From a bit more digging through recent advice, it seems these 3 are all pretty good.

Which would you recommend most, and anything better for the same (or ideally less) money?

https://www.box.co.uk/30029417-Medion-Erazer-E10-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-_3201865.html

https://www.box.co.uk/20VE005EUK-Lenovo-ThinkBook-15-G2-Intel-Core-i5-8GB_3226782.html

From my understanding, the Erazer has the strongest processor?

Processing speed is more important than graphics for me - will play 2D.

Thanks again!

Honor magic. I think. Let me check in the morning

I have been offered this laptop for 650 would this last me few years on fm and able to load up few leagues and nations and be smooth the processor seems fairly decent just not sure if I need dedicated graphics as I play 2d cheers

If it's the same then go for it.

No idea really which one was offered to you.

So, I am finally upgrading my ageing PC for a new year of glorious FM hate/love adventures, and I am looking to buy one of the new Adler Lake processors. I get I'll have to buy a new motherboard, but with the new atx12vo standard, will I have to buy a new PSU, replace my Asus Xonar sound card, buy a new graphics card (GTX 1080), and so on as well? I have tried to google, but it's just a crazy jungle of words to me.

Your graphics card will be fine.

Your PSU will most likely be fine, but without knowing what PSU and CPU you currently have, it's impossible to say for sure.

Your sound card should also be fine if your new mobo has enough PCI-E slots for that and any other hardware you have which required PCI-E slots.

So graphics card pretty pointless for fm then thanks for help mate

The processor has an internal graphics processor.

Most will handle 3d on low level settings.

But for 2d the internal graphics is fine

How many leagues and nations you loaded and what did star rating show I know that can be miss leading tho lol

This is ambiguous.

You can load all leagues and nations and large database and get 5 stars.

The in-game star-rating (last I know of) isn't accurate.

The only thing that matters if you're happy with the progress of the in game day to day.

For some 5 minutes is superfast - and others it's superslow.

Realistically, you load the leagues/nations/database size of the game you want to play - so it performs at a speed that you're happy with.

Two people could have the exact same specs (including Macs) and the exact same leagues/nations - and the progress could be too slow for 1 person and just right for another person.

If you don't play 3D matches - or only once in a while - the Honor Magic is a good choice

If you're playing 2D only then the Honor Magic

image.png.56db3dae9529a6c578b15ff75fc575a1.png

Much better processor then the Erazer.

The Erazer and the other one are close.

I even compared them for you - highlighted green the better - red the not so better

image.png.53712e390704e486426f41146a15780e.png

The graphics card for the Honor Magic is in red - that's just because the Erazer has a dedicated graphics card. The others don't.

However, the Honor Magic can still play matches in 3D if you wanted to - just set the detail level to low-medium (or whatever setting you're happy with)

Same goes for the Iris XE.

Honor Magic

The biggest thing here is the processor - it's better.

It has more RAM.

It has a larger hard drive.

Only negative - it has no dedicated graphics card - not a huge deal if only playing FM and mostly 2D.

Erzer

If anyone else was interested and wanted 3D matches in Full Detail - the Erazer model is a very capable machine.

Lenovo

As is the Lenovo - very capable for FM - but 3D mathces on Low Detail - or just play  in 2d if preferred.

Better processor

Yeah it's insane. Performance is amazing.

Will benchmark as soon as the FM 22 Benchmark thread is online.

I just wanted to highlight this conversation here.

And to clarify - the Macbook Pro 14 inch is a very good laptop.

It's also £2400

I was wrong saying the £1300!!!

Bloody heck £2400!!!

For reference - if anyone wants similar performance in a PC Laptop

https://www.box.co.uk/GA401QM-K2023T-ASUS-ROG-Zephyrus-G14-AMD-Ryzen-9-32GB-R_3554166.html

And for the record - if you're spending over £1000 on a laptop for FM it's likely to be a flyer.

Anything over £2000 and you might as well start offering services to launch satelites for NASA.

Just to reitteriate - there is nothing amazing about the Mac M1 chip - it's just a processor that is good - and you can get a similar performance for about half the price.

Enjoy the new Mac.

It's a beast!

But that price is insane.

That's incredibly helpful, thank you.

For the RAM difference and minor other areas that the higher spec model is better, would you say the extra £100 is worth it compared to the 14". Portability isn't a huge question either - a bit of time on a train here and there, but nothing else.

For crying out loud. Why do you ALWAYS have to keep mentioning this.

I DON'T WANT TO USE WINDOWS! I WANT TO USE MAC!

So no, I can't have a similar PC laptop .. because those can't run macOS.

People ask me how the performance is on the 14" MacBook Pro.
So stop replying with those dumb comments about the price.

The comments are valid.  Yes, the new M1 Macs are very good indeed.  And some people will want Macs for a specific reason, whether it be they're used to Mac OS, or because of a specific piece of software they use for work which isn't available on Windows.

But for the general user, who doesn't have such requirements, spending the extra money on a Mac is a waste of money when you can get equivalent performance for half the price.

Part of what we do is doing everything we can to ensure people get value for money - so Smurf's points about the price of the Macs are very much valid within the context of this thread.  And for balance, we will both also point out that the Macbook Air M1 cannot be beaten for price or performance (currently) for anyone who wants a 13" machine.

I want to buy a new laptop for fm22 and for the first time in my life I've enough money to buy something better than a toaster. My limit is 1400 euro (which makes around 1200 pound I believe) and playing with more leagues selected is more important for me than having great graphics (which would be fine though). Do you have any suggestions?

I don't know much about gaming laptops but after some "research" I found gigabyte g5 and lenovo legion 5 pro. what would you say about them?

Both are excellent.

If you play any games aside from FM, I'd suggest the second one as it has a better graphics card.

If you only play FM, then I'd choose the first one because it's cheaper and had a higher capacity SSD.

They both have the same CPU, which is an excellent performer and both have 16GB RAM.

Hi I'm looking to buy a new laptop to play fm22 with a budget near to £1000. I'd like to play the 3d match engine at a mid to high detail range. Out of these two laptops if any would you recommend. I would only really use the laptop for FM.

Hi have a Chromebook Lenovo IdeaPad 5i, I have so far been unsuccessful in installing and playing previous editions of FM.

I've been looking into a gaming VPS server that hosts Windows and would allow me to install Steam and Football Manager.

I'm looking to spend roughly £10-20 a month , does anybody have any recommendations on companies?

For that price you could get an M1 Mac. Gaming laptops seem to get incredibly hot and the battery is awful. The Macbook I just bought is great on battery and has only ever got 'warm'.

FM isn't supported on Chrome OS.

Have no idea about the rest.

This is untrue for many reasons - I have a gaming laptop - never gets hot at all.

Macs can get hot, very hot

The fact that yours only gets 'warm' just means you may not be putting it through the same strain as someone else might.

Sacrafice for Macbook Air is screen size

They are the best 13 inch portably laptop for the price - and if you're happy with that screen size the go for it.

13inch Macbook Air
 €1200
256gb hard drive
13 inch screen

13inch Macbook Air
 €1400
512gb hard drive
13 inch screen

Next Macs start at €2249

For me - No thanks

Of course. Besides if I am doing heavy multi tasking or running ludicrous amounts of leagues, are you likely to notice much of a performance difference between 8gb and 16 gb RAM given the CPU and SSD are the same? OP suggests perhaps not - but I understand the £599 one is going to be objectively *better*.

The one I would go for the is the Honor Magic - it's a better processor.

The RAM will be a benefit in some scenarios, but overall it won't impact FM hugely.

General rule of thumb is go with the better processor. Which is the Honor Magic, and it has more RAM than the others anyway.
If you want to play matches in 3D in mid-high detail - then go with the one on the left

Either is excellent for FM.

If it were me I'd go for the 5800H - as it has more cores/threads.

But if you want to save £100 then the 5600H is absolutely fine.
