DSTV Premiership ~ CAF Champions League ~ Nedbank Cup ~ Telkom Knockout ~ MTN 8

So we had a great season I really thought we were going to win it all. The league was my main focus though as it was the last thing I needed to win in South Africa. After 20 games I really believed we were going to go unbeaten but it wasn't to be. I had a little scare at the end of the January transfer window though as two of our best players had their release clauses matched the day after our transfer window closed with Jhilmar Elias and Cristian Bengua joining PSG and RC Lens respectively. I'm a little gutted by the Elias Transfer as he was a player I wanted to take with me where ever my next journey was, I will team up again with him some day. I feel I've set this club up well for the future too renewing the loan deals in the squad and securing some of the top talent in South Africa.

JOB OFFER

Crowy_-Inbox47d735c663d81e90.png Crowy_-Inbox-244ef44d69f13de4d.png

Derby offered me a job interview sitting bottom of the Premier League and I had the interview with them. I told them I'd take offer at the end of the World Cup 2026 and they still offered me the job. I don't think I'm ready to go to England yet though so decided to turn them down and wait to decide my next step. They did end up going down 3points from safety.

I'm not sure which part of the challenge I want to tackle next but I'll be resigning from Cape Umoya United FC immediately and will start searching for my next job. I will also set South Africa as view only so I can keep and eye on the club and will help with the speed of the save.

Czech Republic 0 - 2 Nigeria ~ Nigeria 6 - 0 Curacao

Fairly straight forward group stage was expecting more of a challenge from the Czech's but they never looked like threatening in our game. Curacao are surprisingly rant 55th in the world I was expecting them to be much lower than that but we done a professional job on them.

Second Round

Was very pleased to get past Mexico as we spent over an hour with 10 men. I made a few changes to hit them on the counter and thankfully we got a second before half time. I went more defensive in the second half with the 2 goal cushion than I would of at 1-0. They pulled one back but we managed to hang on.

Third Round

How this game went to penalties I'll never know Croatia had 3 shots to our 24, in saying that though we didn't really create anything clear cut but we were trying to win the game more than Croatia. I felt the better team on the day went through. On to the Quarters!

I can't fault this team on this World Cup campaign they were competitive the whole way through, we were just as good as Italy on the day but they had the quality to take the chance when they got it. We threw everything at them in the last 15 minutes too but they managed to hold on.

GUANGZHOU FC

2026

League Table ~ Squad ~ Finances

So my next move is to Guangzhou FC, my first choice was River Plate but the decided on Hernan Crespo. Sadly Zuangzhou are out of all the cups so it is just the league to focus on my main aim will obviously be to qualify for the AFC Champions League and look to develop the squad a little now and more at the end of the season. Also having a proper look at the league table we can perhaps go on to win the league if my good form with this tactic I made in a private save with Sheffield FC works in China.

Juventus: 2069/70 Review

After a promising first season that saw us compete on several fronts this season was all about continuing that. Lazio shocked everybody to win the Serie A title last time around, but I was hoping we could put ourselves firmly in the mix again. Especially having spent a small fortune in the summer transfer market. Funnily enough our best signing ended up being young striker Ernesto Palmeiro who actually arrived from Benevento on a free transfer. He scored 21 league goals during an impressive breakthrough season for us.

12264850_SerieA.png.91d426e04797d83afee4ffe5542094e3.png

We bounced back from a slow start to shock everybody and end the campaign as league champions. I never expected it, especially after losing three of our opening six matches. In fact we never got to top spot until the 35th match day where four teams were within a victory. We end the campaign with less points and goals than last season but finishing off higher in the table. We struggled a bit more for goals this season and creatively we started to suffer as well. Veteran Nigel Harms (a four time player of the year winner) didn’t live up to his hype and experienced Jurg Vuichard was nowhere near as prolific as last season.

Outside of the league things went pretty well really. Although saying that we actually crashed out of the Champions League in the group stage. That gave us the opportunity to put together a really good run in the Europa League. We played fringe players all the way through the knockouts, including during an impressive win over Inter Milan in the quarter finals. We destroyed Atalanta in the semis and then would face surprise package Red Star Belgrade in the final.

335330559_EuropaLeague.png.2ffb8935a124414413c566ed1b7a4e9c.png

The final was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. We controlled large portions of the game but to be fair our opposition did really well to keep us from getting away from them. I thought that would happen when we took the lead on half hour but we were pegged back again just seven minutes later. It was 1-1 at the half time whistle although I still expected us to go on and finish the job. We were much more creative in the second period, as well as during the extra time period too. Somehow we just couldn’t take a chance though. Defensively we were more than solid enough but it looked like we were going to be left short and have to take a penalty shoot out. Then with just a minute of extra time remaining we were given a penalty and the opportunity to win the trophy. Young substitute Giovanni Foggia stepped up and rattled the net to send out fans wild.

Domestically we did well enough. Firstly we would play league holders Lazio in the Italian Super Cup, where we were definitely competitive. We ended up losing out 0-1 in a real even affair, after conceding in the 86th minute. A 10-1 aggregate thumping of Napoli proved a real highlight of our season as we navigated our way to a fourth straight COPPA Italia final. Lazio would be our opponents in what would be a really intriguing matchup.

860354495_CoppaItalia.png.b0ee04de30b20861ce35f77941daad58.png

After falling behind a mere four minutes in I had real worries. Those worries proved I necessary as we turned the game around and then controlled proceedings through to the final whistle. A second crown in a row for me and a fourth in succession for the club.

So we complete what was needed in Italy and we do it a year sooner than I had expected us to. Right up until the end of the season I was sure we were going to fall short in the league race and so to do it has really left me surprised. I had actually already started planning for another season with this club. There will be a bit of a flurry of departures this summer as I look to clear some of the older players out. Club legend and one of the worlds best ever players Nigel Harms is one who will definitely be departing. The 35-year old had a slow campaign and I didn’t offer him a deal to stay in Turin. Arrival wise I have already confirmed we’ve a huge one and it’s to replace Harms in the heart of the midfield. 22-year old Liverpool man Antonio Bottini is arriving in an £80,000,000 plus a player dealing. I signed him during my time at Liverpool and I’m really excited to bring him into this club. At this stage I’ll start looking at my next managerial move though. For now I shift interest to the World Cup, where I’m about to lead my USA side. Hopefully we can put up a good enough showing that I can keep my job ahead of next years Gold Cup, a trophy I still need to win.

USA: 2070 World Cup

The immediate aftermath of my success with Juventus was painful as I chose to resign from my position as manager and look for a new job back in the Premier League. It was a tough decision to make though, having already confirmed a couple of really exciting transfers to take place this summer. I had achieved all I needed to in Italy though, so moving on was definitely the right decision for my career. Whilst I waited on the lookout for a new club position my focus had to move and target onto the World Cup with my USA side.

My time with the USA was all about the Gold Cup next summer really, but before that I would take my squad to South Africa for a shot at the World Cup. My time in charge had been pretty good, although we did lose a friendly match after proving so impressive during the World Cup qualifiers. In fact the USA have now gone 48 matches without defeat in said qualifying campaigns.

I named a squad with a few surprises as I left out a number of the more experienced heads to focus on bringing in new players for the future. That certainly didn’t mean that our squad was weakened, but ranked 12th in the world I wasn’t full of confidence in our chances of a good campaign. For me it was about doing enough at the World Cup to keep my position ahead of the Gold Cup in twelve months time.

Before the main tournament kicked off we would play a couple of warm up friendly matches in order to get our squad up to speed and get some game time into the players. Firstly we completed a very good 2-1 turnaround victory over Norway, before thumping Algeria 4-0 just three days later. The perfect preparation.

1825250972_GroupTable.png.9b6db9ecbbd1fd623c9335bf6d44773f.png

We opened our account with a truly shocking display against Ukraine. We took an early lead but we’re dominated for the rest of the contest. We conceded an equaliser late on and somehow managed to take a 1-1 draw. A 6-0 destruction of Syria was up next and booked us our spot in the knockout stages. By reaching the Second Round we had achieved the targets set out prior to the tournament, and we went better than that. Despite falling behind early we put in a really good display to beat 19th in the world Guinea Bissau to reach the Third Round. We were fortunate that Canada had shocked Argentina setting up a very winnable contest for us.

Knockouts.png.95b2e2ea8d12e4d66b606bd2904797d4.png

We weren’t at our best in seeing of the Canadians but we managed to do it and reach the Quarter Finals stage. Our fairytale came to an end against Brazil, although we did put in a very good performance to run them close. A narrow defeat saw us eliminated but we had done our nation proud in what was a real dream run.

My first major tournament with the USA was a successful one as we achieved more than anybody thought that we would. We were never amongst the discussions to win the tournament but all that mattered for me was to perform well enough to keep my job ahead of next summers Gold Cup. We managed to do that and o can now spend the next year preparing a squad capable of competing for that tournament. I did put my name in the hat to return to the vacant role at Mexico, but they turned me down. It’ll be my job to try and overthrow them in next summers tournament. For now my focus turns to trying to pick up a new position at club level. I’m aiming to head for England but as of yet there has been no available position. I thought the role with Chelsea may have become available after a mediocre season, but so far there has been no luck. I will just have to remain patient for now.

AFCON 2025

We came into our first International tournament on the back of some excellent form. With 12 wins from our first 13 games as Cameroon manager. Although we were the 6th best ranked African team I was quietly optimistic about our chances.

We were put in a decent group including reigning champions Ivory Coast.

1909293935_AfricanCupofNations_Stages-2.thumb.png.8c9c2b0e430c9ad58237d764f9df3981.png

A pretty untroubling group stage saw us win all 3 games with a minimum of fuss.

---------------------------------

Round of 16

Our round of 16 match pitted us against Congo. We ran out easy 3-0 winners to set up a quarter final tie with Ghana.

-----------------

Quarter Finals

I was expecting a tough match but we beat them 3-0, thanks to a penalty saving, man of the match performance from our captain and world class Gk Onana. I was really starting to believe.

There was a shock in the other quarter final as unfancied South Africa knocked out giants Nigeria to set up a semi final with Cameroon.

-----------------

Semi Finals

It's strange how these things happen as we go up against the country of our employment, South Africa who called up 6 of our Sundowns players. My club players are good but they're not £60m Cameroonian wonderkid good like Moukoko or £58m world class GK good like Onana. I was confident.

We went down 2-0 and I thought the dream was over. We threw everything at them and eventually managed to take the game to ET, where we hit a deserved late winner to send us into the final.

-------------------------

Final

We were slight favourites with the bookies heading into the final against hosts Guinea, who boast an excellent midfield including Naby Keita and Sevilla's Mady Camara.

Our hopes were dashed after 23 minutes due to a needless red card. Our tournament was over. Silver medalists.

Everything conspired against us in the final. From playing the hosts to the early red card, to a kick off goal immediately after we took the lead, to the late missed pen, and then finally to the inevitable extra time goals. I'm absolutely gutted as we would've easily won with 11 men.

-----------------------------------

The Nigeria job is available but I think I'll wait untill after the upcoming World Cup and see what's available then.

Another domestic title, this marks our second one for the challenge and we absolutely walked the league, alsmost going invincible. but we had a 'major dip' in the final stretch of the league. And with major dip I mean two losses and a bunch of draws. Those two losses were the only two the entire campaign. Part of this was probably our early knock out of the cup where I rotated youngsters in, and the fact we didn't play in the continental cup this season. Our key player Derry Drajad wasn't even present at our championship game, because of fatigue he was on a holiday. Fun fact I scouted Drajad when I was at Cape Town Spurs, but we had too many foreigners already but he looked amazing so he was the first signing, weirdly he had no club for the last three seasons, but was stubborn enough to refuse to retire.

Next Season we're hopefully be as sucessful in the Asian Champions League as we were in the league this season..

USA: 2071 Gold Cup

So a whole season passed without me picking up a club job, meaning I could focus on my America squad ahead of the Gold Cup. I have now been employed at club level, but for now I’ll leave that as a surprise. For now my focus was on the Gold Cup in our own nation and trying to chalk off another major tournament as an international manager. Preparations for said tournament actually went pretty well. Over the season we picked up friendly wins over Australia, Cameroon and China as well as picking up a highly respectable draw against Columbia. These results came despite trying to bring through some new faces and blood some young talent in place of some of the older heads. We named a squad with a number of surprises in it, but we had high hopes for a successful campaign. Winning the tournament would prove difficult though. Mexico had won the last eight editions and in all fairness were probably our only competition. With how the draw went we would avoid them all the way to the final, if we were to get that far.

We saw off Honduras in a warm up friendly 4-1 before we entered the tournament proper. Preparations couldn’t have gone any better, and now it was time to get down to serious business. There was an excitement amongst myself and the squad as well as the nation. Being host nation would surely give us an edge and an advantage with playing in front of our own fans.

1375687442_GroupStage.png.dfa335360294163703f6534a344830c9.png

Three wins and three clean sheets. Plenty of goals scored and unsurprisingly we progressed as group winners. I always expected to do so, I just didn’t expect to do it so emphatically. We opened with a second string side but managed to comfortably beat Guyana by a 2-0 score line. Next up we smashed Martinique 7-0 before picking up a pleasing 3-0 victory over Haiti to win the group. That put us into the Quarter Finals and the beginning of the tournament proper for us.

Knockouts.png.5bb2a76a199d2c78e6d229920a16acbb.png

Guatemala were no match for my side as we smashed our way through to a semi final against Canada. I expected a tough contest but we scored an early goal and to be honest the victory was never in doubt. They pulled a late goal back to give us a nervy few minutes but we held firm to book our spot. As expected Mexico cruises through their side of the draw as well setting up a huge contest and a replay of the last edition of this trophies final. Trying to put an end to Mexico’s dominance in this competition would definitely prove difficult and I certainly didn’t expect us to actually go on and win the game.

After a tentative start we had a glorious opportunity to take the lead on 15 minutes when we were given a rather generous penalty. The prolific striker Tom Prideaux stepped up but had his kick turned round the post to keep it at 0-0. We had begun to grow into the game though and I could see confidence beginning to build amongst my players. The longer we could keep ourselves in the game the happier I was about our chances. Just as I was beginning to feel happy at going in at half time goalless we managed to break the deadlock. A clinical counter attack ended at the feet of winger Dean Dilts who slid a finish beyond the keeper for his 50th international goal and potentially his most important. The whistle blew shortly after and we headed in at the break a goal to the good.

Immediately from the restart we were under pressure though. It took just eight minutes for us to concede and yet again the nerves came flooding back. The game had been pretty even up until that point, but at that stage I started to worry that their winning experience would condemn us to defeat. That goal seemed to spark us though and we created some really good chances. The introduction of winger Marian Todoran made the real difference. A ball was whipped in and fell to him at the far post. He made no mistake and smashed us back into the lead with a composed finish. We were 2-1 up with a little over 25 minutes left to play. As the clock carried on ticking the nerves started to grow to new highs. We looked solid enough at the back but had lost our attacking threat at the other end. Clinging on became our only target and we seemed to be doing so pretty comfortably. As the Mexicans started throwing bodies forward we started to look nervous at the back. The counter attack began to become an option though and suddenly we were getting a little joy in attack. Four added minutes were signalled and I was desperately hoping we could see out a truly remarkable victory. It looked like it could’ve got better deep into stoppage time when Dilts had a glorious chance to kill the game but when he smashed his effort wise we still had a couple of minutes to hold on. Thankfully we managed it though and held on to win the game 2-1 and lift the Gold Cup.

Celebrations.png.aaab9c87fe8f3de18485909fcf8cdf68.png

A remarkable tournament comes to an end, and with another trophy chalked off for the challenge. I didn’t expect us to lift the trophy one bit seeing as Mexico really had a stranglehold on this tournament. I always fancied us to go a long way though and desperately hoped we could avoid Mexico until the final. To play them in a one off final in our home country definitely gave us an opportunity and thankfully it was one that we took. I’m now left unsure what to do in regards to international management though. The Copa America is my next target but in truth I don’t see me lifting it with this USA squad. I may try to jump back to Mexico if they sack their manager after this defeat. Other than that I’m just after the European Championships, but would prefer to leave that until last if I’m honest. For now I’m going to hand in my resignation with USA though and look to focus on my brand new club position.

Career Update: July 2071

In a move that will shock @TheRegista and maybe a few others, my new club is one that I can’t help but despise in real life. As a lifelong Gooner the decision for me to take over the position at Tottenham was a difficult one, but definitely the right choice for my managerial career. Of late my career has seen me jumping from club to club regularly and I feel the need to spend a few years somewhere trying to build something of a dynasty. For that reason I decided to take this job on as they finished 6th in the Premier League last season and some way off the pace of the leaders.

For me it was important to get the decision right for my next club. I waited an entire season for the right opportunity to arise and I feel like it definitely has with this club. Tottenham have finished in the top-4 just once in the last ten league campaigns and success has been somewhat of a rarity. There was an FA Cup victory in 2069 as well as the Europa League in the same season, but other than that it’s been slim pickings. I’m hoping that my arrival can spark something of a success story. I don’t mind spending a few years here and trying to build my own squad and style to gain that success. Off the field the infrastructure is in place to make this club one of the big sides in Europe, and I’ve been given a pretty decent budget to bring in new faces. I’m not expecting instant success by any means, but I am confident that I can take this side forwards over the next few years.

Season 5 2024/25

Another very inconsistent season saw us win 1 trophy and finish runner-up in 4 more, silver medals in the league, KO Cup, Champions League and ACON.

Too many of our players 'dread big matches' and it shows. I've transfer listed half of the team and I'm starting fresh with young, hungry players. Hopefully everyone can bed in quickly so we can win the Champions League and Cup.

449929313_MamelodiSundownsFootballClub_Competitions.thumb.png.5ecd7a9c5cbf551e049cf206713d150f.png

So another year in South Africa it is. I'm determined to make amends next season, if I'm still in the job.

-----------------------------------

In the league a very strong Cape Town City won the league. Our 67 point haul would've won the season at a canter the previous 5 seasons, but we couldn't keep up with them, despite of the heroics of our star striker who hit an incredible 56 goals, won several awards and broke several records, and he only cost us 58k! We'd be lost without him.

He was also named in the African team of the year alongside Sadio Mane!

---------------------------

Cape Town City also thumped us inexplicably 5-0 in the KO final and undeservedly beat us in ET of the Champions League final. We didn't lose a game in the competition prior to the final.

They're starting to annoy me.

Untitled.png.4a8880fac7855de51bf932314137ce5c.png

-------------------------------------------------

After I'd sold half my team we found ourselves in the World Club Championships.

I'm not sure how but safe to say we lost both of our games against Boca and Liverpool.

A silly error by me as I should've seen we were taking part.

------------------------------------------------------

On a personal note, I completed the continental C licence.

So instead of crossing 4 of the 32 trophies needed, we're still at just the 1.

SEASON 23 (2042 - 2043)

Paris Saint-Germain

868.png

puchary.jpg.51dacc6715c59a42330b9c90aecb2eca.jpg

Good morning, surprise. AS Monaco contacted me, but I took advantage of the better offer and became a PSG coach. What a season it was. Virtually unlimited budget, great footballers, great training staff. There was no option called failure. We dominated Ligue 1 (36W, 2D, 0L, +129 GA), the French Cup (6W, +31 GA), the UEFA Champions League (9W, 4D, 0L, +21 GA) and added the French Super Cup to that. I'm approaching the end, so I'll do a bigger summary after winning the last two cups with national teams.

Results: Chinese Super League

Just a quick update for this season as I've only been in charge for 16 games, we had an excellent ending to the season and in fact should have gone on to win the league. if you look at our game before last we played the league leaders and took a 3-0 lead when they managed to turn it around and get a 3-3 draw. I wasn't necessarily focused on the league too much this year I've done a ton of scouting and have a big overhaul happening in January with our foreign players leaving and I have 7 or 8 players ready to come in. I still need another 5 or 6 players to get where I want to be but having problems with the wage caps trying to sign young Chinese players.

NIGERIA

AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS 2027

Group Stage

Spoiler

African-Cup-of-Nations_-Stages8b687489bd

Results: Nigeria 2 - 1 Cape Verde ~ DR Congo 0 - 1 Nigeria ~ Kenya 0 - 4 Nigeria

We had a pretty poor showing in the group stage we managed to win all our games but two of them were by such a slim margin. We needed a 90th minute penalty v Cape Verde and we narrowly beat Congo 1-0. We were dominant in all games but creating clear cut chances seemed a problem due to the amount of long shots we were taking. Cue a slight tweak with the tactic instructions to try and limit them a little more. I think it's much harder to control at international level as you can't train players traits etc.

Second Round

Spoiler

African-Cup-of-Nations_-Fixtures--Result

In the second round we faced Mali. Things didn't get off to the best of starts again as we found ourselves 1-0 down fairly quickly. When you have arguably the best team in the tournament though we managed to turn it around before half time and made sure the job was done in the second half.

Quarter Final

Spoiler

African-Cup-of-Nations_-Fixtures--Result

A much more professional performance this one Algeria barely had look in and we saw them off fairly comfortable 2-0. I was hoping to to meet Tunisia in the latter stages of this tournament who beat me in the final two years ago, however the current holders didn't even make it through the group stage.

Semi Final

Spoiler

African-Cup-of-Nations_-Fixtures--Result

Next up South Africa very similar to the Algeria game, could have perhaps been a little more clinical but I will take a dominant performance and a 2-0 every day of the week. Next up in the final is pretty much what everyone usually expects in these tournaments it was Ivory Coast rank 13 in the world 1 places behind us.

Final

Spoiler

African-Cup-of-Nations_-Fixtures--Result

We managed to save our best performance for last, we were much more clinical like I was hoping for but I wasn't expecting to be this clinical in the first half. We obviously faded off in the second half but overall I was pleased with this result.

I'm pleased to tick off an International Tournament it took me till 2041 last year as I wasn't that focused on it, I'll probably look to move on to a Mexico type team next who can win the Copa America and the Gold Cup and I could also attempt the World Cup even though that one is very unlikely.

My plan is to try and build up reputation/badges around Europe and then do the top 5 leagues before going on a global road trip..........

Hi Guys,

I've been giving this a go this year but has anyone noticed an issue with added leagues not becoming playable?

I started the challenge in Europe and had no issues adding/removing leagues within Europe but when I tried to move to a different coefficient (in this case adding USA and Mexico as playable) the game just skipped past the league start date without adding them.

Has anyone else encountered this or is it something I'm doing incorrectly in setup? Wasn't sure if you have to add in at least one nation from each coefficient at start of the game to be able to activate others further down the line?

Thanks!

There seems to be a bug where when you try to add a new nation / league, it doesn't happen if / when you leave the game. If this is happening to you, play through the league 'start' date. For instance Argentina's load date is June 24th (or thereabouts), so if you're adding the Argentina league, make a note to ensure it's added on about the 22nd and then play through a few days till it becomes active. Then you should be ok.

Season 2020/21 Review - Cape Town Spurs

League - Going into the season I knew we were probably the best side in the league (partly why I wanted this job) and we were, we should have won the league more comfortably than we did but after a strong start we developed this annoying combination of not taking our chances and giving up easy goals - we actually underperformed our attacking xG and conceded more than we should have. We did win the league though and that was the target.

Cup - this might be the toughest cup run I've ever had. We played (and beat) the current league and cup holders, the biggest side in the country and the league winners this season before losing to Orlando Pirates in the semi final. This run does give me hope we can compete after promotion though

Transfers - pretty much all done before I took over. I brought no one in as we were overspending on wages already

Finances -   awful, even for this level. So bad that we couldn't offer any new contacts past the end of this season till they were in the final 3 months of their contracts, as a result we will be losing a lot of our best young players this summer which is bloody annoying

Squad - small squad as that's what we had, plan was to bring on the young players but yeah. as said, we've lost a lot of them this summer so feels like a big rebuild is needed this year so we'll see how it goes

Key Players

Riyaad Norodien - wide man and long shot king. 12 goals and 9 assists
Abendingo Mosiatlhaga - man on the other wing was also dangerous with 7 goals and 9 assists
Thobani Mncwango - main man up top. 27 goals. Old though so will likely be replaced over the summer as have a couple good young forwards in the wings.

This feels a little weird but at the end of each season I like to have a little look around at the jobs and this summer both SuperSprt United and Kaizer Chiefs jobs were open, me being me I applied for both, Chiefs didn't even let me interview but SuperSport did and then they offered me the job. Twice the wage budget and a transfer budget of nearly 500K (Cape Town was only 17K0 after they finished 3rd last season. I took it but feels a but soon?

Tottenham Hotspurs: 2071/72 Review

Well my high hopes for success with Tottenham didn’t go to plan and come the end of March I resigned from my position as manager of the club. My contract was up at the end of the campaign but it was still a really disappointing end to a journey I had hoped would be very successful. I had attended a meeting just a few days earlier and begged for my position before resigning after a defeat to Manchester United saw us eliminated from the FA Cup at the Quarter Final stage. I was left frustrated as we had crashed out of the Europa League just four days earlier after an away goals defeat to Atletico Madrid in the second knockout round. We had also lost out earlier in the season to Manchester City in the quarter finals of the League Cup. That one was particularly painful as we led 1-0 after 89 minutes before conceding twice in stoppage time. On top of that our league form had also proven disappointing.

903159139_DepartureTable.png.f772ba67b188705f28ae60600b882e28.png

My arrival here saw me tasked with trying to qualify for the Champions League with a top-4 finish. In truth we started slowly and never managed to get ourselves in contention. That coupled with all the disappointing cup exits meant the rest of the campaign was meaningless and so I opted to walk away before I was pushed. Now the hunt is on to pick up a new job ahead of next season. I definitely want to remain in the Premier League though.

I think it is due to South Africa's reputation being fairly low it's not like you're leaping from the 2nd division in South Africa to the English Premier League. I wouldn't say it's too soon. Good Luck in the job!

Manchester City Takeover: December 2072

I was out of work for the majority of the remainder of the year before picking up a truly unbelievable opportunity. When the Manchester City job became available I quickly applied and was offered the position. It’s been four years since they’ve win the Premier League, but it’s a club built for success and one I was hoping would become my next.

1072325913_TakeoverTable.png.34b894f0bfe67c4dd432b8cd78ce2604.png

It's fair to say that things this season really haven’t gone well though, with a really tough start to the campaign. Winning the league looks highly unlikely, especially considering the impressive form of my last club Tottenham. The board only ask for a mid table finish but I’m definitely hoping for more. The squad here is more than able of climbing the league table quickly and personally I’m aiming to try and creep into the top four and clinch Champions League football again. Speaking of European competition I join with the team sat 2nd in their group. A win in the final game will see us qualify for the knockout stages. There’s also a League Cup quarter final against Everton pretty soon. I’m hoping to pick up a trophy and build the squad ready to push back towards the top during next season. For now the focus is just on winning games and climbing the table as quickly as possible.

Yeah, also assuming our run to the cup semi final, beating 3 top sides along the way, maybe gave me a short term rep boost in order to get the job.

FC Seoul 2028

Table | Squad

Once again we became champions, but we struggled way more than last season. Another early exit in the cup and almost a massacre (0-4 loss in the first leg, 0-1 in the second) in the Asian Champions League. This sees to me the team is regressing. Add losing players because the board can't refuse the price and a couple military call ups to that and I'm losing hope we'll get the CL in South Korea. I will stay here for the time being, but added more leagues, so I have the option to build elsewhere, like China, or maybe even South America. I was just gutted after facing Beijin Guoan..

Season 6 2025/26

Another absolute heartbreak of a season. I only needed the Champions League and FA Cup to 'complete' Africa, and things were going well, until the penultimate month of the season.

First we disappointingly lost 1-0 to Kaiser Chiefs in the quarter finals of the FA cup.

Then 3 weeks later the real gut punch:

We knocked out arch rivals and reigning champs Cape Town City in the quarter finals of The African Champions League.

Then we beat Tunisian champions and previous winners ES Tunis 4-1 in the first leg of the semi finals. I thought this was our year.

We then managed to lose 3-0 to a team we played off the park a week previous and out we went on away goals.

Untitled2.png.b13387519b4dc0b9e313bc04dbed4dd8.png

To compound things even further, we lost the league on goal difference.

At the end of an already long season, they scheduled 4 games in 8 days, 2 of which were against our rivals.

Untitled.png.44ba3be9f7eadf8defd3d1da4530a498.png

2 seasons running we've broken the divisional record for most points without winning the league. 67 last season and 70 this season.

We only lost 5 games all season and only won 1 trophy from 5.

-------------------------------------

We did win the KO cup, which has taken our South African trophy haul to 5, but we're still 2 away from completing this chapter of the mission.

Chinese Super League

Board Expectation: Challenge for the Title | Winners!

Chinese-Super-League_-Stagesfc1508011462

(Super League Results)

After spending the second half of last season just scouting players and almost winning the league from where we were, I was confident coming in to this season. I refreshed our foreign players for some younger players and they duly delivered. I was reunited with Jhilmar Elias on loan as my first signing but regardless of my foreign imports, Zhou Lingwei impressed me the most. I found China quite easy to be honest I found it incredibly easy to pick up good Chinese players at the end of their contract which gave me the chance to rotate my squad throughout the year. I think I will look to move on to Europe after I complete Asia for something a little more challenging.

AFC Champions League

Board Expectation: Reach Second Round | Winners!

AFC-Champions-League_-Stagesecf2739ecd3d

(AFC Champions League Results)

So we were dealt a fairly difficult group in regards to reputation in the Champions League and I felt that would be the test to gauge how well we would do in this tournament. I felt even without the foreign players we had a good Chinese core to our team which helped me when it come to registration rules and squad rotation. I was able to use our Chinese team in the league with a couple of the foreign players in there to sure it up and use my main team in the Champions League. We went on to win it fairly comfortably, thanks to our home form especially in the latter stages of the tournament.

Chinese FA Cup

Board Expectation: Reach Final | Winners!

(Chinese FA Cup Results)

We went on to make it a clean sweep and win the treble in our first full year in China. I know I was the biggest club in China and are expected to win trophies, but we cruised through this season. I'm looking forward to something a little more challenging at my next club!

League Table ~ Squad ~ Finances

And last but not least our new club is Lyon, looking at the squad it is decent but it's old and some are on high wages. I think in France I managed PSG last FM so this FM I'd like to knock them off their perch! The Champions League is almost certainly out of reach this year and the Europa League will be a tough ask also. So as I did at the beginning of Zangzhou I'm just going to spend the rest of this season clearing out some deadwood and focus on scouting and signing players to improve this squad.

2034/35

1210674636_CruzAzul.jpeg.762cc864fbbaaba6728ed5e4b80464ed.jpeg

So I took the job at Cruz Azul, a step back but one I needed for the challenge. I saw the transfer window was shutting so I bought in a bunch of players quickly. Turns out that was just the Mexican window and not for foreign players, lesson learnt.

We had a good side so I was feeling very confident.

League Opening Stage- I started the season on fire with 9/9. Had a mid season slump and finished 2nd two points behind Pumas. Doesn’t really matter at this stage, won my QF easily before drawing Pumas in the SF. I thought coming 2nd would have its advantage but evidently not. The first leg was a classic with me scoring late to draw 2-2. The second leg was tense and honestly nothing was happening until my RB scored a screamer to give me the lead. I held on to book my place in the final and more importantly CL qualification. The final was two 2-1 wins against Chivas.

Closing Stage- Finished top of the pile for this stage. I drew Chivas in the QF but won pretty easily despite me thinking they were the 3rd best side in the comp. I drew Pumas in the SF, the team I considered 2nd best. The first leg I lost 1-0 and didn't play well. We blew them away in the return leg and won 3-1 . Having got rid of the two best sides the final was a cruise as I won 3-1 on aggregate and never looked like losing and that got me my 2nd league title of the season.

Mexican Cup- got through the group easy enough. Again I had Chivas in this but they got 2nd place. The competition was pretty weak and was made weaker with Chivas being knocked out in the first knockout round. Despite this I made it difficult for myself as I needed pens to win in the first knockout. I drew the first leg in the QF but from there I was never in doubt as I blew away the opposition to take the trophy home. Good thing as well as I won't be in the cup next year.

710006686_ScreenShot2021-08-08at1_59_16pm.thumb.png.eba3631176a5eb8fb519d5f429ef0402.png

League Cup- nothing to really say here, rotated fully for every game bar the final which I duly won.

1098112619_ScreenShot2021-08-10at8_16_19pm.thumb.png.826f350c4785dea336a1ae37ee13e673.png

So a successful season where I won 4/4 trophies. I strengthened massively between the opening and closing season. Plan next season will be to strengthen my defence and midfield. Focus will be to make sure I qualify for the CL in the opening stage so I can abandon the closing stage and focus on the CL. My second string side would still have enough to qualify around top 4 for a QF birth.

Nations League was a shambles. Got spanked 5-1 by England in the SF and lost to Portugal in the 3rd place playoff. Not looking good for the Euros.

Season 1 - 2020/21

SA Premier League - 5th

1200px-AmaZulu_logo_svg.thumb.png.ad5befe595ac304d3bd419b47b9cdfff.png

Season Introduction

Went against my original plan of building my reputation and badges around Europe when I managed to land the Amazulu Job in January 2021. The club was languishing in 15th. The Squad looked semi decent and had a good building block in Mlambo.

Had 150k transfer budget but a maxed out wage budget. Managed to get a few players in for minimal fees that contracts were running out. The big signing was Grant Margeman, a current SA international on loan from Roma.

Season Summary

Season went pretty well. thought a 4231 vertical tiki taka style would work best. managed to go on a 12 game unbeaten run in the league dropping only 1 game to finish 5th.  Player of the season was Ntuli, already at the club who led the line for me and finished with 13 goals. Wasnt expecting to be so competitive in the cup but managed to win it after getting lucky with semi and quarter final home games to teams . I dont think i would have overcome Orlando Pirates, Cape Town or even Sundowns with the current team. Great season, first time properly managing in SA and enjoyed it. Have only managed 1 badge as only at the club 6 months but Reputation with the cup win is up to 1star (20%).

Next Season Target/Notes

Target for next season is to win the league and qualify for the African Champions League and carry on building badges and reputation. Should have more flexibility with signings as Tschabala's 8.5k wage comes of the books (20% of budget).

Last season I contemplated leaving because we struggled to become champion and we did not had a chance against Chinese teams in the Champions League. This season however we walked the league, won the cup and the Champions League, that's right we got the Treble! The final was incredible, and we didn't need to play the second leg, because we won the first leg 6-0, now I've got nothing left to accomplish in South Korea, so I'm quitting tomorrow and on to the next continent.

COPA AMERICA 2044

BRAZIL - WINNER

1651.png

After leaving PSG and the Chinese national team, I was elected the head coach of Brazil.

Group phase:

This stage was pleasant, although I was very surprised by the draw with the USA. However, the match against Colombia was a great prognosis for me.
485095975_tabelagrupa.thumb.jpg.5eeca9e09cf8b9ea9dfc1276da676ccd.jpg

Quarterfinal:

A very relaxed game against Venezuela.

Semifinal:

Definitely the toughest match of the tournament. Argentina set tough conditions and there were moments in this match where I was afraid we would be knocked out. Fortunately, we kept more calm in the penalty shootout competition and advanced to the grand final.
Final:

The final match against Chile was probably the easiest game in this tournament. The result of 7-1 speaks for itself.

Manchester City: 2072/73 Review

Despite their poor start to the campaign my arrival at Manchester City brought with it plenty of excitement and intrigue. I was confident I could improve fortunes quickly and that is exactly what happened. I quickly moved to make 20-year old striker Allan Johnson our new main man up top in a decision that really paid off. The January market saw us make some moves as well. We signed a new goalkeeper and a couple of young central defenders before saving our biggest deal for deadline day. 22-year old central midfielder Causso Mane was signed from Salzburg in a £68,000,000 deal and made a big difference.

68333377_FinalLeague.png.2a3d6656f4903b084f451be8313f4127.png

We did really well to put together strong form and climb the table quickly. At one stage I thought we may be able to get back into the title race but we dropped a few silly points late on. If you’d offered me that position upon my arrival here though I would’ve been absolutely ecstatic. It was definitely a job well done. To miss out on Champions League football is disappointing but as I said I would have been delighted with 5th if you’d offered it to me when I took over a side in poor form and in free fall in the league table.

The domestic cup competitions were pretty successful for us as well. I managed to guide us into the final of the League Cup and with it take my first trip to Wembley as a manager. Everything looked rosy when we raced into an early two goal lead but from there we absolutely capitulated.

598750005_LeagueCupFinal.png.610623df7f073b5e86d05f032a14b2be.png

To lose to our biggest rivals at Wembley really hurt and left me really disappointed. Especially having started so well. Our opponents clawed their way back in to take the game into extra time and from there we just fell apart. A heavy defeat to our biggest rivals in a cup final really was a disappointing situation to face.

In the FA Cup we also put together a nice run, aided by a few early ties against lower opposition. We reached a semi final against Aston Villa and it was looking like the second domestic final of the season would also be played between us and our Manchester rivals. We comfortably dispatched Villa 3-0 to book our return to Wembley for a second cup final of my short reign. Surprisingly we would face West Ham who picked up a surprise 3-2 victory over Manchester United in the other semi.

802474859_FACupFinal.png.d92c1bde81606599be702b4f6ec847ce.png

The final ended up being a breeze. We took the lead early and a red card for our opposition made the rest of the match a real cruise. In fact I fully expected us to go on and score more goals as the game wore on. We coasted to the victory though and with it my first trophy as manager of the club.

496497538_FACupCelebrations.png.23a96b4b4ba27ec17bbbbc775821f4af.png

We also managed to string a nice run together in the Champions League. I joined with one group game remaining with the club needing a win to progress to the knockouts. We beat Salzburg to book our spot and then went from strength to strength. The Quarter Final draw was probably our hardest, but a 3-3 draw away was followed by a really comfortable 2-0 victory at home against Inter Milan. Ajax proved to be tricky opposition in the semi finals though. We travelled to Holland for the first leg and were seen off 0-2. The return leg was a thriller. We came out the traps and by half time led 2-0 to make it a level game. The second half was more tense and went to extra time with neither side able to find a breakthrough. The extra time period offered very little from either side meaning the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate and went to penalties. Ajax went first and missed their very first kick. Every other kick was scored from both teams meaning we won 5-4 on penalties to make it into the final. Barcelona awaited us in the biggest contest in European football.

549179852_ChampionsLeagueFinal.png.c5ce04f8c7edfb6b84a4a51c41fff9df.png

Despite putting up a really good fight we ended up losing out to the narrowest of score lines. We tried everything in the second period but just couldn’t break them down and score the equaliser. I was left disappointed but also delighted with how much character and fight my team showed.

I’m delighted with how the season went although to lose out in two cup finals and narrowly miss Champions League football is somewhat gutting. We were competitive throughout though and I’m confident that with a successful summer in the transfer market we can put together a run for the league title next season. I’m already in the hunt for new signings and qualifying for the Europa League has still seen me handed a £200,000,000 transfer budget to strengthen. I have confidence we can enter next season with a seriously strong squad and compete across all fronts. Although the league title will definitely be priority. This summer is all about the Club World Cup though and an opportunity to try and chalk another required competition off the list. We will be considered one of the favourites although it’s a competition I never hold much hope in. Player fitness is always an issue but hopefully we can surprise. I’ll also be waiting around trying to find an international job. I still need to win the European Championships and the Copa America, so will be hinting a nation competing in one of those competitions.

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - a really good season, helped by a lack of European football, where we challenged the title but ultimately dropped off as Bayern Munich took the top spot.

German Cup - Fixtures - started with the usual thumping of a lower league team.  Dortmund in the 3rd round away was a challenge but we just about won on penalties.  Ultimately we got to the final where we faced Hertha Berlin and another penalty shooutout saw us pick up the trophy

Finances - we got £88m in prize money from finishing 2nd so minted

Transfers - quite the squad overhaul.

Squad

Key players

Christoph Brink - got him back in again after a great season in Turkey last time around and he was top notch again

Filipe Ramos - bargain free transfer for this Portuguese keeper

Dennis Geiger - I could always "count" on this midfielder

Bahri Alakus - strong Turkish centre half

Maurice Muller - prolific striker from our academy

Season 28/29

Nations League - Fixtures 1 | Table | Fixtures 2 - despite a surprise 2-0 loss away at Norway of all places we won our group to progress to the semi finals and final at home the following year.  A good defeat of France in added time got us into the final where surprisingly we faced Turkey, a 2-1 win being enough to win the Nations League.

WC 2020 Qualifying - Fixtures | Table - pretty comfortable couple of wins to kick things off.

Future - will see if we can challenge for the league whilst balancing the Champions League.

Manchester City: 2073 Club World Cup

After a pretty good start to life with Manchester City it was time to enter a competition that I was yet to win during my managerial career in the Club World Cup. Hosted by Norway we entered as one of the favourites to win it, but I lacked confidence due to a couple of really poor efforts in the past with my former clubs. The fact the competition takes part during the off season makes it difficult to get the players fit for a flurry of matches, although we definitely had a squad capable of competing even with plenty of rotation.

Group.png.f34ebf9e84189b11484a5905106ba73e.png

We navigated the group with relative ease although not as comfortably as the table suggests. I named our second string for our opener and it paid off as we thumped Molde 4-0 to get our campaign up and running. We followed it with a 4-1 victory over Boca Juniors although only after a really impressive second half. We were 0-1 down at the break but bounced back brilliantly to turn the game around. A couple of late goals added gloss to the score line but we had done what was needed to progress.

Knockout.png.9fe152b2a1b51cc3384811d0280b668c.png

We faced a simple enough looking Quarter Final tie although we did certainly make hard work of it. We had to make a number of changes to our side but we got away with it. A tense end saw us hold on to book a semi final against my former side Liverpool. Back to full strength we were superb, racing into an early two goal lead. We faced an onslaught of pressure in the second half but did really well defensively to hold on until stoppage time. We did concede a goal but held on to progress to the final. In our way stood Paris Saint Germain who prevailed on penalties against Valencia to win a battle between two of my former clubs.

Final.png.40aa00ff419435907d44d3af31d1f421.png

Selection for the final was slightly difficult as we had a number of players short of fitness. We also had to make do without our number one goalkeeper as he had left to join up with the Mexico squad for the upcoming Gold Cup. We were still strong but perhaps a couple of players short of where we wanted to be. That didn’t seem to matter early though as we took the lead through Ronaldo Alfredo. On twenty minutes we thought we’d doubled the lead through a wonderfully worked goal. Unfortunately it was ruled out by VAR for offside. We were on top though and we looked capable of adding to our lead. We had to wait til just after the half hour mark though, when Bruninho raced through to make it 2-0. At this stage I was delighted but also fearful of our opposition. Those fears subsided just six minutes from half time though, when our lead went to 3-0. At this stage it was game over and we went through the second half with minimal fuss. We did concede a goal back through Levi Bak, but it was deep into stoppage time by then and the game was already won.

Winners.png.9eff83943bdace711731ee883026ce49.png

Although this was a tournament I wasn’t hugely fussed about it does mean we chalk off another competition towards this challenge. It’s proven tough for me to get my hands on it but at long last I have a winners medal. Player fitness is such a difficult thing to manage during this tournament and that makes it even more pleasing to win it and get it done now. No I can focus on strengthening my side ahead of the new campaign. So far it’s been a quiet summer but now I can look to make my moves. I’ll also be keeping an eye on any international jobs that may become available. This summer could yet get very interesting for me.

Japan at the 2031 Asian Cup

After I resigned from Seoul, Japan came knocking for the AFC Cup that was just around the corner. I had no confidence Japan could win it, because South Korea looked like a beast, with a lot of players from 'my' old FC Seoul. We didn't need to qualify however so in 2030 we only did a couple of friendlies. The group stage saw us draw Iran, Lebanon & Kyrgyzstan, which went flawless like expected.

al8X7wC.pnga2H1oEi.pngp6udgik.png

Next up was Iraq, this one was a lot more tough then the group stage we were superior but forgot to put it in the net more.

2M0RsKw.png

After this we got Saudi Arabia, not much of a problem, simple 2-0.

EhlYgv4.png

The semi's.. South Korea.. they were superior all tournament with an high scoring front line, we needed to bring our absolute best and hope they had a lesser day. We didn't and neither did they..

frzsgNg.png

XaBWTXb.png

So we got stranded in the semis and I don't have any confidence South Korea will lose their supremecy in the next four years. Currently contemplating resigning from Japan and wait for South Korea to open up. But I need to focus on the club side for now as we also signed with Vélez Sarsfield, I did not realise they were in debt until after I signed and I cannot sign any players at the moment. We are in the Copa libertadores however.

@lapsik7 Congrats on completing. You're not the only one to have found the challenge a grind by the end. I certainly always feel that way.

I apologise for not responding much to people's progress, but after nearly 7 years, I spend most of my replies on this thread just repeating myself. However it is just possible that there is one person who hasn't committed all 150+ pages of this thread to memory, so I'll take the chance of repeating myself again.

When the challenge first appeared, i thought it was probably impossible, but actually it's very easy if you're half competent at the game and able to keep going and going and going. It's not like the Youth Challenge where you can genuinely fail, (and most people do quickly and repeatedly). With this challenge you either complete it, give up or expire*, and all 3 options tend to have their merits at various points. I make much more of a fuss of getting on the leader board than completing because usually by the time you get to the latter you're a hollowed out shell of a person and quasi-vegetative.

*It is actually possible to fail at this challenge if you run across a challenge-killing bug (which, fear not children, there hasn't been for a couple of years) or run out of jobs; both of which I've done.

As you say, the value in completing the challenge is that you applied yourself to something and didn't give up.

Also, I agree there are paths in the challenge that are better to take. I myself tend to not say what they are, as it's better to let people find their own way, but it is frustrating sometimes reading people's early posts and thinking, wow, you really do not want to do that!

@goonergez I knew you could do it.

Actually, no, I'm lying. I thought you'd fail to win the CWC and I'd have to clear up the broken pieces of your psyche, but that didn't happen, and I'm very glad. The CWC is definitely the hardest thing to win, because you're not automatically going to want to stay at a club after the Champions League if it means a long wait, so one has to plan ahead.

Which attempt was this for you? 3rd, 4th 5th CWC in this save?

@CrispypaulYou're flying through this challenge, but big international tournaments will start coming thick and thin now. (I might be mixing up idioms there. I am very tired).

@Fizzle Going well. Not long until your life attains some purpose and you burst your way on to the leader board.

Season Summary

Season went very well indeed, winning 4/5 trophies. I thought after last seasons performances we would be able to compete for the title with some strong signings and we went and won it, just. I managed to bring in some great players on loan (Lyle Foster, Luther Singh, Kaiky) and then raided rivals for upgrades (Mahlambi, Lakay). Player of the season was Lyle Foster who scored 55 in 51 which was astonishing.  The African Confederations Cup was quite fun lots of thrashings but found a rival in Zamalek who beat us in the group but we managed to get revenge in the final. Found the 60ish season games a bit of a slog, with the preliminary rounds of the ACC and the 3 domestic cups taking quite a lot of time and some of the scheduling was painful (4 games in 8 days once) but had a big squad to cope.

I'm trying to land the first international job at a contender. I thought i had a good chance at one of the African Nations  after AFCON 2021 but Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Morroco all turned me down.

Got to Continental C License and 2.5star (45%) reputation

Next Season Target/Notes

Want to sign Lyle Foster permanently with the £2.8m budget. Target for next season is all about the African Champions League and carry on building badges and reputation.  Will focus on the ACL as want to move to a new country/club at end of season and hopefully land the first International Job, maybe after the 2022 world cup.

I think it was my third after failures with Liverpool and Leipzig. Don’t hold me to that but I think it’s three. Found the fitness issues with players the biggest issue though. I’m glad to have chalked it off and finally feel like I’m starting to get somewhere with this challenge now. Internationally I feel I’m struggling but club wise not going to badly

Vélez Sarsfield 2030/31

Table | Squad

When I arrived in Buenos Aires and took a first look at the finances I was shocked, almost 8 million in the red and wages higher than income, but okay at the end of the season we will assess who can be missed and who has some value to sell. I started in October meaning the league has already started and the previous manager had been sacked for poor performance. They were in 8th place after 10 games with no signs of improvement appearently and I have no clue why because when I stepped we won 7 of our remaining 9 matches before the winterbreak. After the winterbreak we only lost 3 more times and drew twice and ended up in 2nd place behind River and ahead of Racing Club and Boca, which I think is a damn good result. In the Copa Libertadores we drew Palmeiras, Santos and Liga de Quito and ended 2nd in the group with 15 points, after the summer the competition will continue against Fluminense. When the season ended I suddenly got why the previous manager was sacked, I came in 8th and finished 2nd, but the chairman called me to the office and said the results somehow weren't good enough and said I needed to get 8 points in the next 5 matches? The season ended?! I got confused and blurted out that's too much and the chairman said 'Okay, 5 points then!' Okay sure buddy.. I'm getting a pretty good idea why this club is in debt, the owner hasn't got any clue how to run it..

After looking at my 8 highest earners, they played a total of 152 games combined, that's 19 games on average per player. Two of them were starters who played ~ 38 matches in the league so they drastically up the average, meaning of the highest earners most of them aren't even starters, I mean one of them is my 3rd choice goalkeeper dammit. I need to get rid of them ASAP.

Manchester City: 2073/74 Review

My first full season with City went fairly well although I was left pondering what may have been with my side. Everything looked positive at the start of the campaign, especially with how well we conducted our summer transfer activity. Central midfielder Alan Angell was out top target all summer and we managed to grab him from a Dortmund on deadline day. A £95,000,000 fee enough to see the 28-year old central midfielder arrive. Perhaps more exciting though was our signing of Monterrey winger Aldo Duran. The 20-year old was signed for just £16,000,000 and looks to have the potential to be one of the best players around in years to come.

On the field we kicked off well too. A solid performance helped us defeat Liverpool 3-1 to lift the season opening Community Shield. After that we started the season well. In fact we started very well. An unbeaten run of thirty eight games in all competitions saw us enjoy a run into the new year having not tasted defeat in any competition. That run ended with a bang though, West Ham knocking us out of the FA Cup in the Fourth Round. Having made it all the way to the final of the League Cup we then suffered our second defeat of the season as well.

2016917902_LCFinal.png.29d32fc6bc76c008fd0bb0f5c0aea9ed.png

I wasn’t devastated to lose out as it is an irrelevant competition in regards to the challenge. Unfortunately that defeat sparked a run of dropped points. We lost our one and only league game of the season to West Ham before drawing three of our next four league matches. That saw us slip off the pace of Manchester United and in the end it was too much for us to close down. We finished in second place and were left gutted.

1301661962_FinalTable.png.0a12fe1be67eb56efd0653b27bfbf65e.png

Continentally we found ourselves in the Europa League and performed impressively throughout. We won all of our group games before breezing through the knockouts to the semi final stage. All this progression coming despite naming a side full of young players and fringe squad members. We lost our first game of the competition in the first leg of the semi final though, losing 0-1 to Lazio due to a stoppage time goal. With our league title hopes over I went full strength for the second leg away in Italy hoping to overturn and reach a second European final with this club. We certainly didn’t put in our best performance but after an extra time period we managed it with a 3-0 victory and reached the final where we would play Roma.

1658551750_ELFinal.png.40465fc6b5b4e60285e7167eae5702f4.png

In the final we were certainly not at our best, but at least we managed to cap the season off with a trophy. It wasn’t the most trophy laden of campaigns for us but it can never be sniffed at to win a continental trophy. It may not be important to me for the challenge but I’m never one to complain about winners medals and I was delighted to end the season on the high of lifting it.

All in all this season was actually a bit of a disappointment. Winning the Premier League is all I need in England and I really want to do it as quickly as possible. My contract was expiring with this club but I moved to sign an extension as the season ended. Hopefully we can challenge for the title again next year and I can chalk England off of my list. I’ll be busy in the transfer market, although shifting players out of the club will also be a priority for me.

There’s also a World Cup this summer, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for any international jobs that become available. I need to get back into international management really to help chalk off the remaining tournaments. Hopefully something will come up and I can return to it. The next twelve months could be really big for my managerial career that’s for sure.

Just a quick update from me we had a decent finish to the season, sadly I tried to make too many changes in January and left myself on the short side in terms of how I like my squads. I have managed to do some decent business between January and now though so hopefully we will improve our good form going in to next season. It is the Euros and the Copa America also this summer so I'll be hoping to pick up an International job asap!

Manchester City: 2074/75 Review

My second full season at the helm of this club has drawn to a close and to be brutally honest there wasn’t much to write home about. In fact the biggest news was probably my appointment as manager of Columbia and hopefully that can help me to chalk off the Copa America. My reign has started well enough as we’ve played and won five friendly matches comfortably enough.

245550336_FinalTable.png.58aae05fcfd5188903e7255eec3adc91.png

Once again we fell short of winning the Premier League title whilst maintaining a push for the entire season. A 1-5 drubbing at our biggest rivals just before Christmas saw us slip off the pace and we were never able to claw our way back. A home defeat of 0-1 to them meant we suffered defeat home and away to them and condemned us to another season with no title. By no means were we bad, it’s just that Manchester United never seem to drop points. We will have to strengthen in the summer to have a really go at winning it next season. It’s the only thing left for me to achieve with this football club.

Outside of the league our season actually started really well. We drew 2-2 with Manchester United in the season opening Community Shield match, triumphing after a penalty shootout. Just a few days later we produced a fantastic performance to defeat Liverpool 3-1 to lift the European Super Cup as well. Outside of that the FA Cup was the only competition we performed in. We got through our Champions League group before being sent packing by Lazio, and in the League Cup we were knocked out by Chelsea early on. I had used alternated squads for all the cup games until the latter stage of the season in the FA Cup. We did well enough to navigate through to the Quarter Finals were we faced my former side in Spurs. We saw them off before losing 0-1 to arsenal in the semi final at Wembley. A really disappointing display condemning us to a season without a major trophy.

I’m disappointed with how the campaign went and to be honest left licking my wounds with this club. It’s not that we performed badly or that our squad is weak, we just cannot compete with Manchester United. I intend to stay here until I’ve managed to lift the Premier League title though and so now is the time to go away and prepare for another season. I’ll be looking to spend some money and bring in players of significant quality to help us on our way. I anticipate a pretty busy summer, and it’s a pretty exciting time for everybody around the club.

Veléz Sarsfield 2031/32

So the season was over and we were in debt. Like £7 mil.. I assessed the squad and sold the higher salary guys and saw I only got 20% of the revenue to spend, which makes sense but crippled the team severely, but at least we were in the black again so that's a win, hopefully we stay that way. We are in still the Copa Libertadores so we should make some money right? So I'm at least positive we can build this team up. That is until..

Boca Juniors 2031/32

Table | Squad | Transfers

Boca came knocking.. And I wasn't sure if I should do it because I was in the Copa Libertadores and Boca wasn't, they finished 4th last season so they will qualify after the winter break, and Veléz lost quality trying to make the club healthy. I jumped ship, sorry Veléz fans, but at least I left when the club had money again. Boca on the other hand had some cash to spend with a astounding £7 mil/year sponsor. I looked at the squad and saw some older players with high wages once again and talents with higher ceiling so I sold some of the older guys and get myself some transfer budget. The chairman had one wish, sign Colombian players, I found one who fit a place where I needed some quality injected and was affordable, Yiran Cediel, a star goalkeeper already, came in for £1.9 mil. After that I looked for my favorite team to raid, ASEC Mimosa. We have a 5 foreigners rule, we already had a Columbian youngster and with Cediel we could only get three more. So I got Left Back Guèhi for £240k, Central Defender Coulibaly-Hien for £275k and Left Winger Ballo for £775k. After the winter break I snapped up a couple of players on a free, but at the end of their contract, one player though, who I had at Veléz I just had to get: Enzo de Faveri, a wonderkid with a lot of potential and we payed £825k for him. But the absolute highest transfer was Gonzalo Padilla, who is going to be an absolute star, he cost us a whopping £8.5 mil, we had to use all kind of constructions to even be able to pay that but he is going to be absolutely worth it.

In the league we absolutely smashed it, becoming champions with 103 points! Only River could keep up with 97 points, Racing only got 76. We almost went invincible, only losing once and who else but Veléz cost us that. But that was in the beginning of the season, so realistically invincibles was never happening. In the first half of the season was the closing stage of the Copa Suda America, where we lost in the Quarter Finals against Santos, but we barely had a pre-season and the squad wasn't used to the tactics yet so I didn't stress it, but it would've been great to win that.  We also lost in the Sixth round of the Cup against River so that was to be expected, as it was our fourth match while I was coach, including pre-season.

After the mid-season break we got into the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, and we walked it, we were unbeatable, only a draw and 3 goals against us. We are getting Cerro Porteño in the next round which shouldn't be a problem.

Oh and Veléz finished 7th. I honestly feel bad for them and I hope they will be doing better..

League - Season Review 1 | Season Review 2 - a bit of a battle earlier on but we started to gain ground after Xmas and won the title with a game to spare.

German Cup - Fixtures - a pretty easy run to the final where we comfortably dispatched Schalke to lift the trophy.

Champions League - Fixtures | Table - pretty tough group of Inter Milan, Man United and Real Sociedad.  A surprising opening win at Old Trafford then a home win against Inter was a great start.  4 points from our 2 Real Sociedad games were good enough to get us to the knockouts but losing the last 2 games left us in 2nd.  In the 1st Knockout Round we played Monaco and had a good couple of comfortable wins.  Up next were Liverpool in the quarters, after a home draw in the first leg I was pessimistic but then we smashed them 6-2 at Anfield.  In the semis we played the other Milan team, a 2-1 win away and a comfortable 4-1 win at home setup a final with French giants PSG.   We went ahead surprisingly and then they had a man sent off however two late goals saw them lift the trophy.

Finances - rich rich rich

Transfers - a lot more in-and-outs

Squad

Key players

Christoph Brink - for some reason Dortmund let me have him on loan again

Maurice Muller - an amazing season from one of our own

Inigo Nunez - great Spanish right back signed from Getafe

Marius Bierbauer - splashed the cash on this great centre half from Frankfurt

David Malone - ex Bayern keeper on a free, capped by Germany at the end of the season

Gerardo Zamudio - excellent Mexican winger

Milivoj Plecas - bargain free transfer of this Serbian striker

Season 29/30

WC 2030 Qualifying - Fixtures | Table - easy peasy.  We've got Canada and the DRC in our group.

Future - I resigned from Hoffenheim as my contract was expiring anyway.  First up though is Spain 2030 before I find another club side.
