Gilbster Posted November 22, 2007 Share Posted November 22, 2007 Hemel Hempstead - Prelim Thoughts After 2 holiday games to try and get some low rep teams through, I finally hit Hemel Hempstead which has appealed due to it being a place I've been (once) and is fairly local to me. Gilbster Hemel Hempstead Profile This though could be my shortest attempt ever, as I have a chairman that is looking to leave the club. I have a 2 year contract for survival in the BSS, and a total of 6, 16 year old players. Apparently Hemel is the parent of Wingate & Finchley, so I am hoping I can persuade the board to let me have a parent of our own. Well the job ads have been placed, now to see how much of a team I can build before the season starts. (As a side note I can upload a save with Hemel later tonight, still with the holiday guy.) Have offered trials to any non UK player showing up in my player search screen that the ass man thinks may be interested. And just been told the results of my request of a parent club, and my current chairman must be related to my old Stamford chairman (sees no point in creating links). This chairman is on his way out though, so how long I last (apparently just a board takeover from within). This will be interesting. Just hope some of my trialees are good. I am being completely thrashed in the friendlies I have had so far and am still no closer to having a probably any even halfway decent enough players. League Setanta FA Trophy My squad is pretty young with my oldest player around 23 so hoping that they can improve a little and make the step up to League 2. Once again my star man was Jonathan Pringle, for the 3rd season in a row. Table Team I made it to the first round of FA CUP also! witch made me about 100k, unfortunaly i was pitched away against hartlepool Had 3 loaness, who i didnt think would make such an impact but they did Forshaw Was very inconsitent but seemed to score a whole lot Some of my better signings: Thorborg after a trial i thought i would give him a try, and he surely delivered some good efforts! Charlesworth Been released by bolton at the start of the season and i picked him up. he played brilliant when he wasnt injured! Nelson Another defensiv youngster released by colchester! he played really good as well! Following an unspectacular (to say the least) pre-season, Whitby entered their first league game unsure of their ideal formation... Hyde (a) (4-4-2): An unlucky 0-1 defeat, courtesy of a Christopher Fisher own goal. Heroic goalkeeping from Hyde's John Lamb saw his sheet stay sparklingly clean after 12 shots on target failed to get past him. Hinckley (h) (4-4-2): A dour 0-0 draw gives Whitby their first point of the season. Leigh (a) (4-1-2-2-1): Seemingly heading for defeat at 2-0 down, the manager pulls off a tactical masterstroke, switching to a 4-2-2-2 formation with 10 minutes to go. Two goals (82 and 90) from Rhys Henry seal the point for Hornby's men, taking two points off a Leigh team who probably deserved them. Tamworth (h) (4-2-2-2): Sticking with the tactic that brought last minute joy in the last fixture pays dividends, as the team that would start the next two matches also cruise to a 3-1 victory. A dodgy penalty decision in Whitby's favour doesn't cause too much of a grey cloud over a very good performance. Telford (h) (4-2-2-2): After only having 1 day's rest before this game, no-one was expecting much. Imagine the joy of everyone associated with Whitby Town as they cruise to a 5-0 victory, with the apparently dreamy front two combination of T.C. (one penalty) and R.H. bagging two goals each. Harrogate (a) (4-2-2-2): Another controversial penalty decision (missed, for a bit of rough justice)... plus another more clear-cut one (put away by T.C.) set the platform for a convincing 3-1 win for the visitors, the strike partnership both getting on the scoresheet for the second match in a row. Whitby seem invincible at the moment, and are, based on this month's performance, looking set to well-overperform this year. End of August: Position - 6th P6, W3, D2, L1, F13, A4, Pts11 And to round off the month in true style, Whitby clean up at the player of the month awards. Spurs1979 Posted November 22, 2007 Share Posted November 22, 2007 Gloucester City - Blue Square South - 2007/2008 Season Well I finally decided to just pick a team & go with them as Harlow Town really aren't going to ever get promoted it seems. It was a choice between Hendon, Banbury or Gloucester so I opted for Gloucester. I hope to have similar progress like I did with Hendon & move up the leagues relatively quickly, I always give myself 2 seasons in the lower leagues & then when I hit league one upwards allow 3 seasons to achieve promotion so that will be my aim again this season. I've told my chairman that I will give them a top half finish this season & with that I am armed with a wage budget of £2.7k pw & the usual £0k transfer budget. I will now go & scour the freebies for playing staff & coaching staff, I imagine 1 or 2 of my Hendon favourites may make a re-appearance for me at Gloucester but we will see. Spurs1979 Posted November 22, 2007 Share Posted November 22, 2007 Just gone through pre-season, all my staff members are regens who are basically a 1 year stop gap, this plan worked very well with Hendon as I didnt want to tie myself to staff members who clearly arent better then the league I am playing in so will replace them year by year until I am happy with someone who is decent to hold onto. As for my playing staff well I cancelled the link with Cheltehnham at the start & asked for a new parent club, the options I got were either Bristol City, Swindon Town or Hereford. I opted for Bristol City as they were in the highest league & I was impressed with quite a few youngsters in there reserve side & youth side. Immediately after agreeing the link they sent me 3 players, Martin Slocombe who will be my first choice left back when he comes back from injury. Ross Stern who is going to play up front for me & centre back Christian Ribiero who looks top quality & should help my defence to keep tight this season. Along with those I requested 3 more loans from the club, Tristan Plummer who I expect to score plenty of goals for me this season, Frankie Artus who can pull the strings for me in midfield & a young centre back who will provide cover, Luke Wilkinson. Whilst I didn't initially want too many loan playesr I have 5 in my starting XI but will only use 4 of those for the first 4 months or so, financially I struggled to get many players interested & lost out on quite a few players which led me to agreeing these loan deals. I also signed 3 of my former favourites from my Hendon game again who were yet again released from there club sides, Curits Obeng, Jake Livermore & Alexander Smith. I expect all 3 of these to be able to stay within my squad for a few years & be around championship/league one standard once they progress into there mid 20's. I filled the rest of my squad with pretty average players for this league, don't expect any of them to light the world up but it was the case of mix & matching to get a squad that can cover positions if injuries happen but also not be heavy on my finances. My wage budget is £2,730k pw & I am currently spending only £1,652k pw of that so I am quite pleased I've managed to keep that low. I look forward to starting the season & hopefully can achieve that top half I predicted, whilst secretly wanting promotion it's always a bit difficult to judge how things will settle until you've played a few games so we will see how things go. We started the game brightly & created 2 chances in the first 10 minutes which gave me hope we could perform ok this season. As soon as I thought that Barnes-Homer went & scored from 35 yards against me to put me 1-0 down, didn't really know what to think as until then we'd been the better side. Immediately from the kick off we played some great passing & Artus played a superb ball through to Plummer to bring it back to 1-1. Only 6 more minutes were needed for our 2nd goal to come from a corner where Ribiero flew through the air to smash a header into the top corner. Full of confidence it was Stem's chance to get on the scoresheet this time with a lovely finish from a tight angle to send us to halt time 3-1 up. Leaving things the same as we were playing well we kicked off & there was Barnes-Homer yet again scoring a scorcher from distance, this time only 25 yards to pull it back to 3-2. The win was never in doubt as we dominated most of the second half & added a 4th goal through Plummer who also picked up the man of the patch award for terrorising there defence. First impressions are I will score goals as Artas seems to make some sublime passes to my strikers from midfield but also my goalkeeper is absolutely awfull so will concede his fair share also. Promotion has to be my aim after this performance, we played some good stuff & hopefully can be there or there abouts come the end of the season. Creating a lot of chances in each game but not scoring that much so I decided to sign McKay. I had him on loan when I was in Blue Square premier and now he has improved a lot, hope he makes the difference again. Also bought a fast right winger with good crossing abilities. Doing a lot of profit right now because I'm sharing a 10000 seater ground and is always full up. Stadium expansion will be ready in two months, the stadium will then have almost 5000 seats, hope for an extension next summer too. But after playing 3 or 4 games last night including knocking Luton out of the Sultana Shield on penalties and the fact that my tactics seem to have not been affected by the patch I think that I'll be keeping my current Hitchin game. I've also got a few youngsters in and I want to see how well they progress over the next couple of years. Playing some awesome football & creating 20+ chances in most games against teams. Game against Waltham Forest in the fa cup at home comes up after a 6 match winning streak & I find myself losing 4-1, most there players have 2 or 3 stats above 10 & the rest below 10 yet they played like a championship side would against me. Players going on mazey runs past my midfield & defence. Strikers winning every ball that goes up to them wether it be with a burst of pace or a massive leap. Just silly, really wanted a good run in the cups & yet I get this, so unrealistic to have been hammered by a team in this manner when I'm on such a great fun of form & playing top stuff.
