I would like to Play the FM21, there are two options to choose from: a notebook with AMD Ryzen 5 3500U 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD between 450-500 € or a PC with AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 16GB RAM 256 GB SSD for 300 €. I want to play with 10 leagues and use 3D mode. I only want to use it for the games FM21, EU4 and Office. Which of the above are faster?

The Ryzen 3 in this case.

I initially said the other one but then I realised I had misread the two options.

So the PC. The FM21 will run smoothly and without problems there?

It should be fine.

I will go with the standard proviso that I cannot give guarantees of how you will find the speed of processing as I have no idea how your expectations compare to mine.

But out of those two options, the Ryzen 3 3200G is the stronger (by quite a lot) and as a bonus has stronger integrated graphics too.

However what I will say is you can probably do even better for the equivalent money you'd be spending on the laptop, unless of course you're going for a cheaper desktop because you still need to buy the likes of the monitor.

Went for this one in the end. Think that should run it fine.

It was more for the Mrs who is a teacher and she wants touchscreen, back-lit keyboard and only really trusts hp

Should be decent in fairness.

Hi all, hoping someone can give me a hand on which laptop is worth getting.

I usually get a fairly basic laptop which allows me to play FM but only in 2D I would like to be able to play in 3D with the new laptop, from what I understand I really need a dedicated graphics card to do this so I have found two options, one is a lot less than the other but both are in my budget my question is, if I am only going to play FM on it is the more expensive one worth the money or will the cheaper option suffice.

Edit: I usually tend to run 4-6 leagues at a time, but will load in around 100000 players in the database, if that makes a difference.

Many thanks.

Out of those two, the Medion.  But I'd suggest this over it as it's a better overall choice and £100 cheaper:

https://www.box.co.uk/ASUS-TUF-Gaming-A15-FA506IU-HN255T_2940904.html

Stronger CPU.  The graphics card isn't as strong, but it's more than enough for FM at max settings.

Is it worth upgrading from a laptop with an i7-9750h to a ryzen 7 4800h? I know they're roughly the same in the benchmark on the forum but wondering if that's just a one off or if it's what people are experiencing with their laptops.

Unless you're having issues, or have other reasons why an upgrade is necessary (ie, needing a laptop with a better graphics card), I would suggest not.  Yes, the Ryzen is a little stronger but not enough to go spending hundreds on a brand new machine.  The i7-9750H is still an extremely capable processor.

I am looking for 10BIT Wide Monitor(32 or 34 inches)

10 Bit Colours(1 Billions colours or more) is must for me because I played Game console to it too.

The games I played are RTS, FPS and Football Manager.

Respond times? Less the better

Refresh Rates? 144

My Budget is up to £500.

Do you have good Recommend for Wide Monitor?

To be honest, you're probably better off getting advice elsewhere on this.  Anything I say will be guesswork as I can only vouch for the monitor I've used, which doesn't fit your requirements at all!

I don't really see anything like that at the price you're looking for.

Hi guys looking at a new laptop between £400-£500 I’ve found this how would it run FM21 please?

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15s-eq1510sa-15-6-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10207935-pdt.html

I only generally run around 7-8 nations.

Thanks in advance

Also I’d most likely be playing FM touch if that makes any difference?

Snap it up. Decent processor and you probably won't get better for the price.

Hello!

Currently furloughed and thought I’d dive back into FM after not playing for a while. Just looking for a laptop to play FM on and that’s it. Budgets probably £300-£400. Won’t use the laptop for much else.

I spotted this https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/product/laptops/a315-a9-3/

Would this run it?

Cheers in advance.

Yes, but very slowly.

This would offer a stronger performance. Still not brilliant, but stronger than the other one:

Does playing the Touch version have an impact on the level of Laptop that is suitable?

Thanks again!

Not really, as both versions of the game have the same system requirements and the 3D match graphics are the same for both as well.

Yep just save your game and put it on dropbox or something like a cloud service.

Download to new computer and load it.

Download to new computer and load it.

Or if it was saved on Steam Cloud, this will be automatic as long as "cloud" rather than "local" is saved for the load game option.

Hi guys,

I had a look but it seems most people are ( rightfully so ) asking recommendations for a laptop.

I've been playing FM on laptops for years, now it's time for me to get a desktop and I'd like some guidance.

I was consulting with a friend, who is of course suggesting quite a gaming oriented one, with good graphic card, topping 1000€.

My budget would be a bit smaller and at the current state of things, I would need a desktop just to play FM 2021.

My idea would be, with a budget of 600€ max, to have a decent base PC with the possibility to upgrade it with a "big shots" graphic cards in the future.

So a solid Motherboard/CPU while the graphic card could be slightly lower-end ( nothing too old though ) that would allow me to play the game at FHD with High details?

Summarizing :

  • Desktop PC
  • Budget 600€
  • "Strong" CPU and Motherboard base ( mid/high range, decent for the future )
  • 16GB ram
  • Low-Mid end GPU capable of handling FM and perhaps other basic sim games ( civ 6? ) just fine
  • SSD+HDD

Would you think I could manage to squeeze this in 600€?

Thanks in advance guys, and have a nice day ahead

Do you need a monitor?

You can go up to 16gb RAM but it put it over the €600 - but 8gb is enough and you could always buy more ram anyway and put it in later - 8gb is enough though.

Okay, sheer laziness on my part.

Which laptop would be the best for playing a few leagues, with a fairly large database. Doesn't need to be outrageously quick but not painstakingly slow either.

Apart from that playing games like Train Simulator, PGA would be about it.

As close to £400 if possible.

I can say from personal experience that if you want anything like an acceptable performance in Train Simulator, a budget of £400 is not enough.  It runs pretty badly on integrated graphics, and depending on the route not brilliantly well on even a fairly strong PC either.  It's not very well optimised, to put it politely.

Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a new laptop to buy after my Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 13.3" Full HD) basically packed it in. Only bought it in March 2018 but the battery had long stopped working on its own so had to keep it plugged in the whole time and often when it went into sleep I would have to restart the laptop completely - issues Dell failed to solve when I sent it for repairs last year. I spent £800 on it at the time and liked it for its processor, portability and light weight.

Been looking to spend around £600-800, but might be tempted to spend up to £1000 and I've researched laptops for the past couple weeks. These two impressed me the most:

https://www.johnlewis.com/hp-envy-x360-13-ay0008na-convertible-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-processor-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-13-3-inch-full-hd-nightfall-black/p5061070

https://www.johnlewis.com/2020-apple-macbook-air-13-3-inch-retina-display-m1-processor-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd/gold/p5233984?sku=239246778&colour=Gold&irclickid=UQowgpxVIxyLR4KwUx0Mo3YlUkE1KR1f4SxyXc0&irgwc=1&tmcampid=99&s_afcid=af_221109

What do you guys think about those?

I've never bought an Apple product before - almost went for a Macbook Air back in 2018 but wasn't a fan of the processor & display nor the price. However, the introduction of the M1 has caught my attention and it seems really good from reviews and benchmark tests online and here on the forums. The portability, design and likelihood that it will last longer also attract me to it. But the lack of Boot Camp is a big concern for me because a program specific to one of the companies I work freelance for is only avaliable on Windows.

I really like the HP and it seems to be highly rated amongst Ultrabooks this year, but I'm very unsure about a 2-in-1 laptop. It'd be nice to have a touchscreen device bigger than my phone to watch things on and play games while travelling but that would preferably be a bit smaller like a tablet, so I doubt I'd use the touchscreen of a 2-in-1. I'm also worried it'll only last me 2 or 3 years like my two laptops before it.

I use my laptop a lot and often have lots of tabs and windows open, play Football Manager on it and use a few programs such as FL Studio, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition too.

Sorry for the essay. What would you guys recommend?

Are you looking to specifically buy from John Lewis?  Also, is it specifically 13" machines you're after?

If not, I can take a look and see what else is available.

As alluded to in the Apple Silicon threads, the Macbooks with the M1 chip are excellent in the 13" realm.

However, the HP there is also a good bet - the Ryzen 5 4500U is an excellent mobile processor.  Based on the benchmarks we have so far, it certainly seems the M1 processor is stronger for FM though - but as you've stated that ideally you need a Windows machine, it's probably worth going for the slightly weaker of the 2 and plumping for the HP.

Thanks for the quick reply! It's always my preference to buy electronics from John Lewis because of their 2-year guarantee and good customer service, but I'm open-minded if there's a bargain to be found elsewhere. And yes, it's specifically a 13" machine I'm looking for.

I hear what you're saying, they both sound like good options. The HP seems to have a great processor for its price.

If I were to go for the Mac, how much would it cost in theory to get a new charger and possibly a new battery too for my Dell Inspiron? I've worked for the said company 15 times since the start of October for a few hours at a time - it's a journalism role. Even though the role accounts for a lot of my income, it only takes a fraction of the amount of time I spend on my laptop overall. So would that be a worthwhile option? Particularly as the Dell still runs quite fast for me.

Chargers should be fairly inexpensive. The battery though is another matter, and I imagine would largely depend on whether its designed to be removable or not.  And that's not something I can provide an answer to.  That's something that will take a little bit of research and maybe a call to a local computer repair shop.

If you can afford keep your Dell reparied for work and still afford to get the Mac, then that's probably the best scenario, as based on what we've seen so far, the Mac will offer better performance for FM.

Hi gents,

just wonder if you can offer some advice. I’m look to replace an old desktop with a laptop but never bought one before. This will be used as the family pc at times going forward so will need something capable of using the Office suite range but mainly to run FM21.

I’ve got a buget of upto £700. Possibly might be able to stretch a little bit more but not to much.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

https://m.hihonor.com/unitedkingdom/product/18244620614541.html#82440112010000301

Would this be of a reasonable standard for FM21 with a few leagues running on a decent sized database?

Thanks again.

Yes, decent CPU and the integrated graphics will be strong enough for FM's 3D graphics at medium or possibly higher.

More storage is never a bad thing.  I've actually found it here for the same price as the 256GB model on Box:

I’ve been playing for the last few years on a acer cloudbook with a intel pentium 1.1ghz processor, honestly I wouldn’t recommend it but I’ve been able to play with England and Spain loaded with an advanced database of around 30,000 players and watchable 3D games so I’m sure despite what the recommended specs are it’s possible to enjoy fm on lower end laptops!

anyway just upgraded to a asus tuf with ryzen 5 4600 and GeForce 1660ti and I’m pretty sure I’m about to fall in love with FM all over again!! Very are currently offering discounts on multiple laptops with an extra 10-20% repaid as credit on the account and 12 months interest free to pay it if anyone is still looking to buy before Christmas.

Are desktops generally better value than laptops?

I've had a Asus ZX553VD-DM997T (recommended by Smurf back in July 2018) which has served me pretty well. Since then I've started working from home, and ended up with a monitor for my work laptop, and due to COVID elongating homeworking, I've bought a desk and a second monitor (for my work laptop). My personal laptop doesn't work on two monitors and is probably quite outdated now. Could I pick up a good spec desktop for around £700? Generally just used for FM and internet usage, YouTube, etc..

A desktop will always be a better value choice than a laptop if you have the space.

This is a cracking deal for £700: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-pcs/acer-nitro-n50-110-gaming-pc-ryzen-5-gtx-1650-1-tb-hdd-10209356-pdt.html

The only real downside to it is that it's got a hard drive as opposed to a SSD.  But the CPU is excellent and the graphics card is more than enough for FM.

Or, this is also excellent value.  The CPU isn't quite as strong, but at £550 this is actually really good value:

You get the SSD for the system, plus a 1TB HDD.
