New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

Recommended Posts

It looks like they bumped up the price because the screen has been upgraded. Previously, the screen was not full HD and now it is. It is worth the extra £50 if you value screen resolution in my opinion. The value is still good, many computers with similar specs are around the same price and again, buying from them directly gives you some good service.

I bought it. I googled 'Dell discount codes' and one for 7% off came up. Tried it and got the discount saving £57 + free delivery!

thanks mate.

The laptop will be purely for FM...Id rather not spend 6/700 because I don't need any advanced graphics cards. I do completely get the point though about scrimping and saving eventually costing you more in the long run! But a laptop isnt central to running my life

(although FM is life of course...)

My 6 year old laptop runs FM13 just about OK

how about this one

http://www.ebuyer.com/523540-hp-250-g1-laptop-h6e24ea-abu

Either of the choices you picked are capable of playing FM for at least 2 generations, but they don't seem to be great value to me. This second choice is probably better value than the last. Your budget seems to be around £300-400, that's perfectly fine. There are ways to get value out of a lower budget. It seems like you're not too fussed with any specs on your computer, but I can't stress enough how important a dedicated video card is for games. It's partly to do with future-proofing as the Intel HD Graphics 4000 can play FM now and I actually think it is quite capable, but it's not been extensively used for gaming and there is no guarantee that it can in even the near future. And perhaps you would like to expand on your computer use in the future, maybe some games with better graphics etc. Because of this, I would recommend something like this: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Toshiba-L870-PSKFPE-00U00MEN_1349497.html

It's highly recommended for budget gaming, and I would probably say it is better than both of your previous choices. In addition, I can see this computer comfortably lasting you for the next 3, 4, maybe even more iterations of FM. This is the reason I said your first choice wasn't great value as it didn't have great specs and in addition was a refurbished model. If you don't like this one I can also recommend others.

what about this one? I've been warned off i3 processors...

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/LENOVO-G580-MBB4HUK_1385696.html

That should run it fine, but the i3 on the computer I suggested actually benchmark higher than the other ones you had your eye on before. This one you picked has a lot of muscle, it should work fine but again it doesn't have dedicated graphics. If you're ok with that, then it's a computer that can do a lot for you.

Ill try keep this short and sweet lol......

Ive just read through the enitre thread and my poor little head has just gone BOOOOOOOM!

I wont pretend to be as computer clued up as you smart chaps so please dont crucify me :)

From the impression im getting from the thread am I right in thinking ideally to play FM14 well your going to require:

Intel® Core™ i7 (and not bellow)

8GB RAM (or more)

Dedicated graphics card

Then your bread & butter of big hard drive etc.....

Is this correct? Obviously everyone asks and asks and yes im another but is there any incredibly helpful fellows that could list a few ideal choice laptops for FM13-14. Not got a great budget £500-600(ish) i likely my limit that I can justify spending. I notice alot of the recommended ones are around the £699 mark annoyingly on the saveonlaptops site.

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/MSI-CX61-CX61_2OD-225UK_1434703.html

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ACER-V3-571G-NX.M69EK.001_1318329.html

So my question is firstly is my rec specs correct or can you afford to aim a little lower etc. I was utterly when I FM13 came out and I could no longer load 10+ leagues with large database without massive processing times. Hoping to get a new laptop by xmas time so the major patches are all out etc then ill get FM14 with a new laptop if I save enough by that time lol.

Hello guys,

Im on to buy a new laptop, since mine is been "dead" for a long time ago (ive been playing mainly in the PC) and as FM is the only game I play outside the Xbox I want the laptop to be prepared to run well.

My budget is between 400 and 700 euros max, but i would ideally spend between 500-600 since the only use the laptop will have, outside playing FM, is the Office pack and internet for work.

Can you please recommend me the minimum and ideal specs for laptop or models already available in the market?

I have no idea about Graphic cards (if Nvidia, AMD, memory, etc...) nor the CPU speed (if 1,8, 2,2, 2,5, 2,8 or 3,0) and since im buying a new one i imagine it will be Windows 7 or 8 and if that influences the minimum specs needed. Help would be apreciated since i need to buy it in the next few weeks!

cheers

I feel that you're asking for the impossible, the issue of limited cooling properties on Laptops will get in the way of having a 'quick' all leagues save. I get away with it on my desktop thanks to liquid cooling & lots of space in the case for additional airflow cooling, I'd never attempt such a large save on a laptop.

I reckon a well designed gaming laptop can just about do it - the ASUS G750 I picked up two days ago is practically as fast as any desktop (bar bigger CPUs and graphics cards that might give you a marginal extra frame here and there), and it runs cooler than my previous laptop, as it's designed to take a workout from both the i7 and the GeForce 770M.

I'm not running *all* leagues, mind you. Only about 40 of them.

hey guys what one of these two laptops would u say is best or if yous know a better one for this sort price if could tell me

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/LENOVO-Z500-_MBYJTUK_1477490.html

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/MSI-CX61-CX61_2OD-010UK_1389669.html

I would say the MSI one is slightly better but not by much. They are both more than good enough for FM.

Will this laptop be good enough for FM 14 . Going to run it anyway but how fast will it be is the question

• Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

• 3rd generation Intel® Core i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)

• Intel HD Graphics 4000

• 17.3-inch diagonal Full High Definition Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)

• 12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)

• 750GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive

Those computers are very powerful but you don't need those for FM14. The reason it is difficult to recommend computers is because 1. processing times are different depending on whether it is a match day, what you are doing, how many seasons you have played etc. Also, for you a long processing time may be 1 or 2 minutes whereas I can handle waiting 3 or 4 or even longer because I watch videos and play other games while I run FM.

To run FM smoothly, you can get away with something like this: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/LENOVO-G700-59381343_1403342.html or this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/LENOVO-Z500-_MBYJTUK_1477490.html

or even something like this to save yourself some money http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/LENOVO-Z500-Z5006gb_1474675.html

My own computer for comparison is similar to the first one you picked but with less RAM. It runs FM very very well but I believe that I could get away with buying something cheaper if I needed to. I definitely load more than 10 leagues and I am perfectly happy with my speed. You can downgrade your RAM for a £50 discount on the site: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/MSI-CX61-CX61_2OD-225UK_1475353.html. However, the screen is not the best quality in either option.

You don't need i7, or even i5 to play FM14. The minimum requirements for the game are:

PC System Requirements

OS: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 Intel Core AMD Athlon XP: 1.6GHz+ V/7/8: 2.2GHz+

Memory: 1 GB RAM

Graphics: NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Ultra ATI Radeon 9800 Intel GMA X3100 128MB VRAM

DirectX: Version 9.0c

Network: Broadband Internet connection

Hard Drive: 3 GB available space

Now I don't know what the market prices are for your country, but for 600 Euros you are looking at somewhere around £500, which is more than enough to play FM, depending on how many leagues you want to run, how many years you want to play (in-game and in real life), etc. For that price, I recommend something like this:

Intel i3 3210M - i5 3210M

4 - 8GB RAM

Nvidia GT6XXM-GT7XXM series OR ATI Radeon HD7600M-HD7700M series

Since you play on your console, I will assume you don't play any graphically intensive games on your PC and this should be fine, and last you for several years.

Thanks for the help,

Can someone give the opinion about these two models please:

http://www.elcorteingles.es/tienda/informatica/browse/productDetail.jsp?categoryId=999.087&productId=A9289258

and

http://www.aceronline.es/portatiles-acer/acer-aspire-gama-consumo/acer-aspire-15-6/acer-aspire-e1-571g-73618g50maks-nx-m57eb-030.html

The idea is to last as long as possible (3, 4 years), playing around 5 to 6 countries (15-20 leagues most) and without any issue during the 3D match and with a quick development of the game.

In Spain, where i live, any PC with a dedicated graphic card NVIDIA or ATI Radeon seems to go as up as 700-800 euros. And yes, i already play FM in the PC at home and its the only game i use outside the console so there´s no need to be a great laptop on the graphic dep.

thanks

First of all: Does anyone have experience with playing FM13 on a Lenovo Yoga 13 – does the touchscreen work properly when used in tablet mode?

I am considering buying the new Yoga 2 Pro with best processor. I think the spec are something like this:

Windows 8.1

4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4500U Processor

8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz

Integrated Intel® HD graphics 4400

13.3" high-resolution QHD+ (3200 x 1800)

Would that work properly with the new FM14? Haven’t got much idea about graphic cards etc. and would appreciate if someone with better tech skills could tell me? ;-)

Both are good but the Acer is better value. It should do what you want, for a few years. Well, I have a similar computer and I hope for the same thing, that's all I can say!

It can run FM14, depending on your settings for the game. However, FM13 is not touch screen optimized and you will find it hard to drag players around or right clicking etc. FM14 seems to be similar.

Many thanx for the superb, informative reply.

Certainly taking that all into consideration. My current laptop runs FM13 fairly well the star system when setting up a game is on 1/2 a star (though I hear this is buggy anyway). On FM12 and previous my laptop could handle pretty much all the key leagues (15+) on full detail an with the largest database as I like to play a real as possible so my journey could take me anywhere and also so say im playing somebody smaller in early european stages they actually have a full squad, rather than just greyed out players etc...

FM13 certainly was alot slower on processing the same number of leagues etc. For example I tried loading what I'd normally load on fm12 and it took over 45 minutes to process past the first day click. So i've had to massively scale down the number of leagues. Obviously I understand after a few seasons it wont be a quick as first season say but its just frustrating as my enjoyment has been knocked a little bit. I get frustrated at waiting 1-2 minutes to process on a day. Thats ideally what im looking to improve when I invest in a new laptop. That & getting back to loading more leagues again on new game set up. Obviously with computers technology is consantly evolving so I fully accept my current laptop is a little dated now.

Ive got until just after Xmas time anyway to decide as I dont purchase FM until after the major patches are out and little bugs have been ironed out. By them I can assemble the face, logo, kit packs etc...

I saw the promotional video of the 14 FM (tech) that says the game has been optimized, so will be faster than the 2013 (which I found very slow). The 2012 was very satisfying for me in regards to processing speed (passage of days), I am confident that for fm 2014 my computer run the game quickly. My settings are: I5 2.4 up to 3.0 Ghz, 8gb ram with video card integrated intel graphics 3000 :)

I love to play with around 50,000 players loaded (load many countries see only, leaving only playable where vision training, and carry a personalized the database, according to my interests in the game)

I am passionate about fm, to very confident and excited to arrive soon fm 2014!

right fm13 ran fairly poorly on my current laptop which is fairly old tbh! i believe these are the specs of it...

ntel® Corel2 DUO CPU

P7370 @2.00GHz

1.58 GHz 2.93 GB of RAM

physical address extension

i am looking to buy a new laptop for fm14, microsoft office (purely for uni work) and the internet but im rubbish with technology and would have no idea which laptop is good to run fm off. (obviously all laptops have word and internet)

so could anyone suggest a laptop for me to buy, budget could be anything up to 400-450 ish! i am also open to the idea of a desktop if they are cheaper etc?

not a clue about tech so could you give me a laptop and give me the reasons why as i wont know by looking at it! cheers lads

Hi there,

I'm in need of some advice here. I'm looking at the possibility of buying a laptop with the specs below:

Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor, 2.4GHz, 6MB cache

Windows 8

NVIDIA GeForce GTX765M 2GB GDDR5

12GB DDR3 RAM

750GB HDD (7200rpm) + Super Raid 256GB SSD

This laptop is intended to play solely FM14 and it's future series. I intend to upload the highest number of player possible while playing the Argentinian Second Division and above, English League 2 Division and above, Spanish Segunda Division and above, Italian Serie B and above. On top of that, I wish to have the German First Division, French First Division, Brazilian First Division, Dutch First Division and Portuguese First Division in the background.

With the specs stated above and the way I intend to play the game, will it be possible for me to run Football Manager at a fast processing speed, ie 5 star rating and highest 3d graphics, ie 5 star rating..?

Thank you.

I am a little worried about mine. I could buy a new laptop, but this one is still in good shape with years ahead of it. Idk if a game warrants buying a new laptop just for its use.

Intel Core i3-2350m 2.3GHz

4gb RAM

Intel HD Graphics 3000

like last summer. So about 14-15 months ago.

If you load very few leagues on it, you could play FM14 and FM15 no worries. Don't want your investment to go to waste, but you could possibly use it for the next version or two then pass it on to someone else who doesn't play games.

I believe you could run maybe the biggest leagues with a small/medium database and it should progress at a decent pace. It's important to experiment.

ak71 - that would run FM just fine.

Thanks for the reply, Eugene.

My apology but i wish to clarify further. When you mention that it'll run FM just fine, does it mean that the processing speed is just fine, that is average or it'll be just fine to run at the fastest processing speed with all my preferred league setting..?

Thanks again.

Is anyone kind enough to cast an eye over this? I usually have a pretty terrible record for buying electronics.

Main focuses are that it will allow me to play FM and listen to music at the same time, and will let me browse the internet and watch iPlayer without too many problems, while my budget is about £500.

It is an i-7. That is top of the line. Pretty good find for a good price.

The RAM is at a decent size. You can always expand it to 8. But 4 is solid.

I think an Intel HD Graphics 4000 is a solid graphics card but idk.

Let's be clear here - just because it's an i7 does not make it top of the line.

There are i5 processors that would be better than this - but more expensive.

Anywho - that processor is a fast quad core processor with hyperthreading - but it's not the "top of the line"

In terms of release - it's a generation behind the latest quad core processors.

But it's a very decent processor and will be fine for FM.

Would my laptop be too slow to run?

Processor AMD E2-1800 (1.7 GHz, 1 MB cache)

Operating system Windows 8

Storage 750 GB HDD

PERFORMANCE RAM 6 GB

Graphics card AMD Radeon HD 7340

Your processor is a dual core processor - it will work for FM13 - but I'd keep the database small and the leauges to up about 5 but no more.

You could try go for more leagues, or less leagues - and test whcih works best for you.

Your graphics card is integrated - built into the processor - it's a decent graphics card and should be able to play 3D matches on low-mid quality - but again you can test this yourself.

You have plenty of RAM.

If you want to put your computer to the test - you can try things like gamebooster or other things out there.

This basically turns off processes that aren't necessary while you're playing the game. But I don't know if it's worth trying them.

For the game to run more smoothly for you best to not have any unnecessary programs running in the background, like playing video/music or any other tasks you might perform while playing FM.

http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

And using CCleaner is a good idea.

And please be very careful - do research on anything you are not sure of - if you don't know what it is don't disable it and don't remove it.
