@DodgeeD: Not sure if this could be called 'action'.

2010: October and November

October saw most teams play a game in their 2012 Cup of African Nation qualifying campaign, and November saw international friendlies.

The appointment of Chip Butty at Guinea might be tipped as an insightful move, as his team won 7-0 over Lesotho this month. Grenoble Foot 38 midfielder Kévin Constant got a hattrick. Mikael Schøler’s Mali also won 7-0, beating the Seychelles, while Quandiose Yancy’s Eritrea suffered a 0-6 defeat in their trip to Burkina Faso.

There were, of course, those big wins, but some of the narrower wins made for better football. Craig Hopper’s DR Congo prevailed 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at Dami’s Burundi, and Jose Rodriguez’s Uganda beat Jack Browne’s Rwanda 2-1. Jeremy English’s Sudan only just beat Guinea-Bissau 1-0, and Matt Lepino’s South Africa won 2-1 in Equatorial Guinea. There were also draws, which were generally less exciting: Mauritania and Congo reached a 0-0 stalemate, Algeria and Sierra Leone drew 1-1, and Ryan Andrews’s Swaziland grabbed a 3-3 draw at home to Libya.

Juan King ’s Angola lead Group A, after beating Joaquim Ntadi’s Madagascar 4-1 this month. Group B is led by Didier Dardon’s Morocco, who beat Zambia 3-0. Ricky Nakano’s Senegal beat Namibia 4-0, and top Group C, while Mentho Latum’s Tunisia lead Group D after victory in Cape Verde. Group E is led by Cameroon, who won 5-1 in the Comoros this month, while Tyler Burrows’s Egypt top Group F, after a 3-1 win at Liberia. Malawi lead Group G; they beat Hryhorii Zahorchak’s Chad 4-2 in N’Djamena this month, and Group H is led by Sierra Leone, with Ben Cee’s Niger bottom. Albert Holstein’s Côte d’Ivoire, after winning 5-0 at Alex Almond’s Mauritius, lead Group I, and Mali top Group J. Dees Blake’s Togo beat Tom Smith’s Botswana 5-1 this month, and lead Group K, while Group L is led by Burkina Faso and Group M by Sir Ronald Vaughan’s Benin.

Tunisia and Egypt were the two nations to play friendlies in November. Mentho Latum’s team met Japan in Tunis, and, despite going 0-1 down within nine minutes, won 2-1 with a goal three minutes from time. Tyler Burrows’s Egypt travelled to Slovenia, and drew 1-1.

Sir Ronald Vaughan ’s Benin were the biggest African movers upwards in November, climbing five places to 81st. Kenya, Sierra Leone and Togo climbed four places. Other than Ghana, Craig Hopper’s DR Congo fell the most, four places to 50th, despite beating Burundi. Albert Holstein’s Côte d’Ivoire are still highest-ranked, and they climbed a place to 10th, while Des Tiny’s Nigeria have overtaken Senegal in second place, despite Senegal’s 4-0 win over Namibia.

Just to let you know how qualification works – there are thirteen qualifying groups, and the winner of each qualifies for the Cup of African Nations. The best second-placed finisher also qualifies, and they all join Gabon and Nigeria. As for Afrovision qualification, Nigeria will automatically reach the Final, while all other nations will play in three Semi-Finals of 14.

Do they know it's Christmas time?

2011: February and March

The Cup of African Nations qualifying reached its halfway point in March, while some of our nations played friendlies in February.

Tyler Burrows ’s Egypt hosted the inaugural Afrovision Managerial Contest winners, Sir Ronald Vaughan’s Benin, in their February friendly, and the Egyptians won the match 2-1. Mentho Latum’s Tunisia travelled to Iceland, and lost 0-1.

The biggest win in this month’s Cup of African Nations qualifying was again 7-0, and again, Super Lampard’s Seychelles were on the wrong end of it. Their trip to Zimbabwe saw them 0-1 down within four minutes, and 0-4 down at half time. The Seychelles currently sit bottom of Group J, with Mikael Schøler’s Mali top after having beaten Kenya 3-1.

Albert Holstein ’s Côte d’Ivoire also got a big win, 5-0 at Ethiopia, while Didier Dardon’s Morocco won 4-0 at Somalia. Matt Lepino’s South Africa beat Chad 5-1. 3-0 wins, meanwhile, came for Zambia, Libya and Cameroon, over Thelonius Davis’s Tanzania, Namibia and Jack Browne’s Rwanda respectively. Egypt beat Jeremy English’s Sudan 2-0, and that scoreline was matched in games between (winner first) Tunisia and Lesotho, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone and Ben Cee’s Niger, Mozambique and Mauritius, and Congo and Benin. Jose Rodriguez’s Uganda beat Comoros 1-0, and Chip Butty’s Guinea matched that result against Karl Unpingco’s Cape Verde.

There was also a round of friendly games in March. With the help of a Samuel Eto’o penalty, Liam Ferguson’s Cameroon won 1-0 in Argentina, while Tyler Burrows’s Egypt also played in South America, but lost 0-3 to Brazil. Mentho Latum’s Tunisia won 3-0 in Cyprus.

Other than Burkina Faso, Jeremy English’s Sudan are the biggest climbers, ascending eight places to 78th, but they will fall after their loss to Egypt. Dami’s Burundi also moved up eight, but lost 2-3 in Madagascar, and Juan King’s Angola climbed seven, yet lost 1-3 to Craig Hopper’s DR Congo. Ricky Nakano’s Senegal fell one place to 13th, but are looking to recover that after a 3-1 win over Swaziland. They were the only African nation to fall, but they are second, behind Albert Holstein’s Côte d’Ivoire.

2011: June and July

The managers of the African nations have completed another year in charge of their countries. In June, there was a fourth matchday of Cup of African Nations qualifying, as well as one friendly match, which saw Tyler Burrows’s Egypt win 1-0 in Ecuador.

Egypt are actually one of two sides to have already qualified from their group. A Mohamed Zidan brace helped Burrows’s side to beat Liberia 2-0 this month, while Jeremy English’s Sudan lost 0-2 at Guinea-Bissau. Liberia, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau will compete to be the best second-placed finisher, but I don’t think that’s likely to happen. The other qualified side is Dees Blake’s Togo, after they beat Whoopy Dee’e’s Djibouti 6-0.

Another 6-0 win came for Karl Unpingco’s Cape Verde, who wrought havoc in their home match against Joe Tompkins’s Lesotho. The other match in their group saw Mentho Latum’s Tunisia draw 1-1 at Chip Butty’s Guinea. Tunisia lead the group with ten points.

Both parts of the Congo did well in their June matches: Craig Hopper’s DR Congo beat Dami’s Burundi 4-1, and now have a one-point lead over Juan King’s Angola at the top of the group, after Angola won 3-1 in Madagascar. David Dodgson’s Congo beat Mauritania 4-0 and top their three-team group. Didier Dardon’s Morocco also won 4-0, beating Tanzania, while their groupmates Christina Modoglou’s Zambia won 3-1 at Somalia.

There were 2-0 victories in June for Ricky Nakano’s Senegal, who beat Libya; Matt Lepino’s South Africa, who beat The Green Beret’s Equatorial Guinea; Ghana, who beat Cardio Hernandes’s Sierra Leone; and Côte d’Ivoire, who won in Mozambique. Mikael Schøler’s Mali beat Zimbabwe 4-2, and top their group. Super Lampard’s Seychelles are still bottom of that group, after a 0-4 loss in Kenya.

Guinea-Bissau climbed a whopping 74 places, but of the Afrovision competitors, Alex Almond’s Mauritius were the biggest movers, ascending 24 places to 167th after a 2-2 draw at home to Ethiopia. Weeman Fernandez’s Namibia climbed 14 places to 121st after their 1-0 win in Swaziland, while Rwanda moved up 12 places and Algeria 11. South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire both fell 14 places, so Mikael Schøler’s Mali, who fell five places themselves, are the top African team.

Welcome to Nigeria…

Henry Adeyemi: Good evening Africa! Welcome to Lagos!

Henry Adeyemi: Fourteen nations! Only five will leave with places in the next round!

Henry Adeyemi: I’m your host, Henry Adeyemi, and I’d like to offer a warm welcome to our fourteen nations, and to all our viewers via BATRACER! You should know how things work by now: these nations have given each other one to seven points, plus eight, ten and twelve points, based on their football teams’ performances.

Henry Adeyemi: Unfortunately, we’ve had problems in some of our countries, and they didn’t submit their votes. Angola, Benin, Liberia, Namibia, Sudan and Swaziland have each been deducted twelve points for this. Madagascar have been docked twenty-four points as they didn’t vote in last year’s Final either. Let’s look at the initial table.

Henry Adeyemi: Yes, it is a beautiful night.

5: Algeria

4: Namibia

3: Sierra Leone

2: Egypt

1: Benin

Bob Dylan: The Times They Are a-Changin’, Changing of the Guards:

Bob Dylan: Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here with You.

Henry Adeyemi: Oh. When will you be leaving?

Bob Dylan: When the Night Comes Falling from the Sky.

Henry Adeyemi: Oh. Well, I guess we should carry on. Joaquim Ntadi’s Madagascar pick up maximum points from Gambia! How does that leave the teams?

Henry Adeyemi: Juan King’s Angola have picked up the most points from the first two sets of votes, but they are seventh. Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia lead the way. Next, it’s over to Cairo and then to Djibouti!

I can't remember who I gave what points to but I hope I didn't give any to Mali. Thank you Gambia though and I hope many more votes go Djibouti's way.

What did I do to deserve that? :(

I can't believe that Mali, which had such a good run, didn't get any points from Gambia.. :(

Semi-Final 2

It’s time to start the voting for the second Semi-Final. Voting is as usual: look at the results of the other teams in this Semi-Final, and give teams 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points depending on how well you think they did, and also, if you wish, influenced by their geographic location and other factors. PM me your votes, including a celebrity spokesperson if you want one.

The fourteen nations listed here are voting for each other. Lower Leagues Rule will also be voting for these nations, as decided by a random draw, although Nigeria cannot receive any points.
