The Ultimate Football Manager Challenge

Recommended Posts

Almost done it...

Unexpectedly won the Champions League with Valencia but when the Arsenal job come up it was too good to turn down for me at an almost perfect time - Arsenal are the team I support irl. Only need one more domestic cup and the Premier League title to complete the league and cup bit and then there is the FIFA World Club Cup but I should get that all with Arsenal eventually.

The only issue is the International front - need the Gold Cup which essentially means waiting for either the Mexico or USA jobs to come up. Will stick with Brazil in the mean time into the next World Cup and hopefully then there will be a managerial change.

I’m keen to take that job as they seem to compete in the Copa America when they host it. Doesn’t seem to be every edition but they beat me in the semi final when I was in charge at Brazil. It could be helpful to tick off the Gold Cup and Copa America seeing as they’re ranked number one in the world too. I have got to wait for the job to become available though. I was out today so I haven’t played any of the Euros with Spain yet but I will be resigning when that tournament is over. My hope is I can pick up the Mexico job as my next international stop.

In my save they were in the Copa America even though Chile were hosting it. So perhaps they are gonna be in it every tournament.

Always seem to have a good side as well.

I took over Kaiser Chiefs in a similar state. Glad I did to be honest, were rich enough that I could build a CL winning team very quickly. Honestly should’ve won it sooner. Absolutely dominated the league with them.

Spain: Euro 2064

There was very little time to dwell on my successful campaign with FC Porto before the European Championships kicked off in host nations Belgium and the Netherlands. My club side had lifted three trophies but now my focus shifted onto one more, the European Championships. My squad selection was fairly straightforward although did include a few surprises. I left out one big name but decided to include a couple of players yet to make their international debuts. One of them was 29-year old holding midfielder Adria Albert on the books at AS Monaco. I had managed him during my time with Valencia and knew what to expect from him. The biggest news was the inclusion of 34-year old Tottenham winger Miguel. This despite of the fact he had missed the last six months of club action with a major injury. My squad had the highest average age at the tournament and to be honest for most it would probably be a last international tournament for them.

Prior to the tournament we had a couple of warm up friendlies though. I handed debuts to all uncapped players and gave everybody within the squad some game time across the two games. Unsurprisingly we produced dominant performances in both a 2-0 victory over Tunisia and then a 3-0 win over Israel. Hopes were high for the tournament. Our group actually looked rather tough, although I was confident we would progress. Belgium, Scotland and Slovenia awaited us, the latter being the simpler of the three games.

12981680_EuroGroup.png.dcb68a6144e644723d42422883fb55ad.png

First up were Slovenia and we found ourselves 4-0 up inside the first half. The perfect start to our tournament and it meant that I could use my substitutions to rotate some key members of the squad in the second period. We didn’t add anymore goals but the overall performance was a very pleasing start. Next up we’re Scotland and we faced a much different challenge. Having conceded early we did well to get a 1-1 draw, although we created more than enough chances to grab a winner. Our final match was Belgium and it was a thoroughly entertaining contest. We weren’t at our best but it made for an intriguing contest. Despite some really good chances for both sides it was to end 0-0 meaning we finished behind the impressive Scotland in our group.

We hadn’t been impressive during the group stage, but defensively we had been good. Goals were a problem after the opening game and that was something I was hoping to put right in the knockout rounds. Finishing second in our group helped us grab an easier draw for the first knockout game as we played Romania.

I expected an easy contest but that couldn’t have been further from what we got. We were second best until the 75th minute where we took a really undeserved lead. We added a second a minute from time before conceding deep into stoppage time. We were 2-1 winners but we really didn’t deserve our spot in the quarter finals. We would face Germany and we really needed to start performing much better.

1460514618_EuroQF.png.30c09f70eebd20633c1de007ac54543c.png

Yet again we failed to perform and this time we were sent packing from the tournament. I had hoped that conceding early on may have sparked my players into a performance but it didn’t and we ended up exiting the competition with a whimper.

My time with the Spanish national side has come to an end and just a day after our disappointing elimination from the Euros I walked away from my position as manager. A really humbling end to what was a thoroughly enjoyable and successful spell. We picked up a Nations League win as well as the World Cup two years ago and I have enjoyed my time with the side. That defeat to Germany was my only defeat during my entire reign which really is an impressive effort. Despite an array of attacking talent it was success build on defensive solidarity and that’s extremely pleasing indeed. I’m gutted it’s all over but it definitely is the best time to leave. The bulk of this squad are close to retirement and it will require one almighty rebuild. I don’t have the time or interest to try and spark that and so I move onwards. For now I have no desire to return to international management. Having won the World Cup it’s now going to be another few years before the next European Championships or Copa America and they are my next two targets. I’m hoping at some point the Mexico job will become available and if I’m honest that’s the only place I have an interest in going. For the time being I focus on the upcoming season with FC Porto. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a new club job somewhere else but for now I’m still in Portugal and will be trying to build a squad capable of grabbing more successes before I move on.

Off to a great start with Rosario Central. Managed to get on a winning run and secure promotion.

A club with great potential so I think I will be able to build a strong squad.

Also got the job for Nigeria.

Dunning Kreuger 2035: Charlotte FC

20210625202347_1a.jpg.fb148fb3809f932a6a64d6e8241953d0.jpg

This off season's squad rebuild was as intense as expected, and went almost to plan. I allowed 7 players to leave in the waiver draft - those were a combination of deadwood and failed prospects. The same draft allowed me to obtain a quality center back and a backup central midfielder. One aging designated player left on a free. 3 more players left for transfer fees during January - an international I needed to move for roster space, a skilled but aging winger I was happy to allow to leave, and last year's starting GK. His replacement was already on hand, the fee he generated was nice, and letting him go preempted inevitable playing time concerns that would have arisen. On the inbound side, the board had given me just over $10 million to work with, and wanted that money spent. Despite my best efforts, I only managed to burn through $6.75 million, but that was sufficient to satisfy all parties. That bought me an excellent young GK, a right wing who's ready to start and has room to improve, and a starting quality CM. Another young midfielder poached from Manchester United's youth setup of all places rounded out the major acquisitions. I went into the season with high hopes - at least one trophy and qualification for the NACL looked to be in reach.

I expected to do well in regular season, and early returns more than met my expectations. We opened the season with a 4-0 win over Toronto, lost our next match to Cincinnati 0-1, the embarked on a 9 game unbeaten run. That run went from mid March to the end of April with 8 wins and a single draw, seeing us 9 points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference. The run ended in the most bizarre fashion imaginable as we lost a game in which our opponent failed to take a single shot. In the final moments of the match my generally excellent left back, under no immediate pressure, decided to clear a loose ball across the mouth of the goal. He blasted it directly off my keeper from all of about 5 yards away, and into our goal.

That mistake, and the off the wall result it produced launched us into a rather ugly stretch in May. We embarked on a 4 game win less run, and only won 2 of our 7 matches that month. Whatever provoke that mess, we were over it at the end of the month and were excellent across June and July. That may have been the theme of this season - 2 months of excellence followed by a month of poor form at best. August was another of those poor months - the only win we collected was in US Cup semi-final. Still, we were in a good spot, and the next 2 months would take us through the end of the season and into the MLS playoffs.

The MLS Eastern Conference wasn't all that strong this year, and we were able to wrap up the conference title with 3 matches to go. That was important because it both gave us a bye in the first round of the playoffs and secured us a berth in next season's NACL. The race for the Supporter's Shield was much closer - it took a final day draw against Seattle to secure that as we finished level on points but held the tiebreaker.

Moving into the playoffs, a first round bye gave us just over 2 weeks to prepare, which was time for a few worn down players to recover. A 2-1 win over NYCFC and a 2-0 over New England secured our berth in the MLS Cup - against Seattle. 2 early goals set the tone for that match, and we went on to win Charlotte FC's first ever MLS Cup in front of the home fans by a score of 5-2.

We had a good run in the US Cup, but ultimately lost to NYCFC in the final on penalties. As the Leagues Cup wasn't important I used it as an opportunity to rotate heavily, and we bowed out in the Quarter Final to Mexican side Pumas. Overall I'll call this a successful season.

Looking into the off season and the upcoming campaign I expect to be able to largely keep the squad intact. Only 2 players who actually made an appearance for the team this year are certain to leave. The more important of the 2 is a squad player I'd like to keep but his agent is demanding far more playing time than the player deserves, so he's replaceable. I also have my eye on a few players who would make solid contributions to the squad. My plan will be to improve depth this year more than focusing on bringing in new starters. I expect to prioritize the NACL and US Cup, and a bit more depth should help keep us in a decent spot in the league.

Total Progress: 8/32

Club Overview ~ Finances ~ League Table ~ Squad Overview

So after leaving Monarcas Morelia we quickly found a job in South Africa, this team has a very depleted squad after contracts etc expired so I have plenty of wages to play with. They are a team that is predicted 2nd so I'm hoping this is a chance to gain promotion at the first time of asking. Plenty of scouting to get through before the start of the season and hopefully we can get some players in before the season starts.

December of 2031 I was approached by West Ham who were languishing in 19th place in the Premier League, this gave me the hope that I'd be considered for much more appealing jobs and I'd be able to cherry pick some of the better teams in the smaller leagues to help speed up my progress in this challenge. I didn't get the West Ham job, Vincent Kompany beat me to it. But shortly after I was given an interview by Everton (who Kompany left for West Ham) and Guangzhou of the Chinese Super League.

Both clubs offered me the role as manager so I had a bit of a decision to make. Everton were 18th in the PL and had no money to spend, whereas Guangzhou had just finished as runners up in the Asian Champions League and had £40 odd million for me to spend. It didn't take long for me to decide!

2032

Before a ball was even kicked I was dealt a massive blow as one of my star overseas player, Carlo Antonio, damaged his cruciate ligaments and would miss the entire season. The only saving grace was that I was able to sign another overseas player to fill the spot on the registration in his absence. We also had a 32 year old Edmond Tapsoba wanting to leave the club, I duly obliged by sending him off to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. This gave me a chance to raid my old club, Vancouver, and sign centre half Milos Milosevic for £5m. The strict rules regarding foreign players made it difficult to strengthen the squad without over spending on Chinese players, but we needed reinforcements and I ended up splashing half my budget on a fairly decent Chinese attacking midfielder.  We did get one more big signing in before the season had started. Norwich City striker, Jez Eldred was signed for a fee of £31m.

We started the season in good form, winning our first four matches easily. Until we came up against Beijing, where we lost 4-3 away from home. We recovered well and went on a 15 game unbeaten run in the league that saw us cement top spot as Beijing fell away after a run of poor form. Meanwhile in the cup we had made it to the Semi final where we'd play Beijing . It was a travesty that we didn't win, they only had the one shot on goal and that was from the penalty that they scored. We just couldn't find the back of the net. It would have been nice to get the cup wrapped up in my first season!

The disappointment of the cup semi final defeat didn't hamper our season and even selling off two of our foreign stars midway through the season wasn't enough to stop us running away as comfortable champions, winning the title with five games to spare and eventually ending up 13 points clear of Beijing. Karlheinz Walzer, a German winger I brought in to replace the crocked Carlo Antonio ended up being named player of the season, unsurprisingly with his 24 goal contributions in 23 games. And Jez Eldred chipped in with a solid 20 goals in 28 games.

I'm not sure how we'll fare in the Champions League next season, Beijing only managed to reach the second round so I'm hoping they just had a stinker rather than that being the expectation for Chinese clubs. I should have four spare spaces for foreign players come next season as Carlo Antonio, who missed this season through injury wants out and we decided to let 34 year old Mykola Shaparenko leave on a free. I'll be going all out to make sure we at least win one of the cups needed for the challenge, here in China.

I had no idea how this season was going to go, I had one of my hardest transfer windows ever in FM. I tried to get so many players in throughout the window but I kept getting turned down for other clubs. I persevered signing our last 2 or 3 players on the final day of the season which just about gave us enough squad depth. Thankfully the hard work paid off and we walked the league comfortably in the end. I've already tied my main starting 11 down from this season for next season as I'm going to release the rest of the squad and hopefully try and improve the squad a little with the free wages that creates. I have no idea what the gap is like between the two leagues in terms of quality, but I feel we should be staying up fairly comfortably considering I beat a team 5th in the Cup with my back up team.

SEASON 19 (2038-2039)

AC Milan

1099.png

After the 2038 World Cup and after leaving Barcelona, AC Milan offered me cooperation. Rossoneri took a shameful 11th place last season. Upon arriving at the team, the board's requirements were clear - a place in the Champions League. For this purpose, I was given a lot of funds, which I spent on a considerable reconstruction of the band. In fact, there are only 4 players left in the starting eleven compared to the previous year. We started the season with a painful clash with reality - we lost 3-1 against Juventus, in the second leg we lost again - 4-0 away. As it turned out, despite these two defeats, we counted in the fight for the championship to the 36th round. Unfortunately, 94 points are not enough to beat Juventus, but we can owe ourselves to ourselves as we lost a lot of points at home against opponents from the bottom of the table. As for Coppa Italia, I think there is nothing to comment on. In the first round we were eliminated after the derby match with Inter.

FC Porto: 2064/65 Review

Having finally clinched the league title last season it was time to come back and have one more season at the helm of this great club. I’d decided this would be my last season with this side, aiming to win a second straight title and put to shame any arguments that last seasons success was down to a poor showing from Benfica. I planned to win as much silverware as possible before departing, but the league title was my real priority. The summer was fairly active but not so much on incomings. Central defensive stalwart Gaston Lopez was our biggest departure after three very good seasons here. He was sold to Dortmund in a £60,000,000 deal. The biggest incoming saw us splash £50,000,000 on central midfielder Kenan Cinar from Nice of France. We opened the season up with a fantastic victory over rivals Benfica in the Portuguese Super Cup. The score was only 2-1 but in honesty it should’ve been a whole lot more in what was an extremely dominant display.

Table1.png.2f7ef5bfccd2812d8a13eccd2f72e7a9.png

The league turned into a bit of a stroll this time around as we proved that last season was no fluke by winning the title for the second time under my management. Led by the goals of Gerard Mulder-Marinus (33 league goals in just 31 appearances) and a really impressive defence we strolled to the crown with relative ease. Benfica had a much better season but weren’t able to keep pace with us. At one stage we broke all sorts of records with a quite ridiculous run of fourteen straight clean sheets. To complete a second unbeaten season in charge of this side is also an achievement I doubt will ever be matched.

Celebrations.png.ec6863d1f6c5753c7991cf41818579d7.png

Outside of the league we weren’t as dominant as in the past few years. The Taca da Liga would frustratingly go home with Benfica this season, after they had knocked us out in the semi final stage. We went down to a 1-2 defeat to miss out on the final once more . The Champions League was also a disappointment. After winning our group with a 5-1-0 record we were drawn against Inter Milan in the first knockout round. A much changed team was thumped 0-4 away in Italy before we nearly completed the most remarkable of comebacks. A 5-1 victory in the return leg saw the aggregate scores level, but we crashed out on the away goals rule.

We did manage to make it to the final of the Portuguese Cup though as we breezed through the competition. Our only real test came in the two legged semi final where we were drawn against Braga. A 2-0 home win was followed by a 1-0 away victory though as we reached yet another final in this competition.

2129112952_PortugueseCup.png.9cbff4359f250aea3c3635d2df96a843.png

We endured probably my most disappointing cup final here in Portugal in a game in which we just never got going. After conceding early on we never looked like getting back into the game. We threw everything at them late in the game but by then we were 0-2 behind the trophy had slipped away. It was a disappointing performance and a really sad way to end an unbelievable spell here.

It really does seem to be the perfect time to leave this club after a really enjoyable and successful six year spell. A total of sixteen trophies were won and to end it with back to back league titles really does feel good. It probably shouldn’t have taken me as long as the four years it did to win the title but to end up with two feels really good. On top of that we completed two completely unbeaten league seasons which is quite ridiculous. Even if one of those didn’t even occur during a title winning campaign. We also picked up that unlikely Champions League crown during my reign, meaning I have now won that competition on five different continents. Now is the time for me to move although I can’t help bit feel a little emotional about it. England looks my most likely destination, but I’m also open to a return to Italy or even France. I need to win league titles in all three of those countries although my reputation allows me to be a bit picky with regards to what club I join. I’m also still looking for an international role and eagerly checking regularly to see if the Mexico job becomes available. It hasn’t yet and I have also been tempted to go to Uruguay as that job has been available pretty much all season long. For now I go into the summer full of optimism, hoping to pick up a new club as soon as possible.

Career Update: July 2065

My period of unemployment lasted just over a month after my decision to resign as manager of FC Porto after a trophy laden spell. I definitely ended up falling on my feet as I was welcomed back to France as the manager of Paris Saint Germain on a three year deal. I had a spell in France previously with AS Monaco where I was unable to topple the mighty PSG. Now I try to make them as dominant as possible. My arrival here comes after a board takeover that saw them sack their existing manager. Ironically he has now moved on to become the manager of the team I departed, FC Porto. I join a club that has won eleven of the last fourteen league titles, including the last three. They've also won six of the last Coupe De France crowns too. Plenty of dominance.

I've been presented a transfer budget just shy of £50,000,000 with the target of winning the league title. Unsurprisingly we're favourites to lift the crown and that is very much my aim. I want to chalk off the league title and domestic cup as soon as possible so I can look to move on. Hopefully it'll be achievable and I am confident in my abilities to do just that.
Hopefully this will be a quick and successful spell.

Results: DSTV Premiership I ~ DSTV Premiership II | Telkom Knockout | Nedbank Cup

So after getting promotion in our first season with Cape Umoya UTD, we have managed to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup (Europa League). After promotion I wasn't sure what to expect but in all honesty there isn't that much of a gulf between the two leagues barring two or three teams. Ultimately draws cost us so much this season, we were not clinical enough and I'll be looking in to the front 3 of my formation to see what adjustments I can make. Defensively I was ecstatic though and hopefully I can add a few players to take us to that next level.  We did manage to bag the Telkom cup which I think qualifies for this challenge as it has all the teams from the top league and no other teams? @vikeologist If it doesn't let me know and I'll remove it .

I've actually really enjoyed my time with this team thus far and I think I'll stay with these until I win the Champions League or get sacked, I've already signed 5 or 6 South Africans for my Under 21s team to develop. I'm hoping I can get this part of the challenge out of the way in the next 2 or 3 seasons though.

@Crowy Yes, the Telkom Cup counts, because it has all the top division teams. There's a cup, at least i think there still is, is S Africa which only has the top 8 clubs, and that doesn't count.

You are right. There is the South African FA Cup and the Knockout Cup (Telekom Cup). There’s also the Super-8 Cup which is just a knockout for the top-8 sides in the Premier League the previous season.

2032

I messed up big time.

I'm not sure exactly how but unawares to me, we had failed FFP regulations. I only found out when trying to register my squad for the forthcoming season. We'd been cut a foreign player slot as punishment, so I had to choose one of my new overseas signings to basically miss out on playing football for an entire season. I'd also failed to sell wantaway midfielder, Carlo Antonio. So that was two foreign players on the books not playing any football for me. Just to compound my misery it turns out that we could only register 3 foreign players for the Asian Champions League. All these silly requirements (and my naivety) had cast some doubt on the season to come...

Despite heading into the season feeling like we were on the back foot somewhat, we managed two good victories in the Champions League group stages against FC Hiroshima and Western United to kick off our continental journey in good form.

Up next was the Chinese Super Cup and a chance for some early season silverware, against rivals Beijing. It was end to end stuff, we'd gone 1-0 up after only two minutes but were pegged back soon after. We regained our lead after half an hour, with Jez Eldred getting his second of the game. We just couldn't hold onto the lead as we gave away a penalty with a minute to spare until the break. Second half was much the same, we took the lead for the third time through a Milosevic headed goal and tried to shut up shot. Unfortunately we once again surrendered our lead to an 86th minute goal. Our heads had completely dropped at this point and we paid the price in injury time as they grabbed a late winner to win 4-3, despite us leading three times!

The loss in the Super Cup spurred us on to a fantastic run of 12 wins in 13 in all competitions. We won our Champions League group with a perfect record, scoring 24 times in the six games to earn a Second Round tie against Japanese side Hachioje Tigre.

55932744_AsiaCLGroup.png.1c81f8641382c25aaeae8f9be43b0b3d.png

The first leg was a game we should have won extremely comfortably, but once again we threw away a lead in injury time, we were 2-1 up with hardly any time left to play and somehow managed to LOSE the fixture 3-2. We had a chance to put things right with the second leg just a week later. We won 4-1, though they did score with their only shot on target in the 93rd minute. I was worried conceding late goals was going to become a habit of ours.

I shouldn't have been so concerned as we went on a 25 game unbeaten run after this tie. Sweeping aside Super Cup foes, Beijing in the Quarter Final in the cup and then DL Pro in the Semis to reach the final. We also smashed Korean side, Jeonbuk, 8-0 on aggregate in the Quarters of the Champions League and then Higashiosaka Rosa from Japan were defeated 5-0 on aggregate in the Semis. The league title was wrapped up early for the second season running as well.

In the Champions League final we were up against Qatari team, Al-Saad. It couldn't have been any easier as we gained my biggest ever victory, 9-0 in the first leg. I shuffled the pack a bit for the return leg and ran out 2-1 winners, handing us the Asian Champions League 11-1 on aggregate.

374174156_AsiaCLTree.png.4b5a8f34771f47588e8767dbbca446bc.png

Up next was the Chinese FA Cup first leg, luckily for us we'd already knocked out two of the better teams earlier in the season and we'd be facing relegation threatened Chongqing. Unbelievably, they played fantastically. We had no answer for their 5th minute opener and they held on to a 1-0 lead with the second leg scheduled after the last league game of the season.

In the biggest act of pettiness I've ever partaken as an FM player, I completely threw our last league game against Zhejiang who were one place and 2 points below Chongqing sitting in the relegation zone, knowing full well that Chongqing would be relegated if they didn't win their match. They didn't. That's what you get for saving your best performance of the season in the cup final!

896001713_GuanzhouPettiness.png.97e82ec5ffcd190d4a7ba9c8a9e17ed8.png

We went into the second leg of the FA Cup final needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit against a now relegated and demoralised Chongqing. Jez Eldred put in a fantastic performance, getting himself a hat trick in a 4-0 win to hand us the Cup and completing the treble!

1008743032_ChineseCup.png.f710ce3bdbd14b56ca27fb4972621ca6.png

I couldn't really have asked for a better season, especially considering the hassle of the squad registration at the beginning of the season. Another Continental title ticked off and no need for me to return to China, or Asia for that matter at domestic level. I handed in my resignation at the end of the season and decided to wait it out for an interesting job opportunity to come along...

Season 2030/3031

We were lucky going to a team as good as Cruz Azul is, with two wonder kids in the squad and some adjustments I was ready. I joined the team in the first phase of the competition when te team was very low. We were 17th when I joined the club. In the first phase we didn't make it till the play offs, there were only five games to play and that wasn't enough for us to overcome the 5 places to get in the top-12. So fully focussed on the second phase of the competition and de CONCAF Champions league, because luckily for us Cruz Azul won the second phase last year and therefore we were attending in the Champions League.

1390413964_Schermafbeelding2021-07-16om22_39_05.png.31590178aabaaa954cb9dc9d70327704.png

The competition phase itself was very tight. For a long time 7 teams were pretty close to each other, luckily in the end we made it into the top-4 so we could skip the first round of the play offs. The play offs then went quite easy till we reached the final. We faced Tigres in the final, and Tigres is kind of the nemesis of Cruz Azul. They only won one game against Tigres in the last five seasons. So a though battle ahead for us. And what a battle it became, especially in the second game after we lost the first game at home with 1 - 2. This is what happend in the final of the season:

1184391996_Schermafbeelding2021-07-16om22_39_24.png.b4bc3b039f4a7f7af357addc9a8af838.png

An insane game, with a insane overtime. Away goals don't count double in Mexico, so for a long time it looked we were going straight to the penalty shoot out. But luckily for us in the second to last minute of the game we did it. We made the 6 - 4 and won the title. What a game, especially because we got to overtime by a goal in the 97th minute of the regular time. Probably the most insane game in my career so far.

We also played in the CONCAF Champions League, which is the most boring Champions League I played in so far. But after the American teams beating some other Mexican teams we had a clear path to the final. And that final we won easily:

258509683_Schermafbeelding2021-07-16om22_42_34.png.c73d9150ac36b761a2af54e96ae5b1a2.png

So in a period of 8 months we managed to win the league and the Champions League in Mexico. So it's time for a new challenge. Currently there aren't a lot of interesting teams on the market available, so we have to wait and see what will be next in our journey.

Once again we had a difficult transfer window, I was struggling to find players then I realised I didn't have to only have 5 foreign players as U21's did not need registering so I got to work a bit late in this window. I felt with the quality coming in we would walk this league however draws after late goals were our downfall again. Penalties cost us a lot of points too when players clearly got the ball, I usually don't complain about that as I usually get my fair share but that wasn't the case this season. I was hoping for a better outing in the CAF Confederations Cup also however the registration rules are insane, I had to register my squad before the transfer window and I was in the process of scouting and trying to build a team that I barely added any players to registration. As for the cups I weren't too fussed about. The only positive from this season is that I've qualified for the CAF Champions League and I'm going to give it my all to try and win that and the league this season as I will look to move on when my contract expires in 2025.

Also on a side note I took over Nigeria in 2023 as well, we've only played 4 games of note so far and are in the process of trying to qualify for the World Cup and the ACON, I will post an update of that when there is something worthy of note.

Where does the Asian Confederations Cup fall in this challenge? I've not encountered it before, and have just qualified for it, but was going to leave Asia if I win the Asian Champion's League this year (looking on!)

Season 2032/2033

inter-milan-football-club-rebrand-logo_dezeen_2364_col_3.thumb.jpeg.1aa4431a0b5e993868fe2b2e496c6ed6.jpeg

So I went into what I was expecting to be my last season at Inter hopeful of at least winning the cup.

League- I went hard in the window to really strenthen my team. I signed an austrian winger on a free transfer who immediately became my best player. I had to rework my team to fit him in playing a 4222 for most of the season with him out wide and the other as a CAM. This was another nailbiter, for most of the season Juve, myself, Napoli and Roma were within a few points of each other. Juve dropped points with about 5 to go meaning it was in my hands. Second last game I had a hard 1-0 win away at napoli. Last game of the year I had Roma, a point would do. They scored first in the 2nd minute. I dominated and finally equaliser in the 80th minute. Last minute of the game none other than my former captain (who I didn’t want to lose) Barella scores a screamer and I lose it in the worse way possible. Amazingly in my game against juve I was down to 10 and conceded a 90th minute goal to lose 4-1. Had that game been 3-1 I would’ve tied on GD, GS, GA and head to head. There was no more things to sort league by so no idea what would’ve happened. I guess fair play may have come through with it.

62260248_ScreenShot2021-07-15at4_36_25pm.thumb.png.1aa2af00b1611698c94b32ccc36fa1d2.png

Cup- as always straight forward until the semis where I drew Juve. Two convincing 1-0 wins booked me a spot in the final. Napoli awaited me, it was a topsy turvy game where I threw away a lead twice. Luckily I was too good and won 4-2. My main Frach stepping upto the plate with 3 assists in the final. Another trophy ticked off the list to give me number 10 for the challenge, a nice milestone in the challenge and meaning I have nothing left in Italy.

1541059929_ScreenShot2021-07-14at5_17_02pm.thumb.png.1dfaab8bf91ee0f7cd4760da366cacd0.png

Super Cup- won this again. So close to a domestic treble

1147305466_ScreenShot2021-07-11at12_16_49pm.thumb.png.26ab6f1087937497eec008c88941c14b.png

Champions League- this was pretty disappointing, cruised the group finishing top. Drew Chelsea in the first knockout round. Lost the first leg 3-2 but was really quite unlucky and should’ve gone not lost. Home leg i took an early lead to put me through overall, unfortunately they scored and I was rubbish from then on crashing out. Overall a successful 2 years and i resigned straight after the league finished.

Nations League

I got through the group stage in this but not without my troubles having to beat Belgium on the last day which I managed to do. In the SF I drew Spain. I went down early then in the second half I had a man sent off. Despite this I reacted well scoring and equaliser to send it to ET. Again I went behind but again I equalised through a jammy own goal to take it to pens which I duly won.

I then had Germany in the final in which we were completely gassed. We never really got going and pens awaited us again. Unfortunately it was not to be and we lost. It wasn’t important to the federation but it would’ve been nice to win.

I’ve started my WC qualification with a couple of wins.

After I resigned I saw the Leipzig job pop up but I really wanted to go the Americas to try and win those two continental trophies. A month later the Dortmund job was up offering a transfer budget of $260 mil. In the interview I asked for more so they ended up offering me the job with a $290 mil budget. This was too good of an opportunity to pass up so I accepted it.

Liga MX
2024/25

League - Apertura Table | Apertura Final | Clausura Table | Clausura Final - easily topped the group and won the final in the Apertura.  Comfortably top of the table in the Clausura but then a disaster as we lost in the semi finals to a far worse team.  Oops.

Leagues Cup - Fixtures - lifted this North American version of the Anglo-Italian Cup

CONCACAF Champions League - Fixtures - a 15-0 aggregate win against Costa Rican side Saprissa started off things very well.  Next up were fellow Costa Ricans Herediano which although not as comfortable as the previous fixture was pretty straightforward.  In the semis Cruz Azul were our opponents and didn't give too much trouble.  In the final were MLS side Atlanta whom we stuffed at home in the first leg that a 1-0 away defeat meant nothing as we lifted the trophy.

Club World Cup - Table - as we won the champions league we qualified for this too - drawn against Inter and Santos I thought we were done for but two great wins saw a tie against Man City in the quarter finals.  We gave them a good game but they won with a late winner.

  Finances - healthy

Transfers - mainly sold players

We took all 11 spots for team of the season

Key players:

Erick Gutierrez - great in midfield again

Santiago Gimenez - just bangs them in

Heriberto Martinez - super prolific again and won the "NextGen" trophy

Diego Espinosa - bought the winger for £1m from New York and he was great

Leonardo Aguilar - excellent winger signed in the winter

Maximiliano Pereira - great Uruguayan defender on a free

David Martinez - strong defender

Tomas Gallegos - youth team striker brought in after some good performances in the youth system, and went and scored 7 goals against Saprissa so stayed there.

Future - with the CL done I resigned after the club world cup.

@CrispypaulI'm sorry, but I don't want the Leagues Cup to count towards the challenge.

The confusion may be my fault. I've always said that the cups need to be where all the top division teams enter, and the exception is Mexico. That's because there is no up in Mexico where all the teams enter, so we have to count the Mexican Cup.

The Leagues Cup only came into existence a few years ago, and it didn't occur to me that anyone would try to count it. The same would go for winning the cup where Scottish / Welsh and Irish teams all enter.

I know this must be frustrating because, having won the league, you may not be in the Mexican Cup. You may never have been in the Mexican Cup, and not being in a cup does present difficulties winning it. On the other hand, when you are in the cup, and the best teams aren't, it is somewhat easier.

I will edit the guidance in the 3rd post to clarify this. Sorry I didn't make it clearer before.

Paris Saint Germain: 2065/66 Review

After six success filled years with FC Porto I departed for France after receiving an offer to take charge of PSG. Perennial winners and mega rich, it was an opportunity I simply couldn’t turn down. Domestically they’ve dominated French football for a long time and I saw it as an opportunity to arrive and quickly win trophies. My aim was to come in and try to chalk off another league and domestic cup as quickly as possible. That being said, I attempted that in Portugal and it went on to take me five years to achieve. I arrived late in pre-season meaning that transfer activity was a little more difficult to conduct. We sold on a host of fringe players though, giving me the funds to bring in three new faces. The biggest was an £85,000,000 deal for Dutch midfielder Levi Bak from Benfica. He was a player I tried to sign with Porto and has since gone on to be one of the best players in world football. We parted with mega money, but his arrival was meant to provide us that final cog towards engineering big successes.

The success did flow early on in my reign, four days after my arrival in fact. Before we managed to even think of signing Levi Bak my side took on Lyon in the Trophee de Champions, the domestic super cup. We put in an unreal performance and won the game comfortably by a 4-0 score line. A first trophy of my time here and the perfect start to what would be a long season.

446630200_Ligue1Conforama_Stages.png.d10b1aedecbf1c061b383b95f6c452d8.png

The league title ended up being a real cakewalk, although for the first half of the season it didn’t seem like it. Despite flying through 15 games unbeaten we actually only sat a point ahead of Lyon at the midway stage. In the second half of the season we showed our quality though and at one stage climbed twelve points clear at the top. The title was sewn up with games to spare and my first season in charge culminated in the French league title with relative ease.

Chasing a league and cup double we breezed our way through the Coupe de France as well. We won our ties easily and avoided the big boys who all crashed out before the semi final stage. That left us in the final where we would face Nice for the opportunity to win the double and our third trophy of the season.

127490132_CoupedeFrance.png.a675209da33323724931a083ca607ea0.png

We suffered a humiliating 2-5 defeat away to Nice just four days prior to this final but bounced back in style. We took a first half lead and never looked back as we cruised to the trophy.

The Champions League turned out to be our only real disappointment this season as we missed out on the opportunity to win every competition that we entered. We got through our group easily enough, winning five and losing just once at home to Manchester City. My former club FC Porto awaited us in the First Knockout Round where we suffered a disappointing exit. We drew 0-0 away in the first leg and flew into an early two goal lead in the return game. We somehow managed to concede three goals in the last seven minutes though to lose out 2-3 on the night and on aggregate. A real disappointment.

I said I wanted a swift stop back in France and that’s exactly what I have managed to achieve. I was keen to win both the league and the domestic cup as soon as possible and in the end we did it with ease. Two more trophies ticked off and both in just the one season. Now I can hand in my resignation and look for a job either in Italy or England. There is also a World Cup this summer and so hopefully I can pick up a new role at international level as well. I’m still on the hunt for the Mexico job and with any luck it will become available during this close season. It could be a busy summer for me as I chase two new managerial roles to further my career even more. I’m kind of relieved to be done with France, and it’s fair to say this was one of my least enjoyable positions as manager. At one stage I was chasing a points target to keep my job, despite the fact we were nine points clear at the top of the league. That came about because I broke a promise to sell a player I didn’t want to sell. The whole situation seemed quite surreal, and it’s one reason why I won’t miss this club when I go.

* I feel like I've messed up my seasons somewhere or I've just forgotten to post about my international exploits whilst at Guanghzou but this should bring me up to date properly... well almost, I've always been a season or two ahead of updates, which has probably caused my own confusion, oh well *

1457710816_SouthAfricaJob2033.png.85ee73daa5770afbcf8632a49be1cee3.png

A couple months before the 2032 Chinese domestic season ended I had an opportunity to take charge of South Africa. They'd basically qualified for the African Cup of Nations which was only a handful of months away so I saw it as another opportunity to get this elusive title chalked off.

1522719163_SouthAfrica.png.9dc6df2f1d2cc74fed2b1fefcc8ed298.png

2032

South Africa were already top of their AFCON qualifying group by the time I took charge. We made it certain with wins over Libya (twice) and Mozambique before drawing our final group game against Algeria. We had also managed to take control of our World Cup qualifying group with wins over Zimbabwe and Nigeria... But back to the AFCON...

2033

We were drawn with Algeria, Zambia and Cameroon and were expected to reach the quarter finals. In our opener we beat Algeria 3-2, it was a frantic opening 12 minutes where we'd managed to take the lead, lose it and get back in front. We gave ourselves a slight cushion by grabbing a third only 21 mins into the game but that didn't last long as Algeria pulled one back in the 35th min. Surprisingly we held on to the victory!

We started the second game, against Zambia, brightly. Opening the scoring in the 4th min. But we were unable to take another of our plentiful chances and in typical fashion we conceded a late equaliser against the run of play.

Luckily for us, Cameroon had won both their matches thus far, which almost guaranteed our progression to the second round. It was a close run game, we fell behind after 22 mins but managed to get a goal back just before half time, unfortunately they got off to a flyer in the second half and went ahead within minutes of the restart and we just couldn't grab an equaliser. Despite this we did manage to qualify for the second round where we'd play Guinea.

I'm not sure what it is about the strikers I've had at my disposal whilst managing African teams, but they just don't seem to want to score for me. We absolutely hammered Guinea, but star striker, Onkabeste Sentle just didn't fancy sticking one in! Fair play to Guinea for taking their chances, they countered us well on a couple of occasions and made us pay for our sloppiness in front of goal. We ended up losing 3-1. All in all it was a poor showing and I was expecting the sack.

98085703_2033AFCON.png.48e111648a659c3a17a02e92c76253a6.png

The FA went easy on me, maybe because Guinea made it all the way to the final, but anyway they gave me a chance to get South Africa to the World Cup the following summer.

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - we were top of the league before a split for the last 5 games however a very poor run of consecutive draws meant Jeonbuk pipped us.  Annoyingly we broke this record.

KFA Cup - Fixtures - some consolation as we defeated Pohang Steelers (whom had won this three times in a row) to lift the cup

AFC Champions League - Fixtures - out before I joined with a poor defeat in the group stages

Finances - no problems here

Transfers - a bit of chopping and changing - there's limited foreign player slots so you have to be careful

Squad

Key players:

Lee Byung-Wook - good centre half from our youth system

Lee Gi-Yeol - another one from our youth system at right back

Kim Gun-Hee - experienced striker whom has been at the club for ages

Koya Kitagawa - prolific Japanese striker picked up on a free after spending time in Austria

Niccolo Fagioli - ex Juventus youngster signed on a free after his release from Sporting Lisbon

Park Hyun-Ho - another youngster, described as a centre half but a much better striker

Future - staying here until we win the Champions League

July 2066: Career Update

A successful campaign in France saw me crowned league champions as well as Coupe de France winners and saw me decide to walk away from my contract with Paris Saint Germain after just a year in charge. My period of unemployment after my resignation from Paris lasted a little over one month. Funnily enough I actually went on to end my international break too by picking up the next job in my international career.

580915609_KoreaTakeover.png.0d8f4ec2b2c2686066b57cf94df7f4c8.png

I return to a nation I have already managed during my long career. The opportunity came up at the end of the World Cup where South Korea had disappointed. The Asian Cup is upon us in the new year and so I felt this was the perfect opportunity to return to the international stage. Hopefully I can clinch that trophy and depart having achieved all I need to with an Asian side. I was surprised to be offered the job actually, believing that my previous stint may have ruined any opportunity for a renaissance.

Takeover.png.2069ed5d0014bc0d972806ab9ac94efe.png

My return to club management turns out to be in England and will give me my first crack at the Premier League. They haven’t won a league title for the past four seasons, but Liverpool are still very much one of the big players in English football. I had the opportunity to go to the club I support in arsenal, but my head ruled and with Liverpool I join a side capable of winning trophies. Arsenal need a complete rebuild and haven’t finished in the top-4 for the past eleven seasons. Liverpool finished 3rd last season and my arrival saw me handed a bumper war chest of £125,000,000 to spend on new arrivals. Hopefully I can clinch silverware with this side and make this a short stay as well.

South Korea: 2067 Asia Cup

The summer saw me take on two new managerial positions having resigned after a successful campaign in France with Paris Saint Germain. At club level I took charge of Liverpool and internationally I returned for a second spell at the helm of South Korea. With the Asia Cup taking place midway through the campaign I saw it as an opportunity to try and pick up another international trophy with one of the biggest sides in the competition. Previously I took South Korea to the final of the competition before disappointingly losing out to Australia. This time I hoped to chalk the trophy off and add it to my collection.

Before the tournament began in January though I had several opportunities to assess the squad with some friendly matches. First up was a double header with Peru and Brazil that went fairly well. We comfortably beat Peru 2-0 before losing to Brazil by the same score line. The Brazil game was actually cruel on us though as we had dominated the first half but just failed to find the net before slipping away in the second period. A month later we travelled to Uruguay and despite controlling large parts of the game we were beaten 1-3. Not the best start to my time here but I was still confident in our abilities to put up a good showing in a major tournament. A tournament South Korea had won three of the last four editions of, only failing in my previous attempt back in 2055.

The squad I opted to take contained few surprises although a couple of uncapped players were included for depth. The biggest fear was the fitness of Dortmund midfielder Lee Yong-Woo who went down with a hamstring strain just a month before my squad announcement. Thankfully the 30-year old was fit enough to be included, although we would have to make do without him for the first few matches of the tournament. Chelsea striker Jin Min would be our key man, the 30-year old needing to add to his 42 international goals if we were to enjoy a successful tournament in Qatar.

The Group Stage draw wasn’t a bad one for us, although we were joined by China who were one of the strongest teams in the tournament. Alongside them were Kuwait and Laos, with the latter being our opening opponents. China would be our second opponents before we would finish with the tie against Kuwait. Progression was expected and I was specifically interested in how we would get on against one of the real competitors for the tournament in the game against China.

Group.png.68f26046cf0560db2fc9cd308636fd3e.png

Unsurprisingly we opened up with a straightforward win over Laos. We scored twice in the opening ten minutes to settle any nerves before going on to record a 5-0 victory. The perfect way to open up our tournament. The game against China was immediately a sterner test, a tenth minute penalty seeing us fall behind and deservedly so. After spending much of the first half camped in our own half we levelled just before half time completely against the run of play. The second half was set up intriguingly, but ended up being a dull affair. Chances were few and fair between and the game finished 1-1. We went into the Kuwait game as clear favourites to win, but under a little bit of pressure. Kuwait had beaten Laos meaning we had to avoid defeat in order to qualify for the second round. Fortunately we took the pressure off by taking the lead in just the third minute of the game. We strolled on to a 4-0 victory and progression with ease into the knockout stages, and real hope of progressing a long way.

Tree.png.ef42c7dfbbe44f888bc36718ab9f4804.png

First up was Turkmenistan in a game we were clear favourites to progress in. It took us a while but once we made the breakthrough we breezed through to the quarter finals without a scare. 10-0 was way beyond anything I ever expected mind you. India were comfortably enough dispatched in the quarter finals before we took on China in the semi final and for the second time in the tournament. A 4-1 win looks comfortable but the game was actually anything but. In fact it was decided on penalties really. We missed an early one before conceding just before half time from a penalty. Two penalties early in the second half saw us turn the game around before we grabbed a couple of late goals to add gloss to a fine performance.

Ironically the final would see us play against Australia in a complete re-run of the final I lost during my first spell with the South Korea team. I was hoping that this time we could go one better and lift the trophy and help me on my personal quest to win major international tournaments.

Final.png.46c9e9d3c8362c40600365b6e1aa2a0a.png

The fact our opponents were Australia and the fact I had already lost in a final to them had me extremely nervous ahead of kick off for this one. Unsurprisingly we were favourites to win the game but I remember us being favourites last time and it didn’t count on the day. The first half was unsurprisingly tense, but we were the team asking all the questions. We created several decent opportunities but couldn’t find the goal. At 0-0 there really was all to play for in the final 45 minutes of the tournament. We finally got our reward five minutes into the second half when a glorious cross was nodded home by Chelsea man Jin Min. The goal didn’t change the pattern of the game though and we continued to control proceedings. Getting the second goal proved difficult though, not arriving til the very death of the match. A 2-0 win though and a trophy to lift.

Winning this tournament feels very important to me, making amends for losing this very competition years ago. Another trophy is chalked off for the challenge and with it my departure from my position. I hoped to arrive and win this trophy quickly and that’s exactly what I managed to do. I have resigned from my position in the celebrations and can now look for a new international position. I would still like the job with Mexico but for the time being I’ll take my time and focus on my role with Liverpool.

Liverpool FC: 2066/67 Review

My first season in charge in the Premier League was full of excitement and we entered it with high hopes of a positive campaign. In the end a season that promised so much turned into a season of disappointment as we consistently fell short throughout. I cleared a host of the squad upon arrival as well as grabbing a few new signings to add my stamp. Our biggest arrival was the £53,000,000 deal for holding midfielder Adrianinho but there was also a £35,000,000 deal for Antonio Bottini and a £21,000,000 signing of Maurice Graham from Celtic. Despite of those expenditures though we still managed to turn a profit in the market after shifting some big players out.

Table.png.718797974d5d1a85418dd44193d044e8.png

We didn’t suffer a league defeat until the 19th match of the season and to be honest really threw away our chance to win the title. Manchester City made a late burst of form and we fell short in the last few games. Late defeats to Manchester United and Everton ended up seeing us fall short and miss out on a title we really should’ve won. We led the table for most of the season but ended up having to settle merely for qualification for the Champions League.

Outside of the league our season followed a similar pattern. In the FA Cup we crashed out early after a shock 0-1 defeat away to Newcastle and the Champions League saw us crash out in the first knockout round. Having blitzed our group we drew 0-0 at home to PSG before losing 2-3 to a stoppage time goal away from home. So close but yet so far as my former side knock us out. The only bright spark was in the League Cup although that also ended in us falling short. We made it to the semi final stage before losing out to Arsenal over two legs. It was tight but we didn’t deserve to progress. Our conquerors went on to lift the trophy.

My first campaign in England draws to a close and leaves me with a real sour taste. We ended without a trophy and it’s kind of inexcusable. At one stage it looked like we could chalk of a league title and a cup competition but we ended up with neither. The league in particular hurt as we threw away a really good position with only a few games left to play. I shouldn’t be to disheartened though and hopefully a solid summer in the transfer market will help us to push on next season and win some competitions. We have a chance that’s for sure.

- REAL MADRID -

The Real Madrid job came available after they had a disappointing 6th place finish the previous season so we moved on from Bayern after one season where we won the League and the champions league.

COPA DEL REY

For some reason the cup final is being played at Sociedad's ground ?

image.png.92042213cf0648a010e095770803ae1c.png

Capitalized on them going down to ten but we were well on top before then. Great win against last years champions

EUROPA LEAGUE

image.png.fe762f6da09e13448622f0909a5e7038.png

Couldn't break Chelsea down over 2 legs and they won it late on at the Bridge. Sociedad win the whole thing

LA LIGA

image.png.615d4b7a6a0e60e1bb7556e07f22ea72.png

After winning my first 17 games in a row I couldn't see anything happening but a comfortable league title win.

Form turned a little after the winter break but to still not win the league on 97pts is pretty harsh. Sociedad went on a incredible run only dropping 2 points in their last 22 games to retain the title! Their main striker also managed to bang in 41 in 35 for the season! see below

After managing to survive the sack after the copa america final defeat last time out we managed to secure World Cup qualification with 4 games to spare.

WHAT'S NEXT

With the copa del rey secured full focus is on winning the league and toppling Sociedad, though that looks to be a tough task.

The financial situation at Madrid is perilous with the club 150m in the red. No prize money for league position or Champions League money last season on top of a 5.5m p/w wage bill has come home to roost. So there isn't a great deal of money to spend to improve the squad so we may have to hope Sociedad get raided from elsewhere to weaken them as the gap between us and the rest in the league is quite significant.

Now changed clubs from Rosario Central to Diego Maradonas Argentinos Juniors. Resigned from Nigeria job after loss in Africa Nations final on penalties.

I have now lost 3 club cup finals and 1 international cup final :seagull:

Very quick update from me with my first season at Man Utd.

A historic treble for the Red Devils, narrowly missing out on a quadruple with defeat in the FA Cup semi final to Liverpool on penalties.

This squad is insane. Rashford, Greenwood, Bruno and Shoretire are still hanging around, but as you can see I added Camavinga to the squad (£145m) and the 2027 Ballon d'Or winner Jeffrey van Amersfoort (£150m). These two have been worth the outlay despite us losing a Brazillian newgen AMC to Real Madrid for £180m. Along with these chaps, my defence boasts Kimmich, de Ligt, Upamecano, Kumbulla, Milenkovic, Reguilon. What was also nice to see is that two players I had during my tenue with Wolfsburg (Huarana and Williams) are also at United too!

No reason to leave at the moment - I want to win the FA Cup and we have my first real attempt at the Champions League to contend with. Although we only beat PSG in the Europa League final on penalties

As for summer dealings, we've snagged the European Golden Boy Eduardo Freitas from Porto for £60m, along with raiding two more players from the Primeira Liga. Juan Mendez, another Wolfsburg alumni, is also available on a free...

Now onward with Mexico for the summer!

(Aside, does the League Cup count for this challenge? I am fully aware the Europa League doesn't)

I have decided to give this challenge a go, after completing the Youth Challenge.

Below is my profile and the leagues I have loaded, attribute masking is on and editor is switched off. Let me know if there is anything else that needs confirming with the DB.

One thing I would like clarification on is the cups. I have seen that it says I need 10 domestic cups from 10 different countries. I have seen the clarification relating to some countries like South Africa and Mexico. However in England for example, saying I win the League Cup but not the FA Cup, would that mean that the domestic cup leg for England would be complete or would I need to win the FA Cup as it is the most reputable cup in the country?

In England the League Cup is fine. You need cups from 10 different nations, so if you win the FA Cup as well, all your English cups would only count as 1 towards the challenge.

Incidentally, people don't necessarily have to have the editor disabled. You can do non-cosmetic things like change the colour of your strips etc. I must admit, I don't usually bother to buy the editor myself just to make my teams play in bright pink.

Also, you can add and remove leagues as you go along.  You don't need to have them all loaded throughout. You can of course, but I'm not aware of any bugs that necessitate it.

The only thing about the database is whether you've added extra Asian players to ensure there's lots of Asian nations to manage later in the game. However, it seems that maybe in FM21 Asian nations give you more than one chance to manage them. I haven't done this challenge on FM21 but in previous versions Asian national FAs tended to only give you one chance.

Be interesting to see from all those options where you start.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Not added additional Asian players, hope I don't get caught out there, but we shall see.

SEASON 20 (2039-2040)

AC Milan

zdobycze.jpg.8e8ffa5983b1aa6bb9a4ac1301359d4a.jpg

The second season as Rossoneri's coach is behind me. Another season in which 90 points were not enough to become the Italian champion. 11 points behind Juventus, 20 points ahead of third-placed Inter. As you can see Juventus is so far out of reach, but really if it were not for 9! draws, the table would be different, the more so that I won 2 direct matches with the Italian champion. As a consolation, Coppa Italia managed to win, after a nice final match with Roma. The Champions League was completely forgiven by us, we took 3rd place in the group, so we had to struggle in the Europa League, but after 2 matches we ended our adventure. For the next season, my goal is to improve my attack performance as we had the best defense this year in the league. Now I am and the French UEFA Euro team are waiting for them, winning in their current form is our duty.

WINNER

A quick description of the European Championship, because I have to run for duty.

Group phase with no story:

1/8 finals against Italy also, although there were little nerves and it ended with extra time:

Quarterfinal against Wales was very pleasant:

The semi-final with Spain was very tough, especially after the red card in the 59th minute:

DESSEL SPORT (BELGIUM)

SEASON 1 - 2020/21

First Half of Fixtures | Second Half of Fixtures |  League Table | Promotion Playoff Table | Transfers | Squad

Top Players: Alessandro Cerigioni | Ratko Vansimpsen | Jari Breugelmans | Kristiaan Haagen | Wim Kustermans

At first we were unable to get a job. We had a few interviews in South Africa but they did not go anywhere and we reject invitations from the lower reaches of England and Romania, and even Belgium. But I re-evaluated things and I thought it was probably best if I got some of my badges done which should improve my standing marginally and make me more attractive to clubs. Therefore when Dessel Sport came in for us in the Nationale 1 of Belgium (Third tier), we decided to take up the job. The season had only started in September and we were in early October, so there was no lasting damage done, but the club were in the relegation places after 5 games and out initial task was to undo the damage to morale. We did not get a win from our first three games in charge, but once we did, it was the rest of Belgium was trying to stop a freight train and we started to win game after game, before breaking the wins in a row record and unbeaten record, on course to a 1st place finish in the regular season. We finished equal on points with Francs Borains, but we had a better goal difference.

In Belgium however, the league winner does not get automatic passage to the next division and instead we had to play our a round robin of 4 teams to see who would be promoted, at least we retained half the points we started with, so we started equal with Francs Borains and ahead of Rupel Boom and Liege. We made very light work of the first four fixtures in the Promotion phase smashing Liege and Rupel Boom and beating Francs Borain, to put us on the precipise of promotion, but a loss away to Francs meant that it went down the final fixture. We were away at Rupel Boom, they were away at Liege and a point for us would be enough but if we lost and Francs won then we would be denied promotion. Fortunately we got our part done and Francs messed up their part and we were promoted.

In terms of performers, the two strikers should take most of the plaudits. Cerigioni and Vansimpsen put on a clinic upfront as we took most of our chances and made sure that most games we coasted past the opposition on our goalscoring threat. Transfers were a minor part, in fact the only thing we did in the transfer market was make one sale of a bit part player, the rest was already there when we arrived. Next season we will be playing in Proximus League, provided a better job does not come up.

On the badge front we managed to get the National C Licence before our finances turned sour and the board are refusing the sanction the next course so that is not helpful for my long term aspirations, but I will have to live with that. Realistically being as Dessel is not helping me complete this challenge but it is a start to building a reputation and that really was what this was about.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

Not added additional Asian players, hope I don't get caught out there, but we shall see.

Proves how lazy I was to not search for @vikeologistpost re League Cup.

Chalk me up to 13 trophies. I know the UEFA Nations League doesn't count to the challenge but I added for completeness.

Shame the Europa League doesn't either!!
