I'm quite happy with the 2-2 draw against Honduras. It was a game we could've won. The stats certainly suggest we were on top. Shame about that penalty miss. That could've created a completely different story. Funny seeing those NTI boys happy with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica. Us STI lads have bigger fish to fry.

Kutgw! and eagerly anticipating the first 'Player of the Month'.

Treasure Islands Player of the Month, March 2013

With March concluded, there's just enough time to introduce our first ever Player of the Month. This can be a player from the Northern or Southern Islands and the award can be given for a number of reasons: consistent high level of performance over the month, outstanding contribution to a key game, a turnaround in form, a stunning last-gasp winning goal... It is designed to give an insight into what is going on for the players at club level as well as on the international scene.

So, without further ado, the March Player of the Month is....

ROBERT BOYLE!

Nation: NTI

Caps: 7 (0 goals)

Current Club: Sheffield Utd (English Championship)

The award is given to Boyle this month for two reasons:

1) He gave two standout performances for his club this month laying a goal in each game as Sheff Utd beat Leceister and Blackpool to move up to 2nd in the table.

2) This fine form comes after 2 and a half years of frustration in the Reading Reserves. Boyle has immediately had an impact at Bramall Lane following a 90k January move and looks set to play an important part in Sheff Utd's promotion push.

And special mentions also go to:

Claudio Castagnoli (AC Milan/STI), who, very much like Boyle, has finally broken into the first team after a long time on the sidelines.

Tom Smith (Barcelona/STI), who had an absolute stormer against Celta laying on all 3 goals in a 3-1 win and picking up a 9.8 rating.

Trevor Tobago (Dundee Utd/NTI) whose good form at club level earned him his first cap and led to an important NTI win.

Regens To The Rescue For NTI | STI + U.S.A. = 0

Northern Treasure Islands v. Mexico

Date: 03.04.2013

Competition: World Cup Quals (NAM), 3rd Phase

Venue: Capital City Stadium, Capital City

Previous Meeting: Mexico 3, NTI 1 (WCQ 2nd Phase Grp 3, 13.10.2012)

NTI Form: LWWDW | World Ranking: 103rd

Mexico Form: WWWWW| World Ranking: 13th

NTI Line-up (4-4-2): Almond; Hurst, Hamilton, Hawkini, Lazewski; Bojangles, Iglesias, Barkley, McBob Jnr. ©; Gayle, Gonzalez JR

Subs: Harrow, Jonathan, McNally, Flash, Hendrie, Tner, Gray

Match Report: NTI faced a tough game as they sought to consolidate on their win over Jamaica. Mexico had beaten them twice in the previous group phase and the NTIers knew a loss here would be a blow to their qualification hopes whereas a positive result could give them an edge over the other teams later on. The Northerners were determined to make the most of their home advantage with nearly 90,000 football mad fans cheering them on as they took the game to Mexico and did a good job of it. Barkely was the driving force in midfield, Iglesias and Bojangles were tirelessly running up the flanks and tracking back and Hamilton and Hawkini were aerially dominant at the back. Lazewski and surprise inclusion Hurst were also doing a good job of controlling Guardado and dos Santos on the wings. Gonzalez JR had some good chances but he was bringing the best out of Ochoa in the Mexican goal. With Tobago injured and Browne suspended, he lacked a strong partner though as Chris Gayle floundered. Despite their good play, NTI were to succumb to the experience of the Mexican side shortly before half time. A run from Carlos Vela was ended by a foul from Hawkini in a dangerous position and up stepped Rafael Marquez to fire in the free kick from 25 yards. It seemed that NTI’s game plan, effective as it was, would not bear fruit. In the second half, frustrations increased as Ochoa and the Mexican defence thwarted NTI’s best attacks and Mexico threatened to increase thier lead with some swift counter attacks. With Gayle looking out of his depth, Hendrie was sent on to see if he could make a difference and, with 8 minutes left on the clock he did. A quick attack by Mexico was stopped in its tracks as Hamilton claimed the ball before passing to Flash in the Mexico half, who turned and played a lovely pass to Hendrie. The Tranmere striker had his back to goal but managed to expertly control the ball, turn and shoot into the bottom corner. That goal earned NTI a vital point against the toughest team in the group and means they now sit 2nd in the table.

Final Score: NTI 1, Mexico 1 | NTI Player Ratings & Stats

Attendance: 89,936

Milestones: - Martin Bojangles and Ben Flash earned their 20th caps for NTI

- James Almond made his 15th international start.

Southern Treasure Islands v. U.S.A.

Date: 03.04.2013

Competition: World Cup Quals (NAM), 3rd Phase

Venue: World’s End Stadium, Cove Bay

Previous Meeting: U.S.A. 1, STI 1 (WCQ 2nd Phase Group 2, 17.10.2012)

STI Form: WWDLD| World Ranking: 80th

U.S.A. Form: WDWDL| World Ranking: 23rd

STI Line-up (4-4-2): Blackbeard; Castagnoli, Stigarakis, Toscani, Cardiovascular; Hart Jnr, Smith, James II ©, Gingerbread Jnr; Dodgson, Kroeger Jnr.

Subs: Brookes, Philippens, Burrows, Crazy, Hasek, Ogden, Redmond

Match Report: Meanwhile, somewhere to the South, STI hosted the other regional powerhouse as they took on the U.S.A. Both sides needed a result to kickstart their qualifying campaigns as the Southerners had played out two draws so far and the Americans had just a single point after defeat in Mexico. The game itself was an incredibley even, tense affair with both sides playing cautiously. Stigarakis and Toscani sat deep in defence, rarely venturing forward as the sought to snuff out any opposing attacks. Their counterparts did the same with Dodgson and Kroeger Jnr. struggling to find space. Even Smith and James II in the centre of midfield were struggling to make an impact and found themselves passing the ball back and forth looking for the openings that never came. It was no surprise in the end that the game ended goaless but the score was a cuase of concern for STI as they failed to take full advantage of playing at home yet again.

Final Score: STI 0, U.S.A. 0 | STI Player Ratings & Stats

Attendance: 89,991

Milestones: - Paul Hart Jnr, Tom Smith and Heinrich Kroeger Jnr. all made their 30th appearance for STI.

- Blackbeard picked up his 25th cap.

Other Result:

Jamaica 1, Honduras 0

Group Table (After 3 games) – As expected, Mexico are top. NTI have put themselves in a good position, 2nd with 5 points, 2 clear of STI in 3rd. Jamaica’s surprise win over Honduras has thrown the battle for the qualifying spots wide open but the biggest surpirse so far has to be the U.S.A.’s poor showing as they bottom and in danger of not even making the play-offs.

Good to see that STI are still in a position where they can qualify for the World Cup.

What's not so good is that van Pieters is still injured and his career has hardly even started. Hopefully once he returns he can get some first team football out on loan somewhere although Arsenal really don't seem all that keen to let him go.

When is Rufio van Pieters scheduled to return from injury DD?

DD obviously just feels sorry for you NTI folk seen as u STI'ers are far superior.

Of course, that's why the group table looks like this:

It says 3 to 4 months on his personal screen so he will be back for the start of next season and maybe even for the Gold Cup, which starts on 17th July. He has one more year to run on his contract so it will be interesting to see if Arsenal stick by him and offer a new deal. Or who knows? Maybe van Pieters will make his own decision to leave...

Treasure Islands Player of the Month, April 2013

Following World Cup Qualifiers, the Treasure Islanders returned to domestic football action to wrap up the season in Europe. In truth, it was not a great month for the Treasure Islanders with no truly oustanding performances or special moments. For that reason, this month's award is handed out on basis on consistency rather than showmanship.

The April Player of the Month is:

JUAN ALVARO BROWN!!

Nation: NTI

Caps: 18 (1 goal)

Current Club: Real Madrid (Spanish Liga BBVA)

Juan Alvaro Brown has been one of the stars of the sign up so far. A great start to his career at Porto was followed by a big money move to Real Madrid at the start of the season, where he has immediately become an intergral part of the team. This month saw him make 8 appearances in the league and the Champions League. Despite a poor start to the month, he showed his class with high quality performances against Valencia in the Champions League (especially in the second leg when he helped guard Madrid's defence after Sergio Ramos was sent off - unfortunately, his team would be eliminated on penalties) and against Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Almeria in La Liga. Although he didn't have a great game against Barcelona, Real still won, much to the delight of thier fans and put themselves in a great position to win the title.

Also worth a mention:

Tom Smith (Barcelona/STI) - played consistently in 8 matches, just like Juan Alvaro Brown, but crucially finished on the losing side in El Classico.

Blackbeard (Man Utd/STI) - after months of bench-warming, was suddenly called into action in the game against Everton due to an injury to the No1 keeper. Also did an admirable job in a tough game against league leaders Chelsea the following week.

Hello,

Apologies for my recent inactivity here. I have been following but haven't really found the time to write anything constructive.

Great to see things going well for the NTI though and as per usual great updates.

Last but not least... Player of the month! Woohoo! First of many I hope although really needs to cut down on the fouls and work on getting a few more goals.

I don't think I can even get a game in Australia, So I don't like my chances of getting player of the Month any time soon!

There's also the fact that the A-League finals finished in February meaning Burrows hasn't had any club action for three months. ;)

Healy still stuck on the Porto bench?

Yes, he is. His contract expires at thye end of the current season though and a couple of bottom half Liga Sagres teams are interested.

Looks like I'll have to wait till the end of season for the young Le Quack to get a mention :(

As he's on loan at a club in a non-active division, I don't have any real stats to go on. :( Hopefully, he'll be in the first team at Academica next season though.

Treasure Islands Player of the Month, May 2013

Plenty of action this month as most of the European leagues and cups came to an end. Treasure Islanders picked up medals, helped thier clubs beat the drop and won awards but the award goes to someone who made an impact in just a couple of games.

The May Player of the Month is:

MARCUS VAN DER COOK!!

Nation: STI

Caps: 6 (0 goals)

Current Club: Spurs (English Premier League)

It's never easy for a young player without much first team experience to be thrust into the spotlight. How about when you are called upon for a European semi final? That's exactly what happened to Marcus van der Cook this month when Curtis Davies picked up a groin strain days before the Europa League semi final with Werder Bremen. With Corluka already out, van der Cook, who had been on loan at Drogheda in Ireland and playing in the reserves all season, was suddenly called up. He played well in an emphatic 5-2 win at White Hart Lane and in the second leg, with Spurs getting increasingly nervous as their opponents took a two goal lead, he came up for a corner and flicked it on to Roque Santa Cruz to score. That goal ended Wereder's attempted comeback and helped Spurs to the final 6-3 on aggregate. Van der Cook returned to the reserves once Davies returned to fitness but with Spurs going on to win the final against Newcastle, he had made an important contribution.

May stats (club)

Also worth a few kind words:

Juan Alvaro Brown (Real Madrid/NTI) - the April Player of the Month wrapped up a great first season at Real with league championship and cup winner's medals.

Hawkini (Tigres/NTI) - a regular feature of the side that is on the verge of the clasura final in Mexico.

Tom Hamilton (Frankfurt/NTI) - a solid performance on the last day of the season helped keep the defence tight as Frankfurt escaped relegation on goal difference.

June 2013 International Update: Treasure Island Bosses Name Their Squads

The NTI and STI squads for the World Cup Qualifiers to be played on Saturday, 8th June and Wednesday 12th June were announced today.

NTI, away to Honduras before facing the U.S.A. at home, are still without Juan Alvaro Brown as he has one more match of his suspension to serve following his sending off against STI in the first game. Jack Browne and Benat Fernandez Iglesias return after their suspensions though. The return of Iglesias means Cristobal Blanco is excluded from the squad.

NTI Squad:

June2013NTISquad.jpg

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STI have two away ties - a very tough game at the Azteca against Mexico and a match against Jamaica they can not afford to lose. Craig Healy is recalled after missing out last time but three familiar faces are missing: Rufio van Pieters is still a month away from returning to training and Loic Philippens is currently out with a twisted knee. Paul Hart Jnr is also left out of the squad as he is suspended after accumulating two yellow cards.

Get in there.......Van Der Cook is voted player of the month!

Ok it was based on the back of a couple of performances in the European Semi final (not bad eh!) but he's really struggled to break in to the Spurs first team. Hopefully, this good showing and his value (£2.6 million) should see him start to make a few more strides in his career.

Cheers DodgeeD i'll pay that fiver now!!!:D:rolleyes:

Also worth a few kind words:

Tom Hamilton (Frankfurt/NTI) - a solid performance on the last day of the season helped keep the defence tight as Frankfurt escaped relegation on goal difference.

 It just goes to show how good a defender i really am! :D

Looking forward to the qualifiers this weekend

I'll run this through to a suitable conclusion, like last time (I think the FM08 version came to an official end at the end of the 2018 World Cup, maybe we can push through to 2022 this time).

Any FM10 sign up depends on time really. I have some other ideas to try out so I may go for those first. :)

I expect the same as with challenges - a flurry of them when the game is released, many of which won't get that far.

If I run another sign-up, I'll wait a while until I've had a chance to take a proper look at the editor and see what the possibilities are. :)

B&B Do The Business As NTI Get A Point | STI Learn It’s Nava Too Late For Mexico To Score

Honduras v. Northern Treasure Islands

Date: 08.06.2013

Competition: World Cup Quals (NAM), 3rd Phase

Venue: Francisco Morazan, San Pedro Sula

Previous Meeting: -

Honduras Form: WWDDL| World Ranking: 34th

NTI Form: WWDWD | World Ranking: 101st

NTI Line-up (4-4-2): Almond; Jonathan, Hamilton, Hawkini, Lazewski; Bojangles, Flash, Barkley, McBob Jnr. ©; Browne, Gonzalez JR

Subs: Harrow, Hurst, Barron, McNally, Hendrie, Gray, Webster

Match Report: A tough game on paper as NTI travelled to the reigning continental champions. The Northerners were on good form going into the game however, whereas Honduras had made a slow start to the group. The first half was very even but Honduras just edged it as they scored 4 minutes before the break, David Suazo rounding off a great move from the home side by nutmegging Hamilton and picking his spot beyond Almond’s reach. Paul Barron was brought on during the second half for Bojangles and had an instant impact. After just 7 minutes on the pitch, he collected a Jack Borwne pass on the halfway line and ran all the way into the box, beating 5 opposition players before chipping the keeper from a tight angle for an outstanding goal. NTI’s joy was short-lived though as Honduras soon re-established their lead through Hendry Thomas. NTI were running out of time and, in the end, large slice of luck helped them level the game again. As Honduras tried to clear the ball from their box, confusion ensued when the ball bounced of several Honduran and NTI players before falling to an unmarked Jack Browne who kept his composure to tap in. Things got a bit ugly after that as Honduras were reduced to ten men following a vicious foul on Ben Flash. It was too late for NTI to take advantage but they were satisified with the point.

Final Score: Honduras 2, NTI 2 | NTI Player Ratings & Stats

Attendance: 21,982

Mexico v. Southern Treasure Islands.

Date: 08.06.2013

Competition: World Cup Quals (NAM), 3rd Phase

Venue: Estadio Azteca, Mexico City

Previous Meeting: Mexico 2, STI 0 (2011 Gold Cup Quarter Final)

Mexico Form: WWWWD| World Ranking: 12th

STI Form: WDLDD| World Ranking: 81st

STI Line-up (4-4-2): Blackbeard; Castagnoli, Stigarakis, Cardiovascular, Hasek; Bobinho Jr, Smith, James II ©, Gingerbread Jnr; Dodgson, Kroeger Jnr.

Subs: Brookes, Toscani, Puckett, Burrows, Crazy, Smith, van der Cook

Match Report: STI faced their toughest game so far under a bit of pressure as they had only managed three draws in their opening three games. Nevertheless, early signs suggested they would give Mexico a run for their money with Smith and James II trying to stamp their authority on the game early on and Kroeger Jnr. going close with an early chance. Their bright start was confirmed on 15 minutes as James II whipped in a corner and J.D. Dodgson rose above the pack at the far post to head the ball in and open the scoring. That goal only served to stir the Mexicans into action and they laid seige to the STI penalty area for the rest of the half. The STI defence did their best to hold out and they managed to until the 72nd minute when Jiminez slipped away from his marker Theo Stigarakis to score at the far post. That spurred Mexico on to search for the equaliser. STI tried to pack the defence with van der Cook introduced late on but, just when it seemed the Southerners might escape with a point, a corner came into the box and Raul Nava found himself unmarked and headed the ball in at the near post. So close for STI but ultimately, they left the stadium with nothing.

Final Score: Mexico 2, STI 1 | STI Player Ratings & Stats

Attendance: 88,026

Milestones: - J.D. Dodgson made his 25th appearance for STI and scored his 10th international goal.

- Claudio Castagnoli picked up his 20th cap.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Result:

U.S.A. 2, Jamaica 2 – the Americans seemed to have their qualificaiton programme back on track until two late goals earned Jamaica a point and left the Americans still searching for a win.
