CB: Taylor

LB: M'Bengue

CM: Cabaye

CM: Tioté

RW: Jonas

AMC: Ben Arfa

Just resigned my post and did a save as to take control of 20th place Roma.. will be going back and forth between this and my newcastle save :D

  • 2 weeks later...
Mixed bag for me since this post. Seeing Villa end my 16 match unbeaten run really affected my team as we went on to lose our next 3 league games.

Man City (A) 0-4

Man Utd (H) 0-3

QPR (A) 2-3

There were some welcome interruptions in the form of cup games, the Bristol City 2-1 win being followed by an 8-5 (winning 3-2 away/5-3 home) aggregate League Cup semi-final win over Blackburn to take us to Wembley where we'll play Man Utd, who've played me twice already this season scoring 9 and conceding only 2 in both meetings. This comes only 3 days after the second leg of the Euro Cup 1st knockout round away to Spartak Moscow. To say I'm not confident of securing my first trophy on FM12 is an understatement. lol

Managed to stop the rot in the league with a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal and after a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Forest in the FA Cup I'm now about to face 19th placed Fulham at Craven Cottage, hoping I can get the league campaign back on track. The Forest result was fairly disappointing as while I opted to field some youth and some fringe players I should've still had more than enough to comfortably win the match with the likes of Gallas, Granero, Gosling (only just noticed the alliteration there!) and Marveaux all starting.

January saw Kyle Naughton (£2.3m) and Tiago Ilori (£3.5m) join to bolster my defensive ranks. I cannot for the life of me get rid of Xisco, who I stupidly promised I would let go in the January transfer window, which slammed shut after seeing nobody attempt to take him off my hands even for free. £50k p/w I could do with saving.

So two draws and a win in my last 3 after 4 defeats in the previous 6 games. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards in the latter half of the season for me!

Been a while since this thread was last updated so I thought I'd pop on with an update of how my second season unfolded...

My pessimistic attitude towards the League Cup was unjustified, as I ran out 2-1 winners over Man Utd in the final :) (I think that's the first time I've won a trophy with NUFC in an FM game!) although there was disappointment in the EURO Cup as I found myself totally outclassed by a good Stuttgart outfit who triumphed 6-1 on aggregate in the semi-final. Back to the league itself then, and a mixed run of form saw me win only 5 of my last 13 league games to finish in 7th place.

Player-wise, Haris Vuckic was the undoubted revelation of my season, finishing with an average rating of 7.38 from 32 starts & 2 substitute appearances. He bagged 8 goals and 10 assists. Cabaye finished with 14 assists to top that particular table, and the top goalscorer was Cisse with 21 (17 in the league). Guttierez won the fans player of the year award after a great second half of the season which saw him become one of the first names on the teamsheet. He finished with 7 goals and 11 assists from 40 games (36 starts) and scored an average rating of 7.13.

This season I've decided that I'm fairly happy with my squad and instead of transfers I'm going to try and push a few more youngsters through to the first team. Adam Campbell has finally got off the mark in a competitive match, netting 2 goals in 2 games in the EURO Cup qualifiers. I'm also going to give Jack Butland more outings this season in goal, and with Tiago Ilori and Dodo performing well in defence I have a few solid youth players to push. I'm also going to try and fit Mehdi Abeid in along the way somewhere too, although with Ben Arfa and Vuckic in good form his first team spells are going to be limited I feel.

Well that's all for now folks, will update again soon.

That was an impressive season for Vukic there, hopefully you can get the same sort of impact from Abeid.

I haven't been on any of my FM saves much last few days. Got my new desktop system delivered and I have a backlog of other games I'm trying to catch up on (and that's before my copy of Skyrim arrives :p).

My dinky laptop couldn't really cope with running my Newcastle save anyway, too many leagues. Might try and dip back into it now I've got a decent desktop again....in between running around blowing stuff up and running away from monsters on the other games.

Started a new game with the WeeGiE update, so have Cisse :D I'm hoping having not played FM for about 2 months now I can come into this fresh save and make it last past my usual 1-2 seasons.

For starters I moved swiftly to try and get Erik Pieters in to fill that troublesome LB slot and, having had an offer accepted and made a favourable contract offer, looked all set to sign him. That was until Arsenal came in at the last minute and snatched him away by offering him a rotation contract on £7k less than I'd offered  That left me stuck as there weren't really any other LBs available who I fancied. In the end I shored up the defence with the acquisitions of Mapou Yanga Mbiwa and Toby Alderweireld for a combined £11.5m (used 48 month method).

Next I tried to move on as much of the deadwood as possible but in the end could only part with Lovenkrands, Best and Kadar for a combined £6m. Having sold Best and Mcloven, and planning on using 2 up front, a new striker was required. I had quite a number of targets but in the end plumped for a very inexperienced and potentially risky signing, Wilfried Zaha from Palace for £4.5m. I went for him because out of my few options he was quite a way cheaper and he looks to have had a bit on an upgrade on my update (4* potential rating). Hopefully he will repay my gamble and come good.

Onto tactics now and, after watching some somewhat long-ball play from our real life counterparts over the last few weeks, have gone for a "pure football" approach with quite a lot of creative freedom and short, reasonable quick tempo passing. I've set up with 2 main formations, a straight forward 4-2-4 with advanced wingers and a lopsided 4-1-1-2-2 (DMRC, MCL, AMC, AML) as I want to try and utilise Ben Arfa in his natural position in the hole behind the forwards.

Not going so bad up to now having won 3 and drawn 1 of our first 4 competitive matches (2-1 at Fulham, 3-1 against Villa, 3-1 at Brighton in the Cup and 4-4 at Anfield). The Demba twins have been rather good with 6 goals and 4 assists between them in 3 starts each.

Hello lads just start a new save with Newcastle but I have one question as I am looking to bring in more scouts but for some reason there are none who want to join. Is there a trick or a add staff member I should bring in to have the good scouts willing to join... cheers in advance

I could only sign one other scout that didn't apply for my job offers, when I next go on i'll tell you his name if you want. It's a known bug.

Finished the 2014/15 season, Newcastle in the end finished in 5th place under Alan Curbishley, went out in the Champions League to PSG I believe, sold Ben Arfa on a free, let Vuckic go for £3m and Damiao broke his leg. Still got my save from Newcastle left where I went to Roma (and then Malaga), maybe i'll play it again sometime soon.. I hate the thought of my squad being ruined :(

hey guys, quick question. who would u recommend as an AML who will score goals in 3rd season?

hazard is just too expensive and willian wont enter into contract talks.

already have gaitan playing AMR as he just doesnt seem to produce the same kind of displays on left and Thsabalala who seems to have a tendancy to do the spectacular but miss the sitters!

ben arfa is my rotation option but looking to move him on as he is very inconsistant.

looking to play them as winger-attack budjet of around 20mill, many thanks.

Mic - Do you still have Jonas? I have him as my AML, playing as an Inside Forward and he's been really good, very consistant. I've also seen some promise from Shane Ferguson who I've given a few outings too at the start of my third season and am definitely going to look to give him more game time this season. Although I haven't shuffled my pack very much from the start of the game.

I also brought in Junior Hoilett for £11.25m and Esteban Granero in my second season, he's been very good for me too. Neither are natural AML's but they can both do a job there.

cheers guys, @ Andrew just tried jovetic but he wasnt interested, could be that i missed out on europe in 2nd season.

@ Darth, may try a cheeky bid for hoilett as he always seems to cause my defenders problems when playing against him. if not maybe jonas will get a reprive after he requested transfer so i moved him to reserves. as for youngsters iv only really blooded vuckic but wasnt really up to scratch in my opinion (although with fillipe anderson and super siggy competing for same spot he had a lot to live up to)

Have a look at Antoine Griezmann, he's at Man Utd on one of my saves and is a regular scorer from the AML position.

You can't go wrong with Griezmann, I managed to get him for £19m in the second season and he's one of my best players for me getting both goals and assists in my Newcastle team in the 5th season. You could also have a look at Adam Johnson as he's usually listed after a while at Man City.

Oh yeah I probably should have said that i'd won the Champions League and Premier League the season before. What about Di Maria? Man City bought him in the first window on my save and rarely played him after.

City signed him on my Arsenal save as well....6 months later he was on the transfer list for half the price. Main drawback with Di Maria though would most likely be his wages. I imagine he'd want a fair bit more than Griezmann.

Adam Johnson would be a good shout too, as Scott says he's usually transfer listed pretty cheaply by City.

take a gander at the likes of these aswell :

gaitan

perotti

sarabia

douglas costa

james rodriguez

and my personal fave is gaston ramirez

He's already got Gaitan for the AMR position Welsh :p

The others are good shouts, can't believe I forgot Perotti....signed him on my Arsenal save and he's been excellent. He's right footed but likes to play as a left sided winger, chips in with a decent number og goals and assists throughout the season.

Haven't managed Gaston Ramirez yet, but he's one of those players who always finds a place on my shortlists, looks impressive, good mix of attributes with no real weaknesses.

Just set up a new save so I could add some extra info to the opening posts regarding the update.

I was slightly surprised to see Craig Dawson and Jay Spearing both start as transfer listed at West Brom and Liverpool, and oddly enough Wolves have been willing to offer £2.8 million for Nile Ranger.

Well the 2 players i've decided to bring in are Sime Vrsaljko and Jan Vertonghen. It's going to be difficult to bring in anyone else. Chelsea want 100% wages (60k) for Sturridge on loan. Can't afford that!!!!

Looks like it'll have to count on Besty and Shola to be backup. Sammy Ameobi looks half decent now.

What players have you offloaded and how much for?

I got...

Perch 4mil!!!!!

Lovenkrands 1.7mil

Might let Williamson go for 3.5 (what do you think?)

Players in

Vime Vrsaljko 3mil 48 months

Jan Vertonghen 8mil 48 months

Perhaps not, but if it had happened before datalock he'd have been at Cardiff in the official release (even if it is a half season loan) ala James Tavernier and Alan Smith's loan to MK Dons.

New game's under way now, can not afford anyone! So just desperately picking up freebies to bulk up the squad.

So far they include:

Guti (formerly of Real Madrid & Besiktas) on a season long contract @ 15k.

Herita Ilunga (formerly at Wet Spam) same as Guti but only 2k/week.

Fernando Meira for another season long contract on 10k/week.

Sold Lovernkrands for 1.6mil, Ranger out on loan.

Main formation:

Going for an attacking 4-4-2, fluid and attacking.

------------Krul

Simpson (boo) Taylor Colocinni Santon

-------Tiote---Cabaye

HBA------------------------Jonas

------Ba-----Cisse

Hopefully Ba and Cisse can deliver and HBA will perform out wide for me like he did against the mackems last weekend.

After not playing FM for a month or two I have just started a new save with Newcastle on the new patch :).

So with only £3m to play with I ve had to do some wheeling and dealing which of course I love doing anyway.

Transfers in.

Mario Balotelli on season long loan (only paying him £30k of his wages).

Dodo on season long loan.

Jan Vertonghen £8m (48 monthly installments)

Sime Vrsaljko £1.4m

Andile Jali £1m

Lucas Andersen £900k

Ryan McGowan £200k

Transfers out.

loads of youngsters on loan far to many to type out.

Jonas Gutierrez £10.5m (48 monthly installments)

Peter Lovenkrands £2.4m

James Perch £2.6m

Nile Ranger £1m loan fee

Steven Taylor and Mario Balotelli both got injured in our first match for 4 months and 2 months respectively, so I had to cancel the Fabricio Coloccini transfer that i had arranged with Liverpool.

I will be playing a Attacking 4-2-3-1 Deep this season.

GK Krul

RB Santon/Vrsaljko/Simpson/R.Taylor

LB Dodo/Santon/Vrsaljko/Simpson/R.Taylor

CB S.Taylor/Coloccini/McGowan

CB Vertonghen/Williamson/Kadar

DMC Tiote/Jali

DMC Cabaye/Guthrie/Gosling/Abeid

AMR Balotelli/Vuckic

AML Ba/Obertan

AMC Ben Arfa/Marveaux/Andersen

SC Cisse/Ba/Balotelli/Best/Ameobi

Hopefully Mike Ashley will give us some money to spend in January but I think this side has the potential to break the top four this season.
