Eleventh Update

End of Season 2 - May 2024

Coppa Italia:

Spoiler

1. This is where we left off in the last update, the Quarter Final:

Spoiler

2. Semi Final 1st leg:

Spoiler

3. Semi Final 2nd leg:

Spoiler

Another crazy comeback game! Loving Coppa Italia a lot :D

Just like against Roma, a sub made a difference off the bench. This time Man came on in the 68th minute and changed the game around with 2 goals. Bernabe's free kick was pretty nice as well.

It almost went to Penalty Shootout as Fiorentina got a goal back in final few minutes of extra time but Parma managed to hold on.

image.thumb.png.26d8d9cbe809b94fed18ee5116139a59.png

Our Coppa Italia run also boosted our finances and for the first time its not in the red anymore :brock:

4. Final!

Spoiler

1. Our Final opponent - Napoli who beat Lazio 3-1 on aggregate.

image.thumb.png.76df48731050e1aad8f5fe8e9d3598ea.png

2. Our vice captain got injured :(, 4 days later. Napoli didn't even played their strongest team. Most of their starters didn't play :onmehead:Must be a mind game for the Final :D

image.thumb.png.54ef58ec4358a975e6bf656f36437b6a.png

3. Disappointing spectators numbers, less than 20k in a 68k+-capacity Olimpico Stadium in Rome. Always a bane for Coppa Italia I guess.

A disappointing result in the end but not the performance. In an even game, not many Napoli Key highlights shown, though they had a goal from Ruiz ruled out for offiside in the 43rd minute.

This is one of the moment where as I managed I put my hands up and take responsibility for the lost. Why? Because I made the wrong choice in my extra substitution in extra time.

I still had Man on the bench - the 2 goals extra time hero in the Semi Final 2nd leg match. I was in a dilemma whether to subbed out Zannimachia (playing well 7+) for Man or Bernabe (not playing well 6.7) for Kurtic. Wrongly decided on the latter and it came back to haunt me as both Kurtic and Zannimachia had their penalties saved in the shootout :(

A big what if scenario, where if Man had came on instead, he could have scored in extra time like against Fiorentina or Kurtic and Zannimachi wouldn't be on the pitch to miss their penalties. Gutted! :(

Regardless, proud of the performance and Parma was never expected to reach this far anyway :D

Buffon (7.3), Balogh (7.4), Circati and Valenti (7.5), Zannimachia (7.2) all played well in the Final.

Yes, I played Buffon just incase Parma lifted the trophy :D

image.thumb.png.4d21d8a28935ac4c7858b6afd7afff28.png

Remember Delprato was supposed to miss the Final due to injury? He recovered 2 weeks earlier (not even orange injury icon and Fitness Test icon). He came on in the 2nd half to replace Obasi. Great recovery! When he made his penalty promise below, I had expected his determination to gone up as well but alas it hasn't!

Parma Fixtures:

Spoiler

1. Coppa Italia run

Spoiler

Been a crazy unexpected run first season back in Serie A!

It all started with Bonny's injury time winner in the first round. Tresoldi's free kick goal in the 2nd.

Leading 2-0 against Sassuolo only to be pegged back 2-2 before Bernabe's goal in extra time off the bench - only for Sassuolo to equalised in the 120th minute. Luckily Turk was the hero in the penalty shootout saving the final penalty.

2-0 down against Roma to come roaring back with a 5-2 win with Inglese hat-trick off the bench.

Man's 2 goals heroic off the bench in the Semi 2nd leg and Bernabe's sweet free kick.

Even the final was a memorably match despite not winning.

Proud Parma!

image.thumb.png.4c532ec884814b3d599ffae376ca090c.png

2. Overall Fixtures

Spoiler

Really expected Parma to battling for survival, so much so in January I didn't changd the Board Expectation for more budget despite being in mid-table at the half way point.

I counted 7 injury time goals - with 2 turning a draw into a win: 2 - 1 vs Inter (Benedyczak 90') and 3 - 2 vs Bologna (Tresoldi 93'). Mihaila 94th minute goal also turned a losing game to draw 1 - 1 against Juventus.

Parma only conceded 2 goals in the last minutes - 2 - 2 vs Lazio (Immobile penalty 93') and Sassuolo's 120th minute equaliser in the Coppa Italia.

I also counted 12 matches where we came back from a goal down or more to draw or win the game. With 3 of those matches coming back from 0 - 2 down. The same Sassuolo's match in the Coppa Italia above also where Parma let slipped a 2 - 0 lead to draw.

Final day drama?

Spoiler

Strangely, Parma vs Sassuolo was the only match not on Sunday for the final round, which Parma won 2 - 0.

Inter and Milan level on points at the top.

Parma in the Europa League spot currently in 5th, but Roma could still jumped ahead with a draw or win against Coppa Italia winner Napoli - who sits disappointingly in 8th after losing the title on final day last season.

Only Genoa and Empoli yet to decide their survival status.

image.thumb.png.cfffb3ebffd511a0d6ce5608c205d6a6.png

Serie A Table:

Spoiler

Alas! Parma dropped down to 6th for Europa Conference League instead after Roma drew 1 - 1 with Napoli. We lost both matches in Serie A to Roma this season 1 - 2 and 0 - 1.

The real drama is at the top, where Inter lost to Torino to a 90th minute penalty, whilst Milan did their job to beat Juventus away from home 1 - 2.

Despite Genoa losing, Empoli couldn't capitalise on it by losing as well.

Serie A Player Stats:

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.b059d268902948125ccc46074ac36bd7.png

Parma Historical Record:

Spoiler

1. In the Coppa Italia Semi-final 2nd leg against Fiorentina, Obasi became the youngest Parma player in history by 23 days! It wasn't planned either, just thought I would give him a chance since Delprato was recovering from a bruised knee and Coulibaly suspended.

image.thumb.png.abbb7359c28ccbed79ac4df63261e3bb.png

image.thumb.png.cf8bf7621dd848723749609ece02fc90.png

2. In the next match, Obasi became the Youngest player in Serie A's history! Again, wasn't planned. Delparto pulled his calf muscle and went off injured in the 7th minute which had put his participation in the Final a doubt :(

image.thumb.png.ef337318e3b4d31ec63a35093bb7ae88.png

image.thumb.png.fe39c7fd9efa717297c132a46f383243.png

This is strange..

Spoiler

In one month, Bamigboye already lost 1* PA. Must be due to his Unambitious personality. Brought him up to Senior squad so he can be part of a mentoring group with Perfectionist Kurtic. Good thing noticed this early.

image.thumb.png.d4c107dbd8a644b61854847be5f53896.png

Reflection's Corner:

Spoiler

Have to say, what a season first time back in Serie A! :D

Beyond what I had expected and anticipated for sure.

Coppa Italia run was a huge bonus financially as I calculated Parma received £4.061m just reaching the Final. Would have received £5.62m if we had won it.

So, the big question is Europe a good thing this early in our saves?

I had a similar save previously where Parma qualified for Europe so early that in the next season they languished mid-table and missed out on Europe the season after.

The target is to balance it out, with Serie A as priority.

Overall, been a fun season with lots of pieces settling in now. More to follow in next update!

I hope so too. Does newgens still grow in height in FM23? They used to be in the older FMs. Obasi might even be a good winger, but I rarely retrained players. Might be a good time to start :D

Intersting question) I don`t know for sure but guess they should. For me jumping reach and heading attributes are more important.

Only 5 players above 7+ ratings but only Man and Zanimacchia with more than 10 appearances. Obasi did well in his first 6 games to finish with 7 average rating :D

Surprises?

Spoiler

So, first we qualified for Europa Conference League, then next message Europa League. I was so confused. Then I saw the 3rd screenshot. Totally forgot about Europa League final match between Inter and Napoli. I didn't follow the European competitions as I had not expected to qualify for one this soon. Really wanted ECL as never played it before though.

And the last screenshot meant that there will be even more European places for England and Italy? There's 8 already this season :D

I would like to be "Roberto de Zerbi", so how would you set that up in game?

You need to remove him on the editor before starting new game and copy all his stats etc as your new manager

Thirteenth Update

Summer Plans 2 - June 2024

Club Improvements:

Spoiler

Things are looking up! Below are the finance on 1st of June, when I got the message about training facility being downgraded due to technologies, decided to request an upgrade from the board.

Both the training and youth facilites were at first rejected by the board, but after discussion they accepted and granted the request.

They followed it up with granting my requests to Youth Recruitments, Transfer Revenues %, junior coaching budget, number of coaches and scouts allowed. So things are going well with the Board for them to grant 7 requests in days :D

Contract Situations:

Spoiler

Buffon unfortunately refusing to discuss new contract - it totally slipped my mind to renew his contract in January! :(

Buffon is considering his option, whilst his staff attributes hasn't appeared like Kurtic, it does seem likely he will retired. As of 1st of June hasn't received a message though.

Was in two mind to extend Kurtic or let him retire as his Staff Attributes had appeared. Decided to renew with £5k p/w less in wage,so I still have someone for mentoring the midfielders.

In other news..

Spoiler

Below are the European Finals results (was curious after Parma qualified for Europa League instead):

ECL the biggest surprise. Havre is playing in the 2nd tier of French League!

image.png.ee4a7ad1fff3c112bae4220328ff7219.png

This Napoli win upgraded our ECL status to UEL. Though if Inter had won, Roma would have gotten the 5th UCL place and Parma still ended up with UEL. Sassuolo the beneficiary in both situations as they got ECL place.

image.png.50e07abc80f89b2d865a77b03428d075.png

Injury time penalty winner for Arsenal in UCL. Curious that all 3 were won by a single goal.

Parma have 2 players in the Euros 2024.

Plans for Summer Transfer Window & Current Squad Review:

Spoiler

Confirmed Tresoldi without much of a hassle, was happy to get his request from £30k+ per week to just £22k p/w. That's half my transfer budget gone.

image.thumb.png.a52900b3b98df418f146007f89f39ced.png

In terms of targets, previously I tried to strengthen the wide positions too much, but I'm actually happy with my options now with Man, Mihaila, Zanimacchia, Benedyczak, Bonny, and even Tresoldi. I might try to move on Mosquera so I can get a non-EU slot freed up next season. My bad, usually don't do this to a player. Signed, loaned out, and not even a chance to play :(

My biggest decision will be Pezzella at LB. For soon to be one of my highest earner, he didn't perform at all. Was so disappointed in him that I even start Zagaritis in the bigger games as he performed really well despite his attributes compared to Pezzela. I even started Valenti at LB towards the end of the season so I can play as much more of Balogh and Circati partnership in the middle.

So my options will be to sell Pezzella and make Valenti the first choice LB and get another backup CB or get a first choice or backup LB. Will see what the market has to offer.

In terms of actual target, I don't really have a specific name yet. Will depend on how much I can sell my unwanted players.

Speaking of, I will try to move on Dierckx, Heinaut, Mir, Charpentier for sure. I like the first 3 as they are young and can be developed given time but I just couldn't find any space for them. I really feel for Mir especially since when he started he outperformed everyone, way better than Kurtic. But potentially he just doesn't seem to have much room to get better.

Tutino already have a £700k transfer agreed from his loan spell and £11k p/w off the wage bill, so glad for that. Unfortunately Cobbaut's Foggia got relegated from Serie B, so his survival clause didn't kick in and I will lose some transfer fee (£180k) when his contract expire this summer.

Question mark will also be on Armini and Coulibaly. Whilst I really like Coulibaly, the emergence of Obasi means there's one too many RB with Delprato as first choice. Armini just doesn't seem to fit my team, he never performed despite giving him chances in different positions to find a good fit for him.

Will also loan out Paskotsi as in his 4 appearances, he had two 6.0 match rating and he averaged 6.4 overall. Will loan out either Marconi or Kowalski or both.

Development Watch:

Spoiler

At the start of my first post, I stated that I want to build this Parma side around 4 players - Corvi, Delprato, Balogh, and Circati. Here they are below at the end of the 2nd season:

Fourteenth Update

Gianlugi Buffon - June 2024

Buffon News:

Spoiler

3rd of June 2024, the dreaded announcement came in...

8th June 2024, the Legend is playing professional football no more :(

Had half of a hope that this time around he would stick until he is 50 :D

His staff attributes seems pretty good to me, except the low discipline - very unlike Buffon. Might make him Assistant Manager in the future.

There seems to be a bug as well, before he conformed his retirement, the contract I offered for u18 GK coach didn't go through, so had to offer him another contract again. Was worried he would refuse to come back to Parma.

Transfer News done deal so far..

Spoiler

The board wanted to increase Loan Manager wage budget, but instead negotiated another increase in transfer revenue % :D

image.thumb.png.ad62b455c21d32914edaaf846067be6a.png

Never seen this before after X amount, the revenue will drop back. Interesting.

Some done deals agreed so far. Wished the 50% had came in before Coulibaly and Hainaut's transfers.

On top of Tresoldi, had another transfer done in June. Had an eye on him since scouts recommended him at end of season 1. Hard working midfielder, I always like players with these kind of special description. For £900k too! His max range value was like £1.8m, so chuffed with this one.

SERIE C GIRONE A

Brescia_calcio_badge_svg.thumb.png.c5123233776064cf1e9e5f315717e0ef.png

BRESCIA CALCIO

Brescia football club were relegated to Serie C for the first time in 38 years on Thursday evening. In the second leg of the Serie B playout they drew 1-1 at home against Cosenza, after losing 1-o in the first leg in Calabria. Cosenza’s equalizing goal, which decided the match, was scored in the fourth minute of added time, therefore with the match now over. Shortly after, the Brescian supporters started throwing smoke bombs and other objects onto the pitch to stop the match, which actually happened. From there riots were born which continued for a long time, both inside and outside the Rigamonti stadium.

There have been clashes and charges between supporters and the police, attempted attacks on away Cosenza fans, who were only able to leave the stadium after one in the morning, and damage to clubs and vehicles parked nearby. A footballer’s car was set on fire and the Brescia newspaper writes that another player would be threatened with a knife. Nine people were injured and five others arrested.

Brescia had been divided between Serie A and Serie B for 38 years. In particular, between the 1990s and 2000s, it was one of the best-known so-called “provincial” teams in the Italian championship, best remembered for being Roberto Baggio’s last team, but also other big names such as Andrea Pirlo, Luca Toni, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Mazzone, the coach with whom he played the 2001 Intertoto Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Brescia had mostly spent the last decade in Serie B, albeit with very mixed results and a relegation avoided only thanks to a repechage. During this time the team has changed ownership several times. In 2014 the historic president Gino Corioni – who died in 2016 at the age of 78 – sold the company to the Profida group. In 2017 it was then sold again to the Sardinian entrepreneur Massimo Cellino, former president and owner of Cagliari and Leeds United, still in office.

With Cellino, Brescia returned to Serie A in 2019 but only stayed there for a year. In the last three seasons they have finished the Serie B championship in seventh, fifth and this year in sixteenth place in the standings. With this last placement he had avoided direct relegation, but not the playouts then lost between the round trip against Cosenza.

After the clashes on Thursday evening, Serie B president Mauro Balata wrote in a statement: «Our category has always stood out for the absence of aggression and discrimination. I feel defeated, I ask myself, and I think we all have to do it, as to why situations of such violence can occur”. The prefect of Brescia Maria Rosaria Laganà said that the identifications of those responsible for the unrest are underway, in which members of the southern curve of Milan, which has long been associated with the Brescia one, would also have participated.

Brescia have announced Daniele Gastaldello will leave his position as manager due to the clubs relegation.

Brescia annoince the appointment of Alessandro Di Gregorio as new head coach until 30/06/2024 the 35 year old will be on around £2.5k per week. As far as experience goes Di Gregorio played football at Regional level coming up through his beloved AS Roma's youth system before a serious knee injury cut his career short. During his time out of the game he has managed to attain his National  A coaching license and will be extremely keen to carry on his qualifications alongside his new role.

PROS
Very strong squad for the division.
No players injured or loaned out.
Depth in every position.
Money to spend.
Board only want playoffs.
No debt.

CONS
Massive wage budget for division.
All decent players wont renew contracts.
Players looking to leave worth less due to league.
No decent youth to cover the players leaving.

The aim for the first season is simple return to Serie B as soon as possible and hopefully be in a position at the second half of the season to convince some of the players to stay at the club. I also want to bring an Italian core into the club going forward and will look to bring in Italian players over other nations when possible.

I’m really struggling to get in to a save, specifically struggling to decide on a team + tactic. I don’t want something super challenging, just a fun youth focused game.

im thinking Napoli, or Milan, maybe even Roma? Could anyone suggest a tactic for one of those teams?

No suggestions on tactics but you could always look at trying to replicate Pep's style at Man City or his classic Tika Taka style he had at Barca.

Roma, Torino, Lazio, Sassulo, Empoli, Bologna would probably be good choices to do a youth only save.

Either that or look at a team in Seria B so it gives you more time to get your tactic right and bring through some of the youngsters. Palermo would be a great team to do a youth only save with I think.

Not necessarily going for youth only, but defo youth focused. I don’t get to play that much so I prefer to go with nearly-top teams so I don’t have to build as much. For example, FM21 my favourite save was Roma.

not even necessarily doing Italy, but I just can’t decide who to manage!

Sassulo, Atlanta or Fiorentina would be perfect choices for what you want in Italy.

Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Union Berlin would be good choices for German teams

Marseille, Strasborg, Rennes would be good choices for French teams.

I've picked both Internationale and Parma.. But can't really get into it neither of those saves. So already considering a new save starting unemployed.

Fair enough.

For me, I've been planning on a Benfica save for a few months but have only just got around to it. My number 1 target was Vitor Roque but now he's off to Barca irl, I feel like I can't go for him. I actually have OCD and I feel like everything needs to be up to date, when most people probably don't care.

I guess if I start in season 22/23 as normal, it creates an alternate reality, where obviously none of this has happened yet. I also want to keep Alex Grimaldo, Diego Moreira and Cher Ndour, who all have left irl on free transfers to other clubs.

I think I'll just go for it, even though it will feel weird to me at first. Afterall it's still FM23, not 24.

I'm actually having the same problem as you are regarding up to date transfers. I was about to start my Venezia save but just thought I would check everything was up to date first. Took me down a rabbit hole reading about how Reggina might be getting kicked out of Serie B for the upcoming year, and have a court case/appeal this week so I decided to wait until after that.

Then started to read about my transfer targets already signing to new teams, Lucca and Volpato to name just a couple.

No doubt Papetti will move from Brescia before the next transfer update that I am planning on using!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who bothers about this stuff 😅

When I do start with Benfica I'll be starting without any unofficial updates, in season 22/23. @BadAss88 makes a good point tbf.

One of the main reasons I have a problem with not updating things is that very early into my new save I can almost guarantee that somebody will score against me, playing for their previous team, and all I will want to do is quit that save and start a new one!!

Venezia FC | Season 1 | Serie B | 2022/23

Part 1 : January Transfer Window

I’ve finally started my long term save, I couldn’t wait any longer and started it yesterday. Quickly a little bit of housekeeping. As I started this yesterday I had to guess a little bit about what the league structure would be for this coming season.

If you aren’t aware Reggina and Lecco were denied entry into Serie B this coming season. Reggina for financial reasons & Lecco for stadium reasons. Pordenone & Siena stated that they wouldn’t be able to join Serie C and would start again as an amateur team. To cut a long story short, Brescia & Lecco are in Serie B, Pordenone,Reggina & Siena are now Amateur clubs in Serie D.  Mantova, Sangiuliano City & Alcione Milano replace them in Serie C. I’ve also added my personal project team and new affiliate team Jesolo into Serie D.

 * * *

I had a rough idea about how we were going to get promoted this season and it’s working very well. We are going to rely on loans with low future fees and hope that by next season we will be promoted and able to buy them. We’ve also been helped by having all of the loans of players in Italy returned to their main teams so we have Michael Cuisance & Domen Crnigoj back at the club.

Leaving the team it’s been all about getting rid of the high earners. Club captain Marco Modolo (£9k p/w), Veteran goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa (£7,250 p/w), Winger Dennis Johnsen (£8,250 p/w), Left Back Ridgeciano Haps (£8,250 p/w) bought us in about £1.5m but importantly it was the saving of £32,750 p/w which made a massive difference. We have just agreed a deal to sell Veteran Midfielder Mato Jajalo for £43.5k but most importantly were getting his £21,500 p/w wage of our books.

Ignore what the screen shot says this season we have sold players for £1.9m. The £3.5m spent is also misleading. £1.3m of that is on Papetti which we will pay over one 12 month instalment.

Yeah I used this transfer update, which includes deals until the 1st of July. I've then been adding a few updated things mainly from Italy like Lucca to Udinese, Frattesi to Inter and Tonali to Newcastle.

Also made this addition on deadline day...

Venezia FC | Season 1 | Serie B | 2022/23

Part 2 : End of Season

The season is done and after our brilliant first half of the season, I knew that the second half was going to be easy, and it was. The major blemish was that we lost our undefeated record with a 1-0 loss to Suditrol. Apart from that we were in complete control of the league and end the season frustraitingly on 99 points! When looking at the stats from this season we were completely dominant. We conceded the least (20) and allowed the least amounts of shots (232). Going forward we scored 76 which was also the most in the league, but that only really happened over the last half of the season once the players were used to our system (Strikerless) and had started to learn some vital PPM's.

I showed that I had signed Dimitri Payet on loan. Technically brilliant but physically poor. I knew what I was getting when I signed him on loan, but a few injuries limited him to only 5 appearances although he did have a couple of assists. The best bit of buisness we did in January was without a doubt Filip Ronningen Jorgensen from Odd for £2.5m. I have never had him before but he looked better than what we already had and he also has the attributes to potentially play right back in the future so will also offer us great versatility going forward. In the 15 games he played he scored 4 and assisted 8. Really looking forward to him next season in Serie A.

Leaving the team during January was Michael Cuisance. He was playing well for us, but then he started to become a diva. He wanted a new contract despite already being the highest earner on £33k p/w which was obviously not going to happen. I was hoping that we could keep hold of him until the end of the season and then sell him once we were officially a Serie A team, but he also put pay to that when he told us he would be considering his options at the end of his contract. I had enough and tried to sell him throughout January. On deadline we tried offering him out on loan, and we found a great deal. He joined Osasuna who would pay all of his wages, £1.6m in 2 monthly installments and then a mandatory price of £1.4m.

Now we start to look at improving our team for Serie A. 2 key players (Alvaro Fernandez & Valentin Carboni) have extended their loans for another season, and I am desperately hoping that Filippo Mane will extend his loan. We have tried to buy him for the agreed fee of £2.6m but he just isn't interested. Mane is a key player and not just on the field. The biggest problem for Venezia is the lack of good players who are home grown. In fact the only player that is home grown is new Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Due to the fact that we have got Mane & Carboni in early they can both become club home grown players if they stay for another 2 seasons. Work is needed in this area for us.

Venezia FC | Season 2 | Serie B | 2023/24

Part 3 : 1st Half of Serie A Season

After winning Serie B so comfortably I had changed my mind about what was achievable this coming season. I initially thought that mid table was the target but towards the end of the season when everything was ticking together I was sure that qualifying for Europe was the real target. With that in mind I knew that we were going to have to make some pretty big/costly signings this off season which would initially set us back but would then mean the next couple of seasons we would only need to bring in top quality upgrades instead of needing to bring in 5-6 good enough players to qualify for Europe. To balance the books from this season we will hopefully have European competition money, and we will also inevitably have to sell a few players until our club reputation is higher.

With this in mind I set out some targets that I had initially dismissed because of their transfer value. My number 1 target was Norwich defender Andrew Omobamidele. He may only be 21 but is immediatley good enough to be our starting CB. I actually see him as a potential captain of this team. His added bonus is that he is Irish which helps with the Foreign player rules. Alongside him would be fellow new signing Jordan Torunarigha. A tall, athletic left footed center back who will certainly be starting for the next few years, although we might have already found his replacement in loanee Billy Koumetio who we can sign permanently for £5.75m. We bought left back Riccardo Calafiori back to Italy and then on deadline day we managed to somehow bring in Spanish wonderkid Ivan Fresneda for £9.5m. I've never managed him before so I am very interested to see how he turns out and just how long we can hold onto him.

Our next big signing was Moise Kean on loan for the year. We were looking a little short up front and I saw the oppertunity to try out Kean I jumped at the chance. He is the highest earner in the team at £35k p/w but if he proves that he's worth that and more then we can potentially bring him in for £13.75m although that doesn't seem all that likely! My newest addition might be the one that joins full time. Brenner joins on loan for the 2nd half of the season and I'm hoping to see enough promise that once he has fully learned our system he can become the clinical finisher that we are in desperate need for. He can be bought for the small price of £1.9m.

Results wise we've been really good with a couple of depressing bumps along the way. We started out really strong winning 3 of our first 4 before losing 3-2 to Lazio despite being 2-0 up at half time and destroying them all game. Another good month followed with an expected loss away to Milan, but a great bounce back win against Napoli. November was terrible and really made me want to throw the pc out of the window. Losing 3-2 again to Bologna. We were losing 1-0 at half time, we changed tactics and went attacking. We were then 2-1 up 10 minutes later only to concede straight from kick off. Bologna were then given a penalty in the 92nd minute which they scored. We then missed our own penalty one minute later. The next game against Rome was almost the same story, lost 3-2 thanks to a last minute penalty. A draw would have been a fair result here, but to lose was a proper kick in the guts.

Thankfully December was a better month winning 3 out of 4 in the league including a 4-1 demolition of Juventus thanks to their own player Moise Kean scoring a double! We played a fully rotated team in the 2nd round of the cup and lost in extra time despite having a man sent off after just 7 minutes. We then lost 1-0 to Inter Milan in our last game of the year. We can have a massive amount of pride in how we've played so far. We're sitting in 6th place 4 points off the Champions League places and can really start to make a challenge for that in the remaining months. The real pleasing thing is that we have conceded the 4th lowest amount of goals (14) which shows that the investment this summer in our defense has been money well spent so far......

So I couldn't really get into my Roma save, and I decided to load up an earlier version of the save and stay at Man Utd but I then couldn't get back into that either. So I had a small break from fm for a few weeks and decided to come back with a new save.

maxresdefault.jpg.d1af2d560211bea0f7e567500e8df2a0.jpg

I did a save with Fiorentina on fm22 and really enjoyed it, I have got abit of a soft spot for them now, so my plan is to see if I can do better than my fm22 save.

In fm22 I did 7 seasons with Fiorentina before leaving, and won 3 Serie A titles, 2 Coppa Italia and 1 Europa league. It's going to be a challenge to beat that as Fiorentina don't have a lot of money and for me their squad isn't as good as on fm22.

Losing Vlahovic, not only means we don't have a world class striker to start with but also means we can't benefit from selling him for big money. They have also sold 2 of my favourite players from my fm22 save in Pulgar and Dragowski.

I started with the 1st transfer window disabled, but they are already maxed out on the wages, so I will need to sort that out by selling a couple in January.

I did however sort the staff out, adding some much needed quality in staff.

fiostaff.png.e5e950d330e3d5893d072485a60ea8b6.png

We have also had a pretty good start scoring a fair few goals.

fiostart.png.a36bda8ce97b0941f6944c4b0e6ebcb8.png

We were then immediately drawn in the toughest group we could possibly get in the europa conference league, with West Ham and FC Twente in our group.

I'm not sure how to take the conference league, on 1 hand its a great opportunity at an early 1st trophy, but on the other hand, it would be great to use my lesser players to keep their value up for when I try to sell them, so I can make as much money as possible.

My best 11 going into the season is as below.

fios1best11.png.e0a91bb6bc3b5fa2fc0a56aba52c2a4d.png

The GK and ST are the main positions that need replacing. Both Gk's are in their mid 30's and aren't as good as Dragowski.

Striker wise I don't see Jovic or Cabral being good enough replacements for Vlahovic either, so I do plan to sell both of them and get 2 new strikers in by start of season 2.

I'm really looking forward to this save and diving further into it. Can we go 1 further than Fiorentina did in real life by winning one of the cups in our 1st season.

A little update on the Fiorentina save.

So before the world cup break we were sitting in 4th and playing well.

Then we came back after the world cup.

fiojanrun.png.cd15dfd762d130bdd36ebd801e84239b.png

We are now down in 11th, we finally managed to get a win against 19th place Empoli thanks to a penalty. Not sure what's happened to this team. Cabral and Jovic have been utterly useless to the point I had to buy a striker in January, we ended up signing Marcos Leonardo from Santos, 1st time using him so lets hope he can help turn us around.

That's a tough run of form there. I think he will turn things around for you though, as he has a great reputation in this years game. He seems to be a prolific goalscorer from what I've read.

Yeah the 5-1 loss to Verona hurt a lot, should be beating these teams.

I usually avoid signing all the popular youngsters but I needed a striker and he was fairly cheap, he’s had a good start.

Venezia FC | Season 2 | Serie B | 2023/24

Part 4 : End of Serie A Season

I've just realised that I forgot to post the end of season 2 update. I'm quite far ahead in season 3 so this wont be a massively long update.

At the end of the season we completed my objective which was to finish in the Champions League places. With about 5 games to go we were within touching distance of 1st place but we faltered, while everyone else seemed to keep winning. Overall to finish our first season back in Serie A in the top 4 is a fantastic effort and gives us a lot to look forward to next season.

In January we didn't make too many signings. I've already talked about Brenner joining us (didn't do a lot, wont be joining full time) but the main signing was new goalkeeper Elia Caprile. I was desperate to bring in home grown keeper Guglielmo Vicario but his wages at Tottenham (£80k p/w) just made the deal a non starter. He ended up going to Sheffield United on £65k p/w and has been relegated with a 25% wage drop incoming. I will have a look once that wage drop kicks in and see if there is any possible chance that we can bring him into the club, especially with us now being in the Champions League and currently having 0 club home grown players.

The big sale in January was midfielder Gianluca Busio. It's a player that I was kind of hoping to build around, but at the start of January I was thinking about making a tactical change for this coming year and realised that Busio probably wasn't good enough to be a starter. The fact that we got Dortmund to give us £15m and 50% of next sale is a fantatstic deal for us, and one that I'm hoping will also pay off in the long run. To replace him we bought in Morten Thorsby, who at 28 is right in his prime and offers us a massive amount physically and mentally.

I forgot about our Youth Intake during the 1st season. It wasn't especially brilliant but compared to this seasons it would be considered world class. Hopefully we can finish off our Junior Coaching & Youth recruitment this season and then really start to produce some key players for us.

At the end of the season the chairman also announced that they are looking for a new site for a new 20,000 seater stadium. While it's a shame to be leaving such a historic stadium, it really holds us back financially. It's just a shame that the board are only planning on a 20,000 seater stadium when we should really be planning at least a 30,000 seater stadium. I just hope that the new stadium will have a lot of expansion capability.

So after our poor run of form in January, we scrapped that win over Empoli, after that we had a good 2nd half of the season.

fios1.thumb.png.39f9dd1e63d129a09033cbf014659820.png

I am a little disappointed not to get 6th, but having another crack at the conference league isn't a bad thing as I think we can win it.

Overall we just didn't score enough, and we weren't good enough defensively. To see Juventus and Lazio struggling is mad and makes it quite interesting.

On the conference league, we lost out in the semi final to Nice, and West Ham beat them in the final.

conferenceruns1.png.ccb87b8be4f72ad041c20c85309d98d7.png

So I reckon a good summer and we will be favourites to win it next season, and will be a trophy I definitely prioritise next season.

In the Italian cup we lost to Juventus in the quarter finals.

fiobestplayerss1.thumb.png.abb65123b96c53cb59bdb43e69e6c830.png

These were my best players for the season. Marcos Leanardo came in and was excellent, he scored more goals in half a season than Jovic and Cabral combined, and also ended as our top scorer. Milenkovic and Castrovilli both want to leave to bigger clubs but am hoping I can keep hold of them.

I had also sold Kouame and Terzic and Saponara in the January.

Now to start the rebuild and this could be a big summer. Jovic and Cabral will be leaving, I will also be looking to sell Duncan and a few other to bring some funds in.

I will be looking to sign a striker to back Leanardo, and a new GK. I also have deals in place for Fillipo Mane from Dortmund for 1.9 mil, then some free transfers in Henrique Pereira from Benfica and Giovanni Fabbian from Inter.

On the conference league, we lost out in the semi final to Nice, and West Ham beat them in the final.

So I reckon a good summer and we will be favourites to win it next season, and will be a trophy I definitely prioritise next season.

In the Italian cup we lost to Juventus in the quarter finals.

Nice to see Leonardo performing for you, he's my striker target for Benfica. He seems to do well for everyone, only heard good things about him.

After a decent 1st season, we look to build on this and improve the team, so here are the transfers for season 2.

s2transfers.thumb.png.fa5616b616050a6c985d0c999583ce98.png

On the outs - 2 transfers that show up on the 1st season transfers were Cabral and Martínez Quarta for a combined 11.25 mil. Jovic left for a good fee, I was happy to get 13 mil for him. The rest were players back off loan that were no where near good enough.

On the ins - Beto was our biggest signing, a striker I have really liked for a couple of versions of fm now. I used him on fm22 but hadn't used him on fm23 so far until now. Schuurs and Mane come in to help improve the defence.

The GK position was tricky, I wanted Livakovic but he chose Leicester over us. I then looked at Lafont, but then noticed Lille somehow got relegated, which was a huge shock. So Chevalier comes in initially as a back up to Terracciano but I think he will very quickly takeover. Fabbian and Pereira 2 good free transfers, that are young and if don't work out I can make some good money out of, with Pereira going out on loan. Mainoo comes in for extra depth but will play alot of games, as he is pretty good having used him on a Man utd save.

On top of this I managed to get Castrovilli to sign a new deal, and Milenkovic is now happy to stay.

So with the transfers we changed up the tactic and go with this for season 2.

s2tactic.png.ef65adcbb993edf5041e82b915261b7e.png

And we have made a great start to the season, picking up some massive results.

s2start.png.93f1b8d3c618cbabcd09971eeab71644.png

Beto had made a slow start but has now got 11 goals in 10 games.

I have already starting planning for the next season as well, with Max Aarons and Tete both out of contract at the end of the season, and I have been putting the work in to get them. Obviously the non EU rules may mean I can only sign one, but for now I am putting the work in both.

I've simmed the game for 1 season to take on any struggling clubs (unexpected relegations, stuff like that). And I see that Inter Milan only managed to qualify for the Europa League, so I took the reigns.

My plan is to clear out the older foreign players to make way for a new era of quality Italian youth. I have a £100m transfer budget. This is interestingly also a board request, which is not the reason why Internazionale was originally formed (as the name implies it was to sign international players), but ok.

Skriniar left on a free, I wasn't happy about losing him and neither were the fans who seemed to blame me, but it will let me take a look a Bamba, Scalvini or Papetti as Bastoni's long term-partner at the back.

Lukaku went back to Chelsea, would've been nice to extend his loan to bridge the gap while I unearth the next Cristian Vieri, but he wasn't interested (despite loving his time with us).

I have some Champions League clubs sniffing around Martinez, and if they bid somewhere in the region of £90m I'll take it and bring in Scamacca to spearhead my attack, as Raspadori isn't interested.

So onto transfers, and the previous manager arranged for both Gosens and Kristjan Asllani to come to the club and I can already see that Asllani will be a permanent fixture in my midfield, he's absolute quality. Gosens for £23m was a waste as far as I'm concerned, but we'll see how he does over the course of a season sharing the role of WB with Dimarco.

I've brought in:

Miretti for £18m from Juve, which seems a little low given his potential.

Belotti for free from Roma, a solid squad player.

Valeri for free from Cremonese, the board loved this transfer.

Parfundi for £5.75m from Udinese and this kid looks like the next Baggio.

Terracciano for £5m from Verona as a long term option at right-back.

Samardzic for £12m as an AMC, I didn't see any similarly quality young creative Italians, so he'll be one of my #10s alongside Hakancoglu.

The previous manager shipped out:

Pinamonti for £17m, which is a shame as I'd have liked to have kept him.

And I've begun clearing out the deadwood with Cordaz, Lazaro & Agoume leaving the club and Mkhtaryan going on loan to Leeds who will pay 80% of his rather large wages, and then he'll leave on a free.

My aim is to qualify for the Champions League with a team predominantly made up of U21 players, and build from there.

My main tactic is a 4-2-1-2-1 with wingbacks providing the width.

Been a little while since last update. I will do a full season 2 and 3 update in the next day or 2, but here is how the table looks with 3 games to go in season 3.

s3tablesofar.thumb.png.eddd36e867204af365ee80c66300f171.png

Tightest battle I've had where all of the top 8 have a chance to get into the top 4, while the top 7 still all have a chance of the title mathematically.

This will be a write up for season 2 and 3, so I will try not to make it too long.

So 4/5 posts up is how season 2 started, so now finally this is how season 2 went.

Firstly the league, it had all started well and we ended up doing pretty well.

s2league.thumb.png.8a6d4842d352e7ce6ce3d54899fb38c2.png

A good 5th place and Italy got the extra champs league places so we are going into the champs league in season 3,

The conference league was our chance of winning our 1st trophy, we dominated the competition and went 1 step further than season 1, reaching the final.

s2conferencerun.png.65f6587e18af36d961231678c5ca164d.png

However we lost the final :(. I watch on key highlights and the only highlight in the game was the goal. Incredibly disappointed not to win this. A perfect opportunity to win our 1st trophy and we bottled it.

Player stats for season 2.

s2playerstats.thumb.png.2a345ff1addadd2c99b21e8fd508cc2f.png

Beto and Leonardo the best players and formed a great relationship up top. Mainoo was excellent in his loan spell and had developed better already than in my Man Utd save, and overall the squad as a whole had good seasons.

So now onto season 3 and the transfers.

s3transfers.thumb.png.41cc29b16467e7441fb69652e42b5a56.png

Beto was only with us for 1 season, Tottenham came calling and I couldn't persuade him to stay, we made 10 mil profit on him in 1 season which was nice, and he will easily achieve the add ons.

Max Aarons is a transfer I'm very happy with, as I managed to scout him every game so he never signed a new deal. Lucca came in to replace Beto, and I will go back to a 1 striker formation. Theate comes in to strengthen that defence further, and Rieder and Bardghji are 2 young players that could develop into world beaters. Overall very happy with our business to break even on the summer window.

Now the league was very tight as per the post above, so how did the season finish.

s3table.thumb.png.cb493dfa0415fede55d4acd9d68fbd5b.png

Napoli who were 9th at one stage, had an excellent run at the back end of the season and won back the title. 6 points separating the top 6.

Defensively we are pretty good, but we did struggle abit more for goals this season after losing Beto, so its 5th place again for us, but this time Italy didn't get the extra champs league place. Though I am disappointed to finish 5th again, there are some positives, we were only 6 points off the title and being in the europa league I think is better for us as we have a better chance of winning it. We also have a young team which is developing nicely and improving all the time.

We had a pretty nice run in the champs league, finishing 8th in the group stage, but then the quality showed as we lost to Liverpool.

s3champsleague.png.6aa8f82e352fd940a822d139007b6da6.png

We have been very poor in the Coppa Italia in all 3 seasons.

The player stats for season 3.

s3playerstats.thumb.png.323a40d763ce5c31a997606dcc36401f.png

Overall we had less players with average ratings above 7 and I felt the squad as a whole didn't perform as well as the previous season, yet I feel the squad is in a better place in terms of quality. Leonardo with another very good season. Bardghji and Aarons with great debut seasons for us, Biraghi was close to leaving but am very happy to get him to sign a new contract as he's just brilliant.

So now onwards to season 4.

We are still trophyless which has been frustrating especially after the europa conference loss in season 2. So that needs to end in season 4 and I think being in the Europa league instead of the champs league definitely does help. As I said we have a young team that keeps improving, so if we can keep our main players and add 1 or 2 more of good quality then I will feel very confident of winning a trophy in season 4.
