warkill
Personally, i've never had a son myself b4, and would like to have one soon. Then an idea struck me. How about an easier chance on getting a son??? For example, staying at a club for 3 seasons or more increasing ur chance of having a son coming your youth system. And maybe 10 seasons at a club, a son will come into your club as a youth. Please give me your comments

acidmonkey
what not to understand? if say the percentage of getting a son come through your youth is currently 15% if your at a club for more than 3 years the chances become greater e.g. 40% if your at a club for more than 10 years the chances become 90% i do kinda like it

Does anyone know the current chances, or is it just random? Also I don’t think the amount of time you spend at a club should dictate whether you get a son, but rather how long you play the game for. Just a thought
baker.simon
Anything that increases the chances of having an in-game son is fine by me I've still never had one!

Vic Taylor
exactly what i was thinking acidmonkey! thanks! if i'm not wrong, the chance of your son coming to your youth team is 1:10,000 So... if you save just before you get your youth intake, and keep reloading, you're bound to get a son eventually? Thrustking56
Thing is the rarity is what makes sons so special in fm, I think increasing the likely hood is just going to ruin the concept.

Agreed, how many real life managers have sons in football, not to many off the top of my head: Clough - Brian & Nigel Ferguson - Alex & Darren Redknapp - Harry & Jamie Lampard - Frank & Frank

John Smith
Maldini - Cesar and Paolo Cruyff - Johann and Jordi Strachan - Gordan and Gavin Dalglish - Kenny and Paul Kranjcar - Zlatko and Niko Krkic - Bojan and Bojan Schmeichel - Peter and Kasper Bruce - Steve and Alex Reina - Miguel and Jose Smolarek - Wlodzimierz and Ebi Busquets - Carles and Sergio Mazzola - Valentino and Sandro Cha - Bum-Kun and Du-Ri Forlan - Pablo and Diego Djorkaeff - Jean and Youri Owen - Terry and Michael Laudrup - Finn and Michael, Brian Gudjohnsen - Arnor and Eidur Summerbee - George, Mike and Nicky (3 generations) Eremenko - Alexei and Alexei Quite a fair bit. acidmonkey
we're talking about manager sons so for starters Reina and Schmeichel can be take out of that list as can the owens as i admit there are lots and lots of players whos father has played football professionally, but not alot of managers

Current system is fine imo, makes it special when/if it does happen. I've never had one fwiw.

Guest markyosullivan
I've had a son before in the game. Was last years game when I was winning everything with Valencia. He was Spanish with a second nationality of English I think. Or maybe it was vice versa. Unfortunately he didn't come through Valencia's youth (although it might of been the English club I was managing before I joined Valencia - Norwich)
crouchaldinho
It should definitely stay as it is and remain a very rare and treasured moment in an FMers life. That's my humble opinion anyway.
phnompenhandy
Paul and Blair Sturrock. Anyway, if you want a son, I hear John Terry has a habit of making 'em and chucking 'em away.
Blacksquare
I think its age. Most people start around in their 30s. Realistically as a professional you might have a kid in your 20s or 30s. So it might takes 15 to 20 years at one club before you get a child. I would say if you start in your 40s or 50s it might increase the chances. Although you need to have an odd last name to even notice it.

Dave7BFC
I've had one on this years game, or at least I'd say hes my son I started off as Barnsley manager and eventually took over at Man City, after sending my scouts out to the lower english leagues he came back with a kid with the same last name so i checked him out and im on his favoured personnel, so he could have been there from the age of 13 or something when i was in charge and as ive left hes grown up

Although all the other bits sound as they should be i mean the game has set it up as if hed joined at 12/13 then when i left it kept him there rather than a youth come through a club id only just joined:)
Dob1
Think about it though, If you're at a club for 3 years, and your son comes through. Your son will have had to have been 12 or so before you joined the club.
santy001
Lou Macari had 2/3 sons play professionally although one killed himself. ANDEHLSON
I had one in FM07. In my 5th season, I was 29 years old. (so I doubt age influences it..) Too bad it was in a crap league and the club's facilities werent too good back then.
charlo116
the chances of getting a son through your youth system is pretty small and it should stay that way. Think about it realistically, plenty of managers would have sons but how many have the ability to become professional footballers?
jakobx
The chance should be much much higher. I never had a son in FM and i probably played more than 100 seasons since they put this mythical feature in.
bardock
I think this is one of those ideas that could make the game a little more fun without really impacting on realism. RL sons of managers might be a rare breed, but it does happen, so I see no problem with increasing the chance of one of us getting a son in game. Good way of feeling some sort of connection with one/two of the players. 1st son 1:50 2nd son 1:500 Etc... This way we won't end up with a squad of our own children. I don't see anything wrong with it to be honest. Good idea.
jayahr
Personally, i've never had a son myself b4, and would like to have one soon. Then an idea struck me. acidmonkey
ok out of all those listed is say maybe a dozen actual managers and their sons, out of 92 league clubs in england alone, the thing is it IS rare and i like it being rare its a sense of pride when you get a son come through the Youth team, (never had one myself had a few with my surename but its a pretty common surname)
