though we did have a little bit of a points buffer. March, however, did see us lose our 2nd and 3rd match of the season, this time probably against teams that were having below par seasons but were still strong teams, though the first of these two losses was against Liverpool ad the manner which we lost was disappointing, we started the game well before just capitulating, conceding two penalties and then a goal where my goalkeeper just kicked it against their strikers head the match finishing 5-2. The other loss was two games later as Manchester City beat us 1-0, this game was probably reminiscent of the Newcastle game earlier in the season whereby it was a pretty dull game, though Manchester City were value for their 1-0 victory. However, Manchester United didn't take advantage of either loss as they, too lost their matches on those game weeks. Following the loss to Manchester City however, we went the remaining 7 league games conceding only once with 7 wins on the bounce to, in the end comfortably win the league.

08201437b7b3dc8bda9da79893744536.png44536

The cups this season of course didn't matter to us in challenge terms so I used both the League Cup and FA Cup as means of rotating the squad a bit to allow the squad players minutes. It's testament to the strength of the squad that we actually managed to win the League cup, and included some comprehensive victories, a 4-0 against Liverpool and a match that would be sure to be talked about for some time with a 5-0 victory over bitter rivals Arsenal in final. The FA cup wasn't to be this year as an altogether drab match against Manchester United saw them score 2 goals from the penalty spot to win 2-1 in extra time.

The other competition to mean something this season was, of course the Champions league, which we got drawn alongside Bayern Munich and the team I turned down in the summer, PSG. We won our first 4 games, with the team played twice being PSG, the first game against them actually saw us turn around a 2 goal deficit. The next game against Bayern saw me rotate as we were already through and they took advantage winning 2-1. We got a favourable draw in the next two rounds with Fiorentina and Real Sociedad. The former we beat 5-0 on aggregate though the latter, again saw a game lost due to rotation. We won the first leg 3-0 but I was a little worried after 20 minutes of the second leg as they went 2-0 up, but 2-0 it stayed until the 90+2 minute where we sealed the victory. Our semi-final was against a Chelsea side that were having a poor season (presumably their first poor season of the save as Frank Lampard was still their till he was sacked this year) and we battered them 4-0 in the firrst leg and 2-0 with a rotated side in the second. Which meant, Barcelona were the team that stood in the way of us and Champions League glory. It was another game where the quality was perhaps lacking going all the way till the 117th minute before a goal, to Barcelona and no Champions League for Tottenham.

dd0b32e4539d1df98db740c0d80ef688.png

Best Player: Nicolas Smets

Our new striker Gaytan scored 54 goals this season so could have been in with a shout, but Smets was just a powerhouse in central defense a large contributor to our 24 league clean sheets this season and he averaged 7.45 across all competitons, very consistent, and looking ever more a bargain at just £32 million.

93d5f311b3619434e9b1eba621977fc7.png

What next?

As good of a season as I could have hoped for this year, but there's no sense in me staying here, so I'll be looking for a new job this summer. I'll also be looking at international jobs after the world cup. The Spain job is guaranteed to come up as their manager is set to take over at Chelsea which would be a good one to get, but I'll settled for anyone that has a reasonable chance of wining their continental competition (minus Africa of course)

Story so far

2031

image.png.b2aa7f73df7493dfc124c9376450f63c.png

In an unusual turn of events, the league was the bottom of my priority list after crushing it with an unbeaten the year before. I thought we would retain after winning our opening ten games but we came unstuck to Tianjin TEDA 4-1 - a result which would ultimately be costly as we ended up losing out on the league title on head to head with them (they did the double over us). There were a lot of silly points dropped, however fitness with a couple of our key players meant we rotated heavily for the league. We still ended up on a healthy 67 points, winning 22 out of 30 games, however it wasn't to be as we narrowly missed out.

So on to what we're interested in, and firstly the Chinese Cup. After we beat Guangzhou Evergrande in round five the competition looked ours for the taking. We drew Shanghai SIPG in the semi finals - the team which beat us last year - with the winners playing a side in the bottom half of the league in the final. The game was absolute carnage. Both teams led but ultimately they edged it with a 5-4 victory in 90 minutes, and the wait for my first cup win goes on.

That left the Champions League. The group itself was straight forward again, and after simple knock out game wins we were drew against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the semi finals. Given they had won the last three years, and sides from East Asia had won the last seven I saw this was effectively our final. The first leg we led at home, but they came back into it with a 1-1 draw and importantly for them an away goal making our task tricky. The second leg was close but they took a 2-1 lead on the night but a late goal for us sent us through to the final on away goals where we were drawn against Al-Shabab from Saudi Arabia.

Complacency, or more like stupidity on my part, made this tricky. We led the first leg 3-0 after 60 minutes, and with a couple of key players showing as fitness concerns I made a triple change to ensure they would make the second leg. This was a huge mistake as we threw away two goals and ended up winning 3-2, however gave them two away goals and a way back into the tie. Second leg and those away goals immediately came back to bite us, as we went 1-0 down after 3 minutes which forced us to chase. The game went back and forth however on 71 minutes we equalised and that was enough for a 4-3 win and my first continental trophy.

As for what's next - one option is to stay and attempt to win the FA Cup, however I've already opted to resign and look for jobs elsewhere. This time however I'm going to be patient and wait for the right job. Some of the interesting ones where the job is available or under pressure I've got my eye on are Leeds (for obvious reasons, solid Premiership side), Sampdoria (bottom three, manager just left to take Croatia job), Werder Bremen (Bundesliga relegation zone) and Hearts (tenth in Scottish Premier). Failing those I'll be looking at Brazil and Mexico, unless a Champions League side from South Africa come up

Well brief summary of 1st season. We joined CF Atlante in Mexican 2nd division, half way through the season they were 2nd bottom but had a good wage budget. Little did i know they had 6 players out on loan on big bucks meaning i couldn't bring anybody in except a cm01/02 legend. 44 and still going I remember Sebastian Abreu from my Deportivo days, we finished bottom after going 12 without a win, however managed 2 draws and beating 3rd in the league 4-0 last 3 games. I shifted 3 of the loans for some decent money and started the process of rebuilding. It was promising but i stupidly applied for another job and got sacked. I did manage my C licence out of them so not all lost.

season 2021/2022

 image.png.d36ebebf2e8d511f8dd948f61b44d111.png

Turned down several jobs and decided to take the job in the South African 2nd division. Good ground, decent budget, mid table finish as requirement. welcome to Polokwane City. I didn't have much time to prepare the season was starting in a few weeks and I had 3 friendlies to asses what I had. First thing I noticed club was top heavy with defensives minded players and had few decent strikers. I must have taken 200 guys on loan trying to find so attacking flair or wingers. I also bought Abreu from Mexico with me mainly for his mentoring. The club also had 5 decent prospects. Menzi being pick of the bunch.

image.thumb.png.03ccab28d87ce2677939e8609ceeb0ab.png

I wasn't able to bring the required quality so embraced what i had and developed a 532 system. Menzi would play nearly all season as one of the 3, to compliment the youngestest i was able to bring in some experience in midfield, plus a Ghana international centre back.

First half of the season went well, we won 12, drew 1 lost 2 and was sitting 2nd. Martizburg United were too strong for the league and even won the National cup beating teams from the prem. At the half stage point we were sitting 2nd. Us and Chippi were well clear of 4th and good for the playoffs. Well we had our Devon Loch moment and a mid season collapsed cost us the playoffs. I put it down to training, my coaches were awful and every player constantly moaned about them but i wasn't able to bring anybody in. More annoying we beat Richard Bay 3 times included in the cup were we played with 10 men for 85 mins. Even a run of 5 straight wins wasn't enough as they beat martizburg. Last game of the season we played the day beofre and beat Chipp who were 2nd 4-1 so we needed 2nd bottom of the league to beat Bay by 5 goals. I wasn't hopefully Bay did lose but only 2-1. So after an amazing start to the finish a run of 6 games without a win cost us from a position which seemed impossible. To top it off we have lost 3 of our experienced players to poachers.

image.png.f390f4d4d51249e8289becd131d2e659.png

player of the season was below, he didn't play much at the start due to rules of having to have 3 under 23s in starting season but I managed to bring in a midfield 18 year old on loan who now signed so he played 2nd half and was a goal machine.
image.thumb.png.20fb614b6ee48fd2ce9832da8b562644.png

what's next.

I'll probably stick around another season and longer if we go up. We have another batch of players come from who the club think is our "Golden Generation" Menzi will probably move into midfield next season and we have picked up some prospect from teams around us and managed to keep the Ghana international and few others. However the clubs in debt so I've let all the big earners I think I can replace go and will use the youngest mixed with experience. We changed from 532 to 433 for our run at the end of the season so will try and recruit players to play like that. We good at cb and midfield but need 2 new fullbacks and a right winger. I have a left winger 16 year old who doesn't look much but he plays 9 every week in training and scored 4 goals in the run in so he deserves his shot. I've got to find a way to improve the coaching side of things. Abreu retiring but I hope he'll stick around. I built a decent backroom team at my first club mainly ex premiership Americans like Joe Max Moore and Brian McBride so will try and persuaded them to come over. I think I can build something here but is if I have the time and can keep the poachers away I'm having to leave all my youth players on small contracts as if they go pro they'll just get taken. I would only leave them for the Kaiser Chiefs job. It a big season and we have to make the playoffs. The board have been good to me giving me my B licence and sure they will give me the A as well.

the post would not be complete without posting a legend of the series for the last 25 years.

I said in my World Cup review it would be between us and Iran for the Asian Cup. I wasnt wrong and we only slightly edged it with one of their players scoring an own goal from a corner.  The next day I resigned, I currently do not have a job, my rep is 75% so I am hoping I can start to attract bigger clubs to give me a chance and start racking up some trophies

So many new people in the thread. Welcome to all of you.

I've not had too much time to play recently (trying to get ready for my child being born...) but I still have some news

Firstly, some news from the domestic game in Germany...

WE FINALLY BEAT BAYERN!!!

didit.PNG.1b95bd7e03acbacdb60d30686a26cb9d.PNG

Granted this is the German Supercup, so doesn't count to my tally for the challenge, but getting over the mental block of last year is a great achievement. Bayern have an incredibly strong squad (see the spoiler below) and are still the favourites again for another Bundesliga crown...

Spoiler

However, I've invested well I think. My scouts have been fantastic this summer, finding five wonderkids in Henrique, Mendez, Martinez, Williams and Jespersen. We sold some deadwood and picked up a good fee from Inter for Schlager. The funds were then invested in to solid players such as Grimaldo, Bellingham and Christensen, all whom were transfer listed. Both Aurier and Gotze were signed on frees during the latter half of last season to provide depth and tutelage for some youngers I have.

image.thumb.png.26aa51a25eb63a7d682bcfd3cfd0d583.png

We're still 4th favourites for the title this year, but Leipzig and Dortmund both had poor years last season and I think we can still pip them to 2nd. Depending on how close we get this year will determine whether I hang around or not.

In other news... I'm no longer the manager of Ghana - I've been headhunted...

French Football Federation logo.svg

VIVE LA FRANCE

So this is random. Despite not attending a major international tournament with Ghana (and winning all but all one of the matches), I was offered two international jobs on the spot after Euro 2024. Both the Dutch and French jobs were available, and it was almost a no brainer to pick the French.

Why? Well - they are the reigning World, European and Nations League champions...

Even more bizarrely, the previous manager Rudi Garcia won the World Cup, Euros and two Nations Leagues with Les Bleus, before resigning from the role. He now manages Spain.

The squad is still insane and all the usual suspects are still kicking around. The World Cup is in two years and this presents me a great opportunity to knock off one of the toughest competitions to win early on.

I managed to get promoted through a 2nd place position but 4th overall cos I aint got a clue as the South American leagues confuse me but I got promoted lol.

Facundo Salto who I managed to sign on a free transfer from Racing Club was my best player and top scorer with 15 goals for the season.

My computer broke down in December but I managed to transfer the files onto the new machine, so I'm back.

After being rejected from both Braga and Genoa (Serie B), I was inexplicably offered the Udinese job (Serie A) which I snapped up. In addition, after failing horrendously in the Gold Cup with my Haiti side, I resigned and took up the much stronger Nigerian job in hopes of winning the AfCon.

With Udinese, the squad was pretty much set up for a strong campaign in my system, but I had to bring in a couple quality strikers. The campaign was frustrating because the league felt far more stratified than anything I've experienced before. I stole away only a handful of points from the likes of Lazio, Roma, Juve, Napoli, and Inter, but showed pretty strongly against the rest of the league, particularly in the second half of the season. Most of the results felt way tighter than they needed to be, evidenced by our goal difference being 5 despite finishing 7th. If we got out to an early lead there was an inevitable drop in quality in the second half where we would often concede one or two goals and squander the lead. This feeling got to the point where I was almost happier to go into halftime a goal down when I was confident we would be able to turn up the second half and claw something back. Overall, disappointed with the strikers at the club and they are currently being overpaid.

The good news is we have European football next year and a handful of new lads coming in and hopefully will be able to compete in the league earlier and with more vigour. Hoping for top 4.

I applied for the Braga job again after this season but was rejected again. I also applied for the newly vacated Juve job after they finished 3rd, but I'm not holding my breath.

With Nigeria, we won the African Championship of Nations, which is this odd little tournament that I wasn't aware of. It seems to only allow the inclusion of domestic players, so most of the lineup was Nigerian players who weren't currently employed and therefore based in Nigeria. In the final we faced South Africa, which I was dreading but the win was sweat free. Looking forward to the AfCon.

Threw away an early two goal lead against Romania but easily beat New Zealand to top the group.

Second Round

Spoiler

Losing 1-0 to a pretty poor Iran team until a 78th min penalty put us back in the game, it looked as if it would go to extra time but we snatched it with a last kick winner.

Third Round

Spoiler

We were drawn against a very good Holland team and it looked like a very tough ask. The first half ended 0-0 but surprisingly we were on top and had the best chances, we finally made the chances count and went 1-0 up just before the hour mark, They started throwing men forward and the pressure we were under was immense, as the game went on I started to think that we could maybe hold on. That was until the equalized right at the death to take it into extra time. By this point we were tired, they were a much more physically equipped than us and it was starting to show. We still had a few decent chances on the break but it was looking inevitable that they would score, we were just trying to hang on and take it to the lottery of penalties. It was going to plan until the 120th minute when they finally found the break through, they scored again on the break to make it 3-1 and we were out. Winning the World cup was never really realistic with Senegal but to go out like this to a team that went on to make the final was a killer.

Second Round

Spoiler

Pretty comfortable win, 4-0 at half time I took my 3 best players off and dropped the tactic to the least intense tactic I could possibly set up, Very Defensive, No closing down, short slow passing and waste time. If I had learnt anything from my previous international failures its that condition is key if you want to go deep in tournaments.

Spoiler

My Quarter final curse strikes again, pretty sure this isn't the first time its been the Ivory Coast either. Another game we dominated and just couldn't make our chances count and they punished us.

What Next?

Spoiler

The Senegalese FA wanted me to make at least the final of the AFCON but only to get out the groups of the world cup. With me over performing in the world cup they were very happy with me, I was hoping this would out weigh my failure at the AFCON, I wanted to stay on, they had other ideas.

758009339_Senegalsacked.thumb.jpg.db1dc98d59a3509ec2df1f010e68ce2e.jpg

I've now got to weight for another decent international job to become available, but if I'm honest the player count is starting to get smaller and I'm starting to worry I wont have many more chances at either the Asian Cup or the AFCON. Bit frustrating as the club side of the challenge is going really well so far, to be fair I've tried to the Pentagon numerous times and never even got close, so if I can do that ill be happy.

@lukefox44Adding the top leagues from S Africa, China etc might eventually reverse the diminishing of international jobs. (It might not have that impact immediately, and you're probably always fighting against the tide of disappearing jobs.

If it's any comfort, and frankly it won't be, you're still a very. very long way away from the record of consecutive ACONs lost.

Incidentally your table is wrong. Nigeria in 2035 should be Senegal, but I dare say if you wait long enough, it will be Nigeria again.

The worrying thing is I still have them loaded, the International team are still fine but it starting to get noticeable that it wont last for ever.

What can I say I just love Nigeria, already been there twice and trying to write myself back into it haha.

No I just have a good gaming laptop and only have a few leagues loaded at once to help get through the seasons.

I also leave my DOF to sign players unless I get a scout report and the player looks insane.

I only have Argentina, Brazil, China and South Africa leagues loaded up at the moment. I can't remember what I did for the database but I think it was just a large database with nothing extra loaded. I forgot to load international players from all the continents.

Have I ballsed up and will I have to start again ?

I only ask cos of needing to get international jobs for the challenge.

The honest answer is I don't know because I'm not doing this challenge on FM21. I'm just going on experiences with previous versions.

Having a large database will probably help a lot, but if you get to 2050 or so without an Asian Cup, you may find that there's not many nations left.

That's the way it is with this challenge, folks. It's not guaranteed that any of you will be able to complete it. In one of my attempts I just ran out of Asian nations. (In past versions I've found that China, japan and S Korea give you just one shot).  I also didn't have the Euro, and had lost in the final of the last 2 competitions with Spain (with whom I'd won 3 Nations Leagues. Confederations Cup and a World Cup) , but eventually I'd have won that.

There's all kind of reasons why one might not be able to complete, and that's not including challenge killing bugs such as the one a few years ago that made the Copa Libertadores stop running.

In theory the Club World Championship is quite difficult to win. It used to be the Confederations Cup. There are one or two big pitfalls.
